In this paper, we discuss the derivation alternator rings which are nonassociative but not (-1.1) rings. By assuming some additional conditions, we prove that derivation alternator rings are (-1,1) rings. Here we validate a semiprime derivation alternator ring with commutators in the left nucleus satisfies the identity . By using this we show that a semiprime derivation alternator ring with commutators in the left nucleus is a (-1,1) ring.

Abstract Chocolate is a delectable sweet enjoyed all over the world. Made from dried cocoa beans, through the process of roasting, grinding, and conching, chocolate is known for its taste and flavor. Although the sugar content of chocolate is limiting its reach to the health-conscious population, chocolate is endowed with immense medicinal benefits. The major ingredient of chocolate, cocoa, Theobroma cacao L., is a plant known as the “Food of the Gods” due to the abundance of polyphenols present in it. Processing conditions and parameters affect the polyphenol stability. Roasting process conditions affect the polyphenols of cocoa beans, especially the epicatechin and procyanidin. The variety of cocoa beans, quality and presence of fat, sugar, emulsifiers, drying time, and temperature are the important influencing factors affecting the polyphenol content of chocolate. Chocolate possesses antioxidant, antidiabetic, anticancer, anti–inflammatory, and good mood food properties but it is also shown to be prebiotic and helps in alleviating the symptoms of Alzheimer’s and heart disease. The functional properties of chocolate can be enhanced by the addition of certain foods/ functional ingredients. This paper reviews the role of chocolate as a functional food, the effect of processing on polyphenols, and the recent developments in improving the functional properties of chocolates through fortification.

ABSTRACT Objective: The study aimed at determining the antibacterial properties of composites containing silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs) or titanium dioxide nanoparticles (TiO2 NPs), and a fluoride-releasing composite against Streptococcus mutans and Lactobacillus acidophilus, and to evaluate the effect on shear bond strength (SBS) of nanoparticles-modified composites. Materials and Methods: An orthodontic composite was modified by adding 1% w/w Ag NPs or 1% w/w TiO2 NPs. Composite discs were prepared to evaluate the antibacterial properties of these modified composites against Streptococcus mutans and Lactobacillus acidophilus, using three different antibacterial tests, namely: Disk agar diffusion test, Biofilm inhibition test and eluted component test. For evaluating the shear bond strength, 80 extracted premolars were collected and divided into four groups (n=20 each), which were bonded with stainless steel preadjusted Edgewise brackets, by using these modified composites. Their SBS was then compared with that of the control group, using a universal testing machine. Results: Composite discs containing nanoparticles and fluoride were capable of producing growth inhibition zones for all bacterial types. Results of the biofilm inhibition test showed that all the study groups inhibited the bacterial count, in comparison to the control group. A significant difference of SBS was observed between all groups. Conclusion: The antibacterial activity of orthodontic composites modified with Ag and TiO2 nanoparticles was significant, compared with conventional and fluoride-containing composites. The control group showed the highest SBS, followed by fluoride, titanium, and silver groups, with statistically significant difference in mean SBS values among all groups.

Objective. To explore women's experiences of violence and their opinion on routine screening for domestic violence by nursing professionals in mental health care settings. Methods. This qualitative narrative research design was carried out among 20 asymptomatic women with mental illness at a tertiary care centre in Bangalore, India. Results. Narrative content analysis was performed, and five dominant themes have emerged: 1. Understanding the nature and signs of violence (subtheme: Meaning of violence), 2. Abusive experiences of women with mental illness (subthemes: Physical violence, psychological violence, social violence, sexual violence and financial violence), 3. Experiences on disclosure of violence (subthemes: Identification of violence by nursing professionals, Experiences of disclosure of violence), 4. Barriers for disclosure of abuse(subthemes: Fear of consequences, the hectic schedule of nursing staff, helplessness and hopelessness, perceived poor family support). 5.Routine screening for violence by nursing professionals (subthemes: reasons for routine inquiry of violence, nature of inquiry by the nursing professionals). Conclusion. Women with mental illness were undergoing more than one form of violence, and most of the participants supported routine screening by nursing professionals. Nurses play an essential role in identifying and supporting abused women in mental health care settings.

In this paper, we present and analyze the upper and lower bounds on the Hyper Zagreb index $\chi^2(G)$ of graph $G$ in terms of the number of vertices $(n)$, number of edges $(m)$, maximum degree $(\Delta)$, minimum degree $(\delta)$ and the inverse degree $(ID(G))$. In addition, we give a counter example on the upper bound of the second Zagreb index for Theorems 2.2 and 2.4 from \cite{ranjini}. Finally, we present lower and upper bounds on $\chi^2(G)+\chi^2(\overline G)$, where $\overline G$ denotes the complement of $G$.

Abstract This work aims in developing carboxyl functionalised graphene based PP nanocomposites by using melt mixing method to enhance the mechanical and thermal properties. Maleic anhydride grafted polypropylene was used as a compatibilizer to achieve better compatibility between the non-polar polymer and polar nanofiller. FTIR study confirms the presence of functional groups at corresponding absorption levels. TEM and SEM image shows the uniform distribution of COOH-Gr onto the PP matrix with the addition of MA-g-PP onto it. The tensile strength and young’s modulus of PMG5 depicts better improvement of 62% and 20% compared to neat sample. The increase in storage modulus of 19.02% was obtained for PG and 43.48% for PMG samples. The reduction in tan δ peak confirms the minimum heat buildup and as a result, leads to better damping characteristics of the nanofiller incorporated PP matrix.

Abstract Glass fibre reinforced composite pipes were fabricated by using an IPN blend of 0%, 10%, 20%, 30%, 40%, 50% PU prepolymer (Polyurethane) with VER(Vinylester) resin. The prepared IPN (Interpenetrating polymer networks) composite pipes were subjected to boiling water immersion tests in order to study the effect of moisture absorption characteristics. The Burst strength and Hoop strength of water immersed specimens were evaluated (3, 6, 9, 12 months) and compared along with dry composite specimens. It was found that, percentage of moisture uptake was significantly reduced with increase in PU loading into the IPN system as well the Burst strength and Hoop strength of the specimens were found to be diminishing with raise in percentage of moisture uptake and raise in temperature; contrarily, the addition of PU significantly reduced the moisture intake, in addition to that the PU added IPN pipe offers better mechanical strength while compared with neat Vinylester pipes.

Objective. To assess nurses’ knowledge and perceptions towards mental illness. Methods. This was a cross-sectional descriptive study conducted among 126 randomly selected nurses those are working under District Mental Health program in Karnataka (India). The data was collected through self-reported questionnaires Using the modified version of Public perception of mental illness questionnaire and Attitude Scale for Mental Illness. Results. The findings revealed that majority of the subjects were women (74.4%), Hindus (92.1%) and were from rural background (69.8%). The mean Knowledge score 10.8±1.6 adequate knowledge (maximum possible =12) among 91% of the subjects, and 52% of them hold negative attitudes towards people with mental illness (88.9±13.6). While majority of the subjects hold negative attitudes in ‘Separatism’ (53.5%), ‘Stereotyping’ (73%), ‘Benevolence’ (54%), ‘Pessimistic prediction’ (53%) domains, they hold positive attitudes in ‘Restrictiveness’ (88%) and ‘Stigmatization’ (72%) domains. Abstract Advanced fabric reinforced polymer composites find extensive applications in aerospace and structural fields due to their high mechanical properties. A novel stamp forming technique finds extensive use in the hemispherical forming of thermoplastic composites. This study investigates the influence of stamp forming parameters on the formability of thermoplastic composite using Taguchi’s robust design and grey relational analysis. Taguchi’s orthogonal array was used for designing the forming experiments. Responses such as forming ratio and logarithmic thickness strain were considered for the assessment of sheet formability through single and multi-response optimization. Analysis of variance was used for the determination of the contribution of each parameter on formability and it was identified that the die temperature acts as a prominent factor, followed by blank holder force and blank temperature. The confirmation test was conducted at optimum parameter levels and the obtained experimental grade was seen within the confidence interval of the predicted value.

Objective. To examine undergraduate nursing student' attitudes toward people with mental illness and mental health nursing. Methodology. This was a cross sectional descriptive study carried out among conveniently selected nursing students (N=116). Data was collected through self- reported questionnaires. Results: Majority of the participants agreed that the theoretical (81.1%) and cpnical placement (85.4%) was adequate. Similarly, 62.9% would pke to apply for a post-basic program in Psychiatric nursing and 69.8% of the students intend to pursue their career as mental health nurses. A series of vinyl ester and polyurethane interpenetrating polymer networks were prepared by changing the component ratios of VER (Vinyl ester) and PU (Polyurethane) and the polymerization process was confirmed with Fourier Transform infrared spectroscopy. IPN (Inter Penetrating Polymer Network - VER/PU) reinforced Glass and carbon fiber composite laminates were made using the Hand lay up technique. The Mechanical properties of the E-glass and carbon fiber specimens were compared from tests including Tensile, Compressive, Flexural, ILSS (Inter Laminar Shear Strength), Impact & Head Deflection Test (HDT). The IPN Reinforced Carbon fiber specimen showed better results in all the tests than E-Glass fibre reinforced IPN laminate with same thickness of the specimen, according to ASTM standards. It was found that the combination of 60%VER and 40%PU IPN exhibits better impact strength and maximum elongation at break, but at the slight expense of mechanical properties such as tensile, compressive, flexural, ILSS properties. The morphology of the unreinforced and reinforced composites was analyzed with help of scanning electron microscopy.

Objective. Compare the attitudes toward mental illness between medical and nursing undergraduate students from a university in India. Methods. A cross sectional descriptive study was carried out among medical (n=154) and nursing undergraduate students (n=168) using Attitude Scale for Mental Illness (ASMI) questionnaire with six sub scales namely; Separatism, Stereotyping, Restrictiveness, Benevolence, Pessimistic prediction and Stigmatization. This was a 5-point Likert scale with 34 items to rate participants responses from totally disagree (1) to totally agree (5). The lower scores indicate positive attitudes toward persons with mental illness. Results. Our findings revealed that 54.5% of medical students versus 64.8% of nursing students have positive attitudes toward mental illness. While medical students have better attitudes against separatism and stigmatization, nursing students have more positive attitudes in benevolence and against pessimism. Conclusion. An important proportion of medical and nursing students have negative attitudes toward mental illness. It is necessary to review and adapt the current curriculum to favor the positive attitude of future professionals toward people with these types of diseases. Sedimentation studies have been carried out to optimize the dispersion conditions of aqueous alumina nanopowder suspensions with or without dispersants (ammonium salt of polymethacrylic acid or rhamnolipids at 15%). Different dispersant dosages, solid loadings, pulp densities and pH values were examined. The iso-electric point (IEP) of the alumina nanopowder was found to be pHiep= 9.2. The experiments revealed that the polymethacrylic acid was more effective as dispersant than rhamnolipids in a wide range of pH at all solid-loading conditions tested. Optimum dispersant dosages for polymethacrylic acid and rhamnolipids to achieve maximum stability of alumina nanodispersion at iso-electric point were found to be 9.25 mg/g and 57.75 mg/g solids, respectively.Foram feitos estudos de sedimentação para otimizar as condições de dispersão de suspensões aquosas de pós de alumina nanométrica com e sem dispersantes (sais de amônia de ácido poliacrílico ou rhamnolipídeos a 15%). Foram examinados diferentes dosagens de dispersante, cargas de sólidos, densidades de pasta e valores de pH. O ponto isoelétrico do pó de alumina nanométrica obtido foi pHiep = 9,2. Os experimentos mostraram que numa ampla faixa de pH e para todas as condições de carga de sólidos testadas, o ácido polimetacrílico foi mais efetivo como dispersante que o rhamnolipídeo. Os teores otimizados de dispersante para que as dispersões de alumina nanométrica atinjam estabilidade máxima, obtidos para o ácido polimetacrílico e para o rhamnolipídeo foram, respectivamente, 9,25 mg/g e 57,75 mg/g de sólidos.

This article is based on the engagement of a US-based scholar and faculty members in a non-Western university in a mentoring exercise on publishing. It demonstrates how the “list” constructed in a particular academic department in the university for ranking relevant journals for publication has reproductive effects on knowledge construction. The ranking of journals shapes scholarly interactions both inside and outside the academic department, offering limited possibilities for developing local knowledge. A micro-level orientation to publishing is first adopted to bring out how rhetorical and textual choices are influenced by the list of ranked journals. Next, a broad lens perspective is adopted to explore how academic interactions and communication among local scholars are also shaped by such productivity targets to reproduce dominant knowledge. In the final section, the article reports on the way mentoring was reconfigured to identify strategic textual spaces for representing local knowledge within existing publishing conventions.

Commentators have wrongly assumed that the operations and outcomes of South Africa’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) reflected the intentions of the African National Congress (ANC) government that instigated it. In line with its agenda of substantive social history, the ANC intended to establish a new Gramscian ‘common sense’ of anti-colonialism and self-determination to drive anti-apartheid transformation. As part of its additional aim for an institutional intervention, the ANC sought to renovate the inherited technology of the colonial commission of inquiry itself. As the paper shows, these aims were overturned through the superimposition of ‘transitional justice’ within the workings of the TRC and the TRC’s ‘Final Report’. The continuing implications of this abduction are addressed in closing.

ABSTRACT Processes regulating pesticide fate in the environment are influenced by the physicochemical properties of pesticides and soils. Sorption and desorption are important processes as they regulate the movement of pesticides in soil. Although sorption-desorption is widely studied for herbicides, studies involving their metabolites in soil are scarce. Sorption and desorption of indaziflam metabolites (indaziflam-triazinediamine (FDAT), indaziflam-triazine-indanone (ITI) and indaziflam-carboxilic acid (ICA)) were investigated in six Brazilian (BRA) soils and three United States (USA) soils with different physicochemical properties. The Freundlich equation described sorption of the metabolites for all soils (R2 > 0.98; 1/n ~ 1). Sorption order (Kf) was ITI > ICA > FDAT. Mean values of Kf,oc were 453, 289, and 81 (BRA) and 444, 48, and 48 (USA) for metabolites ITI, ICA, and FDAT respectively. Desorption was hysteretic for all metabolites in all soils. These results suggest that these metabolites fall in the classification range of mobile to moderately mobile in soils.

O principal objetivo deste estudo é reavaliar os caracteres diagnósticos de Gangamopteris (?) buriadica Feistmantel com base na análise do material tipo, depositado na coleção do Serviço Geológico da Índia, Calcutá, e outros espécimes depositados em distintas coleções situadas no sudeste (São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro) e sul (Porto Alegre) do Brasil. Um recente reexame do material tipo revelou uma feição tafonômica única: a lâmina foliar está lateralmente dobrada sobre si mesma. Este fato implica em uma nova interpretação da forma da folha de um contorno lanceolado-espatulado para um mais ovalado-obovado. Além disso, a visão apenas parcial da lâmina não permite o entendimento do verdadeiro padrão das veias laterais por completo, as quais se inclinam em direção às margens laterais. Como uma conseqüência desta reinterpretação, propomos uma emenda à diagnose original desta espécie, a fim de incluir a lâmina curvada e o padrão de venação das margens laterais da folha como características diagnósticas da mesma. Alguns outros espécimes dos estratos permianos iniciais da Bacia do Paraná, também demonstraram essas mesmas feições diagnósticas e por isso foram incluídas nesta espécie fóssil. Conseqüentemente, a ocorrência de G. buriadica Feistm. emend. é confirmada e estendida para a Bacia do Paraná, sendo estratigráfica (Grupo Itararé e Formação Rio Bonito) e geograficamente (estados de São Paulo e Rio Grande do Sul) distribuída pelo sudeste-sul do Brasil. Por último, os significados taxonômico, tafonômico e ecológico da presença de folhas curvadas são brevemente discutidos.

O clima é um elemento básico na compreensão da dinâmica de todos os ecossistemas, desencadeando e modulando processos biológicos, físicos e químicos. Neste contexto tendo como base as novas teorias desenvolvidas em meteorologia, este trabalho analisa a influência do clima na formação, recarga e potencialidade de contaminação em aqüíferos cársticos, tomando como base um setor próximo à Curitiba. Nas conclusões do trabalho estão: o superávit de umidade regional que favorece processos de carstificação e pode facilitar a entrada de poluentes no solo e a recarga de aqüíferos; a ocorrência de nebulosidade matinal que propicia a ocorrência de acidentes de circulação vinculados ao risco potencial de contaminação de corpos d’água e aqüíferos com poluentes tóxicos.

A região cárstica curitibana vem despertando um grande polêmica quanto à exploração de água subterrânea. Considerando o aqüífero como um patrimônio natural que deve ser protegido dois aspectos fundamentais devem ser considerados. A quantidade de água extraída, não pode ser superior a taxa de recarga e o uso da terra não pode ser potencialmente poluente. Dentro deste contexto, este trabalho tem como objetivo avaliar o potencial de poluição causado pelo uso da terra nas bacias de Fervida, Ribeirão das Onças e Alto Capivari. Esta análise revelou que o sistema agrícola convencional em vigor apresenta elevado potencial de impacto sobre a qualidade de água, principalmente quanto à contaminação por nitrogênio. Entretanto, como a ocupação agrícola rentável freia a ocupação urbano-industrial, uma adaptação deste sistema de produção deveria ser considerado.

Objective.To understand the views of medical and nursing undergraduates regarding consumer involvement in mental health services. Methods. A descriptive cross sectional survey was conducted in Bangalore, South India, among medical (n=155) and nursing (n=116) undergraduates using self-reported the Mental Health Consumer Participation Questionnaire of Happell et al. ''Mental health consumer'' or ''consumer'' is defined as a person who is currently using mental health services as either an in-patient or out-patient. Results.
