Objective: to explore the potential use of the “Baby Diary” from the perspective of mothers with premature babies hospitalized in the intensive care unit. Method: descriptive and exploratory study, with a qualitative approach. The collection took place in a neonatal intensive care unit in Southern Brazil from February to June 2022 and consisted of implementing the emotional support tool “Baby Diary”, so that mothers of premature babies could record their experiences during hospitalization. After delivery, the document became the possession of the mother and family. After discharge to the ward, the tool was evaluated through audio-recorded interviews regarding its use. Data processing and text analysis were carried out using the IRaMuTeQ software. Result: most mothers were primigravidae, with intensive care stays between 22 and 65 days. Four classes were identified: The use of the “Baby Diary” and initial resistance; Emotional support and demonstration of feelings; Use of the “Baby Diary” as an intermediary in organizing thoughts for conversation with the family; Empowerment in issues related to care. Conclusion: the “Baby Diary” had potential as an educational tool for interaction and support for families of premature babies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

PERIPHERALLY inserted central catheters , *NEONATAL intensive care units , *NEONATAL intensive care , *INTERMEDIATE care , *PREMATURE infants - Abstract
The objective was to understand the care provided by nurses with the insertion of the Peripherally Inserted Central Catheter in preterm newborns, in order to identify whether the practice continues to guarantee patient safety. This is a field research, descriptive, with a qualitative approach, carried out in a tertiary care hospital, located in the southwest of the state of Paraná, with nine nurses from the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and the Neonatal Intermediate Care Unit. Data collection took place by applying a checklist and a semi-structured recorded interview, with the aid of a recorder, whose answers were transcribed and grouped by similarities. They classified them into two categories: Practices that promote safety to the newborn while using the PICC; and Practices that promote comfort to the newborn during the insertion of the PICC. The importance of knowing the safety and comfort measures is understood, in addition to developing appropriate actions, so that they can be guaranteed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Human milk is the food of choice for low birth weight preterms, but its processing and administration lead to nutritional losses. Studies have been proposing human milk additives, and the challenge is to seek techniques for effective lipid supplementation, with emphasis on omega-3, due to its importance in neurological development and cell integrity. The objective was to develop and test emulsions containing omega-3 source oil to microcapsules manufacture for addition to human milk. The experimental study used fish oil, soy lecithin as emulsifier, and starch and maltodextrin as wall materials with subsequent lyophilization for the production of powders from the microcapsules. The stability and characteristics analyzes of the product showed positive results, being a viable alternative for the addition of lipids to human milk. Future analyzes will allow the study of the behavior of the product added to human milk and will subsidize research on human milk additives for vulnerable children. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Establishing criteria for standardized, more aggressive enteral nutrition, with a start of trophic feeding within the first 24 hours and the gradual advancement of enteral feeding, appears to have a positive effect in preventing postnatal malnutrition in preterm and low birth weight infants. The aim of this study was to synthesize the knowledge evidenced in the scientific literature on early enteral nutrition, trophic and fast diet, comparing several studies on the subject. It is an integrative review, with research with secondary data collection. The scientific articles of this study belong to the LILACS and MEDLINE databases, with the following descriptors: "infant premature", "nutrition therapy" e "recommended dietary allowances". Early and fast nutrition promoted weight gain, neurological development, faster full nutrition, reduced hospitalization, and necrotizing enterocolitis, among other outcomes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The oropharyngeal administration of colostrum in preterm newborns may offer immunological benefits through the contact of protective biofactors with oropharyngeal-associated lymphoid tissue. The objective was to elucidate the influence of maternal colostrum administration in the oropharynx of premature babies with clinical suspicion of early neonatal sepsis. We selected twenty newborns, admitted to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) of a public hospital during the study period. Raw colostrum was placed on the oropharyngeal mucosa until the 5th day of life. Blood samples were collected to complement the diagnosis. The study concluded that newborns who received oral colostrum in the first days of life reached birth weight faster than babies who did not. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

To identify the dietary profile of premature newborns admitted to a Neonatal Unit of a federal public maternity hospital in the city of Rio de Janeiro. This is an excerpt from a descriptive, retrospective study with a quantitative approach, based on the review of medical records analyzed using simple descriptive statistics. The most prevalent diet was the enteral diet (65.63%), followed by the oral diet (33.33%). The average in days of each one was 26 days in enteral diet, eight days in oral diet. Mostly used techniques were gavage (57.29%), breastfeeding (27.08%), cup (8.33%), gastroclysis (4.17%) and bottle feeding (3.13%). The current research has made it possible to know the dietary profile of preterm infants in terms of their growth and also through the practices carried out in the unit, in addition to detailing how this transition process occurs during hospitalization, as well as the main complications encountered during this period.

Qualified care for premature newborns has promoted scientific and technological advances that have contributed to reducing neonatal morbidity and mortality. The use of balance nets, redeterapia can help control the heart rate and breathing of babies, according to the evidence. The aim of this study was to verify the perception of nurses about the use of redeterapy in newborns in neonatal intensive care units. For this, a field study with a qualitative approach was carried out, carried out in two reference maternity hospitals in the care of the newborn. Twenty highlevel nursing professionals from the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit sector were part of the sample. The data analysis was performed using the content analysis technique proposed by Bardin, with two categories emerging: Conceptions about the use of redeterapy in nurses' care for PTNB; Daily care challenges regarding the use of redeterapy by nurses; and benefits of PTN redeterapy.

- Abstract
Introduction: The preterm newborn (PTNB) is the baby born after the termination of pregnancy before completing 37 weeks of gestation. In view of the numerous consequences of this early birth, the sensation of pain is identified with greater intensity, as its inhibitory pathways are not fully developed in PTNB. Many resources have been suggested as promoters of well-being and consequent pain reduction in physical therapy interventions in PTNBs, such as the hot tub. Objective: This integrative review sought to identify the benefits of the hot tub on the well-being of newborns related to pain. Methodology: This integrative review was carried out using current bibliographic references that address the health of the PTNB and the hot tub, as an aquatic physiotherapy technique capable of promoting the well-being and reducing pain of these babies. Conclusion: Based on the consulted literature, it was possible to identify that the hot tub is able to offer PTNB a humanized approach, considered one of the most indicated techniques. It promotes an adaptive improvement to the environment, pain relief, weight gain, decreased heart rate and irritability. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Promoting physical contact, especially skin-to-skin contact, immediately or as soon as possible in preterm newborns is still a challenge. Objective: To determine the prevalence of physical contact between mothers and preterm newborns at birth and to analyze the association between the type of physical contact between them in the delivery room and the prevalence of exclusive breastfeeding at hospital discharge. Methodology: Cross-sectional study with a nonprobability sample of 78 mothers and 79 preterm newborns. Data were collected from July to November 2017, through interviews and medical records, and analyzed through descriptive statistics and Poisson Regression with robust variance. Results: The prevalence of any type of physical contact in the delivery room was 51.9%, without statistical difference between the type of physical contact between mothers and infants and exclusive breastfeeding at discharge. Conclusion: Physical contact by touching and kissing after birth did not influence the prevalence of exclusive breastfeeding at hospital discharge., Marco contextual: Promover el contacto físico, especialmente piel con piel, de forma inmediata o precoz en recién nacidos prematuros sigue siendo un desafío.

Abstract Objective To analyze the stress-related factors of parents of newborns hospitalized in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Methods This is a cross-sectional study developed with 204 parents present in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in the state of Rio Grande do Sul. For data collection, we used an instrument to characterize participants and the Brazilian version of the Parental Stress Scale: Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Data were analyzed using the Mann-Whitney and Kruskal-Wallis tests. Results The sociodemographic variables that were associated with higher levels of stress were sex, previous experience with neonatal unit, education and religion. And the clinical variables of newborns were hospitalization unit, respiratory and intravenous therapies and previous surgical procedure. Conclusion Female participants, who had no previous experience with a neonatal unit, with higher education and religion, had higher levels of stress, as well as those who had their children hospitalized in the high-risk unit, with respiratory support, use of two intravenous devices and with previous history of surgical procedure.
