This paper aims to confirm the hypothesis of synergistic effect of alignment of business environment scanning strategy with IT strategy on market performance in large and medium-sized enterprises in Poland. A model of alignment of the strategies of business environment scanning and IT in the enterprises was used to verify the following hypothesis: “Alignment between business environment scanning strategy and IT strategy affects market performance in the enterprise more significantly compared to these strategies considered individually”. The paper is divided into two parts. Firstly, it briefly reviews the literature regarding alignment, business environment scanning and IT. Secondly, a conceptual model of strategic alignment of business environment scanning strategy with IT strategy is presented and verified.

The aim of this paper, based on a functionalist epistemological perspective, was to investigate the relationship between personal values and cross-cultural adaptation of expatriates. Although many researchers seek to relate individual charac- teristics of expatriates with cross-cultural adaptation, there is a lack of researches that have done so using the construct of human values, what characterizes the originality of this research. To this end, we carried out a study with Brazilian expatriates, employees of a subsidiary of a national company, located in a country in the Middle East. The approaches of Schwartz (1992) and Black, Mendenhall and Oddou (1991) were used as theoretical perspectives to the study of personal values and cross-cultural adaptation of expatriates, respectively. The final valid sample consisted of 221 expatriates who responded to the scales of cross-cul- tural adaptation of Black (1988) and personal values - PVQ-21 (ESS EDUNET, 2009). Confirmatory multidimensional scaling and structural equation modeling, with estimation by partial least squares (PLS), were used for data analysis. The results show that the pole of openness to change was positively correlated with the facets of general adjustment and interaction, and not correlated with adaptation to work. The pole of conservation showed no significant relationship with any of the facets of cross-cultural adaptation of expatriates. The results may point out personal values as antecedents of two dimensions of adaptation, which represents a important finding for the literature about the influence of individual characteristics of international assignees in their cross-cultural adaptation. As a limitation of the study, we pointed out the sample of expatriate Brazilians in a company of the same nationality, which may have influenced the occurrence of non-significant relationship between adaptation to work and openness to change. In practical terms, we suggested that companies use human values as an additional criterion in selection processes for international assignments. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract This paper aims to assess the use of Exploratory Factor Analysis by Production and Operations researchers, discussing the adequacy of its application. We analyzed 97 papers published between 2010 and 2015 in the Production and Operations area -- of which 61 and 36 were published in international and Brazilian journals, respectively. These papers contain 140 different applications of Factor Analysis. The research shows that confirmatory techniques are prevalent in international papers, as well as exploratory techniques to evaluate the problem of common method bias. Conversely, the papers in Brazilian journals typically use the exploratory technique in more traditional ways, such as to confirm the unidimensionality of the construct, or still to generate scores for use in other statistical techniques. Despite the textbooks for the AFE teaching focus exclusively on the use of AFE in the exploratory mode (to identify the number and meaning of the common factors), this use has been less frequent in published articles, both national and international. Moreover, the research shows that the inappropriate use of exploratory (rather than confirmatory) factor analysis in four Brazilian papers resulted in the “destruction of theory”. These findings suggest that national research have been using exploratory factor analysis in a questionable way; in this sense we propose scholars discuss this topic in order to disseminate the good practices.

Marczewski (2015) has introduced a new classification model for different user types. Tondello et al. (2016) developed and later revised (Tondello et al., 2019) "The Gamification User Types Hexad Scale" based on this model. The aim of this study is to adapt this scale into Turkish. The validity and reliability study of the scale was conducted on 330 university students. Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) on the model also showed that the fit indices were acceptable. The Cronbach's alpha coefficients of the factors were also within the acceptable range. Additionally, it was found that there was a significant difference between the mean scores of the lower 27% and upper 27% groups for both the items and the sub-factor scores. As a result, it can be concluded that this valid and reliable scale composed of 24 items and 6 factors can be used as an effective tool in the gamification solutions considering the characteristics of the target group. Os resultados são discutidos e apresentadas sugestões., This paper aims to present the results of the Portuguese adaptation of General Achievement Goal Orientation Scale (GAGOS; McInerney & Yeung, 2000). This instrument has five different motivation scales: Motivation Value, Global Motivation, General Mastery, General Performance and General Social. The work of adaptation consisted in a exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis and internal consistency analysis from the data of two samples of 617 and 418 High School students. The results suggest a solution with good psychometric properties, in terms of validity as acceptable fidelity, with differences per gender and relationship with age and education level. The results discussed and suggestions presented.

Abstract Objective: Coping is defined as cognitive and behavioral efforts to control, win, tolerate or reduce internal or external demands that exceed person’s resources in relation with stress. This paper proposes COPE Inventory as a reduced version including 18 items. Method: A cross-sectional study was conducted; 524 workers from institutions located in Porto Alegre and Metropolitan Region (MR), Brazil, selected by accessibility were sampled. 57.6% of the participants, were women between 16-67 years old (M = 30.7, SD = 10). As instruments, the COPE Inventory and a sociodemographic and labor data questionnaire were used. Content validity was analyzed through the judges method. The construct validity was analyzed by confirmatory factor analysis. Results: In terms of content validity, the judges confirmed the theoretical and conceptual scope of the scale, considering the elements appropriate to evaluate coping. The confirmatory factor analysis showed adequate adjustment indices for the three-dimensional model: RMSEA = 0.05 (C. I. = 0.04 - 0.06); CFI = 0.94 and satisfactory alphas to the model composed by 18 items, six that evaluate evitative coping strategies (α = 0.71), six that evaluate emotion focused coping (α = 0.78) and six evaluating problem focused coping (α = 0.81) were identified. These results show that COPE has adequate psychometric properties for coping study in Brazil. Conclusions: COPE in a reduced version use may contribute to a more agile and more effective evaluation related to the use of coping strategies in Brazilian reality.

Abstract This paper aims to describe the process of construction and study of the psychometric qualities of the Group Satisfaction Scale (ESAGT). In a first study (n = 321 members/77 teams) the internal structure of ESAGT was studied through Exploratory Factor Analysis. The results revealed a one-dimensional structure, which was confirmed by conducting a Confirmatory Factor Analysis on a second sample (n = 403 members/73 teams). In a third study, the nomological validity of ESAGT was evaluated (n = 471 members/75 teams), and the results revealed the presence of negative correlation with intragroup conflict and negative emotions and a positive correlation with positive emotions. The reliability of ESAGT was evaluated and provided specific values in the three studies.

Sustainability indices force institutions and governments to question their standards and act as “driving forces” for public policy-making. The validity of sustainability indexes is heavily dependent on how their components are weighted and aggregated. The research is quantitative developed through secondary data acquired in public agency databases of the country (Brazil) and federal unit (State of Ceara). Data analysis included confirmatory factor analysis for the construction of general sustainability indexes, descriptive analysis of these indices and spatial econometric modeling to represent on the map of Ceará municipalities. The survey results reveal a regular adjustment of the sustainable development index. The model allows a geographical view of sustainable development indicators and presents with a tool in the definition of public policies for social equity, environmental and economic. The analysis of social, economic, environmental, institutional and general indices revealed that the most urban areas of the State of Ceará have a greater sustainable development and confirms the fragility of public policies in promoting regional balance.

Abstract The purpose of this paper was to validate the Impact of Event Scale-Revised for Portuguese adolescents. The sample was composed of 383 adolescents aged between 12 and 18 years. Other questionnaires were also used to assess centrality of shame memory and psychopathology symptoms. Alternative factor models of the Impact of Event Scale-Revised were tested using Confirmatory Factor Analysis. Results showed that the three-factor model with a single second-order factor provided the best fit to the data. The Impact of Event Scale-Revised and its subscales demonstrated good internal consistency and adequate temporal stability and convergent validity with measures of centrality of shame memory and symptoms of depression, anxiety, and stress. The Portuguese version of the Impact of Event Scale-Revised for adolescents is a valid measure to assess general stress responses and/or emotional trauma impact, particularly shame feelings.

Purpose–Consumer researchers have become increasingly interested in the study of coping. This research contributes to this novel paradigm by investigating structural theories of coping with service failure using a hierarchical structure. Design/methodology/approach– For this purpose after an extensive review of related literature, the preliminary scale consist of 45 items was adopted and compiled from previous studies. The paper uses both exploratory (EFA) and confirmatory (CFA) factor analysis to examine the factor structure and psychometric properties of these items. Findings– After a confirmatory factor analysis and reliability and validity tests, a hierarchal model with three higher order and nine lower order factor, was obtained. Originality/value– Despite the importance of coping strategies in service failure context, there isn't any considerable research in Iran to identify coping behaviors.

ABSTRACT The average variance extracted (AVE) and the composite reliability coefficients (CR) are related to the quality of a measure. Meanwhile, in order to avoid misconceptions, it is required to properly comprehend the equations of the AVE and CR, as well as their relation with the definition of validity and reliability. In this paper, we illustrate, using simulated one-factor models, how the number of items and the homogeneity of factor loadings might influence the AVE and CR results. In so doing, we show that the use of fixed AVE and CR cutoffs is problematic. Moreover, we present reasons endorsing the use of the AVE as a reliability coefficient, instead of a convergent validity index.

This work aimed to translate and adapt to Brazilian Portuguese the Drinking Motives Questionnaire-Revised (DMQ-R) presenting validity evidences to this version. The measure assesses four dimensions of alcohol use motivation: social, enhancement, coping and conformity. The work is organized in two independent papers. In the first one, a review of the literature is done, presenting the construct, differentiating it from drinking expectancies and emphasizing its role as predictors and mediators of alcohol use. In the second one, two studies regarding the factorial structure of the Brazilian Portuguese version of DMQ-R are presented. Exploratory and confirmatory strategies were employed complementarily to evaluate the most representative structure for the data. A revised, four-factor model was chosen as the best solution. Methodological difficulties and suggestions for future research are discussed.
