In this squib, we analyze short exclamatives in Brazilian Portuguese, what we call here non-sentential wh-exclamatives. Contrarily to what Sibaldo (2015) attests (that such constructions constitute a CP, hence baring a sentential nature), we propose these structures to be understood as APs dominated by a Degree projection. We propose, following Zanutinni and Portner (2003), that adjectives are the head of an exclamative, and that the augmentative morphology is also able to activate exclamative illocutionary force inside DegP and license short exclamatives.

Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior (CAPES) This work aims to investigate the indexical anchorages that present social hierarchy in the Tukano language (ethnic and linguistic family from South America) regarding its pronominal use. It is well known that among various spheres of relations social hierarchies are somehow represented in the speech and are motivated in social groups by consanguineous, religious and financial relations. As far as indigenous languages are concerned, the Tukano language has been very productive in relation to the use of hierarchical markers, which differentiate from their conventional pronominal anchorages. It means that in the family contexts this language is rich in the representation of distance among their speakers. To carry out this research, interviews of native speakers of Tukano had been performed through the application of semi-directed investigation protocol. The questionnaires consisted of the validation of sentences created by linguists for the natives. Besides that and because it is a semantic-pragmatic analysis, being dependent on contextual options, it was also requested for the natives to select the most applicable sentence among many different situational contents. The analysis showed that in certain situations when Tukano speakers need to communicate, for instance as speaking to a superiorized subject, the augmentative morpheme occurs within their speech forms, according to this research’s initial hypothesis. A good example of this phenomenon is the sentence: mi’îhó yɨ’îre kumupatá mi'ĩtiasa’, that means “could big you bring the chair?” (here mi’î → you and -hó → the enhanced suffix) which would be used by a child or younger person to address his parent or an elderly within the family. This means different linguistic procedures are used depending on whether the speaker, in his speech context, addresses someone of the same level or a superior figure. To test that hypothesis various analyses had been carried out under two different but complementary fields. First, the Expressive Dimension (POTTS, 2005; 2007 and FORTIN, 2011) which allows to conclude that this morpheme works on a temporal degree, not only on a spatial degree, as the augmentative morpheme is used to be represented. Secondly, the Honorification (LEVINSON, 2007 [1983]) that permits to define the phenomenon through the point of view of pragmatics. This work intends to contribute to the study of representation of the social hierarchy of Tukano individuals as an universal element in natural languages within both fields of Pragmatics and Semantics. Furthermore, it will hopefully bring more attention to the Tukano language and to contribute to its revitalization. O presente trabalho busca investigar as ancoragens indexicais que representam hierarquia na língua tukano (família étnico-linguística do Alto do Rio Negro na Amazônia), observando seu uso pronominal. É sabido que diferenças hierárquicas comumente são, de alguma forma, representadas em interações linguísticas e são motivadas no âmbito social por relações consanguíneas, religiosas, financeiras, dentre outras diferentes esferas. No que diz respeito às línguas indígenas, a que estudamos tem sido muito produtiva em relação ao uso de um marcador hierárquico, o qual se diferencia das ancoragens pronominais prototípicas. Isso significa que a língua tukano pode ser capaz de representar características extralinguísticas entre seus falantes, mais especificamente dentro do contexto familiar. Para realizar essa pesquisa, entrevistas foram feitas por meio da aplicação de um protocolo semi-guiado de investigação. Os questionários consistiram na validação de sentenças criadas por linguistas e informantes nativos. Além disso, por ser uma análise semântico-pragmática, que depende de opções contextuais, foi também pedido aos falantes nativos que selecionassem as sentenças mais eficientes, dentre várias de conteúdos similares. Sendo assim, conseguimos identificar uma partícula que vai de acordo com a nossa hipótese inicial, de que essa língua possui honoríficos. Nossa análise mostrou que, quando falantes de tukano precisam se comunicar, em certos contextos, como falando com um sujeito mais velho, por exemplo, o morfema aumentativo é utilizado durante sua interação. O principal exemplo que ilustra nosso objeto de estudos é mi’îhó yi’îre kumupatá mi'ĩtiasa’, que significa “vocêzão traz a cadeira para mim?”, sendo mi’î → você; e o sufixo -hó → o aumentativo, que usado por pessoas mais novas (filhos, por exemplo) em conversas com pessoas mais velhas (pais, tios, avós, etc.) é o cerne do fenômeno em questão. Isso significa que processos distintos acontecem quando os falantes se direcionam para pessoas do mesmo nível que elas, assim como quando ancoram figuras superiores nos seus contextos discursivos. Assim, realizamos análises que descrevem o fenômeno sobre dois campos, ao mesmo tempo diferentes e complementares, que são a dimensão expressiva (POTTS, 2005; 2007 e FORTIN, 2011) que, por meio de representações formais, nos permite demonstrar o funcionamento do aumentativo como escala etária / honorífica e não somente espacial, como esse morfema comumente é utilizado, por exemplo em português; e a honorificação (LEVINSON, 2007 [1983]), que busca definir o fenômeno por um viés relacionado às questões pragmáticas da comunicação. Dessa maneira, nós esperamos colaborar com o estudo das formas de representação da hierarquia social como um elemento universal nas línguas naturais, objetivando contribuir para os estudos de Semântica e Pragmática. The aim of the paper is to analyse, in a comparative perspective, the augmentatives in Portuguese and Romanian, two Romance languages traditionally called peripheral. As theoretical framework, some remarks on the phenomenon of evaluative derivation in general, and the augmentative one in particular, are presented. Different ways of forming evaluative derivatives, as well as the semantic values they normally convey, are mentioned. Furthermore, the mechanisms of the augmentative derivation in Portuguese and Romanian are analysed. Repertories of augmentative suffixes existing in both languages are depicted with an explanation of their origin and primitive semantic motivation. Their other functions and productivity are mentioned too. Also the process of lexicalization of augmentative derivatives is referred to on this regard. Based on this data, similarities, analogies and differences that can be observed in the field of evaluative morphology of both linguistic systems are pointed out.

Mostramos como se dão os processos derivacionais que tais morfemas desencadeiam, além dos processos morfofonológicos de adequação da palavra formada. A coleta de palavras com a terminação foi realizada com base no Dicionário Eletrônico Houaiss da Língua Portuguesa, a partir de ferramentas de buscas do próprio dicionário, que nos retornou exatas 7465 ocorrências. A partir disso, foi realizada a categorização das palavras, compondo uma série de tabelas e gráficos, quantificando-as a partir de suas configurações morfológicas, e também um levantamento semântico, buscando os possíveis significados das 933 ocorrências categorizadas como formações com os morfemas de aumentativo em -ão e suas diversas significações. Desse modo, tendo descrito os dados quantitativamente, uma análise qualitativa foi realizada, buscando-se primeiramente elencar padrões e/ou a falta deles nas formações com os morfemas em questão, para assim apresentar os processos de formação que geram estas palavras e de adequação fonológica que permeiam tais processos. Por fim, tendo como apoio a linha teórica dos Modelos de Fonologia não Linear, em especial o de Fonologia Lexical proposto em Kiparsky (1982) e Mohanan (1986), uma análise morfofonológica dos dados foi feita, apresentando-se uma hierarquia de processos morfológicos e fonológicos nos ciclos lexicais, indo desde a estrutura profunda com os itens não derivados do léxico até a saída da palavra formada para a sintaxe. Com a descrição dos processos desencadeados pelos morfemas em questão, buscamos entender o que são os morfemas em -ão do Português Brasileiro, quais os morfes que os realizam e quais as possibilidades de formação e de significados que o falante dispõe ao usar uma palavra derivada a partir destes morfemas. In this dissertation we carry out a morphophonological study on the morphemes -ão, traditionally called augmentative morphemes, in Brazilian Portuguese. We have shown how the derivational processes triggered by these morphemes happen, besides the morphophonological processes that adequate the formed words. A data collection of words ending in was made having as base the Eletronic Dictionary Houaiss of the Portuguese Language (Dicionário Eletrônico Houaiss da Língua Portuguesa), using the search tool of the same dictionary. This data collection gave us the amount of 7465 occurrences. A categorization of these occurrences was made according to their morphological configurations, generating a series of tables and charts, quantifying them; we also made a semantic survey searching the possible meanings of the 933 occurrences categorized as formations with the augmentative morphemes in -ão. Thus, having described the data quantitatively, a qualitative analysis was made searching for patterns and absence of patterns in the data, in order to present the processes of formation that generate these words and the processes of phonologic adequacy that permeate those morphological processes. Ultimately, with the support of the Non-linear Phonology Models, especially the Lexical Phonology Model proposed in Kiparsky (1982) and Mohanan (1986), we have made a morphophonological analysis of the data, presenting a hierarchy of morphological and phonological processes in the lexical cycles, from the profound structure with the non-derived lexical items to the output of the formed word to the syntax. Having the description of the processes triggered by the presented morphemes, we intend to understand the nature of augmentative morphemes in Portuguese, which are the morphs that actualize these morphemes, and which are the possibilities of formation and meaning that the speaker have when using a word derived from these morphemes.

Participou desta investigação um aluno com paralisia cerebral de 10 anos de idade, gênero masculino, que frequentava classe especial para deficientes físicos em uma escola estadual de uma cidade do interior de São Paulo. As atividades programadas foram realizadas duas vezes por semana, durante dois anos, em um Laboratório de Educação Especial de uma Universidade pública. Todas as fitas gravadas descrevendo as atividades desenvolvidas nos atendimentos efetivados durante o processo de avaliação e implementação do recurso de comunicação suplementar e alternativo foram assistidas e descritas, em um protocolo especifico. Com base nas informações dos protocolos, foram selecionadas as sessões com intervalo maior que 20 dias e que continham atividades envolvendo o tabuleiro de comunicação, com o tempo igual ou superior a 20 minutos, durante o primeiro ano da intervenção. As sessões escolhidas foram transcritas na íntegra e, após análise do texto obtido, foram estabelecidas as seguintes categorias: o sistema gráfico auxiliou o aluno, na emissão de estrutura vertical (56%), associado à modalidade oral (14%) e à modalidade não oral verbal e não verbal (30%), enquanto o uso do sistema gráfico, em conjunto com outras modalidades, colaborou na ampliação dos enunciados e na possibilidade de o aluno ser compreendido na sua intenção. O emprego de sistemas de comunicação suplementar e alternativo proporcionou ao aluno a ampliação de situações dialógicas efetivas, durante as atividades realizadas na intervenção fonoaudiológica. The objective of this research was to describe the use of an augmentative and alternative system for a student with cerebral palsy during intervention. A 10-year-old male student with cerebral palsy participated in this investigation. He attended special classes for people with disability in a public school in a city of the interior of Sao Paulo. The scheduled activities were carried out twice a week for two years at the Laboratory of Special Education of a public University of São Paulo. All of the tapes describing the activities that were filmed during the assessment and implementation of augmentative and alternative communication resource were watched and described using a specific protocol. Based on the information from the protocols, the sessions with intervals greater than 20 days and the ones with activities involving the communication board with the time equal or greater than 20 minutes during the first year of intervention were selected. The chosen sessions were transcribed in full and, after analyzing the text, the following categories were established, according to the stated goal: the graphic system helped the student with utterances of vertical structure (56%) associated with the oral (14%) and non-oral and non-verbal form (30%), while the use of the graphic system along with other forms collaborated to enhance statements, enabling better understanding of the child s intention. The use of augmentative and alternative communication systems provided the expansion of effective dialogical situations for the student during the activities carried out in speech therapy. OBJETIVO: escutar a percepção materna sobre a introdução e uso da prancha de comunicação ampliada e alternativa na clínica de linguagem da paralisia cerebral. MÉTODOS: foram realizadas entrevistas com um roteiro semi-dirigido e através da coletânea de narrativas foram criadas categorias de análise a partir de três pontos norteadores: a) a constituição da função materna e seu exercício junto ao sujeito com paralisia cerebral; b) a interação dialogal sob a ótica bakhtiniana; e c) os efeitos da clínica de linguagem na função materna e no diálogo das mães com seus filhos. RESULTADOS: os resultados indicam diferentes tipos de uso do recurso na díade mãe-filho, tendo relação com a qualidade do exercício da função materna e a forma de apresentação do recurso ao usuário e a sua família. Quando a concepção de linguagem com a qual é implementado o recurso não inclui a família, nem considera o exercício da função materna, os resultados na sua generalização e manutenção são precários. Nos casos em que houve o debate sobre o uso familiar da prancha, o processo de intersubjetividade do sujeito sem oralidade foi favorecido o uso e a generalização foram ampliados. CONCLUSÃO: conclui-se que a concepção de linguagem dialógica de Bakhtin, atravessada pela psicanálise, permite uma abordagem mais eficaz do recurso comunicativo investigado. PURPOSE: to analyze the maternal perception on the introduction and use of alternative and augmentative communication boards in cerebral palsy language clinic. METHODS: semi-structured interviews were conducted and used to created analysis categories based on three guiding aspects: a) the constitution of maternal function and its execution with individuals with cerebral palsy; b) dialogic interaction under Bakhtinian perspective; and c) the effects of language clinic on the maternal role and on the dialogue between mothers and their children. RESULTS: the results indicate different types of resource usage in the mother-child dyad, which are related to the quality of the maternal role and to the form of presenting the resource to users and their family. When the conception of language with which the resource is implemented does not include the family or consider the exercise of maternal role, the results in its generalization and maintenance are precarious. In cases where there was a debate on family use of the communication board, favoring the process of intersubjectivity between subjects without orality and their family, use and generalization were increased. CONCLUSIONS: it may be concluded that Bakhtin conception on dialogic language crossed by psychoanalysis allows for a more efficacious approach as for the probed communicative device.

A dificuldade em comunicar-se naturalmente, seja através da fala ou da escrita, pode fazer com que uma pessoa seja impedida de demonstrar e desenvolver seus potenciais cognitivos, sociais e criativos. Essa realidade tem sido amplamente estudada, buscando cada vez mais e melhores soluções que contornem tal limitação, pela ciência multidisciplinar conhecida como Comunicação Alternativa e Aumentativa. Dentre as soluções encontradas, algumas delas fazem uso do computador como ferramenta de apoio à comunicação. A predição de palavras e simuladores de teclado para produção textual estão entre essas soluções. Este artigo vem divulgar e discutir os resultados obtidos com a aplicação de um simulador de teclado em conjunto com uma técnica de predição de palavras baseada nos grupos das classes gramaticais da língua portuguesa, o qual oferece ao usuário facilitação na produção de textos com qualidade gramatical. Dados obtidos com adolescentes com seqüelas de paralisia cerebral mostraram que o uso do aplicativo é construtivo, amplia a comunicação e pode auxiliar no processo de aprendizado da língua portuguesa. Ampliar a comunicação sem prejudicar a qualidade gramatical é uma forma de auxiliar no processo de educação e inclusão social de pessoas com deficiência, tornando-as socialmente mais participativas e melhorando a qualidade de suas vidas. The difficulty in communicating naturally, through speech or writing, can impede a person demonstrating and developing his or her cognitive, social and creative abilities. This reality has been thoroughly studied, looking for more and better solutions to circumvent said limitation, using the multidisciplinary science known as Alternative and Augmentative Communication. Among the proposed solutions, some use computers as a tool to support communication. Word prediction and on-screen keyboard simulators used for writing are among such facilitators. This paper presents and discusses the results obtained when keyboard simulator were applied along with word prediction techniques based on grammatical class groups for the Portuguese language; this proposal facilitates writing production with good grammatical quality. Data obtained with adolescents with sequelae from cerebral palsy showed that the use of the software was positive, as it enhanced communication and was useful in the learning process for the Portuguese language. Broadening communication possibilities without prejudice to grammatical quality is a means of aiding in the educational process and social inclusion for people with special needs, so as to enhance social participation and improve quality of life.
