The article discusses Hume's political thought and its relationship with modern political thought. The author highlights the uniqueness of Hume's political thought in relation to the contractualist tradition, emphasizing the role of history and the social field in the formation of the legal-political order. In addition, the author points out the precedence of jurisprudence over the theory of justice in Hume. However, it is questioned whether there is a "Humean way of thinking" that goes beyond political moderation. [Extracted from the article]

Purpose: This study aims to investigate the role of fiscal council as a mechanism capable of changing the manager's ability to influence audit fees. Methodology: 231 observations of publicly-held companies that traded their shares on [B]? in 2017 were analyzed. To investigate the relationship object of this study, an analysis was performed using multiple linear regression with the OLS estimator. Results: In the analyzed sample, it was identified that managers' overconfidence increases audit costs, which is consistent with the argument that managers' overconfidence can increase the risk of material error. However, possibly due to characteristics of the emerging environment or different levels of efficiency of the fiscal council, it was not possible to confirm the hypothesis that the fiscal council exerts a significant influence on the relationship between manager overconfidence and audit fees. Study Contributions: In the empirical field, this research provides subsidies for investors and regulators regarding the role of governance mechanisms - more specifically the fiscal council - in the relationship between the auditor and the client. From a theoretical perspective, the accounting literature is added to fill in the existing gap about the consequences of behavioral biases of managers on the audit fees under the moderation of the supervisory board. SKEPTICISM , *COMMON sense , *MODERATION , *HYPOTHESIS - Abstract
The paper states a hypothesis concerning Thomas Reid's moderation in his reply to skepticism. It is initially argued that commonsense beliefs, though due to reliable faculties, are doubtful, fallible, and correctable. They are not completely immune to skeptical attack. It is further argued that Reid intends to reply only to one form of skepticism, the partial one - the skepticism of authors who accept at least one mental faculty as a reliable source of knowledge. Reid does not intend to argue with the skeptic who equally denies his assent to the reliability of all faculties - that is, the radical skeptic. This radical form of skepticism is harmless to practical life and philosophy and, for that reason, is not a threat. Finally, the hypothesis advanced is discussed considering other interpretations of Reid's reply to skepticism. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper analyzes false stories about Covid-19 from an infrastructure approach. Thus, we study clone websites that copy YouTube to re-platform the informational environment and spread confusing and sensationalist videos making it difficult to enforce content moderation policies. The empirical research samples 16 video hosting websites and 11,384 link posts on Facebook groups and pages. We apply procedures of digital and computational methods designed to analyze fake news in a scenographic way and techniques for identifying coordination of activity inauthentic. We find clone sites that manipulate press videos by adding sensationalist or false information. The operation articulates the spread of videos in an organized manner by instrumentalizing religion, entertainment, political, and news groups on Facebook. In the remainder of the paper, we discuss the implications for tackling disinformation with a focus on cross-platform interaction. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract This study aims to analyze the moderating power of time of unemployment in the relationship between work values and psychological well-being. The sample consisted of 265 unemployed individuals, 77 men and 188 women with an average age of 27 years (SD = 7.21), with complete secondary education in 48% of the total sample. The following data collection instruments were applied: Positive and Negative Affect Schedule, the Flourishing Scale and the Work Intrinsic Values Scale. The results of hierarchical regression analyses show that time of unemployment acts as a moderator in the relationship between the work values and the psychological well-being, so that the longer the unemployment duration the greater the individual’s psychological well-being. Consequently, the shorter the period of unemployment, more intense is the feeling of negative emotions. The result yield three important contributions: demonstration of the association between work values and psychological well-being of unemployed; identification that the period of unemployment is an important moderator to understand the unemployed well-being and review of the issue of unemployment in the social and political field in times of recession.

12. Plato’s Theory of the Arts in the Gorgias and in the Republic

This paper examines Socrates’ theory of the arts in the Gorgias and in the Republic. It shows how that theory changes, as the discussion takes focus first in relation to moderation, then to justice, where it is tied to the idea of a techne of rule, to notions of virtuous work and civic health, and to five levels of ‘art’ represented in the cave. It argues that both Socrates’ vision of a scientific and benevolent political art and Thrasymachus’ sophistic theory of tyrannical rule are undercut in the dialogue, the former by doubts concerning the epistemic closure it seems based on, the latter by the tyrant’s character, which impels him toward self-destructive government.

This work aims to analyze the passions of affection among elderly couples in relation with specific forms of life that are opposed to images and imagery of the figurative and visual manifestation of old age. For this purpose, we take the project by Ari Seth Cohen entitled Advanced Love (2018), which portrays and interviews representative couples of different aesthetic tastes, reproducing in clothing, corporeality and in their speeches a sensitive sharing of life in common embodied in various materialities. The photographed set initially places the assumption of a debate that divides the subjects by the triad of excess, golden mean and deficiency. Historically, the middle way appears as the mark of balance, common sense and good taste (or good tone), as Aristotle already stated in The Nicomachean Ethics, referring to various segments of life. In the examined empirical, this unified view of "good taste" or "good sense" that should be shared by the elderly is broken. On the contrary, Cohen's project obliges us to rethink them in terms that supplant the social adaptations of love and the ways in which they come together and points to a modulated and coexistent encounter. The theoretical-analytical reasoning of the corpus approach is articulated with postulates of discursive semiotics in some of its unfolding: figurative and plastic analysis of the image, studies of interactional practices and forms of life in its various instances of integration - signs, strategies, practices and lived experiences. This paper studies the influence of debriefing in the learning of the participants of business games. Through quasi-experimental study we examined the self-declarations of 112 undergraduate Business Management students undertaking the 8th term, divided into two groups: experimental, exposed to debriefing; and control, not exposed to the debriefing. MannWhitney´s tests revealed that the quantum of learning perceived by the members of the experimental group was statistically significantly higher than the members of the control group in seven out of nine learning variables assessed (p < 0.05). The average effect size (d = 0.45) shows an average improvement of 18%. These results suggested that the debriefing positively influence on experiential learning cycle promoted by business games. In the perspective of Kolb’s experiential learning cycle (Kolb, 1984), our findings suggest that Reflective observation and Abstract conceptualization stages can be reinforced by subsequent debriefing activities to the simulation rounds, in order to enhance continuous processes of action and reflection of the participants, according to the spiral experiential learning cycle.

Intruduction: The comorbidity between depression and social anxiety is high in adolescence. Parental emotion socialization behaviors have been associated with the development of social skills and depressive symptomatology. Objectives: This study aims to explore the moderating effect of parenting styles on the relationship between social anxiety and depression, to study the associations between them, and to analyze the relationship between parenting styles, social anxiety and depressive symptomatology in adolescents. Methods: The sample consisted of 122 parents and their children. Self-report instruments were used to assess social anxiety, depressive symptomatology and parenting styles. Results: It was found that social anxiety is significantly associated to depression and that the former has a predictive effect on the latter. The parenting styles revealed no significant associations with either depressive symptomatology or with social anxiety, but a moderating effect of explorer parenting style was found in the relationship between social anxiety (public performance) and depressive symptomatology. Conclusions: The present investigation confirmed the existence of a significant association between social anxiety and depressive symptomatology in adolescence and suggests an effect of parental practices of emotional socialization in this relation, which, however, should be replicated in future research. It will also be important to study the effect of parenting styles on children's emotional regulation skills and their possible mediating effect on the relationship between social anxiety and depression.

- Abstract
Complex models, such as mediation and moderation, are essential for comprehending psychological variables. Nevertheless, during the testing of such models, the structure and reliability of the instruments might affect the estimated relationship between variables. Thus, models of mediation and moderation that correct the parameters yielding error estimates are fundamental. The objective of this study is to compare the performance of three Structural Equation Modeling models that include mediation and moderation effects: Random slopes, latent interactions and path analysis. The three models were compared using both simulated and real data. The results showed that when the variance contained in the slopes is small, both the random slopes model and the latent interaction model are equivalently good. The path analysis model, on the other hand, performs well to recover the effects of moderation, but it underestimates the direct and indirect effects of mediation. Best practices for testing hypotheses with complex effects are discussed, and we suggest using latent models for testing mediation and moderation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

ABSTRACT: Victimization experiences during childhood and adolescence have an impact on individuals development and behavior. Exposure to violence is more prone to happen in childhood, because children have a fragile structure and are dependente on others. On the other hand, literature shows that adolescents who have been victims of crime, like child maltreatment, theft, cyberbullying, hate crime, assault or robbery, have a higher likehood to offend. However, as defended by several authors, the family has an important role in deterring delinquent behavior in young people, through parental supervision and the establishment of affective bonding. The present study hopes to determine whether parental supervision or affective bonding have a moderating effect on the relationship between polyvictimization and juvenile delinquency, as well as which of these variables have the greatest protective force in this relationship. In this sudy, which includes schooling data from Portugal, there are 2315 adolescents (1103 boys and 1212 girls), who attend from 7th to 12th year of schooling. In this context, a self-report instrument, ISRD3, was used to access polyvictimization, juvenile delinquency, parental supervision and affective bonding. The results show the existence of a significant moderating effect on the relationship between poly-victimization from parental supervision and affective bonding. Despite both variables having a moderating effect, their strength decrease when the victimization experiences increase, Although, affective attachment shows to have a lower protective strength. In other words, parental supervision proves to be the factor with the greatest impact on the link between polyvictimization and Delinquency.

- Abstract
In the text, we put the category of differences as anthropological-ontological and epistemological-moral contemporary ethos and praxis which challenge-streamline institutionalized and universalist religions, for example the Catholic Church, in their use of essentialist and naturalized foundations as normative-paradigmatic basis for framing, legitimation and orientation of these differences, as basement for the dialectics between plurality and unity regarding these differences. From that, we will argue that the institutionalized and universalist religions' central challenge - and, in our case again, the Catholic Church's central challenge - consists in the deconstruction of the correlation among strong institutionalism, strict anthropological-ontological and epistemological-moral objectivity and political-normative fundamentalism. In this sense, as long as religious institutions bring the differences as normative praxis and epistemological-political subjects into their internal dynamic of constitution, legitimation and social foment of the creed, it is possible to achieve the weakening and the moderation - and perhaps the own abandonment - of the essentialist and naturalized foundations as basis for framing of all areas of human life. Anyway, as we think, this must be the case for gender and sexuality, which could not and should not be grounded on such an essentialist and naturalized basis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
I will defend that institutionalized and universalist religions, like Catholic Church, can abandon - or at least relativize - their speeches, values and controls on gender and sexuality, in that they can serve as basis to the facing of all forms of violence against gender and sexuality, many of them based on the interpretation of sacred texts. This means that religious institutions in general and Catholic Church in particular will need to renounce to essentialist and naturalized foundations concerning this current field of human life, letting questions of gender and sexuality as irremediable part of private life, that is a fundamental conquest of Western modernization and of democracies based on it, characterized by institutional secularization, individual freedom and pluralism of lifestyles. This abandonment or discursive moderation about gender and sexuality could enable a very important renovation to religious institutions and, in the truth, as I think, it is the way par excellence that they must take on in the 21st century. Introduction: the practice of physical activity (PA) should be encouraged for children from preschool age, however most children do not meet the existing PA practice recommendations, which can cause damage to health. Theoretical models hypothesize the relationship between PA and Fundamental Motor Skills (FMS), with the participation of other intervening factors in this relationship, such as physical fitness (PF) and body weight status. Objective: to investigate the associations between physical activity and fundamental motor skills in preschoolers, considering physical fitness and body weight status as possible intervening variables. Methods: this thesis led to the production of a cross-sectional study (n=84, 4.35±0.77 years) and an intervention study (n=72, 4.19±0.94 years) with preschool-age children. AF was measured using accelerometry. The FMS were evaluated from the Test of Gross Motor Development – 2nd edition (TGMD-2). Physical fitness was measured from the Field-Based Physical FitnessTest Battery in Preschool Children (PREFIT Battery) and the body weight status was represented by the Body Mass Index (BMI) (body mass/height²). In the cross-sectional study, linear regression was applied with analysis of moderation and mediation, respectively, considering a significance level of

Incivility in the workplace corresponds to an emerging topic in the field of workplace aggression. One of the possible consequences of this type of experience corresponds to the occurring of burnout. Thus, and according to the guidelines proposed by the Job Demand-Resources Model, this study seeks to understand the moderating role of control over work and organizational trust, in the relationship between incivility and burnout and the respective dimensions of the syndrome. The present study involved 562 workers from a public organization. Regarding the moderations tested in this study, the results obtained were partially verified. In both models, control over work and organizational trust proved to be two essential resources for reducing burnout. Subsequently, it is elucidated the limitations of the present study and possible future investigations.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to explore the influence of project management offices (PMO) in non-governmental organizations (NGOs), in fundraising linked to projects, under the theoretical lens of the resource-based view. Design/methodology/approach Through a longitudinal analysis ex post facto study in a non-profit civil association, the authors examined by Mann-Whitney’s U tests the results before (2003-2008) and after (2009-2014) PMO implementation, to check if the office moderated the relationship between project management and fundraising for projects. Findings Mann-Whitney’s U tests showed that PMO had, in those periods, a statistically significant influence in increasing the number of projects and decreasing the mean value of their budgets (p-value Originality/value Despite the wide range of studies on the contribution of PMOs to internal project management, there is a lack of empirical evidence on their moderation capacity, especially in NGOs. To fill this research gap, this study investigates the moderating role of PMO in NGOs, by examining their performance on fundraising processes, to contribute to a better understanding of potential PMO effects, particularly as a moderator of the relationship between project management and projects’ fundraising.

This dissertation, whose subject deals with sexism in the work environment, has the objective of investigating the impact of the participants sex (male or female), the evaluator sex (male or female), and the evaluated sex (male or female) in the perception of justice of a professional evaluation in which hiring does not occur, and to evaluate the moderating role of sexism in this relationship. Three studies were conducted, arranged in two articles, in order to reach this objective. The first article, which brought together Studies 1 and 2, aimed to develop a measure of sexism specific to the work environment that is valid for the Brazilian context. For Study 1, participated 398 students from two public northeast Brazilian universities, with a mean age of 22.69 years (SD = 6.56) and a majority of females (52%). Participants answered a scale composed of 37 items formulated by the authors and with items adapted from other scales. The results indicated that a two-factor solution, composed of 16 items, is the most adequate. In addition, both factors of the instrument showed a positive correlation with the factors of the Ambivalent Sexism Inventory of Glick and Fiske. In Study 2, the instrument was tested in a sample of 412 students from two public northeast Brazilian universities, with a mean age of 22.84 years (SD = 6.39) and a majority of females (52.7%), to verify the confirmation of the factorial structure. The results indicate that the structure found was adequate (χ²/gl = 3,31, GFI = 0,91, CFI = 0,92, RMSEA = 0,075). Article 2 aimed to investigate the impact of the participants sex (male or female), the evaluator sex (male or female), and the evaluated sex (male or female) in the perception of justice of a professional evaluation in which hiring does not occur, and to evaluate the moderating role of sexism in this relationship. To achieve this objective, an experimental study was carried out with a 2 x 2 x 2 factorial design, quantitative approach and transversal temporal cut. A total of 256 students from a public northeast Brazilian university, with a mean age of 22.84 years (SD = 6.39) and a majority of females (51.3%), were randomly assigned to the four experimental conditions. The results indicate that sexism is able to moderate the relationship between the sex of the participants, the gender of the evaluator and the agreement with the decision of not hiring (the measure of discrimination), but this relationship does not occur when the variable Sex Evaluator is replaced with the variable Sex of the Evaluated. Broadly speaking, the more sexist men tended to agree more with the discrimination proffered by a male evaluator. Taken together, these results indicate that sexism is still prevalent in the labor context, and that its negative effect is associated both with its hostile and benevolent forms.

This study proposes that Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activity may positively influence consumers prosocial behavior. However, this effect is moderated by the consumer-brand social distance. In two experiments, we show that consumers close to the brand become more prosocial in situations unrelated to the cause supported by the company when they are exposed to the brands prosocial communication, compared to those who are distant from the brand. This paper contributes to furthering CSR theory by showing the positive effects of brand CSR initiatives on secondary social outcomes, such as consumers volunteering and donating money to a social cause not closely related to the one promoted by the company. Besides, this paper also contributes theoretically by showing the moderation role played by consumer-brand social distance. Important implications for the role of CSR are useful for companies and society in general, since the paper demonstrates that brands prosocial behavior can influence consumers prosocial behavior beyond the brand context only. A intervenção psicossocial junto desta população clínica deve promover a auto-eficácia e o suporte social percebido destes utentes. Chronic pain a multidimensional experience influenced by different biological (e.g. pain etiology, stage of the condition), psychological (e.g. humor, beliefs, coping strategies), social (e.g. social support) and spiritual (e.g. hope, optimism, forgiveness) variables. It is hypothesized that pain etiology has a relevant role in the experience of pain and its impact. Pain etiology might have a moderating role in the association between psychosocial factors and measures of adjustment to pain. This study aims at testing a moderation model of pain etiology in such association. The 202 adult participants with chronic musculoskeletal pain of different etiologies completed measures of pain, psychological adjustment, self-efficacy and perceived social support. Self-efficacy and perceived social support were positively and significantly associated with measures of psychological adjustment, and negatively correlated with measures of pain. Pain etiology was not a statistically significant moderator of the association between the study measures. Results confirm the relevance of self-efficacy and perceived social support in pain experience regardless of its etiology. Psychosocial intervention programs directed to this clinical population should promote these psychosocial factors of these patients.

Building on the social identity approach and the HRM literature, this two-wave cross-sectional study examined the effects of negative age-based metastereotypes on the age-based stereotype threat experience of older workers and on organizational disidentification. The moderator role of HRM practices in the relationship between negative age-based metastereotypes and age-based stereotype threat was also investigated. Older workers survey results (n = 469) from 14 manufacturing companies indicated that negative age-based metastereotypes correlate positively with stereotype threat. Moderation results showed that age-awareness HRM practices (training for older workers) reinforced age-based stereotype threat, whereas general HRM practices (recognition and respect) impaired it. The article suggests that the combination of age-based metastereotypes with a stereotype threat framework contributes to further understand older workers' beliefs and attitudes. It also indicates that to be effective, HRM practices should emphasize positive social identities older workers share with their colleagues, rather than giving older workers special treatment that may, after all, reinforce stigmatization.

In work settings there are organizational rules that influence emotional expression and management. Therefore, workers frequently must follow specific rules while interacting with customers, which imply that workers adopt emotional labor strategies to meet organizational goals. Consequentially, emotional labor strategies may cause both positive and negative consequences in the professionals. Therefore, this study has the aim to assess associations between emotional intelligence, emotional labor, organizational trust and occupational stress, and more specifically to test if the emotional labor strategies and organizational trust can me moderators in the prediction of stress. The study had the total participation of 417 salaried and non-salaried firefighters from different Portuguese corporations. Significant positive correlations were found between emotional intelligence and organizational trust with emotional labor, and significant negative correlations were found between organizational trust and stress, and also between emotional intelligence and stress. Regarding the moderation analyzes, it was verified that emotional labor strategies and organizational trust are significant positive and negative predictors, respectively, of occupational stress.

Dissertação de Mestrado Integrado em Psicologia apresentada à Faculdade de Psicologia e de Ciências da Educação Depression has a long-term character and is associated with signif-icant functional losses and a reduction in the long-term quality of life. It has been recognised that adolescents are just as susceptible as adults to depression and it is a disturbance that should be taken seriously in all age groups. There is a wide range of factors that make human beings vulnerable to the development of depression, which include low quality familiar relationships characterized by low levels of support and the life dissatisfaction. As such the actual longitudinal study intends to explore the mod-erator effect of life satisfaction in the association between the quality of parents/childrens relationship assessed at the first moment and the depression in adolescence at the second moment (six months later). The community sample is composed by 534 adolescents, with ages ranging between 13 and 17 years. The following instruments were used to study the previously mentioned variables: 1) Children Depres-sive Inventory (CDI: Kovacs, 1983; portuguese version: Marujo, 1994); 2) Inventory of the Inventory of the Quality of Interpersonal Relations (Pierce, Sarason, & Sarason, 1991; portuguese version: Marques, Matos, & Pinheiro, 2014; Marques, Pinheiro, Matos, & Marques, 2015) and 3) Adolescent - Longitudinal Interval Follow-up Evaluation (A -LIFE: Kel-ler et al., 1993; portuguese version: Matos & Costa, 2011).The perception of support and conflict in the relationship with parents were found to be significant preditors of depressive symptomatology, as the life satisfaction, in the total sample. Moderator effects were found in a total sample, for the life satisfaction in relation between perception of support and conflitct in relaionship with mother and depressive symptomatology.

Abstract The price level, perceived value and commitment may impact repurchase intentions. In this sense, this study, based on a literature review, identified that the perception of price level, value and affective and normative commitment may interfere with repurchase intentions. From this theoretical assumption, this research first aimed to analyze the impact these constructs have on the repurchase intention of two different brands of smartphones; second, to identify the moderation brand has on the relations from the theoretical model; and third, to identify the mediation effect on the perceived value of price and repurchase intention. Nine of the ten proposed hypothesis were supported by this study of 732 smartphone consumers. Another contribution of this research refers to the mediating roles brand and perceived value have on repurchase intention.

Culture has become one of the fastest growing sectors in post-industrial economies. To know its function and to expand its performance as a factor of inflow in the economy will allow us to improve living conditions, favoring the better organization of productive processes and access to cultural goods. Internationalizing means considering different levels of relationship and business execution, from the buying and selling of products and services to investment in assets in other countries (direct investment and portfolio investment). Soft power is included in this discussion because of its potential to give a country an internationalization strategy with regard to cultural products. The main objective of the study is to analyze the influence of soft power as a moderating variable in the internationalization of Brazilian cultural products. The development of explanatory models on the internationalization of Brazilian cultural products has been little explored. The proposed framework presented here relates to the variables "made in", preference, and internationalization of Brazilian cultural product with the moderating variable of soft power, aiming to provide opportunities for further discussions on the subject, besides enabling its application for future studies., A cultura tornou-se um dos setores de mais rápido crescimento nas economias pós-industriais.

This study investigates the differences in select organizational charac- teristics, managerial practices and work attitudes among 670 public and private sector workers in Brazil. The results indicate that in some aspects there is a moderation effect by type of organization. For example, when public employees score high on autonomy and task significance, perceive organizational practices as favourable, and keep membership in the same organization, they tend to be more satisfied than private sector workers. Overall, the findings highlight the need for more international comparisons to gain a better understanding of the public-private distinction.

Non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) in adolescence is a serious public health problem. Although self-compassion is a protective factor of mental health difficulties in adult populations, its potential impact on adolescence remains scarcely explored. Therefore, we aimed to test whether self-compassion can mitigate the impact of daily peer hassles and depressive symptoms on NSSI. The participants were 643 adolescents (51.6% female) with ages between 12 and 18 years old, from middle and secondary schools. Self-report questionnaires were used to measure daily peer hassles, depressive symptoms, self-compassion and NSSI. Daily peer hassles was positively correlated with depressive symptoms and NSSI. Self-compassion was inversely associated with daily peer hassles and depressive symptoms and NSSI. Path Analysis showed that self-compassion had a moderator effect on the association between depressive symptoms and NSSI. Results suggest that self-compassion can be a protective process, as it may buffer against the impact of depressive symptoms on NSSI. This study presents preventive and clinical implications for educators and therapists working with adolescents.

Depression is a serious health problem, especially in adolescence. Several variables can arise as risk or protective factors in different contexts, promoting a good or bad adjustment. The main goal is to identify if variables like resilience and psychosocial functioning are related to depression in adolescence. Additionally, gender differences in these variables are explored. This study aims to analyze the predictive effect of Resilience and Psychosocial Functioning on Depressive Symptoms, and verify the moderating effects of Psychosocial Functioning, and its areas, on Resilience in the same prediction. The sample consists of 406 adolescents. Two questionnaires were used: the Children's Depression Inventory (CDI, Kovacs, 1985; Portuguese version: Marujo, 1994), and the Resilience Scale-13 (Pinheiro & Matos, 2013), Portuguese version of the RS-14 (Wagnild & Young, 2009). The interview Adolescent Longitudinal Interval Follow-Up Evaluation (A-LIFE, Keller et al., 1993; Portuguese version: Matos & Costa, 2011) was also applied. Results revealed that both Resilience and Psychosocial Functioning were predictors of Depressive Symptomatology. Thus, adolescents with higher levels of Resilience showed less Depressive Symptomatology, as did adolescents with better Psychosocial Functioning. Global Psychosocial Functioning was a moderator of Resilience only in males, although some of its areas showed moderating effects for the whole sample or just for females. These results emphasized the relevance of Psychosocial Functioning and Resilience in the adolescents’ Depressive Symptomatology and suggested the importance of developing depression prevention programs specifically focused on improving Resilience and Psychosocial Functioning. © 2016 Published by Future Academy www.FutureAcademy.org.uk

In addition, evidence suggests that certain psychological characteristics of workers would vary positively or negatively influence the magnitude of the resources on the links with work and on well-being. Based on this evidence this study aimed to analyze the influence of organizational justice (distributive, procedures and interactional) and psychological capital on engagement at work and subjective well-being (emotional balance and life satisfaction). From the main goal, four hypotheses have been proposed: perception of organizational justice increases engagement at work (H1) and subjective well-being (H2); psychological capital was moderator of the relationship between organizational justice and subjective well-being (H3) and the relationship between organizational justice and engagement (H4), and that high levels of psychological capital would strengthen relations. The design was a cross-sectional quantitative, descriptive and non-probability sampling. From a sample of 293 workers with an average age of 38.3 (SD = 10.7) years, of which slightly more than half were women (56.3pc), coming from all regions of Brazil, predominantly in the Southeast (65.2pc) was measured with valid and accurate scales, through an online questionnaire, the organizational justice levels, psychological capital, engagement at work and subjective well-being. Two sets of multiple linear regression analysis to test the hypotheses were performed. In the first set of analyzes, the results of standard multiple linear regressions indicated that organizational justice influenced the levels of engagement at work and subjective well-being, and, in relation to engagement and emotional balance, only the interactional dimension of justice was significant predictor while distributive justice was the only significant predictor of life satisfaction. In the second set of analyzes, the hierarchical multiple linear regressions for each dimension of organizational justice, along with psychological capital and interaction term upon engagement at work and subjective well-being, they indicated that psychological capital moderated the relations of procedural justice and interactional justice on engagement at work. It was concluded from the results that the perception of being adequately remunerated for their efforts at work, participate in decisions that affect the work and be treated with respect and sincerity can influence the levels of pride and inspiration at work, engagement features, and may increase the subjective well-being levels, contributing to the prevailing experience of positive affect and positive satisfaction ratings with life. Moreover, although it is not possible to say that workers with higher levels of belief in their ability to perform their tasks and with good prospects for the future, can do without fair environments to engage in work, the results showed that these workers can suffer less influence of interactional and procedural justice to establish that bond with their work, demonstrating that these personal characteristics would act as shock absorbers given the lack of environmental resources.

Depression is one of the most prevalent psychological conditions among adolescents. The first major depressive episode tends to occur around 15 years old. Between 13 and 15 years old gender differences begin to emerge with girls presenting higher prevalence of depressive symptoms than boys. Problems on emotion regulation and constantly relying on maladaptive cognitive emotion regulation strategies have been pointed as a risk factor for depression and also as a factor that explains gender differences in depressive symptoms, as girls tend to use more maladaptive strategies than boys, such as rumination, self-blaming and catastrophizing. This study aimed to test the moderating effect of gender in the relationship between cognitive emotion regulation strategies and depressive symptoms. 319 adolescents, 13 to 15 years old, participated. Self-reported measures were used to access depressive symptoms (CDI) and cognitive emotion regulation strategies (CERQ). The moderating effect of gender was found in the relationship between positive reappraisal and depressive symptoms, suggesting the importance of enhancing positive reappraisal when facing negative life events, especially for girls.

In this paper we analyzed the performance of Brazilian multimarket funds. In order to do so, we used an alternative tool that is related to the study carried out by Amin and Kat (2003). This performance measure represents a non-parametric test that can be used to evaluate funds with non-normally distributed returns. Based on the bootstrapping technique, we created confidence intervals for the Amin and Kat (2003) test in order to ensure more reliability to the performance estimates of the funds, and this procedure could be a methodological contribution to new studies in this area. With data of 107 funds in the period between January, 2005 and August, 2011, and applying the multiple regression analysis, the main results showed that, for the net performance, there is no evidence of extraordinary value added by the funds. This result is in conformity with the market efficiency hypothesis, specifically in the semi-strong form. When it comes to gross performance (which refers to the performance measured before the deduction of management fees and performance fees), in economic scenes without financial restrictions, we found evidences of extraordinary value added by the managers of the funds in the sample. In other words, active management can generate extraordinary value in Brazil; however, in accordance with Jensen (1978), Fama (1991) and also with the already discussed by Castro and Minardi (2009), this extraordinary return is eroded by the costs that are necessary for its achievement. We also show that periods of financial crisis had a significant impact on the funds' performance. Such periods also showed a moderator effect between the fund's performance and its determinants, which is one of the main contributions of this paper. These findings may indicate relevant contributions to the theory about investment funds, as similar results about the moderator effect were not found in previous researches.

Some studies assume that the prediction of human values on consumer choices is mediated by the attitudes of the products, but do not test if they are moderators of this relation and suppressors of the previous choice. The moderation and suppression would be likely observing the quality and level of intensification or attenuation of the values on decisions and on the inertia of choices, assuming they are not causes of them. We performed interaction tests of values with the importance of decision criteria to predict preference for products and brands, considering the previous choice. Logistic and ordinal regressions reveal that human values moderate the decisions regarding preference and suppress the inertial influence of previous choice with good fit and predictive power. The results help to understand the role of human values on consumer choices.

If on one hand the private sector assumes profit maximization based on objectives, clearly defined processes and highly competitive environments, the public sector depends on political and bureaucratic decisions involved in relatively ambiguous processes and not subject to the same competitive pressures. The reforms over the last few years aim to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the Portuguese Health System. Therefore, in order to understand how these differences operate on the relationship between leadership and organisational outcomes, this study intends to explore the role of the sector, as a moderating variable of the relationship between the variables quality relationship Leader-Member Exchange (LMX) and the two organisational outcomes: turnover intention and customer orientation. In order to test the relationships in the Portuguese empirical setting, a survey with 153 professionals working on the public and private health sector was conducted in the Lisbon and Tagus Valley region. The results showed a negative relationship between LMX and turnover and a positive relationship between LMX and customer orientation. Through a regression analysis, it was possible to verify that the sector moderates the relationship between LMX and the two organisational outcomes.

Este artigo pretende servir como um guia na condução de experimentos para pesquisadores iniciantes e oferecer novas perspectivas da pesquisa experimental para pesquisadores mais experientes.DOI: 10.5585/remark.v13i2.2692, Considering the growing number of scientific studies published in the marketing field and the development of unique theories of the area (Hunt, 2010), using experimental designs seems increasingly appropriate to investigate marketing phenomena. This article aims to discuss the main elements in conducting experimental studies and also to stimulate researchers to adopt this research method. Several international journals (e.g., JCR, JCP, JMR, JR, JBR) have been publishing articles based on experiments that not only demonstrate a relationship between two events, but also elucidate how they occur by means of mediation and moderation analyses. This article intents to be a roadmap for novice researchers on how to conduct experiments and to offer new perspectives in experimental research for experienced researchers.
