This publication deals with the problems pertaining to the improvement of the system of the post-graduate education in otorhinolaryngology with special reference to one of its topical fields, clinical rhinology. The authors emphasize the importance of one of the principal components of the post-graduate education under the present-day conditions, namely organization of control and self-control of learning the new material, self-monitoring and individual correction of the level of knowledge. Special attention is given to the training tests that can be used to adequately simulate the decision-making process with respect to a concrete clinical situation. It is concluded that the systematic application of test control is one of the most important prerequisites for the enhancement of the effectiveness of the post-graduate education in clinical otorhinolaryngology.

The paper considers the topical hygienic aspects of education and adaptation improvement in senior (fourth-year) medical students from the Faculty of Medical Prevention.

The authors suggest evaluation of the qualification of a general surgeon by means of an individual coefficient-rating which is determined from 2 tables: basic and working. Its value is expressed in scores and depends, on the main, on the number of operations carried out during the year. Comparison of the rating in dynamics for several years facilitates the control over the surgeon's professional background, optimal formation of the operating team, and reduction of the degree of operative risk.

Based on many years of experience with the training in reflexotherapy, the authors have worked out staged mastering of the material, with emphasis laid on independent seizing of practical skills. The possibilities of mastering diagnostic instruments employed in acupuncture have been widened. The tests to control the acquired knowledge and practical skills have been suggested.

Analysis of an anonymous questionnaire given to 100 pediatricians at the postgraduate training department is given. Questions involved routes of infection, early detection, clinical aspects and prevention of tuberculosis in children and adolescents. The most typical aspects of inadequate knowledge of phthisiatrics by pediatricians were defined, which may negatively affect the antituberculosis aid given to children and adolescents. The findings were used for the adjustment of a program and the content of phthisiatrics training at the postgraduate training department.
