Background and Aims: A sedentary lifestyle can lead to cardiovascular diseases such as atherosclerosis. Despite the use of therapeutic interventions such as angioplasty in patients with atherosclerosis, the recurrence of stenosis is possible. Rehabilitation exercises can improve the function and structure of blood vessels by improving the biomechanics of the blood flow. In this study, we aim to assess the effect of eight weeks of aerobic exercise on selected blood biomechanical variables in the bilateral femoral artery of middle-aged men up to seven days after coronary angioplasty. Methods: In this quasi-experimental study, participants were 30 men with coronary angioplasty aged 45-60 years, referred to the cardiac rehabilitation clinic of Tehran Heart Hospital. They were assigned to two exercise and control groups. Their systolic and diastolic blood velocity, pressure, and intensity were first measured. The aerobic exercise program was then performed according to the American College of Sports Medicine instructions. Analysis of covariance, paired t-test, or Wilcoxon test were used based on their results. The significance level was set at 0.05. Results: The resting heart rate and systolic and diastolic blood pressures were at the same level in both groups, but the maximum heart rate of the control group was lower. The results showed no significant difference between two groups in any blood variables. Conclusion: The effect of aerobic exercise was not confirmed in this study, may be due to heart disease or structural changes in the arteries (increased arterial stiffness and decreased arterial elasticity, especially in peripheral arteries). To increase the effect of rehabilitation exercises on peripheral arteries rather than central arteries, more intensity and duration of exercises are recommended to achieve the desired result. Background: Recently, researchers have become more interested in the role of thyroid hormones in acute coronary syndromes. In the present study, the serum levels of thyroid hormones in STEMI patients at the time of hospital admission and the it's correlation in the success rate in primary percutaneous intervention which is depicted in the form of ST-resolution was evaluated. Methods: In this study, 500 patients who underwent primary angioplasty in Shahid Madani Tabriz hospital within early 2016 and late 2017 were included. The participants were divided in two groups: group 1 (decrease in ST-resolution less than 50%) and group 2 (decrease in ST-RESOLUTION more than 50%). Correlations between thyroid hormones, ST resolution, mortality and Major Adverse Cardiovascular Events (MACE) were assessed. Findings: The mean age of the patients was 57.22 ± 11.32 years old while 401 patients (80.2%) were male and 99 patients (19.8%) were female. In 152 patients (30.4%) ST resolution was 50% and less (group 1) and in 348 patients (69.6%) ST-RESOLUTION was more than 50%. No significant correlation was found between TSH and FT3 levels and ST resolution. Also, MACE and thyroid hormones didn’t have any correlation. Conclusion: The finding of the present study showed there was no significant relationship between ST resolution and MACE and FT4, TSH and FT3 levels.

Background and aim: Coronary artery disease is one of the most common forms of cardiovascular disease. Angioplasty is a common technique for its treatment. Adherence is an important factor in preventing the progression of coronary heart disease in patients undergoing angioplasty. Therefore, the present study was conducted in order to determine the medication adherence in patients undergoing repeat angioplasty in Shaheed Rajaei Cardiovascular Medical and Research Center in 2021. Methods: This cross-sectional study, was performed on 92 patients referring to Shaheed Rajaei cardiovascular medical and research center undergoing coronary artery restenosis following repeat angioplasty. Patients were selected with convenience sampling. The instruments used in this study included the demographic information scale and the Medication Adherence Rating Scale )MARS(. Results: The mean of patients' age was (60.60±6.53) and the majority of the patients were males (55%), and mostly under diploma (34%). The mean score of professional self-concept was 3.04±1.21. The intentional medication noncompliance with the mean of (2.82±0.96) was higher than unintentional medication noncompliance with the mean of (0.23±0.47). There was inconsistency between adherence to Medication and demographic information, which indicates the fact that medication non-adherence, was not seen in the whole study population. Conclusion: Considering that almost the majority of patients did not have medication adherence after angioplasty and were referred for repeat angioplasty, therefore, nurses should help with the prevention of repeat angioplasty through the use of appropriate measures influencing adherence to the therapeutic plan at discharge from the hospital. BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Coronary artery restenosis following angioplasty may lead to major unwanted cardiac events. This is one of the most important concerns of cardiologists. This study was performed to evaluate the predictors of coronary artery restenosis in patients undergoing angioplasty. METHODS: In this cohort study, all 2159 patients who referred to Madani Hospital in Khorramabad, Iran for angioplasty between 2004 and 2015 were followed up regarding the incidence of coronary artery restenosis for one or two years (at least 50% stenosis in the place of the previous angioplasty) depending on the type of stent, and clinical variables related to the lesion and procedure were recorded in an information form. Then, agents for predicting coronary artery restenosis were identified based on CART (Classification and Regression Tree). FINDINGS: Cumulative incidence of coronary artery restenosis was 12.9% (279 patients) in subcategories: non-drug-eluting stent (25.8%, 114 patients), comorbidity of diabetes and hyperlipidemia (under the subcategory of drug-eluting stents, 19%, 32 patients), multiple drug-eluting stents (under the subcategory of non-diabetic patients, 14.6%, 25 patients), comorbidity of hyperlipidemia and drug abuse (under the subcategory of non-diabetic group who use one drug-eluting stent, 12.8%, 16 patients). CONCLUSION: According to the results of this study, stent type, history of diabetes, number of stents, hyperlipidemia and drug abuse are among the most important predictors of coronary artery restenosis.

Background: Cardiovascular diseases alone have become the leading cause of death worldwide. One of the treatment methods cardiovascular disease is angioplasty. This study aimed to investigate the clinical results after coronary artery angioplasty, based on the incidence of major cardiovascular events with emphasis on stent types. Methods: In this retrospective cross-sectional study, the prevalence of risk factors (age, history of previous illness and previous surgery) was assessed by using a case file for patients undergoing coronary angioplasty and stent placement during the years 2006 to 2016 and found during the follow-up. The place of the study was the Imam Ali Hospital's educational center affiliated to Kermanshah University of Medical Sciences, Iran, from July to September 2017. Results: In this study, 1188 patients undergone to stent containing 909 non-drug stents, 504 sirolimus-eluting stents and 316 paclitaxel-eluting stents. Patients were followed-up one to five years. During follow-up, 98 patients involved major cardiovascular events, 6 cases involved with death and 91 patients involved with myocardial infarction. 1729 of patients undergone angioplasty and during follow-up, 91 patients had stent restenosis. In this study stent restenosis showed the highest correlation with the incidence of major cardiovascular events. With a view to stent type in lesions with stent restenosis, 61.7% was in non-drug stent, 23.5% was in paclitaxel-eluting stent and 14.8% was in sirolimus-eluting stent. This study also showed that despite the superiority of sirolimus-stained stents, there was no difference between paclitaxel-stained stents and non-drug stents in clinical outcomes and restenosis. Conclusion: The results showed that the syringes impregnated with sirolimus have better quality. Also, stents that have a smaller diameter or need dilatation in the procedure have a worse prognosis and cause more complications in the patient.

Background & Objective: The atherosclerosis of left anterior descending (LAD) coronary artery because of subtending more than 50% of left ventricular myocardial mass, has long been the focus of concern regarding appropriate treatment. This study aimed to evaluate efficacy of Percutaneous Transluminal Coronary Angioplasty (PTCA) with stenting for treatment of proximal LAD disease. Materials & Methods: In this descriptive study, 75 patients with isolated proximal LAD atherosclerotic lesion treated with PTCA and stenting were followed up for 9 months. The stenosis of all patients was documented by coronary angiography prior to enrollment. Exercise tolerance testing (ETT) by Bruce protocol was performed before angioplasty and at the end of follow up period as well. Results: There were 44 (58.7%) males, and 31 (41.3%) females. The mean age of patients was 59.4 (range, 39 to 83 yrs). Clinical outcomes of 73 (97.3%) patients were satisfactory. Only two patients developed re-stenosis during the follow up period. The first patient developed myocardial infarction at the 3rd day of her admission, and the second one had an abnormal ETT after 9 months. Percutaneous coronary revascularization with stenting was performed, and both of them were discharged without any problem. Conclusion: This study demostrated that the nine months prognosis of patients with isolated stenosis of proximal LAD coronary artery that treated by PTCA and stenting was acceptable. This treatment improves clinical status and results in lower hospital adverse event rates and in appropriate clinical outcome.
