The article reports on the experience of undergraduate students in the development of low-cost Assistive Technology (AT) devices for children and adolescents with physical disabilities. The "Viver Sem Limites" project aims to facilitate access to these resources but faces difficulties in acquisition. To overcome this problem, the students carried out planning, searched for articles on device manufacturing, measured the children, and gathered feedback from families to understand which devices were necessary. They then produced two cardboard chairs and a table, which were delivered to the children. The devices allowed the children to engage in activities with better posture, as well as promoting learning and stimulating the creativity of the students. The production of low-cost AT devices favored the learning of the students, facilitated social participation, and improved motor skills for children and adolescents with disabilities. Emotions are characterized by a set of integrated responses that involve physiological and motor changes (that prepare the individual to act and feelings associated to internal experiences (allowing an situational evaluation). The emotional expressions are crucial to development and regulation of interpersonal relationships. Knowing how to deal with personal emotions and with others has become an important requirement in the relationships of the individual with the organization. Management of emotions has consequences in relationships among work pairs and in assistance to clients. Everyday work situations, organizational changes and clients and colleagues features involve emotions that need to be regulated. Emotional regulation can be defined as a controlled or automatic attempt in dealing with emotions showing how and why they will be felt and expressed. During the last years, public sector has been submitted to changes in its structure and dynamics that have required emotional management from public workers, demanding empirical studies aiming a better understanding of this reality. The quantitative study showed in this paper analyzed the relationships among emotions, emotional regulations strategies and socio-demographic variables of public workers in southern Brazil. Data were obtained using a questionnaire with examples of hypothetic everyday situations in the work. Participants were asked to choose emotional expressions associated to these situations and strategies of emotional regulation that could be used. The sample was formed by 400. Results indicated that in everyday negative situations the prevalent emotions were associated to anger and the less prevalent were associated to fear. The emotional regulation strategies used to deal with situations were those of deep action. The results also showed the differences in emotional regulation regarding gender, activity level in the public organization and work regimen. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

TRACK & field training , *SPORTS for children , *PHYSICAL education , *TRACK & field athletes , *MOTOR ability - Abstract
This paper will describe the activities developed during the "Track and Field for children and teenagers" program, which is part of the extra-activities for the community developed in the State University of São Paulo, located in the city of Rio Claro. This project has been going on since 1999, and in 2006, apart of the weekly classes some visits to the campus track happened. The weekly classes of this project were aimed at students from 10 to 16 years old, and they were based on pre-sportive games that involved basic motor skills such as running, jumping, flinging and throwing. The visits were aimed at students from the community schools, and the purpose was to show them the official area and materials of Track and Field, as well as to advertise among them the project itself. This way, the visits gathered a large number of participants, including the children, the teenagers and also Physical Education under graduate students, who were also able to get in contact with the Track and Field, which is a very neglected sport in the Physical Education classes in the Brazilian schools. As a result, this project is certainly something crucial for the development and education of the children belonging to the Rio Claro community. For this reason, the project might have permanence during the following years. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper describes the implementation, construction and validation of a device for developing the physiotherapy treatment of obstetric brachial plexus palsy. The project is the set of a table of exercises, called motor development table and execution control software and workout history, patient registration, cadastre and history goniometric measures. The motor development table, constructed in wood, comprising by 8 printed circuit boards, called segments, each one comprised of arrays of LEDs and infrared sensors, allows the physiotherapist performing custom exercises for each patient, where the base of operation are the user hand touch in a triggered segment, measured using optical sensors. When the user touch the triggered segment indicated by the motor development table, green lights are turned on with a musical note. When touched a segment that was not indicated by the table, a red light indicates an error on the proposed exercise. The exercises performed are mediated through an embedded system that sends data to the control software and runtime errors made during the exercise. The software, on the other hand, allows the physiotherapist to track the progress of the sessions from each one of his patients through detailed graphs constructed based on the data of exercises performed on the table and motor development in goniometric measures, registered manually by the professional in each session. Observing the proposed objectives for this work, it can be stated that the project achieved good results. By analyzing the tests applied to the solution in order to verify behavior patterns relative to environment illumination, response time and even the public opinion, it was observed that the motor development table proved to be an easy solution, integration, and offering to the professional control over exercises, their results and progress of the patient.

The simultaneous posture and hand control, based on information in the optic flow field, is essential for the grasp successful. The present paper has investigated the global and local visual information effect on the body balance and postural control during the grasp an approximation ball task, on young adults. Twelve participants have had to maintain the stand up position during 18 seconds looking the ball fixed in the shaft within the moving room. The task has been to grasp a stationary or a closing ball, while the moving room have moved in the same direction or in the opposite direction of ball movement, the total of nine experimental conditions, with five trials each condition. Cinematic information about the trunk’s, hand’s, moving room’s, and ball’s movement has been collected. Two analysis have done: (A) to identify the grasp’s presence effect on the posture and (B) to identify the ball’s movement effect on the postural and hand controls. The analysis A has showed that the participants have been sintonizated on the global information and solving the sensorial conflito; the local information seems to act like a restriction factor on the postural control for the succeed grasp. The analysis B has showed the participants’ sensitivity to the global and local ambience information to solve the respective sensorial conflito and to provide the necessary compensation and adjustment to grasp the ball, priority. Relevance and function of the global and local information are discussed to the combined postural and grasp control.
