- Abstract
The potential of ‘nano’ products based on graphene and its derivatives is enormous and will contribute to the development and commercial introduction of innovative solutions for use in animal breeding and veterinary care, aimed at ensuring animal welfare. Due to the everyday use of biocidal agents for the hygiene of breeding facilities and animals, the crucial strategic applications of graphene and its derivatives should include antimicrobial activity and adsorption. Graphene and its derivatives may in the future become an alternative to antimicrobial and biocidal agents. Furthermore, they may bind residues of agents used in animal breeding from the breeding environment, limiting their harmful impact on the natural environment. The potential clinical use of graphene and its derivatives for wound healing in veterinary and human medicine remains a significant challenge. The safety of their use is a new area of toxicological research and requires the adoption of an appropriate strategy to estimate the risk to human and animal health. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

REFLECTION (Philosophy) ,IMAGE of God ,WOUND healing ,LIFE expectancy ,CLIMATE change - Abstract
This article aims to answer the question of what place the climate issue has in Anastasius Sinaita's theological reflection. It consists of two parts: the first presents the image of God emerging from the Sinaita's analyses, while the second focuses on man's responsibility, whose decisions are conditioned by many factors, including climate. The main conclusions include: 1. In his work Quaestiones et responsiones, Anastasius refers to climate-related issues more than twenty times. He mentions climate change, the characteristics of climates, the different types of climates and their effects on humans. 2. Life expectancy, diseases, and epidemics in the vast majority of cases are, in the view of Anastasius the Sinaite, related to climate and diet and not to morality or adherence to the correct religion. 3. Sinaitic theological reflection can be developed in at least three directions. First, it allows linking ecological issues to construct a correct image of God. Second, it sensitizes the connection between environmental devastation and human suffering, an essential area of mercy theology understood as "healing wounds". Third, it builds a broad context for the inculturation of the Church's teaching, as it points out the role of various climatic factors on human attitudes and behaviour. Anastasius' thought also seems to provide serious arguments for modern evolutionary theology. This is because it makes it possible to locate its crucial claim about the autonomy of the laws of nature in the ancient tradition. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Collagen, a key structural protein, is essential for maintaining the integrity of connective tissues such as skin, cartilage, tendons, bones. As natural collagen production decreases with age and is further compromised by environmental factors such as UV radiation and poor diet, collagen degradation accelerates, leading to conditions like wrinkles, joint stiffness, and decreased bone density. Collagen supplementation has gained widespread attention as a therapeutic intervention to counteract these effects. This review conducts a comprehensive comparative analysis of various forms of collagen supplementation, including hydrolyzed collagen, undenatured collagen, and gelatin, and their effects on a range of health outcomes. Hydrolyzed collagen, due to enhanced bioavailability, is associated with improvements in skin elasticity, hydration, joint pain relief, and muscle recovery, making it particularly valuable for aging populations and athletes. Undenatured type II collagen, on the other hand, modulates immune responses and shows potential in reducing inflammation and slowing the progression of degenerative joint diseases such as osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Gelatin, while less bioavailable than hydrolyzed collagen, still supports skin and joint health when taken in larger quantities. This review also explores emerging evidence of collagen’s beneficial effects on bone density, wound healing, and hair health, with marine-derived collagen showing promise in skin health due to its rapid absorption. Potential adverse effects, including mild gastrointestinal discomfort and rare allergic reactions, are discussed, emphasizing the importance of sourcing high-quality products. Overall, collagen supplementation, particularly hydrolyzed collagen peptides, offers significant therapeutic potential for improving skin, joint, and musculoskeletal health, but further research is required to define optimal dosages, formulations, and long-term safety for various populations.

Glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) are a group of heteropolysaccharides, which include: chondroitin sulfates, dermatan sulfates, heparan sulfates, heparin, keratan sulfates, and hyaluronic acid. GAGs are composed of negatively charged polysaccharide chains composed of repeating disaccharide units, which include N-acetylated hexosamine residues – D-glucosamine or D-galactosamine – or N-sulfated D-glucosamine and hexuronic acid residues – D-glucuronic or L-iduronic acid – or galactose. All GAGs, except for hyaluronic acid, have a sulfate group and form proteoglycans (PGs) when attached to the core proteins. GAGs have many important biological functions influencing PGs functions. PGs are present in all types of tissues and participate in cell migration, proliferation, and differentiation. They occur mainly in the extracellular matrix (ECM), where they participate in ECM organization, structure formation and mechanical properties. They play an important role in maintaining homeostasis and also influence metabolic processes, such as bone mineralization and blood coagulation. PGs (due to the strongly negative charge of the glycan chains) are involved in the selective permeability of cell membranes. Components of the ECM, including GAGs, play a structural and functional role during the healing of tissue damage. They regulate the healing process by acting as a reservoir and modulator for cytokines and growth factors and perform structural functions by filling tissue defects during the repair process.

In recent years, the topic of effective wound treatment has become growing in importance due to the increasing rate for their diagnosis, but also because of the raising awareness of wound healing issues. One of the essential parts of the treatment is the use of appropriate wound dressings that actively support the natural healing process. This draws attention to the potential of hydrogel wound dressings, which, as non-adhesive, soft and flexible polymeric products with a high water content, can act as a safe contact layer, reduce pain levels, maintain an appropriate level of moisture and promote autolytic debridement. Hydrogel wound dressings are available in two physical forms, i.e. semi-solid (amorphous hydrogel) and solid (hydrogel sheet). A review of scientific literature shows that they are materials with many benefits in the treatment of dry or weakly exuding and necrotic wounds. However, their use in the management of infected and high exudate wounds is limited. There is therefore a need for their further development to help improve chemical, physical and biological properties, thereby expanding their functionality. Current studies focused on two main strategies, i.e. 1) enhancing therapeutic efficacy by incorporating into the system an active substance with anti-inflammatory and antibacterial activity, or 2) implementing various sensors, that detect, or respond to, environmental stimuli. In order to obtain a product of adequate quality and durability of use, an important part of the research is a detailed evaluation of the properties of the designed materials. Adequate elasticity, mechanical strength, swelling and absorption capacity, as well as internal structure are all factors that need to be examined to assess the functionality of the designed materials as wound dressings. The present review is aimed at systematizing the knowledge of hydrogel wound dressings and identifying future research directions. The work includes a description of their properties, available forms, composition and testing methods.

Introduction and purpose Blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure aimed at restoring the functionality and/or aesthetics of the eyelids. The aim of the study is to draw attention to the factors influencing the recovery period at successive stages of therapeutic procedures. A brief description of the state of knowledge: Preoperative consultation is important in selecting patients, planning surgical procedures, identifying potential complications and meeting patients' expectations. In patients with hypertension, diabetes, smoking, and anticoagulant treatment, a worse scar assessment, longer recovery period and more complications have been observed. Patients who have undergone refractive surgery within the last 6 months are not suitable candidates for blepharoplasty. Nutrition status has a significant impact on wound healing and tissue repair after aesthetic medicine procedures. The use of continuous sutures compared to tissue glue results in similar wound healing time and postoperative discomfort level. Postoperative wound care is essential for the healing process. Electrostimulation of the wound does not accelerate edema reduction. We have focused on many complications, such as swelling, bleeding, infections, eyelid malposition, dry eye syndrome, wound dehiscence, ways to cope with these problems, and the role of lasers. Summary (conclusions): Important is the proper preparation of the patient for the procedure. A detailed interview and examination influence therapeutic decisions, allowing the doctor to choose the most optimal treatment methods that will shorten the recovery time. Blepharoplasty is one of the most commonly performed aesthetic procedures, so we propose the development of publicly accessible standards that should be included in the initial interview.

Lipopolysaccharide (LPS) is found in most Gram-negative bacteria and induces innate responses by binding to toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4). LPS isolated from Pantoea agglomerans species is an interesting issue. On the one hand, it is a risk factor for diseases such as wounds, abscess, bacteremia, pneumonia, urinary tract infections, septic arthritis, osteomyelitis and peritonitis. On the other, its health-promoting properties in atherosclerosis, Alzheimer’s disease, and osteoporosis are increasingly observed. Studies in humans and animal models show that LPS from P. agglomerans may have beneficial effects in the treatment of certain diseases. A huge challenge today is the prevention and treatment of skin diseases, including atopic dermatitis (AD), allergic contact dermatitis (ACD), and hard-to-heal wounds. Reports show that LPS from P. agglomerans may be useful in the treatment of skin diseases through its effects on the immune response. Studies show that LPS acts on Langerhans cells and leads to suppression of the allergic response.

Introduction: Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is an autologous material. It is created by drawing the patient's blood and preparing it properly. In that, a several-fold increase in platelets and growth factors is achieved. By applying the PRP prepared this way to the appropriate tissue, it is possible to improve the clinical condition of many disorders. Purpose: Analysis of the effects of platelet-rich plasma injection on the human body depending on the site of administration. Review of literature. Material and methods: We have selected, in our opinion, the most important information from articles about the use of PRP in: androgenetic alopecia, hair regrowth, wound healing, atrophic acne scars, erectile dysfunction, gynecology and improving women's sexual satisfaction, osteoarthritis and skin rejuvenation. Summary (conclusion): Thanks to its properties, platelet-rich plasma (PRP) can stimulate the human body to regenerate. Androgenetic alopecia, hair regrowth, acceleration of wound healing, acne scars, erectile dysfunction and osteoarthritis are just some of the disorders in which the use of platelet-rich plasma proves to be promising. From the studies above it can be concluded that the effects of local PRP injections can be complementary to the therapy of many other diseases. However, more adequate research is needed to register the application of local platelet-rich plasma as a form of treatment for these diseases.

WOUND healing , *ISCHEMIA , *SKIN care , *TISSUE wounds , *PRESSURE ulcers - Abstract
According to the NPIAP definition, a pressure ulcer is "local damage to the skin and/or subcutaneous tissue as a result of pressure or pressure combined with shear forces". Pressure ulcers are skin sores of various etiologies, including those resulting from pressure, ischemia, and shear forces. In addition to typical pressure ulcers involving tissue loss, pressure ulcers also include deep tissue damage and terminal wounds. While pressure ulcers 1–4 are assessed only on the basis of visible lesions, differentiating between deep tissue injuries and SCALE wounds requires practical skills and substantive knowledge. The development of pressure ulcers depends on external determinants independent of the patient's condition, and their progression is also strongly related to numerous aspects of the patient's condition, fitness and health. The selection of appropriate holistic care depends on the etiology, whereas local treatment is determined by the condition of the wound. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Diabetes mellitus and its complications are one of the most important causes of death. As a consequence of hyperglycemia in patients with diabetes there is an increased risk of concomitant diseases, and one of the important consequences of diabetes is impaired ability to repair. Healing disorders in diabetes are the result of complex pathophysiology involving vascular, neuropathic, immune and biochemical componentsAim of research: was to analyze changes in inflammation markers, microbial contamination and nonspecific immunity in skin homogenate of rats with diabetes after using sutures and skin glue.Material and research methods. Experimental studies were performed on 130 white outbred adult male rats, weight from 240 to 320 g. Diabetes mellitus was induced by using streptozotocin (Sigma, USA) (intraperitoneally - 65 mg / kg) with previous (15 minutes) injection of nicotinamide (intraperitoneally - 230 mg / kg). On the background of obesity, which was caused by 4 weeks of keeping animals on a high-fat diet. The development of diabetes mellitus 2 was confirmed by determining the concentration of glucose in the blood using a glucometer BAYER Contour Next (Germany). Animals of all groups (I-IV) under thiopental anesthesia (40 mg / kg body weight of rats) were made full-layer rectilinear incisions, 2 cm long, in the anterior-lateral region of the abdomen. All animals were divided into 4 experimental groups: І group (30 rats) – healthy rats, wound edges were sutured with Vicryl 5/0 thread (ETHICON, Inc. and Johnson & Johnson company (USA); ІI group (30 rats) – healthy rats, fixing of the wound edges was performed by applying skin glue Dermabond (ETHICON, Inc. and Johnson & Johnson company (USA)); ІII group (30 rats) – rats with diabetes mellitus, wound edges were sutured with Vicryl 5/0 thread; IV group (30 rats) – Rats with diabetes mellitus, fixing of the wound edges was performed by applying skin glue Dermabond. For control, all the results were compared with those of intact animals (10 rats). Animals were removed from the experiment on 3, 7, 28 days after surgery under thiopental anesthesia (90 mg / kg body weight of rats). The degree of contamination of the wound with opportunistic and pathogenic microflora determined by the level of urease activity using Nessler's reagent. Lysozyme activity was determined by bacteriolytic method, using as a substrate a suspension of bacteria Micrococcus lysodeicticus.Results. The obtained results prove that the wound process under conditions of streptozotocin diabetes mellitus in rats leads to a significantly greater contamination of the wound with pathogenic and opportunistic microflora and a decrease in nonspecific immunity, compared with healthy animals. Also, different effects of suture materials on the indicators of microbial contamination and immune protection were found: significantly larger deviations from the norm were found in groups of rats, where we used surgical sutures to fix the wound edges. When comparing the intensity of microbial contamination and nonspecific immunity in the long term (28 days) in the homogenate of the skin of rats with diabetes mellitus and the use of skin glue, the level of urease was 27.3% lower and the level of lysozyme 7.0% lower than in III group where we used surgical sutures.Changes in the activity of the antimicrobial enzyme lysozyme allow to assess the state of nonspecific immunity in the studied tissues. Many authors note a decrease in lysozyme activity in various bioliquids and tissues in diabetes mellitus. The results of our studies prove a significant decrease in the activity of lysozyme in the homogenate of postoperative skin wounds of rats with diabetes.Conclusion. Wound process in rats with experimental diabetes mellitus leads to reliable contamination of the wound with pathogenic and opportunistic microflora, as evidenced by increased urease activity, and reduced nonspecific immunity, characterized by reduced lysozyme activity in the homogenate of postoperative wound/scar tissue in relation to intact animals during all the terms of observation. In the remote period (28 days) in the skin homogenate of rats with diabetes where skin glue was used for wound closure, the level of urease was 27.3% lower and the level of lysozyme was 7.0% lower than that of rats with diabetes, where surgical sutures were used.

Periodontal diseases is one of the most relevant and important problem in modern dentistry due to their increasing prevalence in population, association with the occurrence of focus of chronic infection, progressive development and irreversibility which, in case of severe damage of periodontal tissues, eventually leads to a loss of the number of teeth. All of the named factors eventually lead to the development of irreversible inflammatory-dystrophic and destructive changes in periodontal tissues. During the recent years the method of guided tissue regeneration that uses membranes is being successfully used for the treatment of periodontal diseases.A comparative study on the mandibular alveolar mucosa lesion healing during application of different types of biological matrixes containing decellularized amniotic membrane, decellularized amniotic membrane in combination with platelet-rich plasma (PRP) growth factors, and decellularized amniotic membrane in combination with PRP growth factors and hyaluronic acid was performed. The study proved the acceleration of the processes of wound area reduction. Under experimental conditions, the wound healing lasted from day 3 to day 5 of the study; however, the rate of reduction of the wound area was slower, which indicates an alterative stage of the acute inflammatory process. During days 5 – 7 (stage of regeneration, the 2nd phase of wound process) the wound area reduced rapidly and by day14 a complete epithelization of the surgical wound was observed in all groups using decellularized amniotic membrane. In the group using the combination of PRP growth factors and hyaluronic acid the epithelization of wound was already observed on the day5. In the control group healing occurres with scar formation.

Pentraxin 3 (PTX3) is a member of the long pentraxin family. It is an acute-phase protein produced and released in regions of injury. It belongs to humoral innate immune response. It acts as an indicator and regulator of inflammation, in response to the activity of i.a. proinflammatory cytokines (TNF-α, IL-1β), toll-like receptor (TLR) agonists and lipopolysaccharides. It is synthesised in different types of cells, such as: monocytes, macrophages, dendritic cells, endothelial cells, smooth muscle cells, fibroblasts or adipocytes. PTX3 is also produced during neutrophil differentiation and stored in specific granules of mature neutrophils, ready to be released upon microbial recognition. This multimeric glycoprotein is composed of 381 amino acid residues. It contains the N-terminal domain (18-178 amino acid residues) and the C-terminal domain (179-381 amino acid residues), including the 17-amino-acid signal peptide. Its modular structure enables its various bioactivity. PTX3 removes apoptotic cells during the immune response. PTX3 interacts with components of the hemostatic system and the fibrinolytic cascade, under acidic conditions that occur in damaged tissues. As a result of the interaction with plasminogen and fibrin in the wound, pentraxin 3 promotes the process of fibrinolysis and plays a role in the tissue repair process. Together with chemokines, PTX3 organises the leukocyte recruitment in the region of injury, contributing to the formation of the inflammatory microenvironment and the suppression of the inflammatory response. In many animal models, it has been shown that PTX3 plays a complex, non-redundant role in pathogen resistance, inflammation control and tissue repair, acting as an onco-suppressor gene as well. The diverse bioactivity of PTX3 is probably a result of its capability to interact with a wide spectrum of ligands, including complement components, adhesion molecules, growth factors and extracellular matrix components. The involvement of PTX3 in many biological processes determines it as a potentially important biomarker of many diseases. These studies will prove that pentraxin 3 is involved in tissue regeneration. The involvement of PTX3 in tissue injury / tissue remodelling will highlight the relationship and interaction between homeostasis and resistance. This information helps us to understand why PTX3 may become a potential diagnostic marker of the severity of illness related to tissue remodeling, as well as it provides sufficient evidence for using this protein as a therapeutic tool. A better understanding of the complex mechanisms, in which pentraxin 3 is involved, should be sought. ..

Introduction and purpose: Wound healing is a process including complex overlapping stages requiring many components. Adipose tissue is an organ that is responsible for maintaining homeostasis through inflammatory responses, signal transmission, energy expenditure connected with different organs. Fat tissue is a rich and readily available source of multipotent stem cells. Adipose-derived stem cells (ADSCs) have the potential in tissue regeneration because of their self-renewal and ability to differentiate in various types of cells. This review discusses ADSCs in terms of basic knowledge, methods of acquisition, prospects for use in healthcare, focusing mainly on the potential application in the wound healing process. Brief description of the state of knowledge: The article contains current knowledge about biology, specific properties of adipose-derived stem cells and also shows the relationship to the wound healing process. The review presents research that points to the possibility of using ADSCs in future medicine. Conclusions: Adipose-derived stem cells may constitute a prominent role in tissue regeneration owing to the secretion of various cytokines, the ability to differentiate into multiple lineages, their immunomodulatory effects, and the ease of cell obtaining. Further studies are required to explore the accurate mechanism of ADSCs action and their long-term safety in clinical application. Stem cell therapy brings new hope for the repair of chronic and refractory wounds and skin defects.

OXIMETRY , *HYPERBARIC oxygenation , *FINGER surgery , *PLASTIC surgery , *WOUND healing , *HAND injuries - Abstract
Introduction Partial or complete finger amputations represent the most common acute hand injuries. The ability to save a damaged part of an extremity depends on various factors. Once the primary surgery saves a finger, the planning of secondary reconstructive operations begins. Surgeries following total or subtotal amputations are particularly difficult due to the formation of a circumferential scar which increases the risk of a secondary circulatory impairment after corrective surgeries. Aim The aim of the study was to evaluate the application of transcutaneous oximetry (TcpO2), and to determine the possibility of improving postoperative oxygenation of finger tissues after secondary reconstructive procedures. Material and methods 42 patients were operated on in the Malopolska Center for Burns and Plastic Surgery in the years 2019-2021 due to post-traumatic dysfunction of the hand, following a total or subtotal finger amputation in the 2nd Verdan flexor zone. Patients after reconstructive surgery were qualified for the hyperbaric oxygen therapy sessions. The level of oxygenation of the tissues of the operated finger was measured using transcutaneous oximetry by means of the TCM4 Radiometer device. The measurements were obtained before and after the surgery. Statistical analysis of the results was performed. Results The possibility of assessing the oxygenation of finger tissues in the pre- and postoperative period with the use of transcutaneous oximetry in both normal and hyperbaric conditions has been demonstrated. The study demonstrated that, in the postoperative wound healing phase, an improvement was observed in the soft tissues oxygenation in the operated fingers during session in the hyperbaric chamber, which was expressed as a significant increase in TcpO2. Conclusions The increase in finger tissue oxygenation during sessions in the hyperbaric chamber and the clinically confirmed role of oxygen in the regenerative processes, as shown in the study, leads to the conclusion that the presented treatment regimen can optimize tissue healing processes. CHRONIC wounds & injuries , *PRESSURE ulcers , *WORK experience (Employment) , *WOUND healing , *WIND pressure , *WOUND nursing - Abstract
Aim of the study: To determine the level of knowledge on chronic wounds and methods of their treatment among nursing staff as well as the factors determining the level of this knowledge. Material and methods: In the period from November 2020 to January 2021, 145 nurses were surveyed. The diagnostic survey was applied using the questionnaire technique. The author's single-choice questionnaire was used as the research tool. Results: A group of 78 survey participants (53,79%) had insufficient knowledge, 59 respondents (40,69%) had sufficient knowledge, 4 respondents (2,76%) had good knowledge, and 4 respondents (2,76%) had very good knowledge. Only 30 respondents (20,69%) knew the classification used to assess a pressure ulcer wound. The correct sequence of the phases of chronic wound healing was indicated by 55 people (37,93%). Work experience in the profession of over 5 years results in a higher level of knowledge (p = 0.032). The level of knowledge among people who completed a specialist wound treatment course is significantly higher than in the others (p = 0.003). Conclusions: The knowledge among more than half of the nursing staff about chronic wounds and methods of their treatment was insufficient. Work experience in the nursing/nurse profession and completion of a specialist course in wound treatment had a significant positive impact on the level of knowledge in the study group. Even though graduates at the master's level have a subject on wounds and methods of their treatment in the program, the knowledge deficit was as high as in those with lower education. Resveratrol (3,5,4-trihydroxystilbene) is a natural polyphenolic compound with a wide spectrum of biological activities, which could possibly be useful in the prevention or treatment of cardiovascular, neurodegenerative diseases, cancer, as well as premature skin aging. The extraction and synthesis methods have been developed rapidly for resveratrol. It is isolated mainly from Polygonum cuspidatum due to its high concentration in this herb. However, rapid development of biotechnology led to a new way of resveratrol synthesis directly in recombinant yeast, but also in bacteria, such as Escherichia coli. Currently, resveratrol is used as a dietary supplement in form of tablets, capsules or sublingual drops. Nonetheless, resveratrol application is still being a major challenge due to its poor solubility in water as well as low and erratic bioavailability. However, the latest studies showed the possibility of extending the therapeutic range of resveratrol utility, including its potential as a wound care agent. The systems designed for application to the skin are particularly promising, although the formulations proposal for oral administration are also interesting. Despite its potential as a compound administered topically, nowadays resveratrol is available only as an anti-aging ingredient in skin care products. As a substance with the pleiotropic mode of action, it has become the object of interest of many research groups as well as the pharmaceutical industry. Most studies have tended to focus on pharmacological activity of raw resveratrol and its poor bioavailabilty, thus the number of research concerning the development of a drug delivery system for resveratrol is very limited. The present review summarizes the most recent literature which demonstrates the currently used technologies allowing to overcome poor bioavailability of resveratrol, with particular emphasis put on its topical and oral administration. The article shows the current state of knowledge on delivery systems with resveratrol such as liposomes, nanoemulsions, lipid nanoparticles and nanocrystals. It presents also an overview of recent developments in the use of resveratrol in the prevention and treatment of different skin diseases.

Cancer wounds belong to the atypical wound group. Cancer cells can develop in non-cancer wounds that do not heal for a long time, and their symptoms are so uncharacteristic that they rarely attract the attention of specialists treating non-healing wounds. As with their etiology, local treatment after the completion of oncological treatment is atypical. Management choice depends on the condition of the wound, but the interventions undertaken must bring benefit to the patient, improving their quality of life. Although the TIMERS system wet therapy and the features of an ideal dressing also apply to the treatment of cancer wounds, the actions may be completely different. Great care in wound debridement, atraumatic dressings, and maximum isolation of exudate are priorities in the treatment of cancer wounds. There is one overriding rule - do not use any preparations or dressings that support proliferation and wound healing, because then the neoplasm benefits instead of healing tissue. Wound management may be non-standard, but must be accepted by the patient. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Hypertrophic scars and keloids are forms of abnormal scarring, which may be the cause of somatic ailmants and, due to unfavorable aesthetic effect, also mental disorders and social problems. Given the unclear aetiology and the lack of effective treatment methods, they pose a serious challenge for modern science. The contribution of genetic factors is one of the proposed hypotheses regarding the formation of hypertrophic scars and keloids. Gene polymorphism and mutations occurring in them may interfere with the proper course of signaling pathways responsible for the subsequent stages of the wound healing process. An important role in the pathogenesis of abnormal scarring may be the TGF-B1/Smad pathway, MAPK kinase, pathway for IGF-I and its receptor, plasminogen activator inhibitor-1 and urokinase plasminogen activator, gene polymorphisms for the vitamin D receptor and the ADAM33 gene, as well as abnormal expression of suppressor genes. The effect on heat shock protein expression and type 2 hyaluronidase synthase was also shown. The explanation of the genetic basis of hypertrophic scar and keloid formation may lead to a full understanding of their pathogenesis and also have important implications in the form of therapeutic benefits resulting in the development of effective forms of treatment.
