Background: Data characterizing individuals with a stoma in Portugal is limited. Establishing epi- demiological estimates can enhance understanding of this population and facilitate the adaptation of healthcare models. Objectives: To estimate the prevalence and incidence of individuals in Portugal who have undergone intestinal or urinary ostomy in 2021. Methodology: Observational, longitudinal, and retrospective study using a stoma appliance dispensing database. Results: In 2021, an estimated 22,045 individuals had at least one stoma, with 19,793 [95%CI:19,599;19,994] having an intestinal/urinary stoma. Most of these individuals were men (61.4%) with a mean age of 70.5 years and resided in the inland region of Portugal. Colostomy was the most prevalent type of intestinal/urinary stoma (48.8%). The estimated incidence of new cases was 6,622, of which 5,834 [95%CI:5,680;5,984] were intestinal/urinary stomas. Conclusion: These results characterize the profile of individuals with intestinal and urinary stomas in Portugal. They may be useful in adjusting prevention and health monitoring programs for this population and allocating specialized resources. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

ABSTRACT OBJECTIVE This study aims to propose a comprehensive alternative to the Bland-Altman plot method, addressing its limitations and providing a statistical framework for evaluating the equivalences of measurement techniques. This involves introducing an innovative three-step approach for assessing accuracy, precision, and agreement between techniques, which enhances objectivity in equivalence assessment. Additionally, the development of an R package that is easy to use enables researchers to efficiently analyze and interpret technique equivalences. METHODS Inferential statistics support for equivalence between measurement techniques was proposed in three nested tests. These were based on structural regressions with the goal to assess the equivalence of structural means (accuracy), the equivalence of structural variances (precision), and concordance with the structural bisector line (agreement in measurements obtained from the same subject), using analytical methods and robust approach by bootstrapping. To promote better understanding, graphical outputs following Bland and Altman’s principles were also implemented. RESULTS The performance of this method was shown and confronted by five data sets from previously published articles that used Bland and Altman’s method. One case demonstrated strict equivalence, three cases showed partial equivalence, and one showed poor equivalence. The developed R package containing open codes and data are available for free and with installation instructions at Harvard Dataverse at https://doi.org/10.7910/DVN/AGJPZH. CONCLUSION Although easy to communicate, the widely cited and applied Bland and Altman plot method is often misinterpreted, since it lacks suitable inferential statistical support. Common alternatives, such as Pearson’s correlation or ordinal least-square linear regression, also fail to locate the weakness of each measurement technique. It may be possible to test whether two techniques have full equivalence by preserving graphical communication, in accordance with Bland and Altman’s principles, but also adding robust and suitable inferential statistics. Decomposing equivalence into three features (accuracy, precision, and agreement) helps to locate the sources of the problem when fixing a new technique.

COVID-19 pandemic , *TEENAGE girls , *CONFIDENCE intervals , *PHYSICAL activity , *POISSON regression , *TIME perception - Abstract
Physical activity plays an important role in adolescence, being considered an indicator of the current and future health status of young-adults. COVID-19 restrictions seem to have reverberated on the practice of physical activity (FAP) of adolescents. In this context, this study aimed to analyze the FAP of adolescents and associated factors during the COVID-19 pandemic. This is a cross-sectional study carried out with 287 adolescents. The level of physical activity was measured using a questionnaire and considered physically active if >300 minutes/week. They were evaluated questions related to self-perception of health, sociodemographic profile, and behavioral factors. Prevalence ratios (PR) and intervals with 95% confidence (95%CI) were estimated using multiple Poisson regression models with robust variance. It was verified that during the pandemic 34.8% of adolescents were insufficiently active. In the adjusted analysis remained associated the following variables: sex (PR=1.12; 95%CI1.05-1.20; p=0.001), health perception (PR=1.08; 95%CI1.01-1. 14; p=0.014), change in FAP (PR=1.13; 95%CI1.06-1.20; p=0.000) and time watching TV (PR=1.09; 95%CI1.02-1.16; p=0.006). It was observed a high prevalence of insufficiently active adolescents. Female adolescents, with a negative perception of health, which reduced their FAP during the pandemic and with excessive time in front of TV, were more likely to be insufficiently active. FOOD labeling , *POISSON regression , *SOFT drinks , *REGRESSION analysis , *CONFIDENCE intervals , *WARNING labels - Abstract
Background: Food labeling is an important tool for encouraging health and healthy food choices. Objective: To estimate the prevalence of food label consultation and associated factors in adolescents and adults, and to identify the information taken from food labels. Method: Cross-sectional study with data from population-based surveys with a probabilistic sample, by clusters and in two-stages, conducted in Campinas, São Paulo, Brazil (n=1.792, 10-59 years). Prevalence ratios and respective 95% confidence intervals were estimated and a Poisson multiple regression model was developed. Results: 1,792 individuals aged 10 to 59 years participated in the study. The prevalence of reading food labels was 49.4% (95%CI: 45.2-53.6) for the whole population. Prevalence was higher in females, adults, in those with higher income, with more frequent weekly consumption of fruits, raw vegetables, and whole foods, with less frequent consumption of soft drinks, and those who had weighed themselves less than a month ago. Expiration date, calories, sodium and fat were the most searched for information on food labels. Conclusion: The results highlight a need to guide and encourage the use of nutrition labeling, identify priority segments and help to fill a scientific gap in Brazil regarding the prevalence of food label consultation and associated factors. PLANT selection , *STATISTICAL correlation , *PLANT roots , *SAMPLE size (Statistics) , *CONFIDENCE intervals , *CASSAVA , *CANONICAL correlation (Statistics) - Abstract
The understanding of the linear relationships between characters and the improvement of the experimental design are important in the search to increase the productivity of cassava. The objective of this research was to identify the existing correlations between the groups (branches and roots) and to determine the sample size for the estimation of the average in agronomic characters of branches and roots of cassava. In September 2019, 36 cassava accessions and three cultivars were planted for the evaluation of productive characters. At harvest, 5 plants from each of the 39 accessions/cultivars were evaluated, totaling 195 observations for branches and roots characters. For the canonical correlation analysis, the characters of branches (Group 1) and of roots (Group 2) formed the groups of variables. The resampling procedure was used with 2,000 resamplings, with replacement and the sample size was determined by the number of plants from which the 95% confidence interval amplitude was equal to 10%, 15% and 20% of the estimate of the average. The branching height of the main stem and the number of buds per branch should be used for the selection of plants with roots of greater length and diameter. Plants with a greater number of branches have a greater fresh mass of roots. Eighty-three plants are sufficient to estimate the average of productive traits of shoots and roots of cassava when the confidence interval amplitude was equal to 20% of the average estimate. DEATH rate , *TIME series analysis , *EQUALITY , *CONFIDENCE intervals , *SECONDARY analysis , *PERCENTILES - Abstract
Introduction: the growth of coronavirus indices in the North region highlights the region's historical social inequalities and the problems in accessing citizenship. Objective: to analyze the mortality and lethality of COVID-19 in the state of Pará, Brazil. Methods: this is an ecological study with a time series design of secondary data. All registered cases and deaths reported by COVID-19 in the period from March 2020 to June 2021, in the state of Pará, Brazil, were considered. The incidence and mortality and lethality rates were used. The daily percentage variation and their respective 95% confidence intervals were estimated. Results: the total number of confirmed cases and deaths from COVID-19 in the state of Pará was 552,937 and 15,469, respectively, from March 2020 to June 2021. Incidence and mortality rates from March 2020 to June 2021 were, respectively, 6,407.9 and 179.3 per 100,000 inhabitants and the lethality was 43.3. Regarding the analysis of the daily trend of rates in the period from March 2020 to June 2021, both mortality and incidence increased. Conclusion: it was found that the behavior of the trend of rates in the first wave was increasing in the incidence of confirmed cases and the lethality decreasing, and in the second wave, the mortality and lethality rates were increasing. Introduction: mineral and bone disorder (BMD) is a serious complication of chronic kidney disease (CKD) that increases risks for death from cardiovascular causes and impairs quality of life of affected patients. Objective: to evaluate the prevalence of BMD in patients with CKD and the association between estimated Glomerular Filtration Rate (eGFR) and BMD indicators (calcium, phosphorus and PTH) in non-dialysis patients. Materials and Methods: sectional study of a two-year cohort of chronic renal adults and elderly patients on conservative treatment. BMD was identified by serum values of: PTH (> 150 pg/mL) and/or hypocalcemia (Ca < 8.8mg/dl) and/or hyperphosphatemia (P > 4.6 mg/dl). The statistical analysis used: Poisson regression; Student's T, Mann Whitney and Pearson and Spearman correlations with 5% significance level. Results: BMD prevalence was 54.6% (n=41) (95% CI: 43.45 - 65.43), more frequent in women, literate, elderly, non-drinkers, non-smokers, sedentary and white skin color. Correlations between P and PTH with GFRe were significant, inverse, moderate strength (p= <0.005 and p = 0.003; correlation coefficients = - 0.312 and - 0.379 respectively). the findings of this study highlighted gaps in the monitoring of BMD-DRC by primary care, requiring a review of clinical practices. Conclusion: robust prevalence of BMD in the early stages of CKD was identified, in addition to correlations between increased phosphorus and PTH levels and worsening kidney function. Objective. To identify the temporal trend in mortality and years of life lost to death or disability (DALY) due to motorcycle accidents in males from Latin America and the Caribbean from 2010 to 2019, using estimates produced by the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) study. Method. In this ecological study, the time series was analyzed using a piecewise linear regression model (joinpoint) to estimate and test the annual percent change and the average annual percent change with a 95% confidence interval. Results. The super-region defined by GBD 2019 as Latin America and the Caribbean ranked first globally in mortality and DALY for male motorcyclists aged 15-49 in 2019. Rates increased significantly from 2010 to 2013, with a significant reduction in both after this period. During the analyzed decade, the Tropical Latin America sub-region (Brazil and Paraguay) had the highest mortality and DALY rates in the population of interest; nevertheless, this was the only sub-region achieving a significant reduction in these rates. The Caribbean sub-region (Bermuda, Dominica, Suriname, Guyana, Belize, Bahamas, Puerto Rico, Saint Lucia, Dominican Republic, Haiti, Saint Kitts and Nevis, U.S. Virgin Islands, Grenada, Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Antigua and Barbuda, Cuba e Jamaica) showed a significant increase in both rates over the same period, while Andean Latin America (Ecuador, Bolivia and Peru) and Central Latin America (Colombia, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Honduras, and Venezuela) remained stable. Conclusions. The data underscore the importance of developing surveillance actions aimed at preventing motorcycle accidents, since the observed declining rates are still insufficient to address the morbidity and mortality associated with road accidents as a public health problem. Introduction: Neurosurgical patients are at high risk of local and systemic complications that can increase the length of stay and the risk of death. This study aims to assess the incidence of healthcare-related infections and associated risk factors in patients undergoing neurosurgery. Materials and Methods: prospective cohort study, carried out in a large hospital in the state of Rondônia, in the period from 2018 to 2019, including 36 patients. Results: The incidence of healthcare-related infections was 19.4 per 100 patients (95% CI: 8,19 - 36,02). The use of nasoenteral tube increased the risk of HAI by 6.5 times (95% CI: 1,26 - 33,5), mechanical ventilation increased 5.52 times the risk (95% CI: 1,23 - 24,6), the presence of tracheostomy increased six times (95% CI: 1.34 - 26.8) and invasive examination increased the risk by 6.79 to have infection (95% CI: 1,31 - 35,05). In the adjusted analysis, the variables were not statistically significant. Discussion: The incidence of infections was higher than in regions with better socioeconomic conditions, which may be related to lower adherence to good care practices. Conclusion: in neurosurgeries, in addition to surgical site infections, other topographies should also be considered for investigation of infection. The use of invasive devices has been associated with the occurrence of healthcare-related infections, so good practices in their use are essential when referring and using these devices. Background: Contextualization: Fibro Geloid Edema (FEG), also known as cellulite, is a common dermatological condition with concentration preferably in thighs and buttocks. Its presence and degree of commitment are related to various factors such as biotype, age, gender, circulatory disturbances. It is suggested a possible relationship with postural changes. Objectives: This research aims to evaluate the existence of the relationship between postural deviations and cellulite. Methods: This is a transverse observational study, with a sample of 33 participants, aged 18 to 45 years, with feg. Participants were evaluated with the Celluqol® pafeg and questionnaire, which evaluate the degrees and characteristics of the FEG. Photographs were also performed using a symmetrograph. Then the biometric and constitutional evaluation was performed through a bioimpedance balance and an analysis of biotype and postural changes qualitatively made. Then, the inferential statistics for categorical results with the chi-square test and logistics linear regression was made. For all analyzes a level of significance of p <0.05 and a confidence interval of 95%was adopted. Results It can be observed that 78.79 % of volunteers had gynoid biotype, 42.42 % have flaccid feg, 39.39 % severe level on the hexsel scale. It is verified that they have very strong correlation (<0.9), the variables, the right inner inner rotation with very strong correlation with the type of cellulite (flabby predominance), with the classification of hexsel (with severe predominance), type of Obesity (gynoid), and physical activity (sedentary); Left femur internal rotation with biotype (gynoid), and physical activity (sedentary); Geno valgo with type of obesity and physical activity. It is observed that they have strong correlation (0.7 <0.9), with the variables right inner internal rotation with Celluqol® correlation (affecting little quality of life), physical activity (physical inactivity); Left femur internal rotation with the type of FEG (flabby predominance); High Right Right Correlation Strong with FEG (Flacid) type and Genu Left Recuratum with FEG (Flacid) type correlation, Celluqol® (little quality of life). It is observed that they have moderate correlation (0.5 <0.7), the eias right right variables with hexsel classification, anteroversion with the hexsel classification, valgo with obesity type, description of "not complete agulation" with the type of obesity. Conclusion: It is concluded that postural changes, especially in the hip region, have an important association with the association of the FEG and its different levels of gravity. The objective of this research was to identify whether the use of exergames can help improve physical fitness through Burpee and analyse whether exergames can improve agility and spatial-temporal perception in young soccer players and non-players. This is a descriptive exploratory research with qualitative-quantitative data analysis. Participants were children (10.8 ± 1.8 years). For this sample, it was observed that exergames did not promote a significant increase in physical fitness (Group 1 x Group 2= 95%CI (-6.39--6.59), p> 1.00; Group 3 x Group 4= 95%CI (-1.27--3.47), p> 1.00). In contrast, exergames promoted a significant improvement in agility and spatiotemporal perception for group 2 (Agility Pre x Post: Z= -2.828; p= 0.05; Spatiotemporal perception Pre x Post: Z= -2.828; p= 0.05). We understand that exergames did not improve physical fitness in young soccer players and that they also did not provide improvements in agility or spatiotemporal perception. However, for the non-athlete public, there was a significant improvement in agility and spatial-temporal perception. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The aim of the present study was to estimate the chance of early sports specialization in a school population. A questionnaire on Early Specialization was prepared, and 830 practitioners of different modalities answered demographic data. Participants were recruited from public and private schools. The classification of early specialization was based on selfrating methods and the three-point system. Data analysis was performed using descriptive statistics, chi-square test and multinomial logistic regression analysis. The results showed that the chance for sports specialization by type of school is twice as high for public schools in the moderate (OR= 2.06; 95%CI 1.46--2.74) and high (OR= 1. 96; 95%CI 1.19--3.26) than private schools. The points system classified adolescents into levels: low, medium and high specialization, showing 61.8% (n= 495), 29.5% (n= 235), 8.7% (n= 70) respectively. Participants classified themselves as practicing a single (n= 405, 50.6%), or multiple sports (n= 396, 49.4%) through the self-classification system. Therefore, the chance of a student being specialized early is low, and the age variable was not determinant in influencing the specialization of students. However, sports specialization seems to be influenced by gender and school type. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: case tracking through COVID-19 screening tests is indispensable to control/delay the spread of the disease. Objective: to identify the incidence of COVID-19 through the positivity of rapid tests and associated factors in the population of the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. Methods: cross-sectional study, developed with 121,622 individuals notified and residing in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, from March to June 2020, from public domain data. For the analysis, positive results in COVID-19 rapid tests were considered. Bivariate analyses were performed to identify the association between the positive result in the rapid tests and demographic and clinical variables and the time elapsed between the onset of symptoms and the performance of the test. Likewise, odds ratios and their respective confidence intervals were calculated at the 95% level, and the p-value presented through the Wald method. Results: predominance of male individuals, 51%; in the age range of 20 to 39 years, 46,4%; and health professionals, 99,9%. Regarding the time elapsed between the onset of clinical signs and symptoms and diagnosis, 61,7% of the individuals who were tested up to 9 days after the onset of symptoms had a positive result. Sex, age group and time to test were associated with a positive result for the COVID-19 rapid test. Conclusion: it is important to minimize false-positive test results by choosing an assay with high specificity and testing populations and individuals in a timely manner. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: the literature already points out that the family is often the main obstacle that prevents elderly people from experiencing their sexuality. However, there are no studies that identify the effects of sexuality on family functioning. Objective: analyzing the effects of sexuality on family functionality and on the quality of life of the elderly. Materials and methods: a cross-sectional study conducted with 692 elderly people between the months of July and October 2020 by selfadministered instruments. Data were analyzed using the Kruskal-Wallis test, Pearson correlation and structural equation modeling. Results: the elderly with some degree of family dysfunction had a worse experience in sexuality and a worse quality of life. The affective relationships domain of sexuality was the only one to exert a positive effect, from moderate to strong magnitude on family functionality (PC=0.472 [CI95%=0.301-0.642] p<0.001). Quality of life, in turn, had a positive effect, from weak to moderate magnitude, in all domains of sexuality: sexual act (PC=0.339 [CI95%=0.190-0.488] p<0.001); affective relationships (PC=0.117 [CI95%=-0.041-0.275] p<0.001) and physical and social adversities (PC=0.150 [CI95%=0.074-0.226] p<0.001). Conclusion: sexuality among the elderly can be explored more frequently in health services, as it exerted positive effects on family functionality and quality of life in this population. It is expected that with the results of this study, there is an appreciation of the theme in care services and that sexuality in old age is explored with the elderly, especially in primary health care. Introduction: A sedentary lifestyle in adolescents contributes to the occurrence of different diseases, making it relevant to investigate associated factors. Objective: To analyze the association between sedentary lifestyle and socioeconomic status in adolescents from public schools. Materials and Methods: Cross-sectional study, carried out with 347 adolescents enrolled in public high schools in the city of Divinópolis, Minas Gerais. Data collection took place in 2017. Sedentary lifestyle was assessed using the International Physical Activity Questionnaire and socioeconomic status using the criteria of the Brazilian Association of Research Companies. Descriptive and analytical statistics were performed using a multivariate logistic regression model. Results: 347 adolescents participated in the investigation. The mean age of the group was 16.4 ± 1.0 years. Individuals characterized as sedentary constituted 38.9% of the sample, of which 66.7% were female. Having a higher socioeconomic level decreases the probability of being sedentary (OR=0.235; 95%IC: 0,069-0,803; p=0.021), just as being a student in public schools in the southwest region increases this chance (OR=2,68; 95%IC:1,370-5,239; p=0,04). Discussion: The reasons why socioeconomic conditions can influence a sedentary lifestyle are varied. The absence of public spaces can contribute to the increase in sedentary lifestyles in adolescents with lower socioeconomic status. Conclusion: This investigation highlights the importance of public investments in policies to encourage the practice of physical activity for adolescents, especially for females and lower socioeconomic status. STRUCTURAL equation modeling , *TRUST , *BUSINESS partnerships , *CONFIDENCE intervals - Abstract
The study aims to investigate the impact of relational risk management (GRR) on collaborative engagement (EC) with business partners and to test trust (CONF) as a mediator of this relationship. A survey was used, with an electronic questionnaire, applied to managers of companies. Data were analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling, operationalized through SmartPLS 3.2.6 software. The obtained results indicate that all items of the measurement model presented factor loadings greater than 0.72 and that the confidence intervals (IC- 95%) were significant, confirming the proposed model with indicators representing the constructs. The findings showed a positive and significant relationship between GRR and CONF with EC. As a contribution, it is demonstrated that risk management and trust are relevant aspects for partners to engage collaboratively, reinforcing the need to manage risks to maximize benefits generated with the relationship.
