- Abstract
We identified eight local citrus accessions grown on Kuroshima Island (approx. N 30°, E 129°, 15 km2), Kagoshima Prefecture. Cleaved amplified polymorphic sequence (CAPS) analysis and fruit characteristic investigation were combined for their identification. The results were as follows: 'Kuroshima-mikan' was Shimamikan (Amami Oshima) (Citrus sp.), 'Kozumikan' was Shiikuwasha (C. depressa), 'Hachigatsu-mikan' was Kabuchii (C. keraji), 'Kawabata' (B) was Kawabata-mikan (C. aurea), 'Kinebu' was Kunenbo (C. nobilis), 'Yurimikan' was citron (C. medica), and 'Akamikan' was pummelo (C. maxima). Although 'Kawabata' (A) was closely related to the Chinese mandarin C. sunki, it was not clear whether they were the same. Although Kuroshima is small, it was identified as an island with various local citrus genetic resources. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
