The purpose of this research was to develop a Japanese version of the Unwanted Pursuit Behavior Inventory-Revised for Victimization (UPBI-R-V-J), which is a measure of unwanted pursuit behavior, and examine the reliability and validity of the UPBI-R-V-J. Unwanted pursuit behavior is defined as unwanted actions by former relationship partners, including stalking. The questionnaire survey was given to 133 university students, junior college students, and vocational college students (24 males and 109 females). The results revealed that the UPBIR-V-J consisted of instances of mild damage and severe damage, and it had adequate reliability coefficients (α = .83 and .74, respectively). Furthermore, each subscale was positively correlated with attachment anxiety associated with the former partner and was also positively correlated with the violence from former intimate partners that occurred during the romantic relationship; thus, the criterion-related validity of the UPBI-R-V-J was confirmed. Therefore, the UPBI-R-V-J was deemed to be reliable and valid. Finally limitations of the research and future directions are discussed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study adapted the ECR-RS for children into Japanese, to measure attachment anxiety and attachment avoidance, and examined its reliability and validity. Participants were 260 boys and 280 girls in Grade 4–6 (mean age􀊹10.5 years). It examined whether the ECR-RS for children could be assumed to be based on 2 factors (attachment anxiety and attachment avoidance). We verified its reliability with tests of internal consistency and test–retest correlation at 5 months, and examined its validity with theoretically related or unrelated variables (attachment security, global self-esteem, emotional intelligence, empathy, life satisfaction, social anxiousness, loneliness, friendship satisfaction, and athletic competence). This study aimed to reveal the risk factors for a person to perpetrate stalking-like behaviors following the end of a romantic relationship based on personality traits (attachment anxiety and narcissism), the characteristics of a romantic relationship before a breakup, and the emotions and thoughts of a person after a breakup. To develop two scales measuring the characteristics of a romantic relationship before a breakup and the emotions and thoughts of a person after a breakup, a web-based survey of 189 females and 165 males was conducted in Study 1.In Study 2, a national survey was conducted using two-stage stratified sampling;106 females and 110 males who experienced the end of a romantic relationship during the past five years and did not initiate their most recent breakup were analyzed. The results of a multiple-group analysis revealed that both attachment anxiety and feelings that a partner was his/her “one and only” increased egoistic preoccupations after a breakup, and the egoistic preoccupations predicted the perpetration of stalking-like behaviors in both males and females.
