Considering the importance of validity evidence studies when designing psychological instruments, this study intended on verifying the construct validity of reasoning subtests, through convergent evidence and CFA, as part of a battery for giftedness assessment. A Manova was also applied to evaluate sex and grade differences. The sample was composed of 96 students, in which 49 were female, with 6th grade (n=15), 7th grade (n=12), 8th grade (n=49) students and 2nd year (n=20) students from a public school in the state of São Paulo, aged between 10 and 18 (M = 13.4 years, SD = 1.8). The participants answered the Raven Progressive Matrices Test (general scale) and reasoning subtests that belong to the Battery for Giftedness Assessment (BAHA/G). The results from Pearson's correlation indicated convergence as the majority of the factors composed in BAHA/G showed positive and significant correlations with the Raven test factors, and the CFA displayed two latent variables with strong correlations, particularly among their total score (r=.976). With these results, we found the moderate relationship between these instruments. Further studies are recommended on other types of validity evidence of these subtests to confirm its psychometric qualities.

Crianças e adolescentes com paralisia cerebral e privados de comunicação efetiva podem também ter seu desenvolvimento intelectual dificultado. O objetivo desta pesquisa foi avaliar o desenvolvimento intelectual de crianças e adolescentes com paralisia cerebral e necessidades complexas de comunicação em uma escola especial no Brasil, baseado no uso de comunicação alternativa e ampliada (CAA). Quinze indivíduos com paralisia cerebral (idade média: 11a3m ± 2a9m) foram avaliados: 9 usavam CAA (seis meninos, 11a9m ± 3a4m) e seis não usavam (3 meninos, 10a6m ± 1a6m). As Matrizes Progressivas Coloridas de Raven – Escala Especial (CPM) foram usadas para a avaliação intelectual. Os que utilizavam a CAA obtiveram uma média de 25.89, os que não usavam 5.83 (p=0.012). Os resultados indicam que nesse coorte existe uma diferença significativa entre o desenvolvimento intelectual dos que usam CAA e dos que não a usam., Children and adolescents with cerebral palsy and devoid of effective communication may also have their intellectual development impaired. The goal of this research was to assess the intellectual development of children and adolescents with cerebral palsy (CP) and complex communication needs in a special school in Brazil based on their reliance on augmentative and alternative communication (AAC). Fifteen individuals with cerebral palsy (mean age: 11y3m ± 2y9m) were assessed: nine of them relied on AAC (6 males, 11y9m ± 3y4m) and six did not (3 males, 10y6m ± 1y6m). O R-1: Teste Não Verbal de Inteligência é um instrumento que foi construído com base no Teste de Matrizes Progressivas de Raven de acordo aos pressupostos teóricos da análise fatorial de Spearman, teoria bifatorial. O presente artigo objetivou apresentar normas para o R-1 para uma amostra de motoristas e candidatos a Carteira Nacional de Habilitação de uma região do sudoeste da Bahia - Brasil. A amostra foi composta de 1507 adultos, de ambos os sexos e três níveis de escolaridade, que realizaram avaliação psicológica em uma clínica credenciada ao DETRAN-BA. Para determinar a influência do sexo e da escolaridade foram realizados testes estatísticos, que indicaram diferenças significativas nas pontuações em função dessas variáveis. Os resultados apontaram a necessidade de estabelecer normas por sexo e por nível de escolaridade para a população estudada. Tais estudos contribuem para o avanço nas pesquisas em avaliação psicológica no contexto do trânsito.

Objective: To investigate the neuropsychological visual motor perceptual functions of children with cleft lip and palate. Methods: Observational, prospective, cross-sectional, descriptive study, held at a referral hospital for craniofacial anomalies in the period from August 2012 to February 2013. The study included 50 children of both sexes, 25 of them with cleft lip and palate, comprising GI, and 25 children as control group, GII, aged 10 years. For evaluation, the study applied the Coloured Progressive Matrices, the Visual Motor Gestalt Test, and Neuropsychological Subtests Examination, followed by statistical evaluation, using promotion and correlation tests (Fischer) at 5% significance level. Results: The group with cleft lip and palate showed performance below the expected average for their age, the group with the trans-incisive foramen cleft type being the most affected in the performance of visual motor perceptual competence. Pre- and post-foramen cleft types obtained average scores, with values matching the control group. Conclusion: Children with cleft lip and palate of trans-foramen type were found more liable to present disorders in visual motor functions. Furthermore, skills in the perceptual and constructive domains are related to performances classified below the expected mean for the age range in the target population.

Trata-se de uma análise fenomenológica da conversa interna em duas condições: (a) desempenho de tarefa em voz alta contextualizada por parâmetros psicométricos, (b) experiência consciente da vida cotidiana. Participaram do estudo 23 estudantes universitários, com idade variando entre 17 e 28 anos. Três instrumentos foram utilizados: Teste Matrizes Progressivas de Raven, Questionário de Ruminação e Reflexividade, Entrevista Fenomenológica. Na análise destacou-se: a tríade estrutural de uma voz (eu) que fala a uma terceira parte (você) sobre um objeto (mim) conforme o modelo Peirce-Mead de Nobert Wiley, a intencionalidade bidimensional entre a tarefa e o self, as interferências da ruminação no desempenho do teste de Raven. As entrevistas fenomenológicas descreveram quando, para que, e como ocorre a conversa interna, e quando é inoportuna (pensamento circular) e oportuna (pensamento produtivo). A análise diferenciou a função de dados de terceira e de primeira pessoa na elucidação de um fenômeno cognitivo. This study presents a phenomenological analysis of inner speech under two conditions: (a) the performance of a thinking-aloud task, contextualized by psychometric parameters, and (b) conscious experience of daily life. A total of 23 undergraduate students, aged between 18 and 28 years old, participated in the study. Three instruments were used: Raven Progressive Matrices, Rumination and Reflection Questionnaire, and a phenomenological interview. The following stood out: the structural triad of a voice (the Self) that talks to a third party (You) about an object (Me), according to the Peirce-Mead model of Norbert Wiley, the bi-dimensional intentionality that exists between the task and the self, and rumination disruptions during the performance of the Raven test. The phenomenological interviews revealed when, why and how inner dialogue occurs, as well as when it is inappropriate (circular thinking) or appropriate (productive and strategic thinking). This study also differentiated first and third person data in a cognitive phenomenon that was observed. Se trata de un análisis fenomenológico de la conversación interna en dos condiciones: (a) el desempeño de tareas en voz alta contextualizada por parámetros psicométricos, y (b) la experiencia consciente de la vida cotidiana. Los sujetos fueron 23 estudiantes universitarios, con edades comprendidas entre 18 y 28 años. Se utilizaron tres instrumentos: Test de Matrices Progresivas de Raven; Cuestionario de Rumia y Reflexión; y entrevista fenomenológica. El análisis mostró que: la tríada estructural de una voz (Yo) habla con una tercera parte (Usted) acerca de un objeto (Me), según el modelo de Norbert Wiley, la intencionalidad de dos dimensiones existentes entre la tarea y el self, la interferencia de la rumia durante la ejecución del Raven. Las entrevistas fenomenológicas describieron cuando, por que y como ocurre la conversación interna, y cuando es inadecuada (pensamiento repetitivo) u oportuna (pensamiento productivo, estratégico). El estudio también diferenció la función de datos de la tercera y primera persona en la elucidación de un fenómeno cognitivo.

Participaram 30 crianças de idade entre 9 e 10 anos, ambos os gêneros, divididas em dois grupos: sem dificuldade em aritmética (SDA; N=11) e com dificuldade em aritmética (CDA; N=19), avaliadas pela ZAREKI-R, Matrizes Coloridas de Raven, o Blocos de Corsi e o BCPR. Crianças CDA exibiram escores levemente mais baixos que as SDA quanto ao nível intelectual e nos Blocos de Corsi. Na ZAREKI-R apresentaram prejuízo nos subtestes ditado de números, cálculo mental, problemas aritméticos e total. Crianças CDA apresentaram déficits específicos em memória operacional visuoespacial e comprometimento em processamento numérico e cálculo, compatível com discalculia do desenvolvimento. This study investigated which aspects of number processing and calculation and working memory are related to arithmetic deficits. The participants were children aged from 9 to 10 years, both gender, divided in two groups based on their calculation score: a group without arithmetic disability (SDA; N=11) and with arithmetic disability (CDA; N=19); assessed by the instruments: ZAREKI-R, Raven's Coloured Progressive Matrices, Block Span, Digit Span, and CPR (pseudowords repetition). CDA children exhibited slightly lower scores than SDA on intellectual level and Block Span, and deficits in dictation of numbers, mental calculation, and problem solving tasks of the ZAREKI-R. The results indicate that CDA children have specific deficits in visuospatial working memory and performed poorly in number representation tasks, which fulfill criteria for Developmental Dyscalculia. Participaram do estudo 20 crianças vitimizadas comparadas com seus pares da mesma sala de aula, mesmo sexo e mesma faixa etária, mas sem histórico de violência doméstica, suas respectivas mães e professoras. As crianças responderam ao Teste de Desempenho Escolar, Inventário de Estilos Parentais e ao Teste de Raven (Escala Especial) e apresentaram o caderno escolar. As mães responderam a uma entrevista e a Escala de Táticas de Conflitos Revisada (CTS-2). As professoras apresentaram sua opinião sobre o desempenho acadêmico dos participantes. Os dados obtidos mostraram que a criança vitimizada tem desempenho escolar inferior ao grupo controle. Os resultados da CTS-2 indicaram que a maioria das crianças vitimizadas estava exposta à violência conjugal. O estudo mostrou que, além da violência doméstica direta e indireta, tais crianças estavam expostas a outros fatores de risco, tais como, pobreza, baixa escolaridade materna e uso de álcool e/ou droga por familiares. The aim of this study was to characterize the school performance of victimized children assisted by the Judicial System. Twenty victimized children's school performances were compared to their peers of the same classroom, gender, age, but without a history of family violence. Their respective mothers and teachers also took part in this study. Children from both groups answered The Academic Performance Test, Parenting Styles Inventory and the Raven's Progressive Matrices Test. The children also gave samples of their notebook production. Children's mothers answered a family interview and the Revised Conflict Tactics Scales (CTS-2). Teachers offered their impressions on student's academic performance. Results indicated inferior academic performance by the victimized child, when compared with their matched group. According to teachers, victimized children had inferior academic performance in relation to their non-victim peers. CTS-2 results indicated that most of victimized children were exposed to marital violence. Moreover, the study shows that, besides direct and indirect domestic violence, these children were exposed to other risk factors, such as, poverty, maternal low educational level and alcohol/drugs used by relatives. A análise dos padrões dos movimentos oculares em esquizofrênicos mostra que estes apresentam alterações próprias da doença. O objetivo foi avaliar e relacionar as propriedades dos movimentos oculares com o estado clínico e nível intelectual durante observação de faces. Foram avaliados 10 sujeitos com diagnóstico de esquizofrenia e 10 controle, pareados em função de sexo, idade e escolaridade. Foi utilizada a Escala das Síndromes Positiva e Negativa (ESPN), o Teste de Matrizes Progressivas Raven e o Penn Emotion Acuity Test. A busca visual foi registrada com programa EyeGaze®. Resultados mostram que ambos os grupos fixaram mais as faces com conteúdo emocional, sendo o número total de fixações menor entre os pacientes com esquizofrenia. A duração da fixação teve correlação inversa com a pontuação no Raven, PANSS e número de fixação. Parâmetros dos movimentos oculares se correlacionaram com a condição clínica e nível intelectual dos pacientes com esquizofrenia. Analyses of the eye movement patterns of schizophrenics show some specific characteristics underlying the illness. The objective of present study was to evaluate and correlate basic properties of the eye movements with the clinical state and intelligence during the visual scan of faces. 10 outpatient subjects with schizophrenia and 10 controls matched in gender, age and school years were evaluated. The assessment tools were the Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale (PNSS), the Raven's Progressive Matrices Test and the Penn Emotion Acuity Test. The visual scan was registered with the EyeGaze® program. Both groups showed more fixations for stimuli with emotional expression, with significantly smaller overall number of fixations for the schizophrenic subjects group. Duration of fixations was inversely correlated with score in the Raven Test, PANSS and number of fixations. The properties of the eye movements showed correlation with the clinical condition and intelligence of the outpatients with schizophrenia.

Este estudo avaliou o ajuste do modelo Rasch quanto à unidimensionalidade das Matrizes Progressivas Coloridas de Raven. Foram estudadas 441 crianças de ambos os sexos, de 1ª a 4ª série do ensino fundamental. Para avaliar a possibilidade de violação, optou-se pela análise de componentes principais de resíduos, pois eles podem ser suficientes para violar a unidimensionalidade intrínseca dos itens. Foram selecionados os itens de maior saturação em relação à dimensão positiva e negativa do primeiro fator, em relação ao teste como um todo e a cada série em particular. Esses itens foram novamente analisados pelo modelo de Rasch, separadamente, e correlacionadas as pontuações do fator positivo com o negativo. Os resultados sugeriram que o instrumento como um todo e a série B possibilitam a interpretação da existência de outra dimensão além da extraída pelo modelo de Rasch e nas outras duas séries as correlações estiveram próximas do ponto de rejeição. This study assessed the adjustment of the Rasch model concerning unidimensionality of Raven's Colored Standard Progressive Matrices. Four hundred and forty-one (441) elementary school children, of both genders, attending first to fourth grade were investigated. Considering that residuals may be enough to violate the intrinsic unidimensionality of the items, residual principal component analysis was used to assess the possibility of this violation. Items with higher factorial loading relating to the positive and negative dimensions on the first factor were selected, in respect to the test as a whole and to each subset in particular. These items were re-analyzed with the Rasch model within each data group. Then the positive and negative factor measures were correlated. Results suggested the possibility of other dimensions besides those extracted by Rasch model based on the test and subset B, though the correlation coefficients of the other subsets were close to rejection.

O Teste das Matrizes Progressivas Coloridas de Raven destina-se à avaliação do desenvolvimento intelectual de crianças de 5 a 11 anos de idade. O presente trabalho teve como objetivo estabelecer normas para as crianças de Porto Alegre - RS. A amostra foi composta por 779 crianças matriculadas em escolas estaduais, de 4 anos e 9 meses a 11 anos e 9 meses. Foi constatado aumento progressivo nas médias de pontos com o aumento da idade e não foram encontradas diferenças entre meninos e meninas. Na comparação com as crianças de escolas públicas de São Paulo, as médias das crianças de Porto Alegre foram mais altas, mas em geral foram inferiores às das escolas particulares de São Paulo. Foram estabelecidas as normas em percentis para cada faixa etária. Os resultados reforçam a necessidade do estabelecimento de normas distintas para as diferentes regiões do Brasil, principalmente em relação aos testes de inteligência. The Raven's Coloured Progressive Matrices was proposed standards to Porto Alegre (RS) children. The sample was composed by 779 children from Porto Alegre state public schools, aged from 4 years and 9 months to 11 years and 9 months. It was found a progressive increase in average scores as age increased and it was not verified differences between boys and girls. Comparing average scores between children from São Paulo and Porto Alegre public schools we found that the average scores from Porto Alegre children was higher, but they were lower than the scores from São Paulo private schools children. Percentile ranks were obtained to each age level with range of six months. Research results show the need to establish specific norms to different Brazilian regions, mainly concerning intelligence tests.
