- Abstract
The objective of this investigation is to explore the knowledge and perceptual convergences between students and coordinators from different educational programs in the Guanajuato Campus in the University of Guanajuato (Mexico) in relation to Corporate Social responsibility (CSR) and University Social responsibility (USR). This is a qualitative investigation which has students as its focal groups and focus groups along with in depth interviews with the coordinators. The main results of this investigation reflect that students and coordinators have some knowledge about the concepts of CSR and USR and at the same time identify actions which are related to diverse contexts and mainly oriented towards environmental issues and social actions. They are also able to identify voluntary and compulsory activities that could be considered within the CSR framework as well as dependent and independent activities by the University; the motivations for implementing them which are related to tangible and intangible benefits and oriented towards management. The coordinators recognize the importance of USR and its contribution to student training. In general there is a shared concern about ethics and recognition for the need of greater involvement and integration of USR in the agendas of the institutional decision makers. Finally from the results of the investigation, a model that warns of the existence of USR is generated which has developed at different levels among students and is oriented towards environmental concerns and society.
