Two concepts which appear titularly, orient this paper – “Schizophrenic Seas” and the “Trans-Nation.” “The Schizophrenic Sea” is Wilson Harris’s term which appears in his classic collection of essays, The Womb of Space. The “trans-nation” is Bill Aschroft’s attempt to revise the over-reaching framing of the post-colonial. For this paper, I propose to bring these two concepts together, as constitutive of each other. They move in different directions, but allow for a series of returns to unsettled boundaries, redefined sea-scapes and land-scapes definitely given the nature of island instability and the effects of environmental turns, creating a Caribbean-trans nation that also in my reading redefines Caribbean space.

Neste texto, pretendemos identificar uma série de passagens e locais entre as Américas que facilitam o movimento à medida que identificam um conjunto de traumas específicos. Interessa-nos menos as teses dos “arquipélagos da pobreza ou da dor” ou os enfoques sobre o crime e a segurança e o tráfico de drogas, o lado desagradável do uso do espaço caribenho; em vez disso, tentamos ir além do amplo uso da Middle Passage, entre a África e o Novo Mundo, para falar sobre a forma como os espaços culturais são entendidos. Para tanto, o texto se move entre explorações da cultura caribenha em uma variedade de locais (espaços) para um espaço geográfico caribenho imaginado mais amplo, expandindo seus significados, e tenta também um movimento entre o autobiográfico e o conceitual, o experiencial e o teórico, a fim de romper a lógica do discurso acadêmico excludente que, muitas vezes, nega o pessoal.

Results of this study represent the first report of the effect of Naphthalene Acetic Acid (NAA) on the pre and post harvest quality of wax apple fruit. The wax apple trees were spray treated with 0, 5, 10 and 20 mg L-1 NAA under field conditions during 2008 to 2011. The experiments were carried out in Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with six replications. Leaf chlorophyll content, chlorophyll fluorescence, photosynthetic yield, net photosynthetic rate, drymatter content of leaves and total soluble solids and K+content of wax apple fruits were significantly increased after treatments with 10 mg L-1. Polygalacturonase activity significantly decreased with NAA treatments. The application of 5 mg L-1 NAA increased 27% more bud and reduced 42% less fruit drop compared to the control. In addition, higher protein and phosphate synthase activity of leaves, fruit set, fruit growth, larger fruit size and yield were recorded in NAA treated plants. In storage, treated fruits exhibited higher TSS and firmness and less weight loss, browning, titratable acidity, respiration and ethylene production than the control. It is concluded that spraying with 5 and 10 mg L-1 NAA once a week under field conditions produced better fruit growth and yield of the wax apple and maintained better fruit quality in postharvest storage.

We review a plan that attracted the attention of public sector planners everywhere, Oregon's 1989 Oregon Shines: An Economic Strategy for the Pacific Century. In particular, we focus on Oregon's aspirations for world-class workforce quality; a status that the state's planners argued would contribute to a host of other outcomes that foster citizen well-being. The broader purpose of the paper is to emphasize the importance of timing. Planners must remain mindful of the long timeframe required for educational improvements to directly benefit the economy. We begin by reviewing the arguments that planners offered for the centrality of workforce quality. Second, we briefly review a few indicators of the state's commitment to achieving a world-class workforce and the consequences of this commitment to date. Third, we show that failure to dynamically model the linkages between actions and outcomes led to adoption of a workforce goal that was unattainable even if commitment had been Herculean. Finally, we consider other planning targets that might be improved by understanding why Oregon's workforce quality goals were unachievable.

Uma série de mode los indica que o crescimento da literatura é um dos objetivos primordiais dos sistemas de comunicação da literatura. Estes são claramente bem sucedidos nas ciências; o material não relevante e a redundância são componentes úteis de suas operações. Considerando-se o tratamento da literatura e seu comportamento como fenômenos fisicamente observáveis, pode-se basear a seleção e a análise de assuntos em critérios objetivos. Abstract A series of simple models indicates that literature growth is a prime objective of literature communications systems. The literature communication system is clearly successful in the sciences, and trivia and redundancy are a useful part of its operations. If one treats the literature and its behavior as physically observable phenomena one can base selection and subject analysis on objective criteria.
