Introduction: Widespread use of non-formulary drugs (NFD) increases cost and may reduce safety and rational use of medicines. The Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee provides guidance on drug prescription by evaluating and selecting medications to be included in a hospital's formulary based on best scientific evidence available and local patients' profile, promoting rational use of medicines. The objective of this study was to assess non-formulary drugs prescriptions at a tertiary hospital. Methods: This was a retrospective study. NFD prescribed and its associated costs were assessed through NFD request forms received from February 2016 to December 2021. Results: A total of 203 NFD request forms were received, from which 174 were included in this study. The most frequently prescribed NFD included rituximab (n = 41), immunoglobulin (31), sucralfate (23), nitazoxanide (12), and eltrombopag (7), with the highest costs being with immunoglobulin (US$ 799,702.38), rituximab (US$ 717,320.26), eltrombopag (US$ 281,062.50), ruxolitinib (US$ 167,867.46), and bortezomib (US$ 149,033.52). The most frequent requesting specialties were neurology (n = 47), hematology (30), infectious disease (17) and anesthesiology (12), and highest costs requests were from neurology (US$ 145,519.08), hematology (US$ 120,980.25), bone marrow transplant unit (US$ 51,635.11), and dermatology (US$ 44,813.40). Conclusion: This study showed that a structured request flow for NFD prescription is a critical procedure in order to better manage drug prescription within the hospital, promoting rational use of medicines and preventing unnecessary spending with drugs for which the clinical indication may be covered by a drug already in the hospital's formulary. The trend towards an increase in ADHD in childhood/adolescence is controversial, but the increase in drug prescription rates is undeniable. Given the role of health professionals in this process, their perspective on the diagnosis and intervention in this disorder is pivotal. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with eight physicians and eight psychologists, selected by non-probabilistic sampling methods. From the content analysis resulted that the spectrum of recommended therapies for ADHD is known and prescribed by professionals according to adequacy and efficacy criteria, in a weighted cost-benefit analysis. This process also has other actors responsible for signaling and referring cases (family and school) who, With easy access to services, they put on clinicians their expectations of a quick and effective resolution, which creates a process of social pressure for pharmacological prescription. Objective: To analyze the dressing prescriptions made by nurses and doctors regarding the clarity and suitability of the prescribed product to the characteristics of the wound, as well as to analyze the ethical implications of this context. Methods: Quantitative descriptive study, carried out in a university hospital in the Brazilian Midwest. The sample comprised 180 dressing prescriptions obtained from medical records of patients with wounds, and the characteristics of the wounds were collected using a checklist-type instrument. Results: 92.2% of the records had prescriptions for dressing. In 7.8% of the records there was no prescription for dressings. 93.9% of prescriptions were incomplete, and in 31.4% there was a divergence between nursing and medical prescriptions in the same daily record. In 32.3% there was no specification of the product to be used in the dressing. In 38.3% the prescription of the product was inadequate to the characteristics of the wounds. Conclusion: Weaknesses in dressing prescriptions that imply ethical infractions were evidenced. Antidepressants are one of the fastest growing classes of prescription drugs in the world and their effects on users' quality of life are still controversial. The aim of the study was verify the relationship between antidepressant use and self-rated health in a population aged 40 years or older. This was a population-based longitudinal study with adults of 40 years or older in a medium-sized municipality in Brazil with data collection in 2011 and 2015. The dependent variable was self-rated health (2015) and the independent the use of antidepressant medications, categorized as "used only in 2011", "used only in 2015", "used in 2011 and 2015" and "not used". The Poisson regression with robust variance was used to verify the association between antidepressant use and self-rated health. The study included 885 people. Negative self-rated health was present in 44% of the study population. The prevalence of antidepressant use was 17.6% over 4 years. The use of antidepressants was associated with negative self-rated health for individuals who were only using 2015 in the general population (PR 1.082; 95% CI 1.004-1.166). Objective: To analyze the use of drugs to prevent drug interference. Methodology: Descriptive cross study, retrospective, with quantitative documentary and mental analysis. Results: Sixty-two drug prescriptions were analyzed and 39 sub-drug groups were identified. The most prevalent drugs were diuretics, followed by antihypertensives and beta-blockers. We identified 729 doses of medications and 446 medications in 62 prescriptions analyzed. The mean number of doses per prescription was 11.7 and the average number of prescription medications was 7.1. The objective of this study was to discuss the use of drugs in patients submitted to enteral nutritional therapy. The study had a cross-sectional, observational design of a quantitative nature, in which 30 patients of both sexes, older than 18 years, were admitted to the emergency room of a public hospital in a city in the interior of São Paulo, who were using Nutritional Therapy Enteral, with drugs prescribed by the tube. In the results it was verified that of the total of drugs that were used, 42.85% presented some type of interaction with the nutrients of the diet, being 87.5% of negative interactions; 12.5% of positive interactions and 7.14% did not find any type of interaction. In conclusion, it was observed that there are numerous situations that can cause interactions between the prescribed drugs and the enteral diet, leading to nutritional and drug deficiencies, reducing the effectiveness of both, contributing to depletion of the patient's nutritional state and hindering its recovery. In dentistry, drug therapy plays an important role, with an emphasis on anti-inflammatory drugs. However, many surgeons - surgeons have difficulty in the correct selection of these medicines. From this reason, the literature review aims to clarify a simple and objective way, the group of medicines anti-inflammatory drugs, with a focus on selective COX-2 inhibitors, nimesulide first generation and second generation, celecoxibe and etoricoxibe. Also of nonselective COX-2 inhibitors, which include diclofenac, ibuprofen and naproxeno. This literature review used as a means of research, database of the Virtual Health Library (VHL), in LILACS and SciELO, PubMed, MEDLINE from 2000 to. In books and on the internet since most updated news notifications were found in the books as more scientific and detailed about it that finally helped develop the literature review base were found. The purpose of this study was to assess the quality of interdisciplinary medical-pharmaceutical interventions, from a cost-benefit analysis of the medical prescriptions of statins and fibrates in a state public health unit that dispenses specialized high-complexity drugs. This is a prospective longitudinal intervention study, involving 502 patients, of the period January-September 2009. Most prescriptions issued for the treatment of dyslipidemia in 2008 included atorvastatin (72.3%) and the annual cost of the drug was approximately R$ 1.9 million. In the cost-benefit analysis, 272 (54%) prescriptions indicated atorvastatin as the first therapeutic choice drug. After the interventions, 81% of the problems encountered were resolved, in general, by interdisciplinary medical-pharmaceutical actions. Objective. Determine patterns of antidepressive drug prescription in a group of patients affiliated with the General Social Security Health System in Colombia. Methods. Observational descriptive study of 9 881 patients, of both sexes and older than 5 years of age, medicated with antidepressants and continuously treated from August to October 2009. The patients include residents from 56 Colombian cities. A database was designed based on the consumption of medicines obtained from the company that distributes them to the patients. Results. The average age was 59.1 ± 16.1 years; 73.7% of the participants were women. Of the total number of patients, 83.3% were treated with monotherapy and 16.7% with two or more antidepressants. The order of the prescription of the medicines was: selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, 47.0%; atypical, 37.8%; tricyclical, 31.8%; selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors and norepinephrine, 1.8%; and selective norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors, 0.03%. The combinations most used were fluoxetine + trazodone (n = 1 029); amitriptyline + fluoxetine (n = 265); amitriptyline + trazodone (n = 122); fluoxetine + imipramine (n = 106); and imipramine + trazodone (n = 71). The most prescribed co-medications were anti-hypertensives (52.3%); thyroid hormones (23.3%); anti-inflammatories (19.6%); anti-epileptics (15.4%); anti-diabetics (13.8%); anti-anxiety and hypnotics (12.4%); antipsychotics (7.4%); anti-Parkinsons (4.3%); and anti-neoplastics (2.2%). Conclusions. The practice of prescribing medicines with a high therapeutic value predominates, mainly for antidepressive monotherapy. Most of the antidepressants are prescribed at dosages lower than those recommended. The purpose of this article is to evaluate statistically the relationship between the prescription of generic drugs (MG) and trademark drugs (MM) in Dental Medicine. There were contabilized 1053 medicines between January 1 and May 5,2008 and it was made bibliographic search in B-on and Pubmed. It was verified that dentists prescribed more MM (70%) than MG (30%); within the MM, they allowed the replacement of 68% by MG. Nowadays, stress is considered an illness that affects people in general, regardless their life cycle. However, mainly in adulthood, the family obligations and pressure at work increase the probability of stress. So, many techniques have been applied in order to ease the symptoms of stress such as psychotherapy, prescription of drugs, physical activities, and others. However, there are few systematic studies that confirm the effectiveness of those techniques to reduce stress. The present study compared the level of stress of 16 subjects after 12 months of regular physical activity. The level of stress was evaluated through a questionnaire containing the following items: (a) personal data; (b) quality of life inventory; (c) symptoms of stress inventory; (d) self-production of stress inventory 1 way of thinking; (e) self-production of stress inventory 2 way of acting; (f) attitudes questionnaire. The "t" student test was used as a statistical procedure. The results indicated a significant betterment of the symptoms of stress, suggesting a positive influence of regular physical activity to ease the stress-related illness among adults. The article presents a discussion on the promotion and advertising of drugs by the pharmaceutical industry. It is debated that controlled drugs can only be advertised and promoted to healthcare professionals who have the authority to prescribe such medicines. If these promotions reach medical and pharmacy students, they reportedly ought to be considered as unlawful.
