The accurate visualization of the endodontic system before root canal treatment is the premise for the predictable positive outcome of the clinical procedures. The conventional X-ray gives a two dimensional view of a tridimensional reality. There are anatomy details impossible to detect with 2D imaging. The Cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) gives us the possibility to view and understand the special morphology of the anatomic structures of the teeth, bone and surrounding tissues. CBCT should be standard of care when 3D imaging is necessary in endodontics. CBCT helps us visualize the root canal anatomy: number of roots and root canals, shape, cross sections, curvatures, volume of the root canals; also obscure or missed canals, proximity to the mandibular canal (IAN) or the sinus. Examining the root canal system in three dimensions is actually a great asset for the endodontic treatment. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
