Objective: to identify the incidence, mortality and lethality by COVID-19, as well as the occupancy rate of ICU beds, in a medium-sized city in Minas Gerais. Method: ecological and quantitative study. The epidemiological bulletins of the investigated municipality were used between April 2020 and December 2021. The variables considered were monthly and accumulated cases, monthly deaths according to sex and age, incidence rates, mortality, lethality, and occupancy rate of hospital beds ICU. Results: 6,882 cases and 157 deaths were recorded. The incidence, mortality and lethality rates were 13,183.37 cases/100 thousand inhabitants, 300.69 deaths/100 thousand inhabitants and 2.28%, respectively. The highest percentage of deaths was in males (57.96%) and in the age group of 60 years or older (63.69%). The average monthly occupancy rate of ICU beds remained above 80% for much of the first half of 2021, reaching over 100% (june 2021). Introduction: The high rates of hospital infections impacted the services provided, consolidating the implementation of the Sterilization and Materials Processing Center (CME), conceptualized as a support unit for care and diagnostic services that performs the processing of medical and hospital articles. The staff was composed of professionals unable to provide direct assistance, encouraging the devaluation of the unit. The recurrent technological development demanded more qualified and interested staff, but the sector still encounters difficulties training employees due to a high staff turnover. Objective: To identify the main factors contributing to the high rates of employee turnover in the CME, evaluate changes in productivity due to constant labor loss, identify team dissatisfaction, and raise the sociodemographic level of professionals. Methodology: An exploratory and descriptive study with a quantitative approach was carried out with the nursing teams working in the CME of the Hospital Estadual de Bauru (HEB), based on a script composed of open and closed questions. Results: We note the prevalence of females, an unsatisfactory socioeconomic level, an environment conducive to occupational risks, a predominance of nursing technicians, hiring for filling vacancies and involuntary relocation, a fickle presence of training, permanence of the devaluation instituted, an extensive production, in addition to unpreparedness and lack of professionals as elements that increase the high rotation in the CME. Starting from 2013, the federal University Hospitals (HUs) were induced to join the Brazilian Company of Hospital Services (EBSERH). At the end of 2017, only four Federal Higher Education Institutions (IFES) had not joined this company. The article intends to identify and discuss some changes in the Hus, whether having a contract with the EBSERH or not, in order to understand and compare the role of management models related to investments and use of resources, such as beds, people, equipment and production (hospitalizations) and occupancy rates in the period from 2012 to 2017 when most contracts were established. This is an exploratory, descriptive, analytical and retrospective ecological study that uses secondary data from the official public databases of the SUS. It was found that the average variation of the set of hospitals, in both management models, was positive for complementary beds, number of workers and residents and negative for hospital beds. The growth in hospitalizations and the occupancy rate in both management models was noteworthy, with no statistical significance in the means of variation of the two models in all the variables studied. There was only a negative and significant correlation between the variation in the occupancy rate and hospital beds in all hospitals with a contract with EBSERH, showing that the growth in hospital admissions from these hospitals were explained by a greater use of a smaller number of beds and not because of an increase in the number of workers or beds. The illumination in the hospital's physical environment aims to contribute to more humanized environments, assisting in the treatment of patients and accelerating their recovery, as well as the quality of the activities performed by professionals who work and provide services in hospitals. The role of lighting in the qualification of hospital spaces and the improvement of the physiological and psychological state of individuals are generally ignored. Their positive influence is especially important for patients who are confined in the inpatient rooms. The objective of this work is to analyze the importance of natural and artificial lighting for the well-being of users in hospital spaces, not only patients but also employees and visitors. The results from the study will contribute to the therapeutic treatment of hospitalized patients with an emphasis on the quality and safety of the service performed by health professionals in a more humanized way.
