A closed-loop manufacturing system (CLMS) is widely known as a management strategy that aims to minimize environmental loads as well as to maintain recycling resources throughout the entire manufacturing system. CLMS is composed of a conventional forward manufacturing system (FMS) and a reverse manufacturing system (RMS) that recovers used products and uses them for the production of new products. That is, it is possible to reduce the environmental load and to suppress wasteful production and distribution costs by reusing used products as resources to the furthest possible extent. Various studies on CLMS are being actively carried out, but there is relatively little research on decision-making problems concerning the introduction of RMS. In this paper, we focus on a more realistic and more rational decision-making strategy involved in the introduction of RMS into on existing production system (FMS). Therefore, we propose a multi-objective optimized recovery model that simultaneously evaluates the operation cost of CLMS and the environmental load that is newly defined in this paper. Furthermore, through numerical experiments, the effectiveness of the proposed model as a decision-making support model relating to CLMS is investigated. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
