The paper examines, summarily, the sociological debate about concept of secularization and compares it to the concept of laicity. It analyses the limits of Brazilian laicity and focuses on the relationship between religion and politics in Brazil. It shows that the competition between Catholics and Pentecostals extrapolated the religious field and migrated to the spheres midiatic and politics. And highlights the occurrence of intenses clashes in Brazilian public sphere between Christian and laics groups about the place and role of religion, laicity of State, human rights, social, sexual and reproductive rights of minorities. This article proposes to take up the roots of Marxist Theory of Dependence as a part of Marxist thought dedicated to explaining the process of capitalist development in dependent economies, especially in Latin America. Using the dialectical method and the economic categories developed in Capital, Rui Mauro Marini, along with other authors, found a theoretical framework that explains the reality of peripheral economies, without falling into a simplistic revisionism. In order to deepen the reflection, this paper presents the main concepts of the Marxist Theory of Dependence as particularities of the reproduction of capital in Latin America. Later we will use these interpretative foundations to clarify the current austerity in Brazil, examining the set of counter-reforms in progress and to be implemented: New Fiscal Regime, Labor Reform and the “New Social Security” in order to legitimize the contemporaneousness of TMD and its powerful vector interpretive and transformative in times of structural crisis of capital. The first part of this paper presents the legal status of 27 European Economic Community and 20 Latin-American countries with respect to the relations established between the State and religions. There are three most salient models: countries with a regime of separation between State and church; countries adopting the separation between religion and State including particular provisions for certain religions or churches; and finally, countries adopting the State Church regime. Such a heterogeneity of approaches points to the existence of different forms of being secular, which are always shaped by the history and culture of each country. This is also the case of Brazil, which is the object of the second part of the analysis. The paper concludes with the perceptions held by individuals from the city of Porto Alegre (Brazil) with different religious belongings about one of the pillars of secularism, that is, religious freedom. This paper deals with the relation between lethal violence and inequality under two approaches. The first one is the inequality in the risk of becoming a victim of homicide among various kinds of people. In this sense, the profile of victims of lethal violence in Brazil is very clear: young black males. The second approach concerns the relation between income inequality and homicide rates. This relation depends on the unit of analysis. Data analysed here, using a multivariate model to estimate factors associated to municipal homicide rates, reveal that it is the average income of the poorest sections of the population rather than income inequality that is directly related to lethal violence. These results contradict those obtained in the literature when countries are compared to each other, which underlines the importance of the choice of unit of analysis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The translation process is characterized for being an activity located between borders, making Brazilian literature inherently both transnational and transcultural. Nonetheless, despite the fact that Portuguese is the sixth most spoken language around the globe, it is not listed as one of the languages most translated into English. In addition to that, approximately 60% of what is published in Brazil are translations, being most of them (around 75%) translated from English. Therefore, translators are indispensable in their role of spokesperson, connecting Brazil to the world publishing market. There has been an observable increase in the international interest for Brazilian literature, which can be noticed through the culmination of recent events: the launching, by Brazilian government, of the Support Program for Translation and Publication of Brazilian Authors Abroad; Support Program for the Internationalization of book and Brazilian literature; the insertion of Brazil in literary cultural agendas around the world; and the publishing of the English version of Granta literary magazine in 2012 entitled The best of young Brazilian novelists. Such actions, which invest in both translation and publication of Brazilian works in the United States, in the United Kingdom, as well as in other countries, come to meet this meager participation of Brazil in the global literary market, emerging as a response to this shortage. Based on the reading and analysis of theoretical background (HALL, 1995, 1997; MELLO, 2012; MELLO and VOLLET, 2000, etc.), and of Granta literary magazine, this paper aims at reflecting and discussing about the current situation of Brazilian literature, regarding translations and publications of Brazilian works through grants of the Support Program for Translation and Publication of Brazilian Authors Abroad, considering the role played by translation in the relocation of Brazilian literature in the global context as well as the role played by Granta as an authoritative tool in this dynamics. The paper presents the restorative justice system adopted by the Belgian law, and demonstrates the ways in which restorative mechanisms interact with the criminal justice system. Describes the initial difficulties faced in the early 1990s, during the first experiences with conflicts mediation in Belgium, as well as how they were overcome.
