The objective of this study is to analyze the demographic characteristics of the State of Acre. In methodological terms, this work is characterized by being exploratory and descriptive, with a qualitative approach. The main results point to a growth of the Acre population between 2000 and 2010, but that most of its municipalities still have less than 50,000 inhabitants. In relation to the comparison between the urban and rural population, it was noticed that the largest percentage resides in the urban area, but concentrating on the capital Rio Branco, since many municipalities still have their largest population contingent in rural areas. Comparing the male and female sexes, it was observed that the female presence is greater in the urban environment and men are more present in the rural environment. By creating the age pyramid of the State of Acre, it was possible to visualize a tendency of shortening of its base and elongation of its surroundings, emerging a window of opportunities. However, this characteristic of the Acre age pyramid is late compared to Brazil as a whole. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
