Object : To evaluate MST (mean survival time) of surgical resection for single or multiple metastasis to brain combined with post operative GKRS (gamma knife radiosurgery) without whole brain radiotherapy in our hospital. Materials and Methods : Twelve patients with single or multiple brain metastasis tumor over three centimeter in diameter were included in this study. They were treated in surgical resection combined with GKRS between March 2001 and August 2005. Results : The observation period ranged from 1 to 39 months (mean 13.6 months). In nine survival cases, mean observation time ranged from 1 to 39 months (mean 15 months). In three dead cases, the survival time ranged from 1 to 23 months (mean 9.3 months). Conclusion : The surgical resection combined with GKRS is effective for improving survival time for the metastatic brain tumor over three centimeter in diameter.
