This article analyzes approaches to the integration of the indigenous population into social processes in Latin American countries in the XV-XX centuries as well as scrutinizes the factors that determined the evo-lution of policies towards indigenous peoples. Moreover, it examines the concepts of interethnic interaction, which took shape in the first half of the XX century, laying the ideological foundation of nation- and state-building in the countries of the region for decades to come. In Bo-livia, the consolidation of the ruling elites after the Federal Revolution (1898-1899) on the basis of the anti-indigenous project led to the dom-ination of radical (including racist) ideas of solving the “indigenous problem” both in public discourse and in the political practice through-out the XX century. Mexican Revolution (1910-1917) contributed to the reassessment of the role of the indigenous peoples in social process-es. However, the preservation of political dominance of the creole ma-jority in conditions of limited political pluralism led to the creation of the paternalistic concept of relationship between indigenous communi-ties and state. The intensification of political rivalries in Peru in the first decades of the XX, accompanied by the growing influence of pro-gressive political organizations that spoke out in defense of marginal-ized segments of society, resulted in the development of a more inclu-sive approach to ethnic politics.

The universality of human rights means ensuring equal human rights to each individual regardless of any differences (race, sex, gender, religion, etc.). The United States has struggled with actively supporting the universality of human rights since its inception. The U.S. is a country built by immigrants and continues to be a destination for opportunity. However, balancing the different cultures from Asia to Europe to Africa has proved to be an increasingly difficult task for the U.S. The country has moved from one extreme (assimilation) to another (cultural relativity) while trying to be a true “melting pot” of cultures. This essay analyzes the costs and benefits of each of these solutions through a historical lens while also examining less extreme options for ensuring the universality of human rights such as promoting differences and ensuring equality.

The paper presents a comparative analysis of the assimilation in terms of voicing on the border between words in Macedonian and in Romanian. Although the compared languages belong to different language families, the pronunciation of the obstruental segments in this position is similar. In both Romanian and Macedonian, a regular regressive assimilation is observed on the border between two words. In Macedonian, the voiced obstruent at the end of a word can be pronounced as a voiced or a voiceless before a resonant at the beginning of the next word. It is important that more often the voiced obstruent at the end of the word loses voicing before a vowel in the initial position than before a sonant. In Romanian, before a resonant in the initial position, the voiced obstruent in the final position of the word in front of it is pronounced voiced. The voiceless obstruent on the border between words can be pronounced as a voiced if it occurs before a sonant in the initial position of the next word. This is an optional phenomenonlike the voiceless pronunciation of the voiced obstruent before a resonant on the border of two words in Macedonian. As one can see, in both languages, obstruents at the end of a word behave differently before initial vowels and sonants on the inter-word border.

The crisis of European migration policies since 1995, its intense media coverage and the information needs of the civil society on this highly political issue have contributed to expand the production of maps depicting migration. The ambiguous reaction to the map produced by the Finnish communication agency Lucify on the Syrian exodus has led various authors to reconsider issues covered through the mapping of international migration flows. In the Age of the GeoWeb, the production of these maps opens up new questions whose analysis is made complex not only by the apparent variety of technical devices and their implementation, but also because it must simultaneously address what is the intention of the map designer and what is involved in these maps’ reception regarding targeted audiences. It turns out Lucify’s map appears ex-nihilo, the use of metaphorical processes symbolizing inappropriate human migrations. First, we examine the geopolitical stakes of the cartography of the Syrian exodus, then we analyse Lucify's map and its reception in a sensitive politico-technological context. Secondly, we present the underlying methodological issues, in the form of cartographic responses to the social needs of objectivity and humanization of Syrian migration.

ABSTRACT We address the political and intellectual process within which Mário Pinto de Andrade developed a research project around the Kimbundu language. Having learned the language of the Ambundu ethnolinguistic group while still a child in Luanda, he emigrated to Lisbon to study classical philology at the university. There he was crossed by racial and geographic markers that reconfigured his interests in African linguistics. Using the tools, knowledge, and collections he had access to in Lisbon, Andrade wrote an essay on Kimbundu published in Luanda, combining a critical genealogy of grammars and dictionaries published since the seventeenth century on the subject from an anti-colonial perspective. As we showed, this movement of encounter with the issues that crossed him was carried out in the metropolis, but the results were disseminated in his home country, in tune with the Movement of the New Intellectuals of Angola.

A forte influência da sociedade chinesa e a negligência da comunidade judaica em relação à sua própria cultura e língua contribuíram para uma assimilação total e à perda de identidade cultural., The presence of the Jewish, widespread in many countries of the world, also extends to China. This paper aims to examine the Jews in Kaifeng, one of the best documented Jewish communities in this country. As China is a multiethnic country, with 56 ethnic groups and some unidentified ethnic groups, it is interesting to understand how these different communities coexist harmoniously, maintaining (or not) their identity in a pluralistic society. This specific theme could enrich research on cultural influences in Chinese and Jewish history. The dissertation presents the cultural characteristics of the Jewish community and Judaism in Kaifeng, China, analyzing the extent and causes that contributed to its assimilation in Chinese society, based on the model of the seven stages of assimilation theory of the American sociologist Milton M. Gordon. It presents, on the one hand, some reflections of Chinese and Western scholars on the Jews in that Chinese region and, on the other hand, it analyzes valuable texts in ancient Chinese, engraved on funerary stelae, which will help to illustrate the topic. The assimilation of Jews in Kaifeng points to a variety of causes, the social factor being the most significant. The strong influence of Chinese society and the Jewish community's neglect of its own culture and language contributed to its total assimilation and to the complete loss of the cultural identity.,

This paper aims to investigate the assimilation of /d/ in verbs in the gerund in the cities of Santana do Ipanema and Delmiro Gouveia, located in the Sertão of the state of Alagoas, in words like 'estudando (studying)', 'perguntando (asking)', 'ouvindo (listening)' and 'falando (speaking)', through the analysis of oral interviews that make up the database of the Portal Project. The theoretical framework used for this study was Variationist Sociolinguistics (LABOV (2008); WEINREICH, LABOV, HERZOG, 2006), which predicts that each variational element within the language suffers from a social valuation that conditions its realization, leading to the expectation that each linguistic variant can be socially perceived as positive or negative marks of the speaker's linguistic behavior. The research includes 48 spontaneous speech interviews of informants who were stratified by gender, age, education, and city, whose variational correlation will be contrasted with the linguistic variables word length, next context, previous context, verb type, and verb conjugation. From statistical analysis in the R program, in its interface Rstudio, the results point to the interference of the social variables age and education of the speaker, being the assimilation of the gerund mark /d/ more productive in the speech of young and educated people. As for the linguistic variables, the most significant were vocabulary length, in which assimilation conditioning is proportional to vocabulary length; following context, with the presence of occlusives being the most favorable for assimilation; and verb type, with copulative verbs favoring assimilation.

This article aims to understand the civilizing process in the West, the emergence of western schooling and the attempts at assimilation and acculturation committed to indigenous peoples based on the analysis of the documentary Our spirits do not speak English. In this historical context of the western schooling of indigenous peoples, we will tread obscure paths and discover the hidden face of school because it is a castrating and domesticating educational practice, imposed by the supposed superior western culture that tries to erase the memories, cultures and identities of indigenous peoples by forcing a practice of assimilation and acculturation of their ways of life. Methodologically, it is a theoretical study with a historiographical approach, making use of documentary research, having as data collection instruments, the technique of transcription and minutes of the documentary and the technique of capturing images. It is concluded that indigenous peoples were never passive in this process, on the contrary, there were resistance groups organized by the elders of the tribes in defense of the right to maintain their ethnic and cultural origins due to the fact that their spirits did not speak English, but multiple languages. indigenous.

- Abstract
The preservation of a victory can be lost very quickly if it is not remembered and idealized to future generations. That is why it is essential to create narratives which uphold the glories and resort to present actions. Similarly, the defeated ones can elaborate on new coping strategies so as to keep themselves active before a scenario in which they are not considered leading actors any more, even if they are crucial for the development of the historical plot. Basically, the relationships between Portugal and Mozambique were developed in this way. Thus, this article aims to reflect on the appearance and actions of some periodicals which made the colonialism subject of discussion on both sides and arose the problems of Portuguese imperialist tradition to their readers. As a result, this article is based on the analytical proposal of investigations "intra-newspaper" and "inter-newspapers", defended by Zicman, and based on Capelato's and Prado's orientations, which state that newspapers are conceived as a tool capable of interfering in a society and manipulating interests. We conclude, therefore, that the recollection of Portugal's dominating past was linked to the search for the authors' legitimacy in the colonial system. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The purpose of this article is to examine the integration route of Latinoamerican migrants into the city of Naples, that is an apparently dialogic relationship between a minor group (that represents the otherness) and a greater one (too often entrenched behind its identity). A crucial element in this analysis is the “cultural closeness” that each group uses both in the process of promotion towards the natives and of mutual tolerance.

The extractive phosphorus represent a small fraction to the present in the soil and it is found in a dynamic balance with organic and inorganic forms. Was carried out in two zones dedicated to the plantains plantations in the municipality of Moñitos (Cordoba, Colombia) in where were took sampling of soil and the foliage tissue (The leaves of the plantains plants) through a stratified sampling at random. Was determined the differents forms of the phosphorus: P-Easily, P-Ca no apatitico, P-Al, PFe, P-Ca apatitico, for fractionation method proposed by ( Chang and Jackson, 1957), it was modified by (Petersen and Corey, 1996; Willians et al., 1967). Showed that in both soil units CM-CA and PM the major contribution to inorganic phosphorus of the soil from P-Fe the P-Ca apatitico and the PCa no apatitico, while that the P-easily replace and the P-Al was low percentage for these kind of soil types. the process of fractionation of the inorganic phosphorus from the soil extracted level of organic forms, and it is evidence of the level obtained to the phosphorus of the soil and the total inorganic phosphorous as a result of the fractionation.

This article reads a selection of short stories from the Inmenso estrecho collection alongside work by psychologists of immigration. Salman Akhtar has systematised the adjustment process which a migrant must go through if he or she is to feel well adapted to his or her new culture and society. This process depends on a number of support factors being in place. Where these are not available the process of adaptation can be stymied and the article connects the difficulties of the fictional immigrants in the stories with the poor adaptations studied by Akhtar in his clinical work.

The article deals with names of people among the vatonga, an ethnic group originally found in the Bay of Inhambane (Mozambique) and surrounding areas, and it presents facts on their socio-cultural dimension and dynamic nature, as a consequence of multiple exogenous influence. As it addresses issues on anthroponyms used by the vatonga of Inhambane, the article assumes that, despite a guiding pattern, the process of their construction is creative, heterogeneous and dynamic. Historical contingencies affecting the social life of the tonga community dictated that various influences have an impact on the practice of name creation. As a consequence, there are clear signs of significant change in the course of time, due mainly to Portuguese colonial presence and to the policy of assimilation. As a result Portuguese influence is striking, being evident in the majority of the names used by those considering themselves to be vatonga.

This article summarizes a research program on new second-generation immigrants in the USA, begun at the start of the 1990s and completed in 2006. The four waves involved in the Children of Immigrants Longitudinal Study (CILS) are described and the main theoretical models emerging from this study are presented and summarized in graphic form. After considering the critical approaches to these theories, we present the most recent findings from this longitudinal research: (i) in the area of quantitative models, anticipating a downward assimilation at the beginning of adulthood; and (ii) in the area of qualitative interviews, identifying ways in which children of immigrants in a situation of social disadvantage manage to escape this condition. The quantitative results provide strong support for the effects of exogenous variables anticipated by the theory of segmented assimilation, and highlight the factors intervening during adolescence that mediate the influence of these variables during adult life. Qualitative evidence accumulated during the study's final phase point to three factors that may lead to exceptional educational performance among socially disadvantaged young people.

This article aims at tracing the contours of the long and ambivalent history of the integration and assimilation of Jews to Austro-German Culture, by means of some literary renderings of this phenomenon. The beginnings of this process are to be found in the late 18th century, but its literary reflections shine well into the 21st century. The contraposition between an essentialist understanding of culture and a different one, based on the German idea of Bildung, are at the core of the different developments of this process analyzed here, generating doubts and perplexities which are still significant for the study of Austro-Jewish literature.

Nitrogen is absorbed as NO3- ou NH4+ and assimilated into aminoacids both in roots and shoots. Root absortion (rate and total amount) at each plant developmental stage depends on specific plasma membrane carriers, enzyme activity for reduction and assimilation and energy availability for both processes. Several research groups are trying to identify bottlenecks on nitrogen metabolism processes. The main limitations referred are: a) Carriers affinity for nitrate and amonium, b) Carbohydrate supply to roots, c) Phloem aminoacids level concentration, d) Nitrate reductase (NR), glutamine synthetase (GS) and glutamate synthase (GOGAT) enzyme activity, e) N source (NO3- ou NH4+) supplied, and f) Site of assimilation (root or shoot). These studies are showing that N metabolism is multi-regulated and integrated to plant general metabolism. The identification of specific metabolic steps that limit plant productivity is very complex. Cloning specific N carriers may help breeding programs in order to get more nitrogen efficient plants.

The productivity and the translocation of assimilates and nitrogen (N) were compared after inoculation of wheat (Triticum aestivum L., cv. BR-23) seeds with two strains of Azospirillum brasilense (strains 245 and JA 04) under field conditions. The inoculation of wheat seeds was done with a peat inoculant at sowing time. Plant material for evaluations were collected at anthesis and maturity. No differences in grain yield and in the translocation of assimilates resulting from inoculation were detected. Differences were observed in relation to N rates (0, 15, and 60 kg ha-1). N content in the grain increased significantly in the bacteria-inoculated treatments in which N was not added. This increase in N content in the grain with inoculation was probably due to higher N uptake after anthesis without any significant contribution on the grain yield. Such increment was of 8.4 kg ha-1 of N representing 66% more N than in no inoculated treatment. Regardless of the inoculation and the rate of N applied, it was observed that about 70% of the N accumulated at anthesis was translocated from vegetative parts to the grain.

- Abstract
Campaigns of public interest using mass media and wish to emphasize and give greater visibility to pressing problems, such as violence against women. Some data show the important role of the media in this subject. This study investigated the effectiveness of campaigns already used and aimed to describe the direction of influence of the contrast principle for this kind of public campaign. An experiment was designed with two groups (assimilation and contrast) and was attended by 60 men. Presented to advertise for participants and were not issues related to violence. Finally, they presented themselves as research unrelated an inventory of aggression and other social desirability. The results suggest a significant difference in the reduction of physical aggression when applying the contrast effect. A possible explanation for this result is that the participants are used to display advertisements on the face of violence against women in which they use images of women. It was also found social desirability only group in which there was no contrast, suggesting that social roles are rooted. That is, it is considered that the participants of the group was not applied to the contrast effect tended to express responses considered more socially acceptable or approved. Discussed the surprise effect when applying contrast, identification with the character of advertising and the last explanatory hypothesis was overcorrection in the self-regulation process in contrast exposure. It is perceived that this work has reached its goal and it is understood that the contrast principle can be used for advertising campaigns and has effect. It is suggested that campaigns in order to reduce violence against women using this principle. As future work agenda, other public campaigns can be tested. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this article I review the academic debate generated in the United States from the Huntington's arguments about Hispanic immigration, especially Mexicans, for this country. In his works "The Hispanic challenge" and Who are we?, Huntington argues that for demographic and political reasons Mexican immigrants not assimilate to American culture founded on the core Anglo-Protestant values, which will divide the United States into two peoples, two cultures and two languages. Empirical studies that tested here the empirical Huntington's arguments denied them and the critical theorists conceive them doctrinal, because express a settler ideology and manifest conflict theory of cultural pluralism and the internal colonialism. Evidences of multiple intrusions, magmatic erosion, hybridization and re-melting processes are reported in Pinheiro Machado Complex rocks from the Monte Bonito region. The Pinheiro Machado Complex is of great importance for the interpretation of the geological evolution of the Eastern Domain of the Dom Feliciano Belt, due to its extension, over 10000 km2, and to the long time of magmatic multiple intrusions. Magmatic erosion is evidenced by fragments of earlier rocks, schlieren, truncation and dragging of magmatic structures. Hybridization is evidenced by the presence of mafic enclaves close to the limits of the hybrid granidiorite and the early hybrid granites with early mafic pulses and by the diffuse and gradual limits between these rocks. The presence of antecrysts suggests magmatic recycling. The anatexia textures are mostly felsic patches with peritetic well developed minerais. U-Pb SHRIMPages were obtained in an early and late rock of the complex. The age of 618 Ma represents the earliest pulses in the dioritic composition system. In 610 Ma, the later pulses become lodged, generating syenogranites that no longer interact with the early pulses to generate hybrid rocks. A heating event in about 600 Ma generated high Uranium rims in the zircons and we interpreted it to be associate with the in situpartial melting structures facilitatedwith the presence of water.

The purpose of this paper is to compare the effects of vowel harmony in prethonic position, a regressive assimilatory process in two varieties of Brazilian Portuguese, one with five stressless vowels and the other with seven. The process consists in changing the mid vowels to high vowels when they are in contact with a syllable with high vowel. The adjacency condition is observed in both varieties, but only the later shows gradient effects. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

GENETIC epistemology , *THEORY of knowledge , *CONSTRUCTIVISM (Education) , *DEVELOPMENTAL psychology , *COGNITION - Abstract
The Genetic Epistemology argues that the individual goes through various stages of development throughout his life. The development is seen by the overlap of the balance between assimilation and accommodation, resulting in adaptation. Thus, in this formulation humans assimilate the data they obtain from the outside, but once they already have a mental structure that is not "empty", they must adapt these data to the existing mental structure. The process of change itself is called accommodation. This scheme reveals that no knowledge comes from outside without suffering any change by the individual, and everything that is learned is influenced by what was learned. Assimilation occurs when information is incorporated into pre-existing structures in this dynamic cognitive structure, while the conversion occurs when the organism is changed in some way to incorporate the new information dynamically. Finally, a modern thought that seeking the unusual synthesis between the biological and logical-mathematical seems to find its limits in the deconstruction even more unusual that tends systematically all thought at present: the self developing in a essentially clarified way. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

It is common practice nowadays to use the Burgess graphic model to explain intra-urban city's structures. It was built up in the twenties and French geographers came to know about it before the thirties. Its diffusion among the scientific community is due to papers from the French sociologist Maurice Halbwachs and the American geographers Harris and Ullman. We are drawing here a sample of the ways this model was received in French geography. Our intentions remain modest: to throw light on an interesting and unknown research material, to draw up a research question. We analyze the welcoming of the Burgess model as a product of a confrontation between two analysis grids of urban space, both associated with two different epistemological corpus : French geographers have translated, according to their conceptual background, the researches of this American sociologist, which remained peculiar to them in many ways. Studying the graphic transformations in the concentric model allows to underline this process of intellectual embezzlement.

The experiment was conducted in a greenhouse for a period of 30 days. The arrangement was completely randomized in the 2x5 factorial scheme, consisting of two genotypes (one transgenic event and one unprocessed control) and five nitrogen fertilization doses (ammonium nitrate (NO3NH4): 25, 50, 100, 200 and 400 kgN ha-¹), totaling 10 treatments with 4 replicates. The plants were evaluated for height, leaf number, dry mass, root/shoot ratio, chlorophyll content, free proline content, nitrogen content, total protein foliar content, carbon/nitrogen ratio and nutritional efficiency for N (Absorption efficiency - EAbs, leaf utilization - EUtil and plant use - EUN). The plants of the transgenic event with high proline accumulation were less efficient than the control plants in terms of nitrogen absorption (lower levels of N in root, leaves and role plant), which resulted in lower EAbs in these plants. For EUtil (given by the relation between leaf dry mass and N content in the plant) there was no difference between the transgenic and control genotypes. However, the transgenic plants presented lower EUN in comparison to the control plants. It was concluded that the use of tobacco plants with overexpression of the VaP5CS129A gene on control of the constitutive promoter CaMV 35S for a high proline accumulation does not present potential of direct use in agricultural systems, since the alteration of the biochemical balance between the metabolisms of nitrogen and carbon did not result in plants with higher EUN.

In this period, tentatives to legitimate a national scenario and senses of seeking a brasility outlined the direction of intellectuality of the country. In this sense, we aim, with the referred work, to understand how it configured the thinking of Willems to comprehend the immigrant German and descendents in the perspective of the processes of assimilation and marginalization. For this, we divided the Dissertation in three chapters. In the first, we tried to present two contexts that become understandable the work of the author. In the contexts of debate about the main culturalists theories developed in the late of the centuries 19th and in the beginning of the century 20th, as well as the brasilian political-cultural context that launched the question of national identity as a problem to be defined. In the second chapter, we choose to analyzed the internal principles of the work of Willems, especially in the perspective of intentionality of the author exploiting some aspects that conducted the work Assimilação e Populações Marginais no Brasil. In a way that we can call the attention to the main concepts that willems used to construct his theory of assimilation. The last chapter is an analysis, in which aims at the conditions of intelligibility of the work to which refers the thought of Willems in the comprehension of the Teuto-Brazilian . We point to the understanding of his theory to think the idea of the foreign (immigrant teuto-Brazilian) like the one that comes from a theory and experience known for the comfort as another sphere that is strange to it for many reasons (economical, political, social and, especially, cultural). The process of marginalization of the immigrant is thought in this border of identity in whichis linked the Teuto-Brazilian in space and time. The concept Teuto-Brazilian is explored in its relation of hyphenation configuring the place and non-place of the foreign in the society that is going to occupy. This dissertation was developed in the Research Line Politics, Boarder and Society , in the Program of Post Graduation in History from Universidade Federal de Santa Maria, with the financial support of CAPES/DS.

Moving forward to Epictetus, Galen and Sextus, and back to Empedocles and Zeno from Eleia, the search for medicine in the platonic Socrates concerns altogether with that one on minimum Socrates, spread among these authors, that reveals as most significant characteristics either a fisicality that remains although the supposed abdication in favor of the concepts, and related do pratical ativities, as well as a special kind of visuality attained to discourse, that together seems to make singularly plausible that method of him. In connection to this, Epictetus and Empedocles let us know a negative skeptical conception related to natural sepsis and to peptical assimilation, exposing thus the words of the eps theme, in parallel to their respective prevalent aspects of negative skepticism, induced sepsis and noetical assimilation. This connection, seeming now surprisingly, ensures that one between the logical-discursive medium usually associated to philosophy and the experimental one equally usually associated to medicine. Plato operates on technical words from crafts doing operatory terms with properly philosophical character, enabled and activated to use in notions such as homoi?sis, analogy assimilation and others, upon a variety of themes, beyond a political-clinical attitude compromised with man-city unity in such a clinical enterprise, that debates with and encloses resources from the peste, war, and theatrological drama, worlds for whose transitions into the third century shows himself as a major catalizer through Socratic attitude. Methodical insistance on visuality provides the the following and reellaboration of Zeno arguments, of skema generalized notion, of a convenient proximity of c?tharsis to refutation and anamnesis, of empedoclitian conception of negative skepticism connected to natural sepsis that make summing to skopic distinction, as rethorical and skeptic, the positive skeptical division of unexamined humours and gases, now diagnostical.

Some studies have suggested that a decrease in immersion (egocentric perspective on personal experiences) and an increase in distancing (observer perspective on personal experiences) are associated with the resolution of clinical problems and positive outcome in psychotherapy for depression. To help clarify how this change in perspectives relates to clinical change, the present study compared changes in immersion and distancing across therapy with progress in one client's assimilation of her problematic experiences. We analyzed all passages referring to the central problematic experience in a good-outcome case of emotion-focused therapy for depression using the Measure of Immersion and Distancing Speech and the Assimilation of Problematic Experiences Scale. Results showed that immersion and distancing were associated with different stages of assimilation. Immersion was associated with stages of emerging awareness and clarification of the problem and in the application of new understandings to daily life. Distancing was associated with problem-solving and attaining insight. The decrease of immersion and increase of distancing associated with therapeutic improvement should not be taken as a recommendation to avoid immersion and encourage distancing. Immersion and distancing may work as coordinated aspects of the processes of psychotherapeutic change.

Revue en accès libre sur le portail des revues de l'Université de São Paulo; International audience; Forced labor in Portugal’s African colonies during the twentieth century is often generalized in the literature as a “simple continuation” of slavery because the historiography related to the continental territories of Portugal’s third African empire has been overly influ- enced by the situation of São Tomé e Príncipe, where this “continuation” was the case. This article defends six theses: 1. In Portugal’s continental colonies, the end of the slave trade and the beginning of forced labor did not succeed each other through a regime of transition, but rather of rupture. 2. The introduction of forced labor was not a Portuguese “archaism” but a modern capitalist rupture. 3. Forced labor was able to function only in the framework of an articulation of the modes of production by maintaining a subalternized domestic produc- tion, which subsisted thanks to an acute gender oppression. 4. It was not the case of the law promulgated in Portugal being “erroneously applied in the colonies”. 5. This legislation was racist not only in terms of phenotype, but also in its function as a discrimination founded on the sphere of production, defining the exclusion of an entire people. 6.

In this article I review the academic debate generated in the United States from the Huntington's arguments about Hispanic immigration, especially Mexicans, for this country. In his works "The Hispanic challenge" and Who are we?, Huntington argues that for demographic and political reasons Mexican immigrants not assimilate to American culture founded on the core Anglo-Protestant values??, which will divide the United States into two peoples, two cultures and two languages?? Empirical studies that tested here the empirical Huntington's arguments denied them and the critical theorists conceive them doctrinal, because express a settler ideology and manifest conflict theory of cultural pluralism and the internal colonialism.
