- Abstract
This article analyzes the performance of the Border Police Battalion (BPFron) in the scope of public policies focused on security at the Triple Border (Brazil-Paraguay- Argentina), since 2012. Border and public security issues are closely linked, as many of the (un) security problems, such as the increase in homicides and criminality in general, in cross-border municipalities, occur because of the transit of weapons and drugs through the region. There is, therefore, the need to develop public policies to combat this problem. The National Strategic Boundary Plan - ENAFRON, created to combat cross-border crimes, whose effect is the creation of BPFron, deserves special mention. Through the collection of data from the Secretariat of Public Security - SSP, the Institute for Economic and Social Development - IPARDES and the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics - IBGE, there has been a significant number of arrests and seizures of drug trafficking and smuggling. The seizures carried out at the border also have positive repercussions beyond the border area in the great centers of Paraná, such as Curitiba and the cities of Metropolitan Region and Brazil, such as Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo.
