The research carried out in Scientific Initiation (IC) encourages the investigation of solutions to impasses in several areas of knowledge and, among these areas, environmental sustainability, which has been widely debated in recent years. Thus, the general aim is to analyze the history of Scientific Initiation Plans, in a public Higher Education Institution (IES), in research in Environmental Sustainability, between 2006 and 2021. An analysis and selection protocol were followed in the titles of the IC plans, registered in the database of the Division of Scientific Initiation. Data analysis, with the predominant use of descriptive statistics, identified 4,374 plans, with only 400 plans addressing environmental sustainability, that is, 9.14%. Most belong to the Engineering, Biological and Agricultural areas (50.76%) with an approach in several thematic axes, with waste (20.91%) being the most highlighted in the research. Among the modalities, PIBIC stands out (54.75%), which includes a scholarship provided by CNPq and IES. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The maintenance of health depends very much on the quality of basic sanitation services that are provided to the population. The services of treated water, collection, treatment of sewage, handling of solid waste and rainwater are indispensable factors for a country to be considered developed. In view of the economic scenario that Brazil has been facing in recent years, basic sanitation has been the most impaired sector of its infrastructure. Even with the achievements that Brazil has had in recent years in several sectors, sanitation is still far from being one of these achievements, and continues to be abandoned by successive governments. Most Brazilian municipalities need to implement municipal planning in the area of sanitation, in order to be able to improve the service of this type of service. The final disposal of sewage is a health issue for the ecosystem and for the population. The objective of this study is to analyze if there is a relationship between the number of inhabitants and the absence of sanitary sewage collection in the municipalities of the Center-West of Brazil. Thus, this study approaches the Brazilian situation in terms of sanitary sewage, analyzes and identifies if there is any relationship between the number of inhabitants and the absence of sewage collection in the municipalities of the Center-West of Brazil, through a quantitative approach where the variables pass by statistical tests, and the hypotheses for confirmation were formulated, with data extracted from the Ministry of Cities in the calendar year of 2016. The explanatory variable of the survey was the number of inhabitants of each municipality of the Center-West (NH) and the variable explained was the percentage of absence of sanitary sewage collection (% AES), where it showed a negative and significant relation of 1%, confirming the hypothesis of the study, and corroborating previous studies, the constant presented a positive and significant relation to 1% with the dependent variable. Therefore, it is observed that there is no relationship between the number of inhabitants and the absence of sanitary sewage collection in the municipalities of the Center-West of Brazil.
