In 1966, the inauguration of the Museum of Spanish Abstract Art in the Hanging Houses of Cuenca with the collection of Fernando Zóbel was a milestone for the history of contemporary art in our country. From an architectural and urbanistic point of view, it also had a crucial significance in the urban regeneration process. The restoration works to adapt the building for the museum were not an isolated intervention. At the same time, Fernando Zóbel and some artists of his social environment carried out similar actions to move into the historic center of Cuenca, leading a dynamic that transformed the city into an artistic and cultural settlement. The drawings they made of their houses were originally published on the magazine Arquitectura. These drawings are the storyline of this episode of our history, when a group of artists led the initiative in the restoration of traditional architecture and urban regeneration.
