Background: The Frequency of allergic diseases is growing in recent years. Identification of frequency of food allergens in different areas play an important role in diagnosis and treatment of these diseases. The aim of this study was to determine frequency and association of common food allergens in patients with allergic diseases based on Skin Prick Test in Bushehr province. Material and Methods: In this descriptive cross-sectional study, 1100 patients were enrolled with allergic diseases which had a sensitivity to at least one allergen. This test was carried out with 21 common food allergens extract. Results: In all patients, association between the severity of the reaction prick allergy test and severity of allergic diseases with shrimp, cow's Milk and peanuts were (P= 0.01), (P= 0.02) and (P=0.04) respectively. In this study, the frequency of allergic rhinitis, asthma, chronic and acute urticaris and atopic eczema were 54.2%, 23%, 12.4%, 4.1% and 12%, respectively. While the the most common food allergens were peanuts (46.6%), egg yolk (43.1%) and shrimp (42%) respectively. Conclusion: This study indicated that food allergens such as shrimp, cow's Milk and peanuts have a greater role in severity of allergic diseases and this food allergens showed the highest frequency in patients.

Background: The prevalence of allergic diseases is growing in the world and Iran. Allergens play an important role in creating these diseases. Since inhalation allergens are an important part of these allergens the aim of this study was to assess the prevalence of aeroallergens and their association with allergic diseases based on skin prick test (SPT). Material and Methods: In this study, the frequency of these allergens were examined by using 22 aeroallergens and based on Skin Prick Test in 1100 patients with allergic diseases who referred to Shohadaye- Khalije- Fars university hospital. Results: The reaction severity of SPT and the severity of disease associated with inhaled allergens with Russian thistle (21.1%, P꞊0.001), Chenopodium album pollen (14%, P꞊0.001) and Dermatophagoid Pteronyssinus (9%, P꞊0.001) respectively. Also, in these patients, the frequency of inhalation allergens were House Dust Mite (HDM) (69%), feather (60.8%), Russian this tle (59.9%) pollen and Alternaria mold (59.6%) respectively. Conclusion: This study indicated that outdoors inhaled allergens such as Russian thistle and Chenopodium album pollen have the most allergenicity in patients with allergic and asthma in Bushehr province, Meanwhile, the prevalence of indoor aeroallergens such as HDM, feather and mold were high in these patients.

Identification of reactive allergens in different areas are very important in the diagnosis and treatment of these diseases. The aim of this study was to determine frequency of common allergens in patients with skin allergies in province of Bushehr with regards to eczema and urticaria. Materials and methods: In this cross-sectional study, 234 patients with urticarial and eczema were enrolled. The participants reacted to at least one allergen with SPT. Skin prick test with standard inhaled and food was performed on patients according to the herbal geography of the area. Results: Among 837 patients referred to allergy clinic, 91 patients had eczema and 143 had urticaria. The frequency of both eczema and urticaria was significantly higher in females than in males. The most common food allergens in patients with eczema were almond (56.6%), walnut (47.7%) and soybean (46.1%). And in patients with urticaria were almond (58%), walnut (53.1%) and tomato (48.2%). Also, aeroallergens in the subjects were house dust mite (HDM) (63.7%), Russian thistle (57.7%) and Alternaria alternara (51.6%). Meanwhile, the common aeroallergens in the patients were HDM (66.4%), Russian thistle (52.4%) and date palm (51%). Conclusion: Our findings indicated that almond and walnut are important food allergens in participants with eczema and urticaria. Moreover, SPT reactivity was positive with aeroallergens such as HDM and weeds.

Abstract Background & Aim: Allergic diseases are one of the most common diseases which are more prevalent in certain seasons. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of respiratory and food allergies to common allergens in patients with allergic rhinitis. Methods: This cross-sectional study was performed on 184 patients including 120 males and 64 females referred to the Shahid Mofatteh Clinic with the respiratory allergy symptoms including rhinitis, sneezing and coughing during 2012-2013. Data collection, checklist registered, including demographic information and data associated with sensitivity of skin prick test of 21 allergens were selected. Data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistical. Results: A number of 153 patients (83.2%) were allergic to one or more of the 21 allergens tested, whereas 31 patients (16.8) of them showed no sensitivity. The most common allergic reactions to insect allergens were 73 cases (47.7%), grass and turf 58 cases (37.9% percent), Beetle 55 cases (35.9%), wheat flour, 51 (33.3%) walnuts, 37 (24.4%) and cat fur 36 (5/23.5%) respectively.. Conclusion: Susceptibility to insects, beetles and grass had the highest prevalence in patients with allergic rhinitis referred to Super Specialized clinic in Yasuj. Because susceptibility to allergens depends on the environment, therefore, being aware of them can lead to avoidance and control allergic reactions. BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Aeroallergens induce exacerbation of chronic urticaria. Skin prick test is a suitable test for detection of immediate reaction. The aim of this study was to detect the incidence of positive skin prick test to aeroallergens in patients with chronic urticaria.METHODS: This cross-sectional study was done on patients with chronic urticaria during three years. After taking history and physical examination of patients, laboratory tests including: CBC-diff, ESR, stool exam, thyroid test, CH50, C3, C4, IgE, ANA, simple urinary test, AST and ALT were done. We used aeroallergens including: Timothy, Bermuda, Maple, Nettle, Feather, Aspergillus, Alternaria, Cockroach, Grass mixed, Ash, Alder, Russian Thistle, Pigweed, Dermatophagoides Farinae, Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus with negative and positive tests on the forearm. The result was evaluated.FINDINGS: From 78 cases with chronic urticaria, 23 (30%) were male and 55 (70%) were female. Their age was between 7 to 50 years old and the mean age was 30.43±11.27 years. Twelve (15%) patients had positive skin prick test to 9 allergens that 8 (10%) were male and 4 (5%) were female. Among positive skin prick tests, 9 of 25 cases were related to Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus (DP) (36%) and 9 cases were related to Dermatophagoides farinae (DF) (36%). CONCLUSION: The results showed that mites are more common in chronic urticaria.

Background: Migraine and allergic rhinitis (AR) are two common causes of headache and facial pain in which inflammatory mediators with vasoactive function play important roles. This study aimed to determine the frequency of migraine in AR patients. Methods: In a case-control study performed from June to December 2010 in patients referred to ear, nose and throat (ENT) clinic of a university hospital in Rasht, Iran, 46 AR patients with positive skin prick tests were compared with 60 subjects without AR signs and symptoms and negative skin tests. In both groups, history of migraine was assessed according to IHS (International Headache Society) criteria. Data was analyzed by chi-square and Fisher's exact tests in SPSS17. Findings: The case group included 14 male and 32 female patients with a mean age of 31.17 ± 8.31 years. In addition, 23 male and 37 female individuals with a mean age of 37.58 ± 12.63 years constituted the control group. The prevalence of migraine in the case and control groups was 37% and 5%, respectively. The differences in the prevalence of migraine and migraine without aura between cases and controls were significant (P = 0.001 for both conditions, odds ratio for migraine = 11.244, 95% CI: 2.428-53.76). In contrast to individuals over 40 years old, in subjects younger than 30 and those between 30-39 years old, the difference in the prevalence of migraine (with and without aura) was not significant. Conclusion: The prevalence of migraine, especially without aura, in allergic patients is higher than non-allergic subjects and this correlation is more significant with increasing age.

Background and purpose: Allergic rhinitis is one of the most common allergic diseases with increasing incidence worldwide. It influences the hygienic and economic situation, thereby life quality of patients. Identification and characterization of aeroallergens patterns in each region, as one of the main causes of allergic rhinitis development, is an essential step in preventing and controlling the disease. The purpose of this study was to determine the prevalence of aeroallergens in patients with allergic rhinitis in Tehran. Materials and methods: In a cross-sectional study 400 asthmatic patients attending Khorshid Allergy and Immunology Clinic in Tehran (January 2013 to 2014) were recruited. Patient information was recorded and those with allergic rhinitis have been identified. Their sensitivity to 12 common allergen extracts was determined by skin prick test. SPSS V.20 was applied for data analysis. Results: The prevalence of allergic rhinitis was 40% (n= 165) with similar ratio between males and females. All patients were susceptible to at least one allergen, and 1.3% was completely susceptible to all allergens. The most frequent positive skin reaction was due to outdoor allergens (54.20%) i.e. pollen. Indoor allergens included mites (46.66%), hair and skin of animals (18.78%), and fungi (17.37%). Indoor and outdoor aeroallergens were more prevalent in 1-6 year- old children, and 7 year and older, respectively. Conclusion: We observed a high prevalence of allergic rhinitis which was similar to the global statistics. This calls for identifying the causative factors, thereby developing measures to control and prevent severe allergic outcomes in patients. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
