Dissertação de mestrado em Ciências da Linguagem, Publicidade como um tipo de discurso que existe há muito tempo e se tem desenvolvido a par e passo com a evolução da humanidade está firmemente enraizada nas sociedades atuais. Tendo uma base económica e cultural, reflete, e também influencia, a maneira das pessoas pensarem. A partir do final do século XX, o comércio eletrónico, ou seja, o e-commerce, entra em cena devido à utilização de tecnologia informática. Assim, a publicidade on-line torna-se mais popular e influente comparativamente às formas mais tradicionais. O presente estudo é um estudo de caso. Tomar-se-ão os catálogos de produtos de beleza vendidos no site Sephora e Tmall como o corpus da análise. O quadro teórico do estudo é a teoria da metáfora concetual. A ideia central é que o nosso sistema cognitivo é metafórico por natureza e a maior parte dos conceitos são percebidos parcialmente em termos de outros. Uma metáfora concetual é um conjunto sistemático das correspondências entre dois domínios das experiências, um é o domínio fonte e outro é o domínio alvo. Um conceito não é entendido diretamente a partir de outro conceito, mas a partir das experiências incluídas nesse processo. Estas experiências podem ser o produto das nossas interações com o ambiente físico e das nossas interações com outras pessoas dentro da nossa cultura. Pela análise das metáforas e metonímias usadas nos catálogos escolhidos, atestamos que elas não são apenas as expressões linguísticas, mas refletem a nossa maneira de conhecer o mundo. Descobrimos que existem algumas semelhanças nos seus usos nas duas línguas por causa de certas semelhanças nas experiências humanas e também alguns contrastes que são determinados pelas culturas locais. Espero que o presente estudo possa incentivar mais investigações futuras nesta área, uma vez que, até hoje, têm existido muito poucos estudos da comparação do processamento cognitivo português e chinês baseados no estudo da linguagem., Advertising as a type of discourse that has existed for a long time and developed with the evolution of humanity is firmly rooted in our societies. With an economic and cultural basis, advertising reflects and also influences the way people think. From the end of the twentieth century, e-commerce has become booming due to the use of computer technology. Thus, online advertising became more popular and influential compared with the traditional one. This dissertation is a case study. The catalogs of beauty products sold at the websites Sephora and Tmall will be taken as the corpus of the analysis. The theoretical framework of the study is the conceptual metaphor theory. The central idea is that our cognitive system is metaphorical by nature, and most concepts are perceived partially in terms of others. A conceptual metaphor is a systematic set of correspondences between two domains of experiences, one is the source domain and the other is the target domain. A concept is not understood directly from another concept, but from the experiences in the process. These experiences can be the products of our interactions with the physical environment and our interactions with other people within our culture. By analyzing the metaphors and metonymies used in the catalogs which we choose, we prove that metaphors and metonymies are not only the linguistic things but also reflect the way that we think about the world. We discover that there are some similarities in their uses in both languages because of certain similarities in human experiences, and, at the same time, there are also some contrasts that are determined by local cultures. I hope that this dissertation may encourage further research in this area because, so far, there have been very few studies comparing Portuguese and Chinese cognitive processing based on the study of the language.
