The article contains a review of bell hooks' Feminist Theory: From Margin to Center (1984; Wydawnictwo Krytyki Politycznej, Warszawa 2013, second edition 2022). The text by the American scholar presents groundbreaking theses for the development of the Black feminism movement - she was one of the first to draw attention to the need to take into account various social determinants of violence against women. At the same time, it emphasizes the exclusionary and marginalizing assumptions of second-wave feminism that dominated in the mid-twentieth century. In my review, I reflect on the importance of republishing a theoretical book that examines the systemic violence faced by Black women in a patriarchal and white society. For me, it is important to ask about the relevance of hooks' reflections and the role they play in thinking about feminism in contemporary capitalist society. I also reflect on the applicability of hooks' theory in Polish feminism context. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
Children brought up in dysfunctional families constitute a category of people at risk of marginalization. Due to their physical and mental immaturity, they are protected in accordance with Polish and international law, while the state offers them foster care. In the social welfare system, it is assumed that children should be placed primarily in family forms of care, and ultimately in foster care institutions. The achievement is the fact that 77.6% of orphaned children go to family care, and only 22.4% to institutional care. In both forms, higher and higher standards of work with children are developed, thanks to which they are better prepared for independent living, and working with families contributes to the return of some of the pupils to their natural families. The article deals with the situation of the population on the Eastern Frontline during World War I. The main focus is on the living conditions of the frontline population with the enemy army and the way of life under occupation. Large focus is on the attitude and behavior of the population of Galicia and Bukovyna to the Russian military. The aspect of interaction between the local population and the occupying forces is important in the article. The author considered the specifics of looting and robberies by the occupying army of the local population. The prevailing attitudes of the population towards Russian soldiers are analyzed, and the attitude and perception of the Russian military in Galicia and Bukovyna are separately considered. The author pays special attention to the evolution of the views of the local population in relation to the enemy troops, so if initially there was mutual interest, then already the 2nd and 3rd occupations show indifference and even hostility towards the Russian soldiers. In the conclusions, the author emphasizes that the situation of the population often depended on the situation at the front. If the situation at the front was difficult, the troops robbed and looted the occupied population. The article draws attention to the fact that the military did not despise away from robberies, looting and corruption, and the life of the population was difficult under the conditions of occupation. In general, the author does not observe large-scale cooperation between the population and the occupying forces. Summing up, the author notes that the occupations of the Russian troops differed in many ways, but the goal was basically the same: joining new territories to the empire, only the methods of achieving this goal were different.

The purpose of this article is to focus on the issue of marginalization of South Asians in the United States as portrayed in two novels written by writers of Indian origin: Bharati Mukherjee’s Jasmine and Chitra Bannerjee Divakaruni’s The Mistress of Spices. It is investigated how race or skin color are the reasons for the marginalization of Indian immigrants in the United States. While Jasmine shows white Americans’ inability to embrace the racial difference of an Indian immigrant, which may be read as a reflection of the relative newness of this ethnic group in the United States and its shifting racial classification, The Mistress of Spices shows that the patterns of marginalization based on skin color may be developed already in the homeland, India, and then transferred to the US and confronted with the country’s racial diversity. Divakaruni’s novel raises a discussion of how the appreciation of whiteness developed in the country of birth leads to the hierarchical relations between the members of the Indian diaspora, and how it affects their relations with other American minorities. In this way, it shows that marginalization based on skin color is not only the outcome of inter-ethnic encounters but it can be an internal problem of this ethnic group as well.

- Abstract
This article contains portions of a report on research conducted in 2015 by the individual in-depth interview method with inhabitants of Ochota and local activists. The authors decided to look at the specifics of metropolitan culture in Poland—at changes occurring in the infrastructure of cultural life, cultural practices, and forms of participation in culture. The first part of the article is devoted to the history of the district and the characteristics of its inhabitants. In analyzing the answers, the researchers noticed the phenomenon of Old Ochota—a district with a long, rich history, in which many signs of local patriotism could be observed. They discovered that the local cultural offerings were rich and they raised the question of whether culture could be an instrument countering social exclusion. They decided that participation in culture only minimally serves such an aim. The offerings satisfy the needs of elderly people, who constitute a large part of Ochota’s population, but they do not reach children and young people in general. The interviewees also perceive that there are various marginalized social groups that should be encompassed by new forms of activeness and grassroots social self-organization. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
This article discusses the evolution of the concept of borderland within social and cultural anthropology, highlighting the shift from classical studies of nation-states' frontiers and ethnic groups' interactions towards a postmodern understanding of borderlands as "ubiquitous" realms. In so doing, it reflects on the meaningfulness of the concept and interrogates its validity as an analytical tool. The author links the discussion of different theoretical approaches with her own research experience in the Polish "borderlands", arguing both about some Poland-specific dilemmas inscribed into the borderland studies, as well as some wider issues, important for anthropology and humanities at large. teologia pastoralna Od początku swego istnienia Kościół podejmował opiekę nad ludźmi niepełnosprawnymi. Jednym z jej elementów jest troska o to, by angażowali się podmiotowo w życie jego własnej wspólnoty. W artykule zostały ukazane dążenia współczesnego Kościoła do aktywnego angażowania osób niepełnosprawnych. Since the beginning, the Church has been taking care of disabled people. One of the examples is the care concerning the engagement of the disabled into the life of their community. The article presents the efforts of the contemporary Church for the active engagement of the disabled. The first part contains the description of the efforts which aim at engaging the disabled into the life of their parishes. The second part consists of the image of the extraordinary pastoral care and of the care for engaging the disabled into the life of the Church at the diocesan level as well as at higher levels. The third part presents the communities with disabled people which function similarly to the domestic Church. The ending presents indications for the further cooperation with disabled people, which aims at their active engagement in the community of the Church.

Demonstrating the social situation of the people with disabilities requires determining their position in relation to the rest of society, which makes it necessary to compare the relationships of people with disabilities and people without them. Adopting this perspective makes it possible to reflect and capture the structure of social networks of the people with disabilities. This helps to show the factors hindering the integration of this category with society and to show the dynamics which they are subjected to. The analysis of this phenomenon enables the use of network theory, which serves as a tool of re-creating and multi-dimensional analysis of the dynamic network of social relations, essential in demonstrating the degree of marginalization of people with disabilities. The main aim of the article is to describe the characteristics of social networks of the people with disabilities, which will help to re-create the processes happening within them as well as identify the factors that reinforce the marginalization of this category and hinder its full integration with society. For this purpose, the analysis of existing data from the Social Diagnosis 2011 and 2015 has been applied, which enabled to examine the structure of social networks of people with disabilities.

An aim of the paper is analysis of the chosen theoretical aspects (etiology and mechanisms) of marginalization and social exclusion in the interdisciplinary perspective. The multidimensional and complex nature of marginalization and social exclusion create the need for study many scientific views and positions proposed by the social science representatives. The perspective assumed in the paper is the closest to the paradigm of social pedagogy and pedagogy of social change. In the paper there are analyzed theoretical perspectives presented by the representatives of social sciences: sociologists, pedagogues, representatives of the social policy, related to the issues of etiology and mechanisms of social marginalization and exclusion. The attention is especially focused at the issues of poverty as well as social and educational inequalities. There are discussed conceptions of H. Silver and R. Levitas explaining social exclusion, and in the next part of the article there are presented planes in the context of which social exclusion is analysed – the cultural, structural and conflict one. There are also indicated the relations between globalization and marginalization and social exclusion. There are indicated diagnostic criteria of marginalization process connected with the following categories of factors: economic, participation, ethical, adaptative, innovative and resulting. The theoretical perspective of inequality is taken from H. Domański’s work, who indicates the inequality toward law, inequality of the chances and the marxist perspective. Educational inequality is presented in the light of externalistic and internalistic conceptions. There are also indicated the differences in linguistic competencies of individuals, that also can be treated as a risk factor of marginalization.

In article author studies the transformation of culture distribution. The main field of analysis is the influence of mass media communication to the changes in the sense of locality (as the foundation of building the sense of identity). The development of new communication technologies, universal access to tools, information distribution, disturbs the traditional centre-periphery relations, and set new challenges for the dissemination of culture. The article includes an attempt to identify what the provincialism and peripheral means today as perspectives to identify commitment in creation and dissemination of culture. The most important challenge for cultural activities is to balance the purpose of its activities, taking into account both local and global values.

My article's is aimed of analyzing the social construction of identity, using the category of difference, and taking into account the example Muslim Minority in Sweden. I try to understand the variety of social culture paradoxes in which the difference may be the starting point of emancipation or marginalization. I will focus in my text on the socio-cultural aspects of the Muslim minority functioning in Sweden and radical mutual non-translatability of basic assumptions of Muslim and Scandinavian culture. Radical Islamic politics of essentialism and full of contradictions Swedish integration policy brings in its overall consequences both political and religious emancipation of immigrants as well as their socio-cultural marginalization.

W artykule zaprezentowano wyniki badan przeprowadzonych Kwestionariuszem badan społecznych - KBS, który został stworzony na potrzeby projektu o charakterze naukowo-badawczym pt.: Ogólnopolskie badanie sytuacji potrzeb i możliwości osób niepełnosprawnych. Wykorzystano rezultaty drugiego etapu badan zrealizowanego w 2009 roku. This paper presents the results of a study carried out with the use of the Social Research Questionnaire, a tool created for the needs of the scientific study project Ogólnopolskie badanie sytuacji potrzeb i mo'liwosci osób niepełnosprawnych (Nation-wide Study of the Situation, Needs and Prospects of People with Disabilities); for the purposes of our research, results of the second stage of that study, completed in 2009, were used. The results obtained confirm the hypothesis that individuals with mental disorders are a group most likely to be marginalized, as well as face social exclusion. The problem of marginalization involves numerous aspects of their lives: they feel more alienated than people with other types of disability, they undertake professional activity less often, finish education at a lower level as well as assessing their own satisfaction with life and general health as significantly worse. The phenomena of marginalization and social exclusion manifest themselves in this group at two levels. The first is linked to the fact of being a person with a disability, while the other level involves the fact that it was a mental disorder that was diagnosed as the fundamental source of disability, and is closely linked to self-marginalization. Artykuł przygotowany w ramach systemowego projektu badawczego finansowanego ze srodków Unii Europejskiej - nr WND-POKL-01.03.06-00-041/08 pt.: Ogólnopolskie badanie sytuacji, potrzeb i mo'liwosci osób niepełnosprawnych na lata 2008-2010.
