Italy is a destination country for a growing international migration, accounting for 8.4% of the total population. The COVID-19 pandemic has increased the difficulties in accessing healthcare services among immigrants, and barriers due to linguistic and cultural differences had a significant impact during the pandemic. This paper presents the methodology used in the project 'Epidemiological surveillance and control of COVID-19 in metropolitan urban areas for the containment of SARS-CoV-2 circulation in the immigrant population in Italy', carried out with the technical and financial support of the Italian Ministry of Health. This methodology is aimed to identify and select statements available in the literature, transferable to the Italian context, on the topic of interventions deemed useful in reducing the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the foreign population in urban/metropolitan settings.In February 2022, a systematic search was conducted in databases such as Medline, Embase, and Web of Science, as well as on national and international websites (WHO, Italian Institute of Health, and CDC), and on 'RecMap' (included in the 'COVID19 Recommendations' website) to identify guidelines containing recommendations on the management and prevention of COVID-19 among immigrants. The selected recommendations were divided into intervention areas (infection control, vaccination, screening, planning and monitoring, healthcare systems). In the first phase, a group of researchers independently assessed the inclusion of recommendations through three rounds of consensus. The Appraisal of Guidelines for Research and Evaluation II (AGREE II) tool was used to assess the quality of the included guidelines. In the second phase, an external group of experts independently evaluated the relevance of the included recommendations using a Likert scale. The document is the result of a collaborative work based on evidence from the literature available until that time. The adaptation and adoption of recommendations already formulated by other international organizations on the topic of preparedness and response to the COVID-19 pandemic, evaluated through a consensus process with experts, can be a valid method aimed at producing documents to inform and guide those involved in the care of immigrants in Italy, as well as promoting inclusive forms of prevention in emergency contexts.

The aim of this paper is to explore a grassroots initiative in which Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) serve as infrastructures for processes of human and urban regeneration to rethink places. Through the case study of «La Città che Parla», an interesting project carried out in San Cesario (LE) during the first lock down Covid-19, we reflect on the potential of places, to encourage inhabitants to co-design human and urban regeneration strategies. The paper provides a historical perspective to understand food security at the global level and in the Indian context. It explores how food security in India evolved into a significant public policy concern through the implementation of the National Food Security Act (2013) and other key policy measures. When examining India’s policy focus on food security, a shift has occurred from primarily concentrating on the overall national availability of grains to a more nuanced emphasis on household and individual-level nutrition security. This shift is thoroughly examined in the study. As for methodology, it is primarily descriptive in nature and involves secondary data analysis. The paper follows a systematic literature review to gain insights into food security as a key policy concern, examining it through the lens of the Agenda 2030 achievement. The paper also seeks to comprehend the breadth of literature and research related to global food security, with a specific focus on India. The study firmly argues that the success of the 2030 Agenda hinges on its implementation and the reach of the final beneficiary. Ensuring the availability, accessibility, affordability, and optimal nutritional utilization of resources is critical to achieving this success. This outcome is inherently linked to India’s capacity to garner support for both the established goals and the appropriate methods of execution.

There are many dimensions to conflict in Africa. It depends on the nature of the underlying demography, heterogeneity, and historical context of the state’s social and political problems. The impact of the coronavirus has greatly affected the socioeconomic structure and governance system in Africa, leading to social conflicts. Moreover, the social conflict led to deaths, job losses, and human capital reductions, resulting in economic catastrophes in South Africa, Egypt, and Ethiopia, among others. In Nigeria, the government was unable to cushion the impact of Covid-19, frustrated by the issues of poverty and inequality, wherein the masses were pounded with hunger and insecurity; a corrupt policing system precipitated the social unrest in 2020. Nigeria’s social issues, coupled with the shock of Covid-19, cumulated into protest actions, looting, and police brutality. The government’s inadequate response to the political crisis and state of unrest greatly influenced the public’s belief and outlook on social concerns. The research postulates the following question: how did the social conflict in Africa and Nigeria become overheated during Covid-19? The paper adopts a qualitative method that explores existing literature and media sources on social conflicts and Covid-19 in Africa and Nigeria. The study anchors its theoretical framework on the fragile state theory. The paper concludes that Nigeria’s weakened socioeconomic structure met with the shock of the horror of Covid-19, which sparked social conflict in the country.

Abstract This paper explores the multifaceted impact of Covid-19 on Sesto San Giovanni, in the Milan metropolitan area. It analyzes the challenges faced by local businesses and how the city responded with extraordinary measures for public spaces, revitalizing commercial sectors, and adopting new coping mechanisms. The pandemic underscored the strategic importance of public spaces and commercial activities as vital infrastructures for societal well-being and resilience. Integrating outdoor amenities like dehors and parklets into urban redevelopment plans has boosted economic vitality and social cohesion, creating a vibrant and interconnected urban environment.

Society management and the COVID-19 pandemic require continuous restatement and consolidation. Furthermore, the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development created by the United Nations establishes a set of 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that meet the needs of the present without compromising the ability to meet the needs of future generations and where Goal 5 addresses gender equality as a central priority. The main aim of this paper is to present a crossed-analysis study on how the health crisis has influenced differently the social behaviour between gender and generations in Spain. For this study there have been used a massive open data from the Sociological Research Centre (CIS). The mixed techniques´ methodology of this research was applied to study four social effect dimensions, such as “way of living”, “way of thinking”, “way of self-healthcare” and “social habits and behaviour”. The used techniques contributed analytically to gender and generations management during the pandemic with the intent of complementarity. Obtained findings by analysing four studied dimensions explain the effects and consequences of the pandemic involving differences between men and women, younger and older generations, leading to society management implications that can timely serve as a paradigm with scientific insights for public policies.
