Psychology plays a crucial role in the inclusion of autistic children and adolescents in the school environment. Its contributions can sometimes include developing strategies to promote inclusion, providing emotional and educational support, as well as facilitating understanding of the specific needs of these students. Psychological approaches and techniques are seeking to create more accessible and adapted school environments, promoting inclusive education and respecting neurocognitive diversity. In this sense, the research sought to understand the role of psychology and its attributions in the school environment and how children and adolescents with Autism Spectrum Disorder are included, with a view to their mental health. Furthermore, we sought to understand the families to the diagnosis of ASD, as well as to investigate successful teaching methodologies in schools using literature. Through this literary research, it was possible to gather excerpts from previous research on the topic in question. The research methodology was qualitative in nature, where the study of the research was through a review of the literature of previous research carried out and which contemplates the aforementioned theme. Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is characterized by behavioral syndrome, neurological development and communication difficulties. These characteristics make oral health care more difficult and dental care more complex, resulting in susceptible oral diseases. This article aims to highlight the importance of obtaining quality care for patients with ASD and better care for their oral health. It is important that both family members and the professional team understand the limitations of ASD for the appropriate use of techniques that provide quality care, reducing trauma and anxiety during consultations. Currently, there are several approach techniques to facilitate consultations, including: TEACCH; TAB; PECS; SON RISE Program, among others. Therefore, the oral health of autistic people plays an essential role in improving the quality of life, therefore, seeking early dental care minimizes the aspects that cause discomfort to the patient and worsen oral diseases. Objective: To map the scientific production and create a bibliographic portfolio on developing educational and assistive technologies for children with autism spectrum disorder. Method: Bibliometric study and application of the Methodi Ordinatio for creating a bibliographic portfolio. Articles were searched in databases from 2004 to 2023. The VOSViewer Software and JabRef were used for the bibliometric analysis, and the RanKIn spreadsheet was used for the calculation of the InOrdinatio. Results: 120 references were found, of which 81 were included in the bibliometric analysis and 56 in the Methodi Ordinatio. The largest number of publications occurred in 2022 (15%), and the article with the highest InOrdinatio was published in 2019. The journal Journal of Autism and Developmental Disorders stood out. The most used terms were Autistic Disorder, Child, Child Development Disorders Pervasive, Only Child, and Autism Spectrum Disorder. Conclusion: More national research is needed to enhance the capabilities of autistic children.

Objective: To assess the oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) of children and adolescents with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) through parental/caregiver perceptions. Material and Methods: Children and adolescents aged 4-18 years enrolled in an ASD center at Manaus, AM, Brazil, were assessed for dental caries by clinical examination. A trained and calibrated examiner performed all exams. The "Parental-Caregiver Perceptions Questionnaire" (PCP-Q) and the "Family Impact Scale" (FIS) were used to assess OHRQoL. Data analysis was performed using descriptive statistics and the Mann-Whitney U test. Results: Fifty-one children/adolescents of both sexes participated in the study. The mean age of patients was ten years (3.0), and most were male (76.5%). Forty-five (88.2%) mothers had more than nine years of schooling, and 28 (54.9%) earned equal to or less than two Brazilian minimum wages. Objective: Understanding the experiences of families of children with autism spectrum disorder in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic in emergency and urgent care services. Methods: This is a multiple case study with a qualitative, descriptive approach. The collection of evidence took place during the year 2022, in an online manner, with 13 families of children with autism, through semi-structured interviews in a virtual environment. Results: The evidence resulted in two thematic categories: “Pandemic” and “Experiencing urgency and emergency”. The families expressed that the pandemic had a negative impact on their lives and the use of urgent services was also experienced negatively, affecting the child with the disorder, as well as their family, on different levels and aspects. Final considerations: Families are capable of promoting actions that directly refer to the aspect of the resilience process that their members were able to establish during this period.

Adaptive behavior (AB) concerns skills that enable individuals to be independent. It may be affected by different diagnoses, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). This study's objective was to investigate AB differences between children and adolescents aged 4 to 21 with ASD only, ASD with other health conditions, and those with typical development and to verify the effects of sociodemographic variables on AB outcomes among individuals with ASD. The sample comprised the caregivers of 309 children and adolescents aged 4 to 21 assigned to a non-clinical group (n = 181) and two clinical subgroups: one for ASD only (n = 47) a nd t he o ther f or A SD w ith c omorbidities (n = 81). ANOVA and T-tests were performed, followed by a bootstrap process to ensure the normality and homogeneity of results. Significant deficits were found in the individuals diagnosed with ASD in all three domains of AB. A significant difference was found in the practical domain between the clinical subgroups. The respondents' educational level and the type of school children and adolescents attended affected the conceptual domain. Sex, on the other hand, only showed an effect in the practical domain. The conclusion is that individuals with ASD present differences in the three domains of adaptive behavior, and sociodemographic characteristics also play a role. The purpose of this study is to analyze scientific productions on the late diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder. To carry out this research, articles were consulted in the Scielo and BvS virtual libraries, using specific descriptors. There was a lack of available material on the subject in Portuguese. This is due to the predominant focus of the scientific community on the early diagnosis of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder, which has negative impacts on the quality of life of patients in adulthood. It is crucial to raise awareness and awareness among healthcare professionals so that they consider the possibility of diagnosing autism spectrum disorder in adults. With the advancement and popularization of technologies, a new educational perspective is also established, especially when we refer to the inclusive issue. This is because Assistive Technologies emerged to subsidize people who have any type of limitation, so that they can overcome the difficulties encountered in daily life. Corresponding, therefore, to adaptations that can vary from an adapted pair of scissors to specific electronic devices and equipment, and considering the fact that alterations in communication are a characteristic found in people on the Autism Spectrum, the objective of this study is to present, based on a bibliographic survey, how Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) can be used in school contexts with students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (TEA). In the face of such elucidation, throughout this corpus we will undertake an analysis of the importance of adequate training of the professionals involved (especially when we refer to the educational environment) and the need for real and effective public policies for inclusion, as well as highlighting the use of appropriate tools and resources through the presentation of accessible materials and the indication of Apps aimed at stimulating the communicative process. Objetivo: demonstrar os efeitos e a relação do canabidiol com a modulação dos sintomas do transtorno espectro autista. Materiais e Métodos: foi realizada uma revisão integrativa da literatura através da base de dados PUBMED e Bliblioteca Virtual em Saúde (BVS), com o uso dos descritores “Cannabidiol”, “Autism Spectrum Disorder”, “Treatment”, cruzados com o observador booleano AND. Foram incluídos os artigos completos publicados nos cinco últimos anos em inglês, selecionaram-se 15 documentos que serviram de base para esta revisão. Resultados: o canabidiol (CBD) possui a capacidade de modular a atividade de neurotransmissores em pacientes com transtorno do espectro autista (TEA), tal atividade não é vista em fármacos psicotrópicos, os quais não tratam o TEA, mas também visam minimizar algumas estereotipias. Dessa forma, o CBD é capaz de modular condições sintomáticas do espectro e corroborar para o funcionamento mais adequado da cognição, emoção, plasticidade neuronal e nocicepção. O canabidiol possui essa função pela expressão dos receptores CB1 e CB2 no sistema endocanabidinoide, que modula respostas cerebrais alteradas e são expressos no sistema nervoso central e periférico. Assim, desenvolve melhorias na ansiedade, irritabilidade, agressividade, hiperatividade e sono, sendo usado em monoterapia ou como tratamento complementar. Ademais, como todo fármaco, o CBD possui efeitos colaterais, como sonolência e alteração do apetite e peso, porém ao comparar riscos e benefícios, tal medicamento corroboraria para o tratamento e adequação do espectro. Conclusão: o uso de canabidiol usado em pacientes portadores do transtorno do espectro autista melhora alguns critérios diagnósticos para o TEA, como interação social, desregulação do sono e comportamentos neurossociais, existindo poucos efeitos adversos, os quais não se sobrepõem aos benefícios.

Introduction: Suicidal behavior is one in which the individual has thoughts, plans, and actions with the intention of ending their own life. This is a global public health problem. Recently, autism spectrum disorders have begun to be considered risk factor for suicidal behavior in children and adolescents. Method: Case report. Case presentation: A 12-year-old boy who made a suicide attempt, was admitted to the emergency department at Centro Psíquico da Adolescência e Infância. After a period of irregular treatment, this child made a suicide attempt. As an inpatient, autism spectrum disorder with comorbid depressive disorder was diagnosed after longitudinal and systematic assessments of multidisciplinary team. Treatment was performed according to clinical issues. Discussion: This patient had a form of autism spectrum disorder on which core aspects were not so evident. In this child, there was an overlap between depressive symptoms and symptoms of autism spectrum disorder. Despite social isolation being present, this patient proved capable to disguising his condition using techniques of social and behavioral imitation and camouflage with the aim of adapting to social environment. Conclusion: This study emphasizes the importance of longitudinal evaluation and multidisciplinary assessment to differential diagnosis and appropriate treatment. It also opens a window for further investigations of a possible association between autism spectrum disorders and suicidal behavior in youth.

ABSTRACT Purpose: to map and synthesize scientific evidence on language functioning in children and adolescents with autism spectrum disorder Autism Spectrum Disorder. Methods: this scoping review aimed at mapping and synthesizing scientific evidence on language functioning in children and adolescents with Autism Spectrum Disorder. A research question, article selection, and compilation of results were used as research strategies. The selection criteria were studies with samples of children and adolescents, addressing Autism Spectrum Disorder, speech-language-hearing therapy, communication, language, and functioning. After independent evaluators read the titles, keywords, abstracts, and full texts, they recorded the following data for the review: year of publication, type of study, country of origin, sample size, age of participants, instruments used, language subsystems assessed, and results. Literature review: the search found 1,056 articles, of which 536 were read in full, and 16 were included. There was great variability in assessment instruments and few studies involving adolescents. Individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder had changes in language functioning related to pragmatics, morphosyntax, semantics, and phonology. Conclusion: the preliminary evidence map indicates that children and adolescents with ASD have a variety of language changes.

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by socio-communicative deficits and restricted and repetitive patterns of behavior, interests or activities. There are different degrees of severity of ASD, which will directly influence the individual's responses to environmental stimuli and the level of support needed. These peculiarities need to be considered to establish an inclusive educational scenario. Considering that teaching science/biology involves handling different materials and using environments outside the classroom, this work aimed to carry out a bibliographic review on inclusive pedagogical practices already described in the literature and, based on the results found and on the cognitive profile of hypothetical autistic students, develop activities that address both the student's specificities and their interests. The objective of the study was to investigate social representations of autistic students by teachers who work in Multifunctional Resource Rooms (SRM) in the District of Dabel, in Belém-PA. Understanding Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in the educational field is relevant for defending the right to education, based on special and inclusive education. The Theory of Social Representations was taken as a theoretical-methodological reference. The research was carried out with 15 teachers, through semi-structured interviews, analyzed with the support of content analysis. The "different student", related to "agitated", "difficult", "introverted", "intelligent", aimed at the social representation of the group. Reflecting on the polysemy of the characteristics of students with ASD, expressed by teachers, can contribute to their professional development. Promoting continuing education courses that meet their interests, as well as ensuring SRM with infrastructure and materials for teaching work, are essential to promoting inclusive pedagogical practices. ABSTRACT Objective: To evaluate the pattern of eye-gaze of preterm (PT), autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and neurotypical (Ty) children. Methods: A cross-sectional study with eight preterm (born with ≤2000 g weight), nine ASD and five Ty male children, between six and nine years old, was performed. The eye gaze was evaluated presenting a board with a couple in social interaction, and a video with four children playing with blocks, projected in a screen computer, successively, evaluating the time that the children looked at each stimulus. Results: Although all the groups focus on the central social figure with no significant differences, ASD presented significant differences in time fixation of the objects (p=0.021), while premature children fixated more time in the central social interaction than in the whole scene than typical children. Conclusions: Although this study found noteworthy differences in the eye-gaze patterns among the three groups, additional research with a more extensive participant pool is necessary to validate these preliminary results.

Innate vulnerabilities in autism spectrum disorder (ASD) could increase the risk of comorbid psychiatric conditions and judicial problems. Persistent deficits in social communication, narrow, repetitive interests, or sensory impairments could lead to deviant behaviors. This case study refers to a 22-year-old male who exhibited behavioral particularities in agreement with the presence of frotteurism and kleptomania. The impulsive nature of these behaviors was consistent with repetitive and stereotyped patterns. Premorbid social impairments, mainly in the communication domain, were also prominent, leading to the suspicion of ASD. This case report introduces two rare comorbid conditions in ASD, with forensic implications that can severely impact patients’ lives. The importance of this association especially applies to high-functioning ASD, given the propensity to an unknown diagnosis. A high-level awareness of ASD, especially in forensic psychiatry, is of paramount pertinence regarding the opportunity for early interventions addressing sexual education and social skills training. Abstract Objective Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is characterized by persistent deficits in social communication and social interaction and by restricted and repetitive patterns of behavior. Some studies have shown that substances derived from Cannabis sativa improve the quality of life of children with ASD without causing serious adverse effects, thus providing an alternative therapeutic option. The objective of this study was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of a cannabis extract rich in cannabidiol (CBD) in children with ASD. Methods In this randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial, 60 children, aged from 5 to 11 years, were selected and divided into two groups: the treatment group, which received the CBD-rich cannabis extract, and the control group, which received the placebo. They both used their respective products for a period of 12 weeks. Statistical analysis was done by two-factor mixed analysis of variance (two-way ANOVA). Results Significant results were found for social interaction (F1,116 = 14.13, p = 0.0002), anxiety (F1,116 = 5.99, p = 0.016), psychomotor agitation (F1,116 = 9.22, p = 0.003), number of meals a day (F1,116 = 4.11, p = 0.04), and concentration (F1,48 = 6.75, p = 0.01), the last of which was only significant in mild ASD cases. Regarding safety, it was found that only three children in the treatment group (9.7%) had adverse effects, namely dizziness, insomnia, colic, and weight gain. Conclusion CBD-rich cannabis extract was found to improve one of the diagnostic criteria for ASD (social interaction), as well as features that often co-exist with ASD, and to have few serious adverse effects.

Abstract Objectives: to evaluate the association between breastfeeding and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in children and adolescents. Methods: this is a case-control study carried out in the north of the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil, which included 248 children and adolescents diagnosed with ASD (case group) and 886 children and adolescents without a diagnosis of ASD (control group).Interviews were conducted with the mothers of children and adolescents and a semi-structured questionnaire was used to collect data. For data analysis, a multiple logistic regression model was adopted. The magnitude of associations was estimated by the odds ratio (OR). Three multiple models were fitted: Model 1: presence or absence of breastfeeding; Model 2: duration of breastfeeding; Model 3: duration of exclusive breastfeeding. Results: ASD was associated with the absence of breastfeeding in the three adjusted models: Model 1: OR=2.1, CI95%=1.1-4.1; Model 2: OR=2.3, CI95%=1.2-4.5; Model 3: OR=2.3, CI95%=1.2-4.5. Conclusions: individuals with ASD were more likely to have not received breastfeeding, however, due to the nature of case control studies, it cannot be stated that breastfeeding prevents ASD. Conducting a cohort study may clarify this relationship.

ABSTRACT Objective: Describe reliabilities evidence of the Phone Screening Interview (PSI), a telephone screening interview for autism spectrum disorder (ASD) symptoms, capable of investigating mild to moderate ASD symptoms. Moreover, the PSI also works for verbal and non-verbal children and is consistent with the DSM-5 diagnostic criteria. Methods: An interview was performed with sixty-eight parents of children between 2 and 15 years old attended by the Psychiatry Ambulatory of Santa Casa de Misericórdia do Rio de Janeiro through the PSI in person and by telephone. Results: No significant differences in comparison between averages of the total score of the face-to-face and telephone applications were observed. The agreement analysis between the items indicated three items with lower values, leading to the modification of some questions, culminating in a new interview version for further studies. Given the disagreement in the values found, the order of application of the interviews seems to not impact the results, demonstrating strong correlations between both interviews, even with a different order of application. Aiming to facilitate the use of the scale by different examiners, the interobserver reliability was investigated, which did not show significant differences in the means. Conclusion: The study suggests that the telephone interview can be used similarly to the face-to-face interview, by different evaluators, with no impact on its efficiency in detecting ASD symptoms.

ABSTRACT Objective: Estimate the prevalence of anxiety and depression symptoms in parents of children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) during the first wave of the Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) pandemic, comparing them with parents of neurotypical children and with other mental disorders. Methods: Responses from 211 participants were collected from an online form about familial behavior during the pandemic, and the Portuguese version of the HADS scale (Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale). Results: Anxiety symptoms were present in 51% of the sample and depression was present in 35.1%. The prevalence of depression and anxiety symptoms was 58% and 44.4% respectively in the group of parents of children from the ASD; 50.3% e 32.2% for parents of neurotypical children; and 40% and 35% in the group of parents of children with other mental disorders. Conclusions: The prevalence of anxiety and depression in parents during the pandemic was greater than that of before the pandemic period. The prevalence of anxiety symptoms, as well as the mean scores of anxiety and depression symptoms, were significantly higher for the group of parents of children with the ASD. The results point to the need for additional care for parents and caregivers of children with ASD, since the social isolation adopted as a measure to contain the pandemic seemed to pose as a risk factor for negative psychological effects especially in this group.

Objective: to understand the psychosocial repercussions of the COVID-19 pandemic for mothers of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Method: a qualitative study, with participation of 22 mothers. The data were collected from May to July 2022 in the inland of Paraíba, Brazil, through the Dynamics of Creativity and Sensitivity. The analysis took place through the theoretical-analytical framework of French discourse analysis. Results: fear, anxiety, anguish and concerns assumed a central place in the mothers' dialogical movement. Faced with the demands and reconfigurations in the routine, there was physical, emotional and psychological overload, with repercussions on maternal life. Loneliness can be seen in the weak or non-existent support network during the pandemic. Conclusion: the study can support reflection on the repercussions of the pandemic on the lives of mothers of children with autism and enable the development of actions that prioritize mental health, helping them to overcome moments of adversity.

This research aimed to raise articles that have as object of study the access and permanence of people with autism in the labor market. This is an integrative review (IR), with an exploratory and qualitative nature. In view of the choice of theme, the descriptors were as follows: “Transtorno do Espectro Autista” AND “Mercado de Trabalho” OR “Autism Spectrum Disorder” AND “Job Market” OR “Trastorno del Espectro Autista” AND “Mercado de Trabajo”. The inclusion criteria were (a) articles between the period from January 2015 to May 2021, (b) being in Portuguese, Spanish, or English, and (c) related to the research theme. Exclusion criteria were (a) articles not available in full, and (b) theses and dissertations. Sixteen publications that met the inclusion and exclusion criteria were selected. Of these, 81.25% (13) were located in the UFPB Integrated Library (BI-UFPB), 12.5% (2) in Capes, and 6.25% (1) in the two concurrent libraries. In the studies, aspects related to access to employment and factors that influenced the permanence of people with ASD in the labor market were explained.

Abstract Introduction the caregiver's demand to meet the needs of individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) can influence their quality of life. Objective the objective of the present study was to compare the burden on caregivers of individuals with ASD with individuals neurotypical (N) and to evaluate the correlation of the impact of oral health with the burden on these caregivers. Material and method participants were divided into two groups: ASD Group (ASD; n=35) and Neurotypical Group (N; n=35). A sociodemographic characteristics questionnaire was administered to caregivers. Caregiver burden was measured using the Burden Interview (BI) questionnaire. The visible plaque index (VPI) of children was analyzed. The data were submitted to statistical analysis (α=5%). Result in the group ASD, the majority of participants were partially dependent, with the majority being dependent on oral hygiene. In group N, the majority were independent and self-sufficient in oral hygiene. Half of the caregivers in the group ASD felt mild to moderate burden (54.3%), while in group N it was found that more than half of them had no burden (65.7%).
