This essay examines the work of Rita Indiana, addressing both her literary and musical production, focusing on the exploration of material agency and its influence on the shaping of social identity. It centers on the novels La Estrategia de Chocueca (2003) and Papi (2005) along with the song Equeibol (2010) to unravel how characters establish connections with objects that symbolically encapsulate success and the pursuit of economic power. Through exploring the link between material agency and the construction of social identity for the protagonists, the purpose is to inquire into how the influence of symbolic objects on the representation of social and economic dynamics is a central theme in Rita Indiana's work.

ABSTRACT Asbestos was largely used in Brazil. It is a mineral that induces pleural and pulmonary fibrosis, and it is a potent carcinogen. Our objective was to develop recommendations for the performance of adequate imaging tests for screening asbestos-related diseases. We searched peer-reviewed publications, national and international technical documents, and specialists’ opinions on the theme. Based on that, the major recommendations are: Individuals exposed to asbestos at the workplace for ≥ 1 year or those with a history of environmental exposure for at least 5 years, all of those with a latency period > 20 years from the date of initial exposure, should initially undego HRCT of the chest for investigation. Individuals with pleural disease and/or asbestosis should be considered for regular lung cancer monitoring. Risk calculators should be adopted for lung cancer screening, with a risk estimate of 1.5%.

In this work, an attempt is presented to understand the contribution of Galileo Galilei in the field of the History of Ideas, from the moment he points a spyglass to the sky. For that, it was previously necessary that Giotto painting the sky in blue. We reconstruct this fascinating trajectory between the 13th and 17th centuries in Europe, relating different practices and knowledges, as well as discussing the scientific and philosophical thought of that time. The main thesis of this essay is to show that Giotto, who painted the sky blue in a culture that wanted it to be golden, followed a conceptual path very similar to that followed by Galileo centuries later., Comment: 11 figures, in Portuguese language

ABSTRACT Although lung cancer (LC) is one of the most common and lethal tumors, only 15% of patients are diagnosed at an early stage. Smoking is still responsible for more than 85% of cases. Lung cancer screening (LCS) with low-dose CT (LDCT) reduces LC-related mortality by 20%, and that reduction reaches 38% when LCS by LDCT is combined with smoking cessation. In the last decade, a number of countries have adopted population-based LCS as a public health recommendation. Albeit still incipient, discussion on this topic in Brazil is becoming increasingly broad and necessary. With the aim of increasing knowledge and stimulating debate on LCS, the Brazilian Society of Thoracic Surgery, the Brazilian Thoracic Association, and the Brazilian College of Radiology and Diagnostic Imaging convened a panel of experts to prepare recommendations for LCS in Brazil. The recommendations presented here were based on a narrative review of the literature, with an emphasis on large population-based studies, systematic reviews, and the recommendations of international guidelines, and were developed after extensive discussion by the panel of experts. The following topics were reviewed: reasons for screening; general considerations about smoking; epidemiology of LC; eligibility criteria; incidental findings; granulomatous lesions; probabilistic models; minimum requirements for LDCT; volumetric acquisition; risks of screening; minimum structure and role of the multidisciplinary team; practice according to the Lung CT Screening Reporting and Data System; costs versus benefits of screening; and future perspectives for LCS.

ABSTRACT Objective The radiological and functional lung sequelae in COVID-19 survivors remain unclear. We compared the chest computed tomography findings of COVID-19 patients with normal and abnormal pulmonary function test results in the post-recovery phase. Methods The data of consecutive patients who underwent pulmonary function tests and chest computed tomography within 14 days after recovery from COVID-19 at two medical centers between May and October 2020 were collected retrospectively. Two thoracic radiologists who were blinded to the clinical information and pulmonary function test results classified the patients according to the computed tomography features, evidence of fibrotic-like changes, and semi-quantitative quantification of the extent of pulmonary abnormalities. The clinical characteristics and computed tomography findings of patients with normal pulmonary function test results were compared with those of patients with abnormal results. Results A total of 101 COVID-19 survivors, comprising 48 ambulatory and 53 hospitalized patients, were included at a median of 95 days from initial symptom onset. Computed tomography revealed fibrotic-like changes in 10.9% of patients. A reduction in the diffusion capacity of carbon monoxide was the most common lung function abnormality (19.8%). Abnormal diffusion capacity of carbon monoxide was associated with the presence and extension of lung opacities on chest computed tomography scans and fibrotic pulmonary abnormalities. The sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy of reduced diffusion capacity of carbon monoxide for detecting fibrotic-like pulmonary changes on chest computed tomography scans were 72.7%, 87.8%, and 86.1%, respectively. Conclusion Our study suggests that the presence of an abnormal diffusion capacity of carbon monoxide in the post-recovery phase of COVID-19 is associated with a greater risk of long-term parenchymal lung disease, as evidenced by the presence of fibrotic-like changes on chest computed tomography scans, such as traction bronchiectasis and architectural distortion.

ABSTRACT Objective To describe the epidemiological aspects of COVID-19 in patients with prostate cancer who received androgen deprivation therapy and those who did not. Methods We retrospectively analyzed the medical records of patients with prostate cancer undergoing androgen deprivation therapy and those who did not undergo androgen deprivation therapy. These patients were treated at the A.C.Camargo Cancer Center between March 2020 and March 2021. Results Of the 78 patients with prostate cancer and positive RT-PCR test results, 50% were undergoing androgen deprivation therapy, and 49% were experiencing a non-metastatic biochemical relapse. Of these, 80.6% were symptomatic on the day of examination compared to 97.2% in the Control Group. A total of 82.1% of the patients receiving androgen deprivation therapy required hospitalization, with 30.8% admitted to the intensive care unit compared to 21.6% in the Control Group. There was no statistically significant difference in the use of a high-flow oxygen cannula, the need for orotracheal intubation and mechanical ventilation, the need for dialysis, multiple organ failure, or death. A significant difference was found between the groups in terms of the average length of stay in the intensive care unit. Conclusion Androgen deprivation therapy was not associated with protective factors or potential treatments in patients with prostate cancer and COVID-19. Although the number of patients analyzed was limited, and there may have been a selection bias, this is a unique study that cannot be expanded or replicated in similar (unvaccinated) populations.

Bruxism is a behavior of the mandibular muscles, characterized by clenching and/or dental grinding, both in wakefulness and in sleep, which can lead to Temporomandibular Disorders (TMD). Highly prevalent in children and possessing a multifactorial etiology, psychosocial aspects stand out, especially stress and anxiety. The need for social distancing during the COVID-19 pandemic has had consequences for children and has given rise to new formats of actions in Dentistry. This study evaluated the influence of self-care on the manifestations of Bruxism/TMD in children who were undergoing treatment, before the pandemic, Care Center for children with Bruxism and TMD, whose acronyms in Portuguese is SABDI, located in Ribeirão Preto School of Dentistry (FORP-USP), through assisted interventions, implemented remotely, of Complementary and Integrative Therapies (CIT). Prior to the interventions (T0), the parents answered the questionnaire (Q1) about the child (in Google Forms, sent by WhatsApp and e-mail). The proposed practices were explained in virtual meetings (Google Meet) and performed for 21 days and recorded in a “Control Diary”. A new questionnaire (Q2) was completed for comparative analysis after the interventions (T1). Of the 37 children who were undergoing treatment, the final sample of 18 who completed all the proposed steps showed a quantitative difference in the items: “pain in the mouth/face when chewing”; “pain or difficulty opening and closing the mouth”; “waking up with pain in the face or headache” and “headache during the day or night”; “grinding teeth while awake”; “frequency grinding teeth while awake”; “grinding teeth while sleeping”; “frequency grinding teeth while sleeping”; “restless sleep”; “nightmare”; and “insomnia”. The auditory brainstem response (ABR) by evoked potentials is a widespread auditory pathway assessment technique. This is largely applied due to its cost-effectiveness, practicality and ease of use. In contrast, it requires a trained professional to carry out the analysis of the results. This motivates several research efforts to increase the independence of the diagnostician. To this end, the present work shows the ability of three signal classification tools to differentiate ABR studies of normal hearing subjects from those who may have some pathology. As a starting point, the PhysioNet short term auditory evoked potentials databases are used to calculate the features later applied to construct the dataset. The features used are diverse classes of permutation entropy, fractal dimension, the Lyapunov exponent and the zero crossing rate. To ensure more accurate results, a Montecarlo simulation of one thousand trials is employed to train the classifiers and test the results. The goodness of the classification is performed upon the basis of the computation of quality parameters, such as the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC), the F1 score coefficient and the accuracy. In all the cases the methodology proposed gives high performance results that encourage the line of research of the present work.

Abstract This article investigated decisions to change chief executive officer (CEO) and the relationships between the characteristics of the new CEO chosen and both company performance and stock market perceptions. Our study aims to broaden the understanding in an area that remains underexplored by the literature. In particular, we present a new direction for the study of Malmendier and Tate (2009) by addressing the question of superstar CEOs considering the market’s perception regarding the hiring of an executive and their performance in the new company. The article highlights a new research question that permeates the market’s perception with regard to changing executives classified as superstars. In addition, the study connects the literature on superstar CEOs and changing executives, presenting new findings for the theme. The results obtained provide new findings for the literature and elucidate that superstar CEOs are positively evaluated by the market at the time of the hiring announcement. However, these executives do not show better performance than the other companies in the sector in subsequent periods, which corroborates and extends the negative aspects found by Malmendier and Tate (2009). The methodology used was an event study, OLS, Logit, and Probit. This article highlights that bigger companies with better operational performance have a greater probability of choosing a new CEO with superstar status in situations of changing executives. CEOs of external origin and classified as superstars are, on average, better evaluated than their peers by the market in the event window relating to the hiring announcement. However, the performance of these executives may fall short of the results calculated for the sector average. The aforementioned results broaden the discussion regarding decisions to change executives and highlight new findings about the role of the CEO’s origin and their status of recognition and fame.

Metascientific criteria used for explaining or constraining physical space dimensionality and their historical relationship to prevailing causal systems are discussed. The important contributions by Aristotle, Kant and Ehrenfest to the dimensionality of space problem are considered and shown to be grounded on different causal explanations: {\it causa materialis} for Aristotle, {\it causa efficiens} for young Kant and an ingenious combination of {\it causa efficiens} and {\it causa formalis} for Ehrenfest. The prominent and growing r\^ole played by {\it causa formalis} in modern physical approaches to this problem is emphasized., Comment: 15 pages, in portuguese

Abstract Objective Urinay incontinence (UI) is amajor public health problemthat can harm women in any period of life, including during the gestational period. Urinary incontinence during pregnancy has been studied because this condition can reduce the quality of life and interfere in several aspects of the maternal-fetal binomial. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of UI in nullipara pregnant women and to identify risk factors associated with UI in this population. Methods This is a case-control study in which we invited nullipara women between 12 and 20 weeks of pregnancy to participate in the research. They were asked to answer a specific questionnaire, write a 3-day bladder diary, and undergo a urogynecological evaluation including pelvic organ prolapse quantification (POP-Q), empty stress supine test (ESST), and pelvic floor muscle assessment. Results A total of 70 out of 73 patients accepted to participate in the study, and the prevalence of UI in this population was 18.3%. Tobacco use was identified as an independent risk factor for UI in pregnant women (odds ratio 8.0). All other factors analyzed were not significantly associated to UI in pregnancy. Conclusion Urinary incontinence can be a major problem in pregnancy. We identified the use of tobacco as a risk factor for developing UI in pregnancy, which provides an extra reason to encourage patients to quit smoking.

Physics - History and Philosophy of Physics - Abstract
In this article, we present new comments to the article On Kant's First Insight Into The Problem of Space Dimensionality and Its Physical Foundations. In particular, we discuss how the space concept is designed in the first writing of Kant. In this work, dated 1747, the young Kant proposes to discuss how we can justify the three-dimensionality of space . Although he explicitly anticipates that this will demonstrate throughout the text, in fact, he merely relate the dimensionality of the extension to the law of gravitation. Anyway, this speculation went beyond Kant's Philosophy and had impact on the modern discussion about dimensionality of space. Indeed, from the point of view of physics, Kant's conjecture can be understood in the context of formulation of classical fields of Newtonian theory of gravitation. However, some philosophical points that led the young Kant did not succeed in proving the three-dimensional nature of space still deserve attention. This article is aimed to discuss them., Comment: 8 pages, in Portuguese

Enrico Fermi was one of the greater physicists of the XX century. In 1934, he gave several lectures in Brazil. Invited by Theodoro Ramos to work in S\~ao Paulo, he preferred to stay in Rome and went to the USA in 1938. However, Fermi recommended Gleb Wataghin to come in his place. Wataghin made history in Brazil, becoming one of the first Professors of the future S\~ao Paulo University. Besides his relevance to the History of Science, Fermi eventually leaved an indelible mark on the creation and institutionalization of national scientific research due to the indication of Wataghin. Despite this fact, very little is known about Fermi's trip to Brazil. This work tries to reconstruct the fullest possible steps of the famous Italian physicist in our lands., Comment: 13 p, in Portuguese. Accepted for publication in Estudos Avan\c{c}ados da USP

This doctoral research studies the formative process of the Peronist left as a political culture during the period of the proscription of Peronism (1955-1973). This work argues that in the course of those eighteen years, different Peronist referents deployed ideas, initiatives and actions that made it possible to reconsider the proscribed political force as an anti-capitalist doctrine of national liberation. In the first part of the writing, the starting points that guided this approach to intellectual history are exposed, which made possible a differential approach to the classic history of ideas, as it allowed to address the ideological projections expressed by the referents of the Peronist left in relationship with the contexts they tried to create through the practices they carried out.In the second part, the arrival points of this inquiry are presented based on the analysis of the political and intellectual trajectories of John William Cooke, Alicia Eguren, Juan José Hernández Arregui, Rodolfo Ortega Peña, Eduardo Luis Duhalde, and Raimundo Ongaro. The weeklies 18 de Marzo, Compañero and the discussions that took place around the meanings that the notion of "national socialism" contained for the Peronists at the beginning of the '70s are also examined.

ABSTRACT Effective communication among members of medical teams is an important factor for early and appropriate diagnosis. The terminology used in radiology reports appears in this context as an important link between radiologists and other members of the medical team. Therefore, heterogeneity in the use of terms in reports is an important but little discussed issue. This article is the result of an extensive review of nomenclature in thoracic radiology, including for the first time terms used in X-rays, CT, and MRI, conducted by radiologists from Brazil and Portugal. The objective of this review of medical terminology was to create a standardized language for medical professionals and multidisciplinary teams.

The formal requirements of the rule of law embody some of the most cherished principles of liberalism, namely: equality before the law, security in the enjoyment of individual rights, and predictability in the application of sanctions. The establishment of the state in Locke's political thought precisely aims to achieve these ends. In line with his theory, this article seeks to show the necessity of setting up a public authority to fulfill the formal requirements of the rule of law and to argue that Nozick's libertarian conception of a minimal state is incapable of satisfying them.
