In view of the relevance of the theme of Organizational Citizenship Behaviors (OCC) in the business context, this study sought to identify the predominant OCB in a company in the retail and service sector. Thus, an empirical research was carried out, with a mixed approach that is, classified as qualitative and quantitative of a descriptive nature. Data were collected through the application of questionnaires and interviews. As for the results, the three analyzed factors of the CCO in the behavior of the collaborators were identified: "dissemination of the organizational image" and "cooperation with colleagues" and the manifestations encompassed in the factor "creative suggestions to the system" in a less expressive way. Purpose: Analyze the performance of Brazilian municipalities in the dimensions of the Accounting and Fiscal Information Quality Ranking in Siconfi (Ranking) and evaluate the perception of accounting professionals on the topic. Methodology: To analyze the performance of municipalities in the Ranking dimensions, data was collected on the website of the National Treasury Secretariat (https://www.tesourotransparente.gov.br/visualizacao/Ranking-da-qualidade-da-informacaocontabil-e-fiscal-state) relating to the years 2020 to 2023. To evaluate the perception of municipal accounting professionals on the topic, a structured questionnaire was applied with four questions, designed with the aim of capturing the perception of these professionals about the existence of the Ranking, the their knowledge of data relating to the municipalities in which they worked and any measures taken by the municipality to improve the score given by the STN. The Municipalities were contacted by the Call Center team of the National Confederation of Municipalities, duly instructed by the research team. Results: The research shows that Dimension IV (which compares the Declaration of Annual Accounts, the Accounting Balances Matrix and reports from the Fiscal Responsibility Law) presented the lowest percentage of correct answers in the three-year period, revealing problems in the consistency of this data when the information between different reports are compared. With the completion of the questionnaire, it was found that 40% of respondents were unaware of the Ranking and even among those who did not know it, 46% did not take actions to improve the municipality's placement in the Ranking, revealing the lack of interest of professionals or municipal managers about its importance in the context of accounting information quality indicators. Contributions of the Study: This article indicates the need to expand empirical research on the quality of municipal accounting data, seeking to improve the questions presented in the questionnaire, for example, by adding items that evaluate the improvement in the accounting system. The article aims to investigate validation in mathematical modelling activities with the objective of organizing a framework related to validation in these activities through data triangulation to give coherence and cohesion to the results. For the organization of the framework, a literature review regarding the theme is realized. In addition, an empirical research is carried out with students of a Mathematics Degree course. The gathering of empirical data and the theoretical structure allow to characterize understandings, the importance and ways of carrying out validation in mathematical modelling. Although it can be recognized as the final step in the modelling cycles, validation cannot be thought of as a cumulative process that only begins at the end of the activity and from which only acceptance or refutation results. Instead, it can act as an iterative agent and guide students' decision-making processes, and validation mechanisms can be activated at different stages of the activity. What can be concluded, therefore, is that, even if specific actions are recognized, it is in the validation of the totality of the modelling that the efficiency of validation resides as a means of generating reliability in what can be said about a situation of reality by using mathematics. Although there is a huge amount of research using the theory of conceptual fields, the concept of representation, central in cognitive psychology is still sparsely approached in them, because most of these works seems to focus on detecting operational invariants. In this article, we recover the notion of representation due to Gèrard Vergnaud and discuss the difference between this concept and the one of semiotic system, on the light of the theory of conceptual fields. We bring out the model of representation due to Vergnaud and we, then, present a relation between representation and reality sustained on this framework. We conclude discussing the applicability of this concept to empirical research, proposing lines of lines of investigation which can be fruitful for the research on conceptualization and reinterpreting old but persistent problems, like "conceptual change" and we display the importance of a developmental view on representation for Science and Mathematics Teaching. This theoretical article, anchored in bibliographical and empirical research, aims to demonstrate how the Twitter Platform, due to its functionalities and operating through algorithms, benefited Jair Bolsonaro's political project during the second round of the electoral campaign in 2022 in Brazil. Through his personal profile, the former president sought to capture the function of the press, benefiting from the news value of shareability and the value-algorithm, an automated way for the machine to categorize the relevance of content on the social network. The value-algorithm on Twitter played a crucial role in Jair Bolsonaro's populist reactionary ideological anchor speech, as it grouped his supporters to fuel permanent polarization. Social science research on courts and judges requires data that are typically generated through interviews, observation, or surveys for the purpose of answering specific research questions posed by the researcher. However, traditional methods of data collection are not always feasible. As an alternative, this paper examines the use of administrative data, which have been collected for non-research purposes, in judicial research. Using research undertaken by the author in Australia over the past decade as case studies, the paper examines potential sources of administrative data on courts and judges, how they can be acquired, and the uses to which they can be put. The paper then assesses the advantages and disadvantages of using administrative data, which vary substantially according to the data source. The paper concludes by agreeing with Babbie (2020) that ‘with so much data already collected, the lack of funds to support expensive data collection is no reason for not doing good and useful social research’ on judicial systems.

The articles in this special issue focus on the methodological and practical challenges of undertaking empirical research in judicial and/or court settings. They arose from a workshop at the International Institute for the Sociology of Law held on 23-24 June 2022 which discussed the empirical strategies to access and conduct research with judicial officers and the research methods and kinds of data used, including interviews, surveys, court observations, administrative data, documents, and photographs. The articles draw on the experiences of socio-legal researchers within the field, address the importance of linkages with the justice system and discuss a range of socio-legal insights, methodological approaches and methods from disciplines such as anthropology, law, political science, psychology and sociology.

Abstract The Theory of Intersectionality is an important contribution from feminist epistemologies to the scientific field. This narrative literature review aims to discuss methodological possibilities and challenges in producing and analyzing empirical evidence based on the Theory of Intersectionality, as well as its contributions to Psychology. While this theory is increasingly being cited as the basis for empirical research, articulating its assumptions in knowledge production processes is still a difficulty. Qualitative approaches prevail in the field, but advancements in statistical analysis methods allow for an intersectional interpretation in quantitative studies. Intersectionality contributes to understanding psychological processes and challenging dominant and exclusionary assumptions in the field of Psychology. Embracing this theory requires a commitment to the imperative of social transformation and entails placing claims, values, practices, and power relations at the core of scientific knowledge production, regardless of the field under study.

This article aims to introduce scholars of religion technical criteria so that they can classify their research into the three branches of the scientific study of religions. In the initial parts, the article presents the state of the question about taxonomies of the scientific study of religion in Brazil, defending the choice for Joachim Wach’s classification as updated by Matheus O. Costa. Furthermore, it presents Charles Peirce’s theory of science as a facilitator for understanding Wach’s branches of the study of religion. The branch of empirical studies of religion is explained by highlighting the inductive approach, the need for primary sources in research, and the delimitation by the study of a single religion or religious group at a time. The branch of the systematic study of religion is explained by deduction, the use of a review of secondary sources, the possibility of comparison between more than one religion, and the possibility of theorizing as the ultimate goal of the research. Finally, the branch of the applied study of religion is explained as the practical branch of the discipline, having as its goal the development of practical interventions and the application of the knowledge produced by the other two branches to solve concrete problems in society. LITERATURE reviews , *SCIENCE education , *SCIENTIFIC knowledge , *PERIODICAL articles , *VIRTUAL communities , *EMPIRICAL research - Abstract
In this paper we present a literature review study based on Brazilian articles in the area of Science Education that employ the construct of Epistemic Practices (EPs). The corpus is comprised by eighteen articles from journals classified as Qualis A1 or A2, published between 2008 and 2021. The analysis is based on the thematic foci of the studies, the definitions of EPs presented, the dialogue with the work of Gregory Kelly and the methodologies used. The results demonstrate that: i) the construct has been explored more frequently in studies that deal with Inquiry-based Science Teaching; ii) in addition to the definition of EPs, most national articles make use of other ideas conceived and supported by Kelly; iii) the most common aspect is that the construction of scientific knowledge within a community involves proposition, communication, evaluation and legitimation, and that the promotion of engagement in EPs should figure among the didactic objectives of science classes; iv) the analyzed production does not share theoretical-methodological references that guided Kelly's work on EPs, such as Interactional Ethnography. We argue that EPs have the potential to contribute to advances in discussions in the field of Science Education in Brazil in the sense of delimiting the assumptions of theories and empirical studies, as well as indicating new research directions and adding new members to the knowledge-producing community. The increasing importance of online user feedback is also influencing the film industry business. This work analyses the perceptions of film audience in Spain major using netnography. A total of 2187 opinions collected in a specialized film forum have been analyzed through factorial analysis of simple correspondences. The two dimensions obtained, together with the other results, show the importance of intrinsic variables. The first dimension allows to identify the personal action against the so-called environment. The second dimension contrasts positive perceptions against negative ones, allowing to detect market opportunities associated with a good soundtrack and a good plot. This second axis will also facilitate the detection of the worst rated films.

Governments adopted different approaches to deal with the pandemic, which – at a time when social relations have become ever more judicialized – inevitably triggered legal disputes. Central to these disputes were restrictive measures such as lockdown for non-essential businesses, shelter-in-place and stay-at-home orders for communities, and compulsory quarantine for infected individuals. These disputes were further entangled with political conflict and polarization, as the case of Brazil under President Jair Bolsonaro well exemplifies. Against such backdrop, this article investigates: Did Brazilian legal professionals view those restrictive measures and the power of government entities to enact them to be consistent with ‘the law’? What explains variation in their views? By exploring data from rapid research carried out during the pandemic outbreak in Brazil, this article points to the role of variables such as pandemic understandings and experiences, political orientation and attitudes, and the nexus between legal knowledge and the State in shaping the attitude of such population. The implications to studies on legal professionals, pandemics, and the rule of law in Brazil and beyond are discussed.

COMMUNICATION in marketing , *CREATIVITY in advertising , *MARKETING , *ADVERTISING effectiveness , *EMPIRICAL research - Abstract
There is a discussion as to the direction of creativity in the context of advertising, because when aimed at winning prizes, the proposal of marketing communication can be harmful or contradictory. Thus, this exploratory empirical study compared campaigns considered creative, awarded at the Cannes Lions festival 2016, against the determinant criteria of creativity and advertising effectiveness found in the literature, as well as with merely informative campaigns, measuring the recall. To this end, the study was structured in nine stages, gathering mixed data, with a quantitative and qualitative approach. The results show that some awarded pieces are not effective in terms of remembering, but that creativity, when well contextualized, will not be decoupled from market efficiency. Dropping out of students before completing a course, known as evasion, is a frequent problem that causes loss of resources, time, and social impact. Therefore, it is extremely important to identify and analyze the factors that lead to dropout in technical courses. This study aims to investigate the main reasons that influence the dropout of students in technical computer courses at IFPB campus Campina Grande. For this, a questionnaire was created with the aim of knowing the profile of the dropout students and the reasons that led them to enter and leave the course. A total of 57 responses were obtained from a total of more than 150 students who dropped out in the last 10 years of technical courses in the area of information technology. The results suggest that the motivation for entering and dropping out of this type of education differs from the reasons for dropping out of higher education. Factors such as emotional state, personal or family problems, and difficulty in learning certain subject contents are among the most recurrent factors cited for student dropout. On the other hand, the ease of entering the market, interest and skills, the possibility of studying and working, and professional advancement are among the most recurrently cited for students to enroll in information technology technical courses. In Portugal, after the 2017 rural fires, where 117 human lives were lost and an estimated 1,5 billion euros in damages, the Portuguese government moved forward with the creation of legislation to promote the implementation of self-protection programs in rural communities. Thus 2018, the "Safe Village, Safe People" programs emerged. These programs are not unprecedented in Portugal, as in 2006, as a reactive measure to the fires of 2005, the now-defunct Directorate-General of Forest Resources created a program called Safe Villages, which, despite the initiative, fell far short of expectations and was eventually abandoned. This investigation aims to identify the obstacles that arose during the initial implementation phase, analyze the innovations introduced by the Municipal Services in adapting these programs, and highlight the positive aspects, weaknesses, challenges, and future perspectives of the programs under analysis. The methodology to achieve these objectives involved obtaining testimonials and insights from the Municipal Civil Protection Office of Góis technicians. These testimonials represent the practical knowledge of this municipal entity, providing information about crucial elements, challenges, and anticipations of future obstacles related to implementing the Aldeia Segura and Pessoas Seguras programs. This empirical research revealed great difficulty in promoting the adherence of local associations and populations. There was also some mistrust about the responsibilities that rural communities can assume. Even so, the intervention that the commissions/improvement associations have provided is of great importance to support the implementation of these programs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The article has a descriptive character and intends to contribute to research in the theological area, expanding the possibilities of qualitative methods. The word method comes from the Greek methodos, which means to follow the path to an end. The term indicates a scientific investigation, delineated, and systematized with the objective of producing new knowledges, discussing and/or integrating with existing ones. It can be seen that in research at the stricto sensu level, instruments of data collection through empirical studies are frequent in the field of Human Sciences, but not always common in the theological field. Among the existing powerful qualitative methods, the article addresses phenomenological investigation in its epistemology and exemplifies the work of the author in her doctoral thesis. It describes the phenomenological method through intus legere experience, which indicates reading from within human experiences. It explains the development of narrative interviews and details the exploration and systematization of the findings by means of discursive textual analysis as coherent with the phenomenological attitude. The article presents as a digital tool resource, the ATLAS.ti software. It is an optimizing support for qualitative research. It concludes by emphasizing that the complexity of theological contemporaneity is abundant in possibilities of original scientific elaborations by expanding in empirical research the theoretical foundations, especially with digital technological facilitators. It concludes by encouraging new researchers in the theological field to develop the novelty of their authorships in the course of qualitative phenomenological research. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

SCHOOL dropouts , *EMPIRICAL research , *RESEARCH personnel , *REGRESSION analysis , *QUANTITATIVE research - Abstract
Undergraduate Physics courses has one of the highest dropout rates in Brazilian universities. To face this problem, it is necessary a deep understanding of the causes that lead students to withdraw or persist in their undergraduate courses. Despite empirical research, the validation of a theoretical model that explains dropout and student persistence in the Brazilian context is a current challenge for researchers in the field. In this paper, we evaluate the suitability of the Tinto's Persistence Motivation Model, developed in the United States of America, to represent the scenario of an undergraduate Physics course at a Brazilian public university. We carried out a quantitative study from data collected with a questionnaire answered by 168 undergraduate students. The questionnaire brings up statements related to the predictors of student persistence according to the Tinto model (academic self-efficacy, sense of belonging and perception of curricular relevance) and the self-declared intention of persistence. Statistically significant correlations were identified between all constructs, endorsing the theory proposed by Tinto. The linear regression model was able to predict 37% of the variance of intention to persist. This indicates that the model partially represents the investigated setting. New studies must be done to identify other aspects that impact student persistence in the investigated context. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

SCIENTIFIC knowledge , *SYSTEMS theory , *MODERN society , *LEGAL research , *EMPIRICAL research - Abstract
This paper explores the possibility of integrating theory and empiricism in scientific production and knowledge within the field of Law, utilizing Niklas Luhmann's Theory of Systems as a foundation. The study proposes to consider the concept of abstraction control as a means to apply Systems Theory, aiming to analyze empirical data and observe and describe law as a system within modern society. The study emphasizes the need to articulate theory and empiricism in legal scientific production, emphasizing the understanding and application of abstraction and abstraction control concepts. This enables the recognition of two conflicting approaches on mechanisms for observing reality. The theoretical foundation of this work includes scholars such as Niklas Luhmann, Barros, and Fonsceca, who have contributed to reinforcing the perspective of abstraction control as a way to apply Luhmann's systems theory in empirical research. This approach combines epistemic and theoretical concerns with methodological tools in the context of empirical research in law. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

HATE speech , *DIGITAL technology , *FOCUS groups , *SOCIAL context , *EMPIRICAL research - Abstract
This article presents a qualitative study that examines hate speech (HS) from the perspectives of the most representative minority communities in Portugal, namely Afro-descendants, Roma, and LGBTQ+. The empirical research employed three focus groups, each with a representation of these communities (n=17), with the primary goal of investigating how members of these groups perceive and experience HS within the Portuguese social and geopolitical context. The results indicate that covert HS can be more detrimental than overt HS since the targeted individuals are often caught off guard and unsure how to respond, contributing to the continuation of systems of oppression and social decline. Additionally, our qualitative data show that covert forms of HS often manifest in the form of compliments and humour, common in various settings, such as the workplace, the media, and the online environment. These devices are communicative strategies anchored in both positive and negative stereotypes and may lead to the normalization of HS in Portuguese society. In this regard, this research draws attention to the significance of identifying covert forms of HS and devising strategies, such as counter-speech, to debunk them. Furthermore, it highlights the need for automatic detection of covert HS since these forms are prevalent in digital platforms. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

From the question about the absence of girls in research that turns to juvenile cultures hegemonically dominated by boys, the article discusses the possibilities of articulation between the fields of gender and youth studies. To this end, in addition to resuming empirical research by the author himself, a meta-analysis of narrative review of academic literature in the field of youth studies is performed, especially ethnography, which, in some way, worked intersecting with gender issues. The objective is, based on the analysis of studies of hegemonically male youth cultures, to investigate the implications, for the research and its final results, of the specificities of the encounter between the representations of sex and gender of those who research and who lead the studied juvenile cultures.
