The effects of mobile communications on the population, primarily on children and adolescents as the cohort most vulnerable to any environmental factors, dictates the need for a thorough investigation into the impact of radio frequency electromagnetic fields (RF EMF) on the central nervous system (CNS) as the main target of their action. In this regard, the analysis of experimental data as an indirect assessment of possible negative changes in the body of young animals under the influence of RF EMF, including 5G and Wi-Fi, is highly relevant. We performed a systematization of experimental data, which will be presented in two parts: in vitro and in vivo experiments. This article introduces materials indicating both diversity of approaches to studying the effects of RF EMF on the central nervous system and difficulties of systematizing the results of the experiments. The analysis of literature data showed that, despite the numerous studies into the effects of RF EMF in vitro, CNS cell cultures are used rather rarely. However, this paper examines in detail the results of in vitro experiments: changes in the action potential, morphological changes in cells and the myelin sheath, and changes in the permeability of the blood–brain barrier (using cultures of only nerve cells). It was established that, despite some inconsistency in the results obtained, most studies indicate a negative effect of RF EMF on CNS cells. The morphological and histological changes in CNS structures under the influence of RF EMF will be presented in the next part of the review.

Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH) is a rare disease with hitherto unknown etiology and pathogenesis. It is extremely rare for clinicians to encounter histiocytic lesions of the central nervous system (CNS); the proportion of cases of which is only 1–4% of all polysystemic and multifocal bone lesions. The paper describes a clinical case of fixation amnesia in a female patient with focal brain lesions in LCH. It depicts the most characteristic clinical features and presents an algorithm for the diagnosis of histiocytic brain lesion. The results of the experimental psychological examination of the patient are considered in detail and the clinical presentations of fixation amnesia are described. There are neuroimaging data showing the lesions in the hypothalamic-pituitary region and temporal bone, which involve the auditory structures. The clinical findings have led to the conclusion that both the clinical and neuroimaging patterns of histiocytic lesions in the CNS are non-specific, which complicates the diagnostic search in LCH. For correct diagnosis and timely treatment, it is necessary to perform a biopsy of the pathological focus, followed by histological and immunohistochemical examination of the material.

The paper describes two patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) with severe nervous system damage characterized by diffuse and focal neuropsychiatric manifestations of SLE due to of the central nervous system involvement and damage to the peripheral nervous system as local mononeuritis of the lower extremities in one case and severe peripheral neuropathy manifested by multiple mononeuritis of the lower extremities in the other. Anti-B cell therapy with rituximab is noted to have an effect.

W 50% przypadków rozwija się w komorze bocznej, w 40% w komorze IV i w 5% w komorze III. Guzy splotu naczyniówkowego występują przede wszystkim w 1. dekadzie życia. Guz produkuje płyn mózgowo - rdzeniowy, co przyczynia się do wodogłowia i nadciśnienia śródczaszkowego. Histologicznie zbudowany jest ze struktur brodawkowatych, utworzonych przez cylindrycznego kształtu komórki spoczywające na błonie podstawnej. Abstract Choroid plexus papilloma is a rare cancer of the central nervous system, derived from epithelial cells of the choroid plexus of the ventricular system of the brain. In 50% of cases resolve the side chamber, and in 40% in the fourth chamber and 5% in the third ventricle. Choroid plexus tumors occur primarily in the first decade of life. The tumor produces cerebrospinal fluid, which contributes to hydrocephalus and brain edema. Histologically is built with papillary structures formed by the cylindrical shape of the cells resting on the basilar membrane. The authors present a case of clinical patient operating treated in the Department of Neurosurgery, Neurotraumatology and Pediatric Neurosurgery, Dr Antoni Jurasz University Hospital No.1 in Bydgoszcz histopathological diagnosed with choroid plexus papilloma.
