Purpose: In this study a systematic review and meta-analysis investigated the impact of non-pharmacological interventions on major adverse cardiac events (MACE) in patients with coronary artery disease who underwent percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). Methods: A literature search was performed using PubMed, Cochrane Library, EMBASE, and Cumulative Index to Nursing & Allied Health Literature databases up to November 2023. The risk of bias was assessed using the Cochrane Risk of Bias 2.0 tool. Effect sizes and 95% confidence intervals were calculated using R software (version 4.3.2). Results: Eighteen randomized studies, involving 2,898 participants, were included. Of these, 16 studies with 2,697 participants provided quantitative data. Non-pharmacological interventions (education, exercise, and comprehensive) significantly reduced the risk of angina, heart failure, myocardial infarction, restenosis, cardiovascular-related readmission, and cardiovascular-related death. The subgroup meta-analysis showed that combined interventions were effective in reducing the occurrence of myocardial infarction (MI), and individual and group-based interventions had significant effects on reducing the occurrence of MACE. In interventions lasting seven months or longer, occurrence of decreased by 0.16 times, and mortality related to cardiovascular disease decreased by 0.44 times, showing that interventions lasting seven months or more were more effective in reducing MI and cardiovascular disease-related mortality. Conclusion: Further investigations are required to assess the cost-effectiveness of these interventions in patients undergoing PCI and validate their short- and long-term effects. Purpose: This study performed an integrated review based on Roy's adaptation modes of physiological-physical and psycho-social integration to identify health problems and measure health management of child and adolescent cancer survivors. Methods: Based on 'Whittemore and Knafl's stages' of an integrative review process (problem identification, literature search, data evaluation, data analysis, and presentation of the results), six databases (Google Scholar, CINAHL, PubMed, RISS, KISS, and DBpia) were used to retrieve relevant articles. A total of 992 variables were collected from 14 studies published between 2011 and 2023. Results: Three thematic categories were identified: physiological-physical and psycho-social health problems (fatigue, diminished physical activity, physical sequela, sleep disorders, endocrine problems, bullying, and prejudice), daily self care management(lifestyles integrating health promotion, adaptation processes, and self-care), and preventive health management(utilization of health checkups and screening tests). Conclusion: Nursing interventions that can result in a healthy lifestyle for child and adolescent cancer survivors should be further examined at the individual, community, and national levels. Purpose: This study investigated how interprofessional education (IPE) related to medication for undergraduate healthcare students, including nursing students, has been designed and conducted. Furthermore, the outcomes of these IPE programs were evaluated. Methods: A scoping review was performed to understand the content and methods of IPE on medication for undergraduate healthcare students, including nursing students. A literature search was done using PubMed, Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature, Embase, Research Information Sharing Service, and Korean Nursing Database in English between January 2000 and December 2022. In total, 14 papers were selected and reviewed. Results: Eleven research studies were conducted on the implementation of one-time IPE on medication safety or errors. Among them, six studies focused on providing IPE to nursing students alongside medical and pharmacy students, while three studies targeted nursing and medical students, and two studies focused on nursing and pharmacy students. The most commonly employed educational method was simulation, which was utilized in 12 studies. All studies consistently reported a positive impact on attitudes toward IPE and effective communication. Additionally, five studies evaluating medication knowledge reported improvements in participants’ understanding of drugs. Purpose: This study aimed to identify research trends related to emotional leadership among nurse managers by conducting a systematic literature review and meta-analysis. This study sought to derive insights that could contribute to improving emotional leadership in nursing practice. Methods: A systematic review and meta-analysis were conducted according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) and Meta-Analysis Of Observational Studies in Epidemiology (MOOSE) guidelines. Databases including PubMed, Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature, Scopus, Web of Science, Research Information Sharing Service, Koreanstudies Information Service System, Korean Medical Database, KoreaMed, ScienceON, and DBpia were searched to obtain papers published in English and Korean. Literature searches and screenings were conducted for the period December 1, 2023 to December 17, 2023. The effect size correlation (ESr) was calculated for each variable and the meta-analysis was performed using the statistical software SPSS 29.0, R 4.3.1. Results: Twenty-five (four personal, six job, and fifteen organizational) relevant variables were identified through the systematic review. The results of the meta-analysis showed that the total overall effect size was ESr = .33. Job satisfaction (ESr = .40) and leader-member exchange (ESr = .75) had the largest effect size among the job and organizational-related factors. Conclusion: Emotional leadership helps promote positive changes within organizations, improves organizational effectiveness, and increases member engagement and satisfaction. Purpose: This conceptual analysis aimed to reveal the "role conflict of physician assistants with nursing licenses in Korea" by defining and organizing its concept. Methods: This study used the conceptual analysis process of Walker and Avant. Results: The role conflict of Korean physician assistant nurses can be defined by the following attributes: "Confusion of identity," "Psychological burden of work," "Anxiety and fear of legal responsibility," "Anxiety about an uncertain future," "Relative deprivation," "Sense of neglect," and a "Lack of sense of belonging." The antecedents identified were: "unclear work boundaries," "absence of work guidelines," "excessive work and poor environment," "Absence of regulations and administrative regulation," "Exclusion from unfair treatment and promotion," "Difficulty measuring job performance," "Absence of job autonomy," and "Physician group interest pursuit." The consequences were: "Decreased job satisfaction," "Decreased sense of achievement," "Decreased self-esteem," "Limited growth," "Increased turnover intentions," "Exhaustion of mind and body," "Career identity crisis," and "Frustrations." Conclusion: This study provides basic data for constructing a theory concerning role conflict among Korean dedicated nurses and promotes the development of measurement tools. Purpose: This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of exercise in patients with hemophilia. Methods: We carried out a systematic review and meta-analysis in accordance with the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-analysis (PRISMA) guidelines. A literature search was conducted of published randomized controlled trials for exercise interventions from January 1, 2014 to March 15, 2023. To estimate the size of the effects of exercise, a meta-analysis was performed using the R package “meta.” Results: Five databases were searched to obtain articles published in Korean or English. Of 1,150 articles reviewed, 13 were included in the systematic review and 9 in the meta-analysis. The risk of bias was assessed using RoB 2.0. The overall effect sizes of exercise interventions, calculated as the standardized mean difference, were -0.11 (95% confidence interval [CI] = -1.41 to –1.20) for pain, -2.13 (95% CI = -3.33 to -0.93) for joint health, 9.96 (95% CI = 7.51 to 12.28) for physical activity, and 0.59 (95% CI = -0.39 to -1.56) for quality of life. Conclusion: These findings suggest that exercise is useful for improving the joint health and physical activity of patients with hemophilia. Thus, it is necessary to develop and apply exercise interventions for patients with hemophilia to reduce their pain and improve their quality of life. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: This scoping review was designed to identify gaps in knowledge and guide future directions for clinical nursing practices and research on oral hygiene care for endotracheally intubated patients in Korean intensive care units. Methods: We conducted a scoping review using the methodological framework proposed by Arksey and O'Malley. PubMed, CINAHL, RISS, Science On, and DBpia databases were searched. Two reviewers independently selected the studies and extracted data. A total of 445 studies were identified, of which 17 were included in the final analysis. Results: No research has been conducted from 2021 to the present. A total of 12 instruments were utilized in 13 studies to assess the effectiveness of oral hygiene care. All studies investigating the effectiveness of oral hygiene care have consistently documented that chlorhexidine has the most significant effect. The frequency and time of oral hygiene care were each examined in one study. Conclusion: A research study is necessary to develop a measurement tool for assessing the effectiveness of oral hygiene care suitable for endotracheal intubated patients in intensive care units. Interventional studies should be conducted to determine the effects of chlorhexidine and the appropriate frequency and time of oral hygiene care. Purpose: The electronic frailty index (eFI), which is derived from electronic health records, has been recommended as screening tool for frailty due to its accessibility and ease of use. The objective of this systematic review was to identify the prevalence of frailty assessed by the eFI and its influence on health outcomes in older adults with chronic diseases. Methods: We searched PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, CINAHL, SCOPUS, Cochrane, Google search, and nursing journals in Korean from January 2016 to December 2022. Results: Twelve studies were analyzed. The eFI score, based on routine clinical data, was associated with adverse health outcomes. The most frequent outcome studied was mortality, and the eFI was associated with increased mortality in nine studies. Other outcomes studied included hospitalization, length of stay, readmission, and institutionalization in relation to hospital care usage, and cardiovascular events, stroke, GI bleeding, falls, and instrumental activities of daily life as health conditions. Conclusion: Early identification of frailty in older adults with chronic diseases can decrease the burden of disease and adverse health outcomes. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to understand the concept of metacognition and related attributes in nursing students. Methods: This study used the concept analysis framework of Walker & Avant (2014). A literature search was conducted using the PubMed, CINAHL, EBSCOhost, RISS, and DBpia databases with the keywords "nursing student" and "metacognition." In total, 49 articles were selected for this study. Results: Metacognition in nursing students is defined as understanding the acquired knowledge, environment, and self-awareness among nursing students. The antecedents of metacognition in nursing students include the teaching and learning method and personal attributes. The consequences of metacognition in nursing students are positive self-assessment, improved learning achievement, and improved practice ability. Conclusion: This concept analysis provides a definition of metacognition in nursing students. Purpose : Exercise may prevent the worsening of chronic kidney disease (CKD) and progression of cardiovascular diseases in patients with CKD. This review aims to identify the best type of exercise modality and summarizes the beneficial effects of exercise on physical and renal function among older adults with pre-dialysis CKD. Methods : A systematic search of PubMed, Embase, CINAHL, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, SCOPUS, and domestic database was performed for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) assessing the effect of exercise intervention on older adults with pre-dialysis CKD published until February 2023. A random-effects metaanalysis was conducted. The risk of bias was assessed using a Cochrane tool for assessing the risk of bias in RCTs (RoB 2.0). Results : The systematic review included 11 RCTs (n = 591, average age 60.2--76), of which 8 could be included for meta-analysis. Exercise was significant in increasing peak oxygen consumption and knee muscle strength among physical functions, and also in improving glomerular filtration rate among kidney functions. Conclusion : Exercise has beneficial effects on physical and renal function among older adults with pre-dialysis CKD. Purpose: Although a stream of ‘healthy aging’ has been created, there is no consensus on defining healthy aging perceived by frail older adults. This study was conducted to investigate the concept of healthy aging perceived by frail older adults. Methods: The hybrid model consisted of three phases. In the theoretical phase, defining characteristics of healthy aging among frail older adults were identified through a literature review. A total of 1,166 articles were screened, and 32 relative articles were included. During the field phase, in-depth interviews were conducted with nine frail older adults who met the frailty criteria, and the data were analyzed through content analysis. In the final phase, based on the analysis of the literature review and qualitative interviews, a final definition of healthy aging in frail older adults was extracted. Results: The concept of healthy aging perceived by frail older adults was found in cognitive, behavioral, psychological, social and independent domains. For the frail older adults, healthy aging refers to the ability to maintain one’s own health through self-management, accept aging and natural death with a positive outlook, and be independent without relying on others. Conclusion: In frail older adults, healthy aging consists of a number of multidimensional domains and 11 attributes, including maintaining health, accepting the process of aging, being positive, and being independent. Using this final definition, health promotion strategies could be developed to achieve the optimal goal. Purpose: This study aimed to understand the knowledge structure and trends in research on cancer-related cognitive impairment (CRCI) in patients with non-central nervous system (non-CNS) cancer through text network analysis and topic modeling. Methods: From 2011 to 2021, studies on CRCI in patients with non-CNS cancer registered in databases including Ovid-MEDLINE, EMBASE, Cochrane, CINAHL, CENTRAL, and PsycInfo, were extracted and cleaned into words using Python's natural language toolkit package. Text network analysis was performed using the NetworkX library, and topic modeling analysis based on the latent Dirichlet allocation algorithm was carried out using the Gensim library. Results: In total, 24,030 keywords were extracted from the abstracts of 490 selected papers, of which "chemotherapy," "breast cancer," and "quality of life" showed high frequency and centrality. As a result of the topic modeling analysis, four subject groups were derived, including cognitive impairment due to chemotherapy, breast cancer and cognitive impairment, factors related to cognitive impairment, and symptom experience. Conclusion: These findings will help cancer researchers to understand the trends and insights of research on CRCI in patients with non-CNS cancer and suggest important areas and directions for future studies. Purpose: Sleep disturbances in patients in the intensive care unit (ICU) are related to health problems after discharge. Therefore, active prevention and management are required. Hence, identification of the factors that affect sleep in patients who are critically ill is necessary. Methods: The PubMed, Cochrane Library, CINAHL, EMBASE, and Web of Science databases were searched. Selection criteria were observational and experimental studies that assessed sleep as an outcome, included adult patients admitted to the ICU, and published between November 2015 and April 2022. Results: A total of 21,136 articles were identified through search engines and manual searches, and 42 articles were selected. From these, 22 influencing factors and 11 interventions were identified. Individual factors included disease severity, age, pain, delirium, comorbidities, alcohol consumption, sex, sleep disturbance before hospitalization, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), cardiovascular disease, and high diastolic blood pressure (DBP), low hemoglobin (Hb), and low respiratory rate (RR). Environmental factors included light level, noise level, and temperature. Furthermore, treatment-related factors included use of sedatives, melatonin administration, sleep management guidelines, ventilator application, nursing treatment, and length of ICU stay. Regarding sleep interventions, massage, eye mask and earplugs, quiet time and multicomponent protocols, aromatherapy, acupressure, sounds of the sea, adaptive intervention, circulation lighting, and single occupation in a room were identified. Conclusion: Based on these results, we propose the development and application of various interventions to improve sleep quality in patients who are critically ill. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to explore needs for discharge education of family caregivers of pediatric patients through an integrated literature review. Methods: A systematic search was performed using four electronic databases (PubMed, CINAHL, Embase, and PsycINFO) guided by the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis. Data were extracted, categorized, and analyzed using the thematic analysis method. The quality of each study reviewed was assessed using the Mixed Methods Appraisal Tools (MMAT). Results: In total, 10 studies that were published between January 2012 and December 2021 were included. The MMAT quality scores ranged from 60% to 100%. In this review, needs for discharge education were categorized into contents, methods, and materials. Conclusion: Pediatrics patients' families wanted to receive clear and standardized discharge education using visual materials. In addition, they wanted to receive education in a separate place, without their children present, and with sufficient time. Thus, for effective discharge education, standardized educational methods should be developed, and visual materials, such as simulations and videos, should be used. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to analyze the experiences and perceptions of nursing students related to their cadaver practice through an integrative review. Methods: An integrative review was conducted using Whittemore and Knafl’s framework published in 2005. The key words, “nursing students & cadaver” and “nursing students & anatomy” were used to search peer-reviewed publications in six databases. Among 373 searched articles, 15 articles were selected after excluding articles that did not meet the inclusion criteria. The literature quality was moderate (levels C and B). Results: The results from the 15 selected studies were integrated and classified into seven themes: “anxiety and discomfort,” “gratitude and respect for donors,” “dignity of the human body and life,” “acceptance of death,” “getting closer to the nursing profession,” “enhanced understanding and memory of the human body” and “enhancement of learning motivation.” Conclusion: In conclusion, cadaver practice provided an opportunity to form values about the dignity of life and death, helped nursing students understand the human body, and motivated them to approach the profession of nursing. It is suggested to develop integrated cadaver practice programs that incorporate bioethics, spiritual nursing, and the vocation of the nursing profession. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: This study aimed to determine the effect of debriefing interventions on clinical competence in nursing students. Methods: A systematic review with a meta-analysis was conducted. Korean and English studies were retrieved from eight databases: KERIS, KISS, KoreaMed, NDSL, CINAHL, Cochrane Library, EMbase, and PubMed through January 2022. Fifteen studies were selected for the meta-analysis based on the inclusion criteria and low risk of bias. The data was analyzed using RevMan 5.3. and R software 3.6.2. Results: Most studies had a low risk of bias. Debriefing intervention in simulation-based education were found to be significantly effective compared to the control groups on clinical competence(Hedges'g=1.06, 95% CI=0.73~1.39, p<.001). In addition, the length of the debriefing intervention influenced the heterogeneity in the meta-ANOVA. Conclusion: Debriefing intervention in simulation-based education help improve nursing students' clinical competence in nursing students. Futhermore, our findings suggest that nursing educators should consider the length of debriefing for nursing students to improve their clinical competence. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: The objective of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to assess the effectiveness of music therapy for depression in stroke patients. Methods: 823 studies were retrieved from seven databases (PubMed, Embase, CINAHL, Cochrane Library, RISS, KISS, and NDSL). Articles published up to June 2022 were selected for this study. Eight studies that satisfied the inclusion and exclusion criteria were selected for meta-analysis. The data was analyzed using the R 4.0.2 program. Results: Most studies had a low risk of bias. The pooled effect size showed that music therapy was able to reduce depression(ES=-0.87, 95% Cl=-1.52~-0.22, p=.016). In addition, the effect sizes were evaluated for type, length per session, duration, and total sessions, but they did not show statistically significant differences between groups. Conclusion: Music therapy helps reduce depression after stroke. However, subgroup analyses did not show significant between-group differences related to the details of the implemented programs. Purpose: This study aimed to examine effect sizes of leadership styles of nursing managers on turnover intention of hospital nurses. Methods: A systematic review and meta-analysis were conducted in accordance with the PRISMA and MOOSE guidelines. Participants were nurses working in hospitals. The intervention involved nursing managers' leadership styles; the outcome assessed was nurses' turnover intention. This was an observational study design. Eleven databases were searched to obtain articles published in Korean or English. Of the 14,428 articles reviewed, 21 were included in systematic review and meta-analysis. Comprehensive Meta-Analysis and R software programs were used. Results: The total effect size r (ESr) was - 0.25 (95% confidence interval: - 0.29 to - 0.20). Effect sizes of each leadership style on turnover intention were as follows: ethical leadership (ESr = - 0.34), transformational leadership (ESr = - 0.28), authentic leadership (ESr = - 0.23), transactional leadership (ESr = - 0.21), and passive avoidant leadership (ESr = 0.13). Ethical leadership was the most effective style in decreasing turnover intention of hospital nurses. Conclusion: Positive leadership styles of nurse managers effectively decrease turnover intention of hospital nurses, and negative leadership styles of nurse managers effectively increase turnover intention of hospital nurses. The ethical leadership style is the most effective in decreasing turnover intention of hospital nurses; however, it requires careful interpretation as its effects are reported by only two studies. Purpose: This study aimed to synthesize evidence for the association of psychological stress with Telomere Length (TL)-a potential biomarker of cellular aging. Methods: A systematic literature search was conducted to identify eligible studies in the Cochrane Library, PubMed, Embase, and CINHAL. In this review, we included all papers published since the initiative's inception and summarized results as of March 2022. Studies that investigated subjective stress using questionnaires and objective stress using biomarkers of adults (aged≥18 years) were included. Ultimately, 20 studies met our selection criteria. The risk of bias was assessed using the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale. Results: Fifteen of the twenty studies (75.0%) reported that individuals with higher psychological stress levels had shorter TL. Eleven of sixteen studies (68.8%) measuring subjective stress and five of eight studies (62.5%) measuring objective stress showed significant associations of psychological stress with TL. However, five studies reported no association between psychological stress and TL shortening. Although the heterogeneous studies limited the ability to draw clear conclusions, it is suggested that psychological stress might accelerate the erosion of telomere ends. Conclusion: Our findings indicate that TL could be a useful emerging biomarker for measuring stress-related health outcomes in nursing. Further large-scale longitudinal studies using TL as a genetic biomarker with multidimensional stress measurements are needed to investigate the association between psychological stress and cellular senescence. Purpose: This study aimed to review the effectiveness of delirium education programs for nurses in acute hospitals. Methods: The inclusion criteria were studies on delirium education programs for nurses published in English and Korean from 2012 to 2022. A literature search was conducted in the RISS, KISS, DBpia, PubMed, CINAHL, PsycINFO, and Web of Science databases using the key words of "delirium", "nurse", and "education". Qualitative appraisal of studies was conducted using the revised Cochrane risk-of-bias tool for randomized trials (RoB 2) and the Risk of Bias in Non-randomized Studies of Interventions (ROBINS-I) tool translated by National Evidence-based Healthcare Collaborating Agency (NECA). For meta-analysis, the effect size of the intervention was calculated as standardized mean difference. Results: Eighteen studies were selected for the systematic review. While the contents of the education programs were similar, the teaching methods were different. Interventions implemented included traditional learning, e-learning, and blended learning. Teaching methods of delirium education programs for nurses included lecture, discussion, practice, simulation, role-play, and coaching. The systematic review found that delirium education programs for nurses effectively increased post-intervention outcomes in 17 studies. Delirium education programs for nurses have benefits regarding delirium knowledge and performance. In four studies, delirium education program interventions improved delirium nursing performance (95% CI: 0.48~2.44, p=.003). Conclusion: These results demonstrate the need for a standardized delirium education program. Purpose: This review aimed to explore current publication trends, major concepts, measurements, and intervention types regarding sleep-wake disturbance in cancer patients. Methods: Studies published up to 26 December, 2021 were examined through PubMed, EMBASE, The Cochrane Library, KMbase, CINAHAL, ScienceON and Google scholar using English and Korean keywords with appropriate definitions related to sleep-wake disturbances in cancer patients. A total of 3,542 articles were found and 73 articles introducing intervention to reduce sleep-wake disturbance were included in the final analysis. Results: Interventions for sleep-wake disturbance in cancer patients were classified into the following types: exercise interventions (38.1%), cognitive behavioral therapy (26.2%), complementary and alternative medicine intervention (19.0%), mindfulness-based stress reduction intervention (9.5%), herbal medication intervention (2.4%), dance intervention (1.2%), music intervention (1.2%) and mixed intervention (1.2%). Most of the interventions (52.1%) were performed on breast cancer patients. The Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index was the most frequently used subjective measurement. Objective measurements to measure sleep quality or sleep disturbance included actigraphy and polysomnography. Sixty- four articles (87.7%) out of 73 found that interventions to reduce sleep-wake disturbance in cancer patients were effective. Conclusion: Nursing intervention to reduce sleep-wake disturbance is important in oncology nursing practice. Purpose: The present study aimed to explore the types of non-pharmacological interventions and evaluate their effectiveness in reducing wandering behavior in patientis with dementia. Methods: This systematic review and meta-analysis followed the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) guideline. Searching eight databases (Cochrane, Ovid-MEDLINE, EMBASE, CINAHL, PubMed, PsycInfo, RISS, KISS, and KMBASE) yielded 899 related studies. Two reviewers independently assessed the quality of these studies, using Revised Cochrane risk of bias for randomized trials (ROB) 2.0 and Risk of Bias Assessment tool for Non-randomised Study (ROBANS) 2.0, based on this study design. The Algase Wandering Scale related to wandering behavior reported the standardized mean differences and their 95% confidence intervals. Results: A total of seven studies, consisting of four randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and three quasi-experimental studies, met the inclusion criteria. Among non-pharmacological interventions, aromatherapy was the most common. However, therapeutic contact, therapeutic companion robot, tailored activity program, combining physical activity, memory recall, music therapy, and multisensory stimulation were also performed in one study, respectively. In a meta-analysis (RevMan 5.4), non-pharmacological interventions reduced wandering behavior in patients with dementia and mild to moderate functional impairments (p=.003). Conclusion: The result of this meta-analysis suggests that non-pharmacological interventions are generally associated with reduced wandering behavior among patients with dementia and mild-moderate functional impairment. However, it is necessary to develop a more detailed non-pharmacological intervention for patients with dementia and wandering behavior according to their disease stage and characteristics. Purpose: This study was a scoping review designed to identify research trends in intervention studies related to the frailty of older adults in Korea. Methods: The scoping review utilized the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) protocol. A literature search was conducted on DBpia, KISS, KMBASE, NDSL, RISS, CINAHL, and PubMed. In total, 1,131 articles were identified, and 41 articles were used for the final analysis. Two reviewers independently selected studies and extracted characteristics using pre-tested forms to determine the final inclusion. Results: The most widely utilized measurement tools were the Frailty phenotype scale and a basic measurement tool for frail older adults used in a customized visiting health care project at a public health center. For the intervention program, an exercise program as well as educational and cognitive enhancement programs, nutrition kit provision, etc., was used in 40 studies. The most common outcome variables measured in this study were bodily function followed by body composition. In addition, depression, quality of life, cognitive function, daily activities, perceived health status, and falling incidents were measured. Conclusion: Research related to frailty is being conducted on community-dwelling older adults, to develop and apply interventions suitable for institutionalized older adults. In research, the use of reliable tools to determine any weakness of older adults should be expanded, and various interventions such as psychosocial interventions, nutritional provision, and exercise programs should be developed and applied. Purpose: The purpose of the study was to re-evaluate Florence Nightingale's achievements celebrating the 200th anniversary of Nightingale's birth and to reflect on her legacy. Methods: We conducted an extensive literature review with key words in Korean and English using 9 electronic databases, related data, books, articles, websites, and secondary literature. Results: As a result of this study, the five legacy of Nightingale as a social reformer were examined. First, founding nursing in response to social needs. Second, reform of the health care system. Third, a practical social activist who promoted social change for the public good. Fourth, first adoption of health statistics. Fifth, emancipation of women. Nightingale's legacy as a social reformer has had an considerable influence on our society so far. Conclusion: Nightingale was a pioneer in nursing, but she was a social reform activist who successfully transformed the medical systems and even the whole social system based on her keen insight, religious vocation, profession vision, and personal competency. In the middle of World's chaos and uncertainty due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it seems more necessary than ever to embody the legacy of Nightingale as a social reformer, and put it into practice. Purpose: Pressure ulcers (PUs) are a common problem affecting the quality of life of patients and also hindering the quality of medical services. The purpose of this scoping review was to analyze Randomized Controlled Trials (RCTs) focusing on devices used for the prevention and treatment of PUs. Methods: The scoping review was conducted using the scoping review process outlined by Arskey and O' Malley and using the JBI template. The review was described by PRISMA-ScR. Studies on relevant interventional devices for PUs were searched using electronic databases. The medical databases PubMed, CINHAL, CENTRAL, and EMBASE, and several Korean databases were searched between 2010 and July 2021. Results: Thirteen RCTs were included in the analysis. The devices used were found to be effective in the prevention and treatment of PUs by the mechanisms of either pressure relief, moisture retention, or increased blood flow. The effectiveness of the devices was measured by the incidence of PUs and the improvement in patients' quality of life and comfort after therapy. Conclusion: The use of devices for the prevention and treatment of PUs is helpful in clinical settings. Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of auriculotherapy on musculoskeletal pain in adults. Methods: A total of 885 studies were retrieved from nine databases (PubMed, Scopus, CINAHL, Web of Science, Ovid Medline, Cochrane Library, RISS, KMbase, and KISS). Sixteen studies were selected for meta-analysis, which satisfied the inclusion criteria and the evaluation of risk of bias. Demographic data, auriculotherapy types, intervention characteristics, auricular points, and outcomes related to pain (subjective pain scale, and amount of analgesic) were extracted from all included studies. The effect size of auriculotherapy was analyzed through comprehensive meta analysis 3.06, and the presence of publication bias was analyzed through a funnel plot and Egger's regression. Results: The results of the meta-analysis (n = 16) revealed that the auriculotherapy was significantly superior to the control group on present pain in adults (Hedges' g = - 0.35, 95% Confidence Interval [CI] = - 0.55~- 0.15). According to the results of subgroup analysis, the effect size of auricular acupuncture therapy (Hedges' g = 0.45, 95% CI = - 0.75~- 0.15) was higher than the auricular acupuncture (Hedges' g = 0.27, 95% CI = - 0.53~0.00): the longer the intervention period, the greater the effect size. Conclusion: In this study, auriculotherapy demonstrates a significant reduction in musculoskeletal pain in adults. Therefore, it is necessary to refine the curriculum to include auriculotherapy as a nursing intervention to relieve musculoskeletal pain in adults and encourage its use in clinical settings. Purpose: To systematically review the qualitative research related to the person-centered care experience of nursing home workers, and synthesize the results to integrate understanding. Methods: Noblit and Hare’s meta-ethnography method was applied. Seven databases were used to search the literature: PubMed, Web of Science, EMBASE, CINAHL, RISS, National Assembly Library, and Korea Citation Index (KCI). Results: Eight qualitative studies were included for the review. Three themes were synthesized: “Comprehensive understanding of nursing home residents”, “Narrowing the psychological distance with residents”, and “Moving towards the provision of tailored care”. Conclusion: Through this study, it was possible to improve the understanding of person-centered care experienced by nursing home workers. Purpose: This study aimed to assess combined effects of early oral feeding after Cesarean section (C/S) under regional anesthesia on bowel function, gastrointestinal complications and surgical recovery. Methods: A systematic literature search was conducted using KISS, RISS, PubMed, CINAHL, EMBASE, CENTRAL and Google Scholar to identify randomized clinical trials comparing early oral feeding (EOF) with delayed oral feeding (DOF) after C/S. Outcome variables were bowel function and gastrointestinal complications and surgical recovery. Effect size was calculated using weighted mean differences (WMDs) and relative risks (RRs), with 95% confidence intervals (CIs). Results: Seven studies involving 1,911 patients from 568 studies, 7 studies were included in meta-analysis. EOF was significantly associated with shorter time to recover bowel movement compared with DOF (WMD, - 2.50; CI, - 3.50--- 1.50). EOF was not associated with nausea (RR, 1.15; CI, 0.87-1.53) and vomiting (RR, 0.96; CI, 0.65-1.42), but lower incidence of abdominal distension (RR, 0.70; CI, 0.50-0.98). EOF was significantly associated with shorter time to discontinuation of intravenous fluids (WMD, - 8.88; 95% CI, - 16.65--- 1.11) and removal of urinary catheter (WMD, - 15.23; CI, - 25.62--- 4.85). Conclusion: This meta-analysis provides evidence that EOF after C/S under regional anesthesia not only accelerates return of bowel function and surgical recovery but also reduces gastrointestinal complications. This study aimed to identify the major keywords and the structure of the networks for each major topic to gain knowledge on factors influencing the quality of life of cancer survivors using Text Network Analysis (TNA) and topic modeling. Methods: The study was conducted in four steps:(1) collecting abstracts, (2) text preprocessing in Python, (3) building a co-occurrence matrix, and (4) analyzing network features and clustering topic groups. From 2010 to 2020, 133 studies related to factors affecting the quality of life of cancer survivors were collected from several databases (PubMed, Embase, Cochrane, CINAHL RISS, KoreaMed, KISS). Results: As a result of analyzing 9,968 evaluation results on "breast cancer," "female," "depression," "treatment," "age," "questionnaire," "symptom," and "diagnosis," five topics were derived after topic modeling considering coherence score and perplexity score. The main themes were breast cancer survivor, symptom experience, colon cancer survivor, psycho-social factors, and lifestyle and health management. Conclusion: Based on the results of this study, symptoms such as depression, physical activity, and lifestyle and health management are significant factors affecting the quality of life of cancer survivors. Purpose: This study was conducted to analyze and synthesize the findings of qualitative studies related to the decision-making experience of older patients with cancer in choosing treatment. Methods: We used the seven steps of Noblit and Hare’s meta-ethnography to analyze and synthesize selected qualitative studies. Seven databases were used to search the literature that explored the decision-making experiences of older patients with cancer in choosing treatment: PubMed, CINAHL, Embase, Web of Science, Research Informations Sharing Service (RISS), Koreastudies Information Service System (KISS), and National Assembly Library. Results: The final 11 studies were included in the analysis. Three themes emerged as result of synthesizing: “Checking the feasibility of treatment in one’s own life”, “The constant weighing up the gains and losses of treatment”, and “Having meanings to life”. Conclusion: This study provides an in-depth understanding of treatment decision-making experiences of older patients with cancer and highlights the complex factors that influence their treatment decision-making process. Purpose: This study synthesized the literature on eating difficulties among older adults with dementia in long-term care facilities. Methods: A scoping review, using the framework proposed by Arksey & O'Malley (2005) and supplemented by Levac et al. (2010), was conducted. Literature was searched from RISS, KISS, DBpia, PubMed, and CINAHL. Two reviewers independently selected studies and extracted their characteristics, using pre-tested forms to determine final inclusion. In total, 1283 articles were identified, and 13 articles were used for the final analysis. Results: The Eating Behavior Scale and the Edinburgh Feeding Evaluation in Dementia scale were the most widely utilized measurement tools. The most common factors related to eating behavior in older adults with dementia were cognitive and physical functions in the individual domain, the caregiver's attitude toward eating in the inter-individual domain, and meal type in the environmental domain. Conclusion: Measurement tools reflecting the eating behavior of older adults with dementia must be developed to obtain a comprehensive understanding of this issue and create effective interventions for the specific context of long-term care facilities in Korea. Purpose: This review explored trends in studies on learning outcomes in nursing education using gamification, to provide directions for future research. Methods: This scoping review was conducted according to the Joanna Briggs Institute's guidelines. The literature search date was February 1, 2021. Results: Thirty-two studies were included. The largest proportion of studies were quantitative descriptive studies, including qualitative mixed methods (34.4%). More studies applied gamification in practical classes (53.1%) than in theoretical classes. Virtual simulation games (37.9%) and simple quiz games (34.4%) were most often used. Commonly used gamification elements included scores/points, feedback, badges, countdowns, challenges, competitions, and levels. Two themes emerged regarding the impact of gamification on learning: learners' experiences and achievement outcomes with cognitive, affective, and psychomotor subthemes. Nursing education using gamification improved engagement, motivation, and learning achievement. However, there was less evidence for affective and psychomotor outcomes than for cognitive outcomes. Conclusion: Gamification can be an effective educational strategy if educator's have sufficient understanding and readiness and appropriate gamification elements are applied to nursing education. Further research should investigate knowledge retention in the cognitive domain, collaboration and empathy in the affective domain, and the improvement of nursing skills using new technologies in the psychomotor domain. Purpose: This study's objective was to investigate the effects of programs that improve adolescents' body image, using a systematic review and meta-analysis. Methods: A literature search was performed in eleven electronic databases, using preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analysis guidelines. Population characteristics, contents of the programs, and measured outcomes were systematically reviewed from 21 selected studies. To estimate the size of the effects, meta-analysis was conducted using Comprehensive Meta-Analysis software. Results: The contents of the programs that aimed to improve body image included physical, psychological, interpersonal, and sociocultural interventions. Sixteen studies were meta-analyzed to estimate the effect size of body-image improvement programs. Results showed that the program for body-image improvement had significant effects on body satisfaction (effect size [ES] = 0.56, 95% confidence interval [CI] = 0.23 to 0.89), and body dissatisfaction (ES = - 0.15, 95% CI = - 0.23 to - 0.08). Conclusion: The program for body image improvement in adolescents includes a combination of physical, psychological, interpersonal relationship, and socio- cultural dimensions. The program that seeks to improve body image appears to be effective at increasing body satisfaction, and at reducing body dissatisfaction in adolescents. Purpose: This review aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of exercise on Chemotherapy-induced Peripheral Neuropathy (CIPN). Methods: The medical databases PubMed, EMBASE, and CINAHL, and several Korean databases were searched until December 2020. Additionally, a manual search was conducted. The risk of bias was assessed using the revised Cochrane risk-of-bias tool for randomized trials. The Review Manager 5.3 version of the Cochrane Library was used to estimate effect size through meta-analysis. Results: Nine studies were included. The most common types of exercise reported were yoga, combined aerobics and strength exercise, and combined strength and balance exercise; each was backed by two studies. Four randomized controlled trials were meta-analyzed, and five studies were synthesized qualitatively. A significant effect on CIPN was found using meta-analysis (standardized mean difference=-0.28, 95% confidence interval=-0.47~-0.09, p=.004). As a result of qualitative synthesis, groups that did exercises were reported to have significantly lessened CIPN symptoms than control groups in three studies. In one study, the exercise group showed significant reduction in CIPN symptoms. And in another, the exercise group was more relieved of CIPN symptoms than the control group, although the difference was not significant. Conclusion: The results indicate that exercise should be part of the regimen for patients who are receiving or have completed neurotoxic chemotherapy, for relieving CIPN symptoms. However, these results should be interpreted cautiously, especially due to the limited number of studies and the small number of participants. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of non-pharmacological interventions (NPIs) on depression among patients with lung cancer. Methods: A systematic review and meta-analysis were conducted focusing on randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and quasi-experimental studies. A literature search was performed through PubMed, EMBASE, CINAHL, PsycINFO, Cochrane Library, and five Korean databases in November 2020. Data were analyzed using the Comprehensive Meta-Analysis Ver. 3.0 and Review Manager Ver. 5.4 programs. Results: A total of 37 studies, including 25 RCTs and 12 quasi-experimental studies, were identified; 27 studies reported data suitable for meta-analysis. In meta-analysis, the overall effect sizes for NPIs of RCTs and quasi-experimental studies were -0.61 (95% confidence interval (CI): -0.90, -0.31) and -0.40 (95% CI: -0.59, -0.21), respectively. Among the types of NPI in RCTs, the effect size of psychological therapy was the largest with -0.68 (95% CI: -1.13, -0.23). In addition, information & communication technology (ICT) had a larger effect size of -0.68 (95% CI: -1.13, -0.23), compared to face-to-face intervention. Conclusion: NPIs may have a significant effect in reducing depressive symptoms in patients with lung cancer. Purpose: This systematic review and meta-analysis analyzed the effects of 2% chlorhexidine bathing on the incidence of hospital-acquired infection (HAI) and multidrug-resistant organisms (MDRO) in adult intensive care units. Methods: PubMed, CINAHL, Cochrane library, and RISS database were systematically searched, and 12 randomized studies were included in the analysis. Comprehensive Meta-Analysis version 3.0 was used to calculate the effect size using the odds ratio (OR) and a 95% confidence interval (CI). Subgroup analysis was performed according to the specific infection and intervention types. Results: In general, 2% chlorhexidine bathing has a significant effect on the incidence of HAI (OR, 0.59; 95% CI, 0.40~0.86) and MDRO (OR, 0.52; 95% CI, 0.34~0.79). Subgroup analyses show 2% chlorhexidine bathing is effective in bloodstream infections (OR, 0.51; 95% CI, 0.39~0.66) but not for urinary tract infections, ventilator-associated pneumonia infections, and Clostridium difficile infections. Moreover, 2% chlorhexidine bathing alone or its combination with other interventions has a significant effect on the incidence of HAI and MDRO (OR, 0.59; 95% CI, 0.38~0.92). Conclusion: This meta-analysis reveals that 2% chlorhexidine bathing significantly reduces the incidence of HAI and MDRO in intensive care units. The effect of 2% chlorhexidine bathing on pediatric patients or patients at general wards should be further assessed as a cost-effective intervention for infection control. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose : The aim of this integrative review was to describe communication experiences and needs among the critically ill with an artificial airway and evaluate relevant intervention studies. Methods: Using the method employed by Whittemore and Knafl (2005), we searched for papers on PubMed, CINAHL, and Web of Science published from January 1, 2015 to September 25, 2020. A total of 26 papers (11 descriptive studies, 15 experimental ones) were identified and evaluated. Results: Communication experiences while having an artificial airway, identified either by patients' recall or direct observation, were predominantly negative. However, positive experiences were reported in patients with improvements in physical conditions and functions. Patients' communication needs were diverse, encompassing physical, psycho-emotional, social, spiritual, and medical issues. Interventions tested included alternative and augmentative communication strategies, communication intervention packages, and voice restorative devices. Physical, psychosocial, and communication-related patient outcomes were evaluated using various methods including self-report surveys, interviews, and observations. Conclusions: The findings from this review represent the state of science regarding communication of the critically ill whose vocal abilities are inhibited by the presence of an artificial airway. Future studies with rigorous experimental designs and measures are warranted to better understand and support the complex needs of this highly vulnerable patient population. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to use a systematic review to investigate how infection control education has been designed, implemented and evaluated in undergraduate programs in nursing. Methods: This study was conducted base on the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA). To search studies related to infection control education programs, Ovid-EMBASE, CINAHL, Pubmed, KoreaMed, KMBASE and KISS were used. A total of 2,306 studies were identified, and 13 studies were selected for final analysis. Results: Ten studies out of 13 were designed as pre-post, no control group, quasi-experimental study designs. Nosocomial infection and standard precautions related infection control education were the most frequently selected topics and online was the most common teaching-learning method. The infection control education programs showed significant effect on knowledge and attitude. The mean difference of 7 studies for knowledge was 5.1 (95% CI: 2.36, 8.67, p<.001) and the mean difference of 4 studies for attitude was 3.34 (95% CI: 0.12, 6.55, p<.001 ). Conclusion: The results of this study indicate that infection control education effectively improves the knowledge, attitude and compliance of nursing students. Purpose: This study aimed to review recent findings from birth cohort studies on maternal and child environmental health. Methods: Birth cohort studies regarding environmental health outcomes for mothers and their children were investigated through a systematic review A literature search was conducted in PubMed, CINAHL, the Cochrane Library Embase, and RISS to identify published studies using the keywords using a combination of the following keywords: maternal exposure, environmental exposure, health, cohort, and birth cohort. Articles were searched and a quality appraisal using the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale for cohort studies was done. Results A review of the 14 selected studies revealed that prenatal and early life exposure to environmental pollutants had negative impacts on physical, cognitive, and behavioral development among mothers and children up to 12 years later. Environmental pollutants included endocrine disruptors, air pollution (e.g., particulate matter), and heavy metals. Conclusion This systematic review demonstrated that exposure to environmental pollutants negatively influences maternal and children's environmental health outcomes from pregnancy to the early years of life. Purpose: The objective of this study was to analyze the effects of non-pharmacological interventions on cancer patients with sleep disorder. Methods: A total of 4,246 studies published between 2000 and 2018 were identified by searching NDSL, RISS, Koreamed, PubMed, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, and CINAHL. Seventeen of these studies were selected for inclusion in the meta-analysis. Data were analyzed using the Comprehensive Meta-Analysis (CMA) Ver. 3.4.1 program, and the effect sizes were shown using Hedges'g score. Results: Intervention studies included 8 studies on exercise, 4 studies on cognitive-behavioral therapy, 2 studies on music, and 1 study each on aromatherapy, massage, and mindfulness-based stress reduction. The overall controlled effect size was .78 (95% Confidence Interval=.40, 1.16, Z=4.02, p<.001), using a random effects model. Conclusion: Through this study, it was found that the effects of exercise (walking), aromatherapy, massage, and music intervention were all statistically significant. As such, the findings of this study provide evidence supporting the incorporation of various non-pharmacological interventions into nursing practice to improve sleep quality in patients with sleep disorder. Purpose: This study aimed to review the outcomes of nurse residency programs for new graduate nurses. Methods: The inclusion criteria were peer-reviewed articles on the outcomes of nurse residency programs for new graduate nurses published in English from 2010 to 2019. A literature search was conducted in the PubMed, CINAHL, Science Direct, EMBASE, and PsycINFO databases using the search terms "nurse residency program," "new graduate nurse," and "transition to practice program." A qualitative appraisal of studies was conducted using the revised Cochrane risk-of-bias tool for randomized trials (RoB 2) and the Risk Of Bias In Non-randomized Studies of Interventions (ROBINS-I) tool. Results: Twenty-five studies were selected. The systematic review found that nurse residency programs effectively increased the competence and confidence of new graduate nurses in 14 studies. Job satisfaction, job stress and anxiety, and support showed different results, which were increased, decreased, or statistically insignificant after the programs. In three studies, institutional outcomes, including the retention rate in 16 surveys and hospital cost savings, were improved. Patient safety had different results depending upon the study. Conclusion: This study's results can provide evidence for the necessity of a standardized nursing education program and for developing a system for evaluating its effectiveness to improve the quality of nursing education. Purpose: This study was a scoping review designed to identify research trends in education programs for newly graduated nurses in Korea. Methods: The methodological framework was based on a previous work by Arksey and O'Malley. The studies reviewed were found through electronic databases, such as DBpia, RISS, PubMed, and CINAHL. The scope of the data was from January 2000 to December 2019. Each study was analyzed, and extracted data were abstracted into the following domains: publication characteristics, study design, program details, and program evaluation. Results: The 26 studies were reviewed. The majority of the educational domain was competency enhancement education. The following teaching methods were used: lectures, demonstrations, simulations, team based learning, and discussions. Most educational program evaluations involved reaction and learning evaluation. Conclusion: Appropriate education is essential for newly graduated nurses to adapt to their work. However, there was a lack of research on education programs for newly graduated nurses to adapt to their work before gaining clinical experience. Results indicate that it is necessary to develop various education programs and program evaluations. Purpose: The objective of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to estimate the effectiveness of problem-based learning in developing student nurses' critical thinking, problem solving, and self-directed learning. Methods: To conduct the meta-analysis, 1,963 studies were retrieved from eight databases (Pubmed, EMbase, CINAHL, Cochrane Library, KERIS, KISS, NDSL, KoreaMed) without restriction on publication year. Articles published up to March 2019 were selected for this study. Fourteen studies were selected for meta-analysis based on satisfaction of inclusion criteria and low risk of bias. Baseline demographic data, exercise features, and outcome data were extracted from all trials included. The data was analyzed using the RevMan 5.3 program. Results: Most studies were of low risk of bias. The pooled effect size showed problem-based learning was able to improve nursing students' critical thinking (ES=0.29, 95% Cl=0.04~0.54, p=.002), problem solving (ES=0.39, 95% Cl=-0.09~0.87, p=.11), and self-directed learning (ES=0.35, 95% Cl=-0.22~0.91, p=.23) compared with traditional lectures. Conclusion: PBL help improve the critical thinking in nursing students. Although problem solving and self directed learning were not affected, more research with a larger sample size and repeated meta-analysis of PBL are required. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: This study aimed to identify parental factors associated with smartphone overuse in preschoolers. Methods: A systematic review was conducted according to PRISMA guidelines. Relevant studies published in peer-reviewed journals from 2009 to June 2019 were identified through systematic search in 10 electronic databases (PubMed, CINAHL, Cochrane Central, EMBASE, Web of Science, NDSL, KISS, KMbase, KoreaMed, and RISS). Standardized effect sizes were calculated to quantify the associations of parental factors with smartphone overuse in preschoolers using meta-analysis. Results: A total of 30 cross-sectional studies involving 7,943 participants met the inclusion criteria. The following were negatively correlated with smartphone overuse in preschoolers: mother's parenting self-efficacy ( r=-.35), mother-child attachment ( r=-.28), mother's positive parenting behavior ( r=-.28), mother's positive parenting attitude ( r=-.25), and father's parenting involvement ( r=-.15). Further, maternal factors such as smartphone addiction tendency ( r=.41), parenting stress ( r=.40), negative parenting behavior ( r=.35), negative parenting attitude ( r=.14), smartphone usage time ( r=.26), employment status ( r=.18), and age ( r=.12) were positively correlated with smartphone overuse in preschoolers. Conclusion: Several parental factors influence smartphone overuse in preschoolers. These findings emphasize the need to assess and enhance the parental factors identified in this study to prevent smartphone overuse in preschoolers. Purpose: Previous randomized controlled trials (RCT) found that mind-body therapy can improve the health outcomes of patients with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). The purpose of this meta-analysis was to identify the combined effects of mind-body therapy on patients' IBS symptoms, quality of life, anxiety, and depression. Methods: A systematic literature search was conducted using various databases such as PubMed, EMBASE, CINAHL CENTRAL, DBpia, RISS, and KISS. The primary outcome variables were IBS symptoms and quality of life; the secondary outcome variables were anxiety and depression. Comprehensive Meta-Analysis version 3.0 was used to analyze the extracted data. The effect size was calculated using standardized mean difference (SMD) and 95% confidence interval (CI). Results: Eleven final RCTs were used for this meta-analysis. Mind-body therapy was found to have a significant effect on the IBS patients' symptoms (SMD, -0.63; 95% CI, -0.77 to -0.48), quality of life (SMD, 1.03; 95% CI, 0.40 to 1.66), anxiety (SMD, -0.28; 95% CI, -0.47 to -0.09), and depression (SMD, -0.31; 95% CI, -0.06 to -0.12). Conclusion: This meta-analysis reveals that mind-body therapy significantly improves IBS patients' symptoms, quality of life, anxiety, and depression. The results suggest that, in the future, appropriate mind-body therapy should be applied to Koreans suffering from IBS. Moreover, the therapy's long-term effects should be assessed. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to analyze anxiety and depression among infertile women at different time points during the first In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) or Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) treatment through a systematic review and meta-analysis. Methods: Seven out of 3,011 studies were included for meta-analysis. To estimate the effect size, a meta-analysis of the studies was performed using the RevMan 5.3 program. We compared the measurement outcomes at three time points: before the start of treatment (T0), cancellation of treatment after pregnancy detection (T2), one to six months after treatment (T3). The effect size used was the standardized mean difference (SMD). Results: In comparing the different time points of the pregnant women from their cycle, significantly lower levels of depression were found at T2 than at T0. In non-pregnant women, anxiety at T2 and depression at T2 and T3 were significantly higher than those at T0. At T2 and T3, the non-pregnant women reported higher levels of anxiety and depression compared with the pregnant women. Conclusion: Anxiety and depression in infertile women undergoing the first IVF or ICSI are associated with the time points and pregnancy status after treatment. These findings suggest that attention should be paid to helping infertile women prepare for and cope with treatment and treatment failure. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: This study aimed at identifying factors related to persistent postoperative pain after cardiac surgery and estimating their effect sizes. Methods: The literature search and selection was conducted in four different databases (CINAHL, Cochrane Library, PubMed, and PQDT) using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis Statement. A total of 14 studies met the inclusion criteria and were systematically reviewed. For the meta-analysis, R was used to analyze 30 effect sizes of for both individual and operative factors as well as publication biases from a total of nine studies. Results: The meta-analysis revealed that persistent postoperative pain after cardiac surgery was related to one individual factor (gender) and two operative factors (acute postoperative pain and use of the internal mammary artery). Operative factors (OR=5.26) had a larger effect size than individual factors (OR=1.53). Conclusion: Female gender, acute pain after surgery, and use of the internal mammary artery are related factors to persistent postoperative pain. The development of interventions focusing on modifiable related factors, such as acute postoperative pain, may help to minimize or prevent PPP after cardiac surgery. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: The purpose of this integrative review was to synthesize previous research on perceptions of school health care among school-aged children and adolescents with chronic diseases. Methods: This study was performed in accordance with Whittemore and Knafl's stages of an integrative review (problem identification, literature search, data evaluation, data analysis, and presentation of the results). Four databases (PubMed, CINAHL, Embase, and Web of Science) were used to retrieve relevant articles. Results: Eighteen articles were included in this review. We identified five thematic categories: peer-related issues, a safe school environment, self-perception of an existing disease, self-management, and a supportive school environment. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to review studies investigating the effect of bereavement care provided for parents in the neonatal intensive care unit. Methods: We conducted a literature review of databases (MEDLINE, Embase, Cochrane Library, and CINAHL) for studies published in English and four databases (RISS, KISS, NANET, and KoreaMed) for Korean studies. The selection criteria included original articles that evaluated the parents' perceptions or responses to bereavement care provided in the neonatal intensive care unit. Of 889 articles from the initial screening, 66 articles underwent full-text review and five articles were finally selected for analysis. Results: None of the studies was conducted in Korea. Only one study used a randomized control trial design. The forms of bereavement care reviewed included a provision of a memory package, grief information, and emotional and/or social support from peers or health care providers. The effectiveness of bereavement care was measured by including grief, social support, and depression. Conclusion: Bereavement care can be considered to be beneficial for relieving grief reactions and enhancing the personal growth of bereaved parents. Future research should assess the needs of bereaved parents in Korea. Nurses may play a role in developing the bereavement care for parents. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of aerobic exercise on serum lipids, body weight, and body mass index in adults with hypertension using a systematic review and meta-analysis. Methods: Six electronic databases (PubMed, EMBASE, Cochrane library, CINAHL, PsycINFO, SPORTDiscus) and five domestic databases were searched for randomized controlled trials studies. We used random effect models to derive weighted mean differences (WMD) and their 95% confidence intervals (CI) of aerobic exercise on serum lipids, body weight, and body mass index. Results: Nineteen studies met our inclusion criteria. In comparison with the control group, triglyceride level (TG) (-13.49 mg/dL, 95% CI: -26.74 to -0.24) and body weight (-0.62 kg, 95% CI: -1.08 to -0.16) difference between follow-up and baseline was significantly reduced in the aerobic exercise group. However, no difference was found in total cholesterol (TC), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) and body mass index (BMI). Conclusion: Aerobic exercise is effective in reducing the TG level and body weight in adults with hypertension. In order to improve levels of serum TC, LDL-C and HDL-C of hypertensive patients, it's needed to combine other intervention methods such as diet therapy. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
