Objective : Spinal SAH is an unusual disease that occasionally occurs spinal cord injury. This report intended to estimate the effect that taken by using oriental treatment on the patient with the sequelae of spinal SAH. Methods : We have observed this case of patient treated by Dong’s acupuncture therapy, pharmacopuncture therapy, Mae-sun therapy and herbal medication, etc. Results : The patient showed improvements in pain, power and sensory function Conclusion : Oriental treatments such as Dong’s acupuncture therapy, pharmacopuncture therapy, Mae-sun therapy and herbal medication can be effective for the sequelae of spinal SAH.

This paper proposes a method of estimating the position of a moving object equipped with a built-in camera by utilizing two-dimensional codes on the wall to support its mobility. A key idea of the proposed method is to acquire homography by matching a two-dimensional code image with image features obtained by the SIFT algorithm. Accordingly, estimating the position and direction of the moving object can be performed by analyzing the homography matrix. The proposed method has an advantage that it can perform position estimation from a greater distance than those of conventional methods and enables multiple devices to simultaneously utilize the same code. Since the proposed method also reduces the requirement of sensors for position estimation, it can be an effective method with lower cost. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

ObjectiveWe evaluated the effect on treatment using the new International Association of Diabetes and Pregnancy Study Group (IADPSG) criteria for gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) diagnosis.MethodsSingleton pregnant women whose plasma glucose levels were ≥140 mg/dL on the 50 g glucose challenge test (GCT) underwent 75 g oral glucose tolerance for GDM diagnosis. During the first half of the study period, GDM was diagnosed using 2 abnormal values by Carpenter-Coustan (C-C) criteria. In the second half of the study period, 1 or more abnormal values by IADPSG criteria were used for GDM diagnosis. Pregnant women were classified into 5 groups: normal 50 g GCT, positive 50 g GCT but non-GDM, GDM by IADPSG criteria and non-treated, GDM by IADPSG criteria and treated, GDM by C-C criteria and treated. The odds ratios (ORs) for large for gestational age (LGA) and macrosomia were analyzed.ResultsOf the 2,678 patients, the frequency of GDM diagnosed by C-C and IADPSG criteria was 2.6% and 7.5%. ORs (95% confidence intervals [CIs]) for LGA and macrosomia in the group with GDM by IADPSG criteria and non-treated were 2.81 (95% CI, 1.47–5.38) and 2.84 (95% CI, 1.08–7.47). The risk of LGA and macrosomia did not increase in the group with GDM by IADPSG criteria and treated.ConclusionThe risk of LGA and macrosomia for mild GDM diagnosed solely by IADPSG criteria depends on whether they are treated or not. Background Arginine vasopressin (AVP) is widely used as a vasopressor agent. Some recent studies have suggested that AVP may exert an immunomodulatory effect. However, the mechanism about the anti-inflammatory effect of AVP is not well known. We investigated the effect of AVP on the ihibitor of kappa B (IκBα)/nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-κB) pathway in RAW 264.7 cells. Methods Cultured RAW 264.7 cells were pretreated with AVP and stimulated with lipopolysaccharide (LPS). To evaluate the effect of AVP on inflammatory cytokines, the concentration of interleukin-6 (IL-6) and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) were assessed by an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay technique. The expression of IκBα and nuclear translocation of NF-κB p65 were measured by Western blotting, and IκB kinase (IKK) activity was analyzed by an in vitro immune complex kinase assay. To confirm the AVP effect on IκBα/NF-κB cascade and via V2 receptor, we added tolvaptan (V2 receptor antagonist) after AVP pretreatment. Results The increase of IL-6 and TNF-α in LPS-stimulated RAW 264.7 cells was suppressed by a treatment with AVP. Pretreatment of AVP inhibited increasing of IKK activity and IκBα degradation induced by LPS in RAW 264.7 cells. Furthermore, LPS induced and NF-κB transcription was inhibited by AVP pretreatment. The observed changes in IKK activity, IκBα degradation and NF-κB transcription by AVP was abolished by tolvaptan treatment. Conclusions Our results suggest that AVP showed anti-inflammatory effect on LPS-induced IκBα/NF-κB cascade in mouse macrophages via V2 receptors.

Objectives : The purpose of this study is to compare the effects of Sweet Bee Venom Pharmacopuncture and Scolopendrid Pharmacopuncture on Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. Methods : From February to September 2010, the number of patients with Carpal Tunnel Syndrome who volunteered for this clinical study was 16 and 7 out of 16 patients complained both hands. Total 23 cases of hands were randomly divided by 2 groups. We injected Sweet Bee Venom Pharmacopuncture on PC7(Daereung) twice a week for 4weeks for experimental group(n=11), and Scolopendrid Pharmacopuncture with the same methods for control group(n=12). One case was dropped out due to itchiness of allergic response in the experimental group. Improvement of the symptoms was evaluated by Visual Analogue Scale, Pain Rating Scale, Tinel’s sign, Phalen’s sign and Nerve Conduction Velocity. Nerve Conduction Velocity was checked at baseline and the end of the trial and others were checked at baseline, after 2 and 4 weeks. Results : Both groups showed significant improvement in Visual Analogue Scale, Pain Rating Scale, but no significant difference between two groups. Only the control group showed significant reduction of the‘ poitive response’in the Tinel’s sign and Phalen’s sign. However, no groups improved in Nerve Conduction Velocity. Conclusions : These results showed that Sweet Bee Venom Pharmacopuncture and Scolopendrid Pharmacopuncture could decrease the symptoms of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. Further studies will be required to examine more cases for the long period and use more various concentration and amount pharmacopuncture for the effect on Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.

Objective : The purpose of this study is to investigate the difference of treatment effects and allergic responses to stiff neck between Bee Venom Pharmacopuncture and Sweet Bee Venom Pharmacopuncture. Methods : Forty one patients who felt stiff neck were randomly divided into two groups, a Bee Venom Pharmacopuncture group(group Ⅰ) and a Sweet Bee Venom Pharmacopuncture group(group Ⅱ). Evaluations of the treatment effects were made before and after a treatment using Visual Analog Scale(VAS), Neck Disability Index(NDI), Clinical Evaluation Grade(CEG). Purpose : In order to profits to investigator who want to know acupuncture and moxbustion treatments are available to what symptoms today and how goes on the clinical lecture for oriental medical students, this research was carried out. Methods : The following conclusion were derived from 745 of patients who treated in acupunture & moxibustion department of Dongeui Oriental Medical hospital from the July in 2006 till January in 2007. Results : 1. There were 203(27.25%) persons of Lumbago, 101(13.56%) persons of Bell's palsy, 94(12.62%) persons of Omalgia, 80(10.74%) persons of paralysis of limb, 74(9.94%) persons of disordinary sense of limb and etc. 2. There were 395 females(53.02%) and 350 males(46.98%). 3. The patients over 60th were 26.72%, the 50th were 23.08%, the 40th were 22.14%, the 30th were 15.44%, 20th were 8.45%. So the older the more patients. Conclusion : In accordance with the above results, acupuncture & moxibustion teatments are good to use degenerative musculoskeletal disease, pain, paralysis and etc.
