Continuous cystometric recording through a balloon catheter was carried out on rat and changes after administration of AK-123 (f1avoxate hydrochloride) were studied. 1) Intragastric administration of AK-123 less than 62.5mg/kg showed no effect on the voiding contraction of the bladder. 2) Intragastric administration of AK-123, 125 to 250mg/kg, exerted inhibition on the voiding contraction starting 45 minutes and reaching the maximum level 60 to 75 minutes after the administration. The vesical contraction returned to the original level in 120 to 180 minutes. 3) Intragastric administration of AK-123 more than 500 mg/kg inhibited the vesical contraction and lowered the blood pressure remarkably. Both the veisical function and blood pressure did not return to the original level and the experimental animals got deteriorated.

The present paper is a report on a recently found iron image of Amitābha Buddha with the dated inscription of the fourth year of Kōchō Era (1264) of the Kmakura Period. Kantō Region is one of the historical centers of Buddhist iron image production. More than ten examples are known from various spots of the region. But excllent ones are few partially due to the difficulty of iron casting. Among them, this standing satue found from Suifu Village, Ibaragi Prefecture, is a specially excellent example which is comarable to the contemporary sculptural works of other materials. It can well be a criterion of the mediaeval sculptural history of Kantō Region.

This article is an introduction of a wooden statue of Vaiśravaṇa (Pl. VI) recently recovered from the Kuramadera which is located in the northeast outskirts of Kyoto and is known as the temple with a Vaiśravaṇa, a guardian of this old capital city. It is a painted, multi-block hinoki wood sculpture with crystal eyes. This statue, measuring 148.8 cm. in height, has been darkened by some kind of smoke and the colours are almost unrecognizable. Its realistic expression is apparently a product of the school of Unkei and his followers, but, when compared with works of the early Kamakura period such as those of Unkei, it has less intensity and shows a retrogression of skill. It seems to suggest that the date of this work is middle Kamakura period. The Kuramadera was destroyed by fire in 1238 and the reconstruction ceremony was held ten years later, in 1248. If this work was made for this latter occasion, its stylistic characteristics are quite easily understood.
