Healthcare domain has two dominating standards, DICOM for medical images and HL7 for other non-image information such as lab results, prescriptions, etc. Both are already ISO standards. To complete healthcare information transfer, not only data syntax, also data item codes should be standardized. In Japan, HOT code for drugs, JLAC code for lab examinations have been standardized. In this article, above mentioned standards and codes are described. Also, CD based Shizuoka prefecture style clinical data exchange is shown as an example of standardized healthcare information exchange. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
