Rice husk is a by-product of the milling process of ripe rice grains. It provides important nutrients such as phosphorus and potassium and when mixed with soil and fertilizers, it delays soil compaction and hardening, favoring root and plant development. In this study, for the first time in Cuba, the application effect of rice husks as mulch in a three-year-old avocado plantation was evaluated. A notable increase in the number of mycorrhizal fungi spores was obtained, as well as a significant increase in yield, soil moisture retention and a control in the proliferation of unwanted plants. The garden pea is an important protein crop that, thanks to their ability to fix nitrogen through a symbiotic relationship with Rhizobium species, improve nutritional potential and restore soil. Root development plays a key role in the efficient use of soil resources. The aim of the present work is to study the root characteristics of a collection of peas (Pisum sativum L.). The study tested 47 genotypes of peas from the working collection of the Maritsa Vegetable Crops Research Institute (MVCRI), Plovdiv, Bulgaria in the period 2020-2021. The main root characteristics, the Specific Root Length (SRL), Specific Nodulation Capacity (SNC) and Provision of Root Biomass with Nodules (PRBN) were determined. Genotypes with long roots (Spar 16 cm) and a large number of 184 nodules (Early Roy) with high weight (0.330 g) were identified. Genotypes with minimal nodulation ability (IZK-Konkord) have also been registered. The SRL ranges from 5.00 cm g-1 mass to 25.93 cm g-1 mass. Genotypes IZK-L224, RodShef, Supre, Menv and Supr with root characteristics around the average were distinguish the highest SNC. A good Provision of Root Biomass with Nodules characterizes the studied 47 genotypes from the working collection of IZK. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In Santa Ana, Department of El Salvador, there is an accession of coffee derived from Bourbon, which has been sheltered for several generations, enjoying resistance to this disease and maintaining cup quality. The objectives of the work were to establish a micropropagation protocol for this variety, as well as to perform the molecular characterization of the vitroplants obtained. Mature seeds were used, disinfected and introduced into a sterile solution of boric acid and cysteine. The culture medium was an MS (pH 5.7) with 0.5 mg L-1 of 6- BAP. For multiplication, MS was used with the macrosalts at half the initial concentration, supplemented with 1.5 mg L-1 of 6-BAP and 30 g L-1 of sucrose. The multiplication rates varied between 2.1 and 4.5 with statistical differences. For the phase of development and rooting the MS culture medium was used with two treatments: one, without hormone with the macrosalts at half the concentration, and another, of the same formulation plus 2.5 mg L-1 of ANA and 10 g L -1 of sucrose; both kept in darkness for 14 days. For the indicators of number and length of roots in the phase of development and rooting, the formulation medium MS without hormone (T1), presented statistical differences, so it is proposed for the propagation of this accession of coffee. The statistical analysis was Analysis of Variance, with comparison of means by Tukey. For the determination of the genetic fingerprint, microsatellite markers or repeated simple sequences (SSRs) were used; establishing that all the resulting plants have the same genetic profile. Banana is the main export crop in Urabá. Yield components are influenced by fertilization, soil decompaction and root stimulation. The objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of an auxin-based rooting agent and a phosphorus fertilizer, as a complement to soil decompaction, on established banana plantations. The trial was carried out at Finca la Luz, Apartadó-Antioquia, where two study plots were established, each consisting of one hectare. Treatment T1 (multiraiz + phosphorus and subsoiling) was applied to one of the plots and T2 (control + subsoiling) to the other. Fifteen days after the treatment was applied, a count was made to measure the development of fine, thin, medium, and large roots in 10 plants with treatment T1 and 10 plants with treatment T2. Then, at 9 weeks, biometric data were collected. The variables evaluated were height of the shoot, shoot diameter at 30 cm, and number of leaves after F10. The analysis performed was an ANOVA and Tukey's test, using the Python statistical program. There were no significant differences between treatments, and they had no significant effect on root development. Similarly, the results obtained by biometric analysis showed that there were no differences between treatments. This may be because subsoiling itself is a task that stimulates root renewal. In Colombia, banana is the third agricultural product with the highest income; given its importance, it is necessary to develop practices to increase the yield of this crop. The propose of this trial was to evaluate the application of auxin-based rooting agents and high phosphorus fertilizers on root development and vegetative growth. The trial was carried out at the La Luz farm (Apartadó) where a total area of two hectares was established in which the treatments (T1: rooting + phosphorus and T2: control) were applied. Twenty days after the T1 treatment was applied, 10 plants per treatment were evaluated, the number of fine, thin, medium and large roots were counted, and 9 weeks later, the number of leaves, height and diameter of the son were counted. The results show that for the medium (p=0.1515) and large (p=0.1463) root variables, the p-values are close to the significance level, which could require a greater number of samples to obtain conclusive results, while for the fine (p=0.7302) and thin (p=0.3311) root variables there are no significant differences. For the biometric variables of the shoots, the height variable (p=0.0024) had significant differences between treatments, the variables number of leaves (p=0.0355) and diameter (p=0.0435) had no significant differences between treatments. Thus, it is concluded that the application of rooting and phosphoric fertilizer has an effect on the growth of the shoots in the conditions of the study area. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
