The cases of well known art works damaged by mentally disturbed persons are described in this study. The oldest case in the world history of Herostratus (Herostratus syndrome) is discussed and compared with contemporary terrorism. The author tells about her personal participation in investigation of damaging Rembrandt's "Danaja" in Sankt Peterburg's Ermitage and presents the data from Lithuanian citizen Bronius M. illness case. The histories of damaged art works' creation and their restoration are described in this paper as well as their correlation with psychiatry. There are presented links of art works and their authors with Lithuania. Motives of art vandals and vandalism acts in Lithuania are discussed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
