The path to gender equality passes through the breaking down of sociocultural, economic-structural, and also political barriers. In the latter sphere, the quality and quantity of institutional roles held by women in Italy is steadily improving, even in relation to those at higher levels, both locally and nationally. However, resistance to change is still present.
