This article describes librarians' activities to support Evidence-Based Medicine (EBM) and compares those with their efforts to implement Evidence-Based Librarianship/Evidence-Based Library and Information Practice (EBL/EBLIP) within the information services field. Librarians in some western countries have already expanded their roles, including clinical settings for EBM, and have been involved in a wide range of activities that focus on research for EBL/EBLIP. The author discusses the feasibility of EBL/EBLIP in Japan in terms of convincing library administration to facilitate and provide these advanced services by research-oriented librarians. In conclusion, more effort is needed to encourage librarians to be empowered through research activities for the support of EBP and its application to their own professional practice. Part 2 describes librarians' activities in EBL/EBLIP as Evidence-Based Practice for their own professional practice, followed by discussion and conclusion. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
