The study focuses on hyperbaric oxygenation (HBO) influence on the intracranial pressure (ICP) in patients with intracranial hemorrhages. Forty eight hyperbaric oxygenation sessions in 21 mechanically ventilated patients with intracranial hemorrhages were analyzed. HBO was accompanied by ICP increase in 31,3% of cases. ICP was stable during 54,2% of sessions and decreased during 14,5% of sessions. We didn 't find any relation between ICP dynamics and PaCO2. ICP increase correlated with mean BP dynamics which growth by 11% and more was an indicator of intracranial hypertension.

The clinical course of infectious endocardities (IE) was followed in 112 patients admitted to the Botkin City Hospital in 2000-2007 with reference to the age and social structure of the pathology, its clinical symptoms, results of laboratory and instrumental analysis, strategy of antibacterial therapy, and outcome of the disease. The data were compared with those obtained in the previous period (1987-1955). He study demonstrated an increased number of men with IE (up to 65%) in the recent years and an almost two-fold rise in the incidence of primary endocardities. The frequency of thromboembolic complications also increased (from 34 to 69%) involving the pulmonary artery system (24%). The same refers to the number of patients with multivalvular lesions (2, 3 or 4 heart valves) and affected right cardiac chambers (28.4%). Shortcomings at various stages of the treatment of patients with endocarditis have been revealed.

Cystatin C is a low-molecular endogenous inhibitor of cysteic proteinases. Sets for immune-enzyme assay of cystatin C in human blood serum (KRKK, Slovenia) were made used of in the case study. The concentration of cystatin C (CCC) in blood serum was found to be higher in cases of certain hemoblastoses (Non-Hodgkin's disease, lymphogranulomatosis and multiple myeloma), with the highest concentration of the inhibitor being observed in patients with resistance to the conducted polychemotherapy and a poor prognostication. The treatment of Non-Hodgkin's disease and of lymphogranulomatosis brought about a normalized CCC in blood serum. It was suggested that CCC in blood serum reflects a nature of tumor growth and, obviously, it can be a criterion in assessing the therapy efficiency. The concentration of alpha 1-proteinases inhibitor remained unchanged before and after treatment.

Serpin alpha-1-proteinase inhibitor have been studied in human subjects and in mice of different lines as acute phase reactant and during tumor development. In humans, there was no difference of serpin activity between men and women. Increased activity was noted in men with acute trauma (acute phase reaction). Comparatively to male, in female mice of different lines decreased activity of serum alpha-1-proteinase inhibitor, was shown. There was no increase of alpha-1-proteinase inhibitor activity during inflammation induced by zymosan administration in mice. alpha-1-proteinase inhibitor belongs to acute phase reactants in humans but not in mice; for mice alpha-2-macroglobulin is a more typical acute phase reactant as compared to alpha-1-proteinase inhibitor. Murine tumor development (hepatoma HA-1, lymphosarcoma LS, Lewis lung adenocarcinoma) was followed by a decreased activity of serum alpha-1-proteinase inhibitor both in successfully treated and untreated groups. According to data of literature, similar dated were obtained in humans with tumors. It was suggested that changes of expressiln of alpha-1-proteinase inhibitor by tumors and its secretion were involved in decreased activity of alpha-1-proteinase inhibitor.

The role of macrophage (Kupffer cell) stimulation and suppression in the development of a toxic liver damage was studied in rats with acute hepatitis induced by paracetamol (acetaminophen, 1000 mg/kg). Pretreatment with carboxymethylated (1-->3)-beta-D-glucan (25 mg/kg, i.p., 48 h before paracetamol) for the macrophage stimulation or with gadolinium chloride (GdCl3, 7.5 mg/kg, i.v., 24 h before paracetamol) for the macrophage suppression has a protective effect manifested by normalization of the liver function test parameters and by a decrease in the degree of morphological changes in the liver cells. A relation between these positive effects and the TNF-alpha secretion by macrophages is discussed.

Chronic experiments conducted on 17 dogs whose ureters were brought out on the skin of the abdomen showed that administration of solutions of saccharose (1150 mmol/l) and NaCl (515 mmol/l) into the right atrium reduces diuresis and increases natriuresis. The concentration of atrial natriuretic factor in the blood does not change, vasopressin and cortisol secretion increases while that of aldosterone decreases. It is concluded that, in addition to the cardiopeptide mechanism regulating the blood volume, the right atrium possesses a reflex osmoregulatory mechanism.

The chronic emotional pain stress resulting in a development of neurosis-like state in rats induced an increase of arterial pressure and change of the cardiac rate dynamics under the conditions of functional load. An increase of cardiac mass was also seen without change of masses of the thymus, adrenal glands and the spleen. The rise of activity of cytochromeoxidase and activation of peroxide lipide oxidation (by malonate dialdehyde level) were observed in the cerebral cortex and the hippocampus of neurotized rats. Injection of antioxidant F-801 before each emotional pain stress trial prevented vegetative disturbances, cardiac hypertrophy, and increase of oxidative activity in the brain. The role of peroxide lipide oxidation and that of the factor of hypoxia in development of disturbances caused by neurotization were discussed.

To understand the molecular mechanisms of damages appearing in biological membranes in the process of cellular aging, changes in the rate of catabolic processes in Mycoplasma cells have been studied. This study has revealed that the aging of Acholeplasma laidlawii culture is accompanied by a decrease in the activity of such catabolic enzymes as DNA-ase, RNA-ase, cathepsin D and beta-glucosidase. A considerable increase in the duration of the half-life of membrane proteins has been registered, which is indicative of a decrease in their turnover rate. The electrophoretic separation of membrane proteins has revealed essential changes in their properties. Such decline in the functional activity of the plasma membrane of Mycoplasma cells at the stationary phase is probably due to the inactivation of membrane enzymes and to the decreased rate of their turnover.

Chronic emotional painful stress (EPS) in rats brought about blood pressure elevation and changes in the time-course of the heart rate under functional load (hypokinesia for 2 h). There was also an increase in the heart mass and activation of cytochromoxidase in the brain cortex and hippocamp. Chronic administration of the antioxidant F-801 for EPS prevented vegetative disorders, heart hypertrophy and elevation of oxidative activity in the brain. The role of lipid peroxidation and hypoxia in the development of abnormalities caused by neurotization is discussed.

In the experiments on the progeny of ethanol-exposed rats it was shown that consumption of 15% alcohol instead of water during pregnancy resulted in the worsening of shuttlebox avoidance learning and decrease in succinate dehydrogenase activity in the visual and sensorimotor cortex. These data are indicative of cerebral hypoxia during embryogenesis. The injection of synthetic opioid peptide dalargin during critical periods of development (at the end of embryogenesis and early ontogeny) prevented partially the disturbances of higher nervous activity and tissue breathing which were induced by alcohol intoxication. Possible mechanisms of positive dalargin effect are discussed.

In the visual and sensomotor cortical areas of neurotized rats, velocity of local cerebral blood flow (vLCBF) was measured by the method of hydrogen clearance in 4-6 weeks after the termination of neurotization. No significant decrease of vLCBF which had been observed at the late stages of neurotization, was found in the animals under study. However noticeable vLCBF oscillations indicated vegetovascular dystonia. Disturbances in vLCBF controlling system are supposed to be one of remote sequelae of neurotization.

Behavior of mature rats, who had been exposed antenatally to intrauterine alcoholic intoxication, was studied in the open field settings, unavoidable swimming and Simonov's emotional resonance situations; their conditioned reflexes of passive and active avoidance were trained, arterial blood pressure was measured, and sleeping patterns examined. It was demonstrated that animals' orientation/exploration activity was reduced, while passive behavior and fear-associated emotions became more prominent, conditioned reflexes were more difficult to form, vegetative autoregulation was disturbed, and insomniac disturbances were in evidence as a result of intrauterine alcoholic intoxication. It is suggested that the above-listed disorders are rooted in hypoxic cerebral changes, induced by pathogenic effects of alcohol on the embryonal and fetal central nervous system.

Male albino rats were exposed to daily emotional painful stress (EPS) for 4 weeks. The arterial blood pressure of the stressed animals increased and the dynamics of the heart rate changed after functional loading (hypokinesis during one or two hours) as compared with the control group. The increase of the heart weight and activation of cytochrome oxidase activity in the cerebral cortex and hippocampus of rats exposed to EPS were also demonstrated. The use of 20% ethyl alcohol instead of drinking water during EPS partially prevented vegetative disturbances and activation of hippocampal cytochrome oxidase and fully prevented the heart hypertrophy and activation of the enzyme in the cortex. Alcoholization resulted in the increased weight of the spleen and brown adipose tissue and thymus involution. A possible mechanism of the antistress action of alcohol linked with normalization of intensified lipid peroxidation under stress is discussed.
