At present due to the environmental contamination by heavy metals there is a great interest to investigate the processes of their both accumulation in plants and toxic effect on biochemical indices. Therefore the objective of this research was the analysis of the alteration of the system of antioxidant protection ofplants in conditions of soil contamination by copper and zinc. Research object were germinants of oat in amount of300 plants in each variant of the experiment. For the performance of the experiment, the sand was equally contaminated by sulfates of Cu and Zn in concentration of 2 MPC on its gross content in soil. The experiment lastedfor 2 weeks. For the implementation of the objective of research there was analyzed the contentof both Cu and Zn in plants exposed to soil contamination. Additionally there was performed an analysis of as the content of lipids peroxidation products, phenols and flavonoids; as well the activity ofperoxidase, catalase and photosynthetic system. Under the soil contamination by copper and zinc corresponding to 2 MPC the accumulation of heavy metals was established to be happening in plants. If compared copper accumulation was higher than zinc accumulation that can be explained by the high migration capability of zinc. Under combined impact of two metals there was revealed their antagonistic interaction. There was established an elevated content of lipids peroxidation products in cells as a sequence of the accumulation of heavy metals in plants. As a result of the elevation of the content of lipids peroxidation products there was revealed a raised activity ofphotosynthetic apparatus and antioxidant system (carotenoids, catalase and peroxidase) in the cell. The decrease of the content ofphenols and flavonoids is related with the usage of this system of antioxidant protection for the neutralization of lipids peroxidation processes.

Monitoring of environment in regions of the location of waste landfills includes the implementation of the control over a sanitary condition of soils. The main origins of the spread ofpollutants into soils are the solid particles from aerosol emissions from the functioning of landfills transmitted to surrounding territories. Within zones of the impact of three largest waste landfills in the Saratov region (Aleksandrovsky, Guselsky in the city of Saratov and Balakovsky in the city of Balakovo) there were taken 152 soil samples. According to results of the estimation in soil concentration of gross and motile forms of heavy metals of the first (Zn, Cd, Ni) and the second danger classes (Cu, Cr, Pb) there was performed the analysis of coefficients of danger- K0 and total coefficients ofpollution - Zc. There was executed the assessment of both a sanitary and hygienic condition of soils and degree of danger ofpollution. The most contrast areal features of the distribution of the danger coefficient - Ko in soils are characteristic for motile forms of heavy metals. For all three studied objects persistently there is stood out the dangerous and areal pollution of soils by association of Ni and Cu . The danger ofpollution of soils by gross forms of heavy metals is minimum. The coefficient of total pollution of Zc exceeds admissible level on motile forms of heavy metals only for the soils surrounding the Balakovo landfill. In zones of the impact of waste landfills there are located the processed lands with an adverse sanitary and hygienic condition of soils. In the region of the Guselsky object soils of the processed agricultural grounds are dangerously polluted by motile forms of Ni and Cu. In vicinities of the Balakovo waste landfill considerable areas of private gardening enterprises are dangerously polluted by the motile forms of Ni, Cu and Zn.

The article contains the results of the ecological and hygienic diagnostics of conditions of lands of areas of different sizes and varying degrees of urbanization, located in different agro-climatic conditions of European Russia (the southern Astrakhan region, he city of Moscow). Assessments of the state of territories use a new approach to rationing of Hg according to quantitative ratios of the content of its thermoforms in soils, grounds and alluvium (in litho substrate). The method of diagnostics is based on known properties of Hg forms: their geochemical activity (migration mobility) and toxicity decline along with the increment of the Hg temperature threshold of the release in the process of continuous warming up of the litho substrate sample (up to 1100°C). Thermoforms are not tied to specific minerals or chemicals and are conditionally designated as FR (Free: <180°C), CL (Chloride: 180-250°C), FS and CS (physically and chemically sorbed: 250-400°C), SU (Sulfide: 400-500°C) IS (isomorphic: >500°C) Hg forms. Among forms, also conditionally according to complexes of low, medium and high temperature variations(FR + CL, FS + CS and SU + IZ, respectively, there are selected groups of «mobile», «sustainable» and «inert» forms. For technogenic Hg there is characterized the predominance in the sample of «mobile» and to lesser extent degree - «stable» thermoforms. The more intensive this predominance is, the higher is environmental hazard. The natural accumulation is diagnosed by the presence and prevalence of the sum of moderate - and high-temperature inert forms of Hg. According to the ratios of Hg content, its forms and groups, as well as the density of correlationships between them, 6 indices of the conditions of soils and alluvium were developed by ourselves.Main coefficients out of indices on informativeness of results of diagnostics are the following factors: Endogenous input, Geochemical activity and Hg mobility. With regard to the combination of variability in indices, the total amount of Hg, the genesis and intensity of its accumulation (natural or anthropogenic), there were also developed ranking scales of the ecological and hygienic condition of the land areas and surface water bodies. As a result, on the base of such approach to the regulation of Hg the information value of assessments of mercury contamination of land significantly increased. At the objects of assessments there were identified following areas: foci of the manifestation of Hg hypolimnetic emanations on the landscape surface - dispersion halos in the areas of the Earth crust fracture (the dome of the Astrakhan gas condensate field); environmentally dangerous (sometimes even at a low total content of Hg) parts of cities, towns, their districts, as well as beds of watercourses and water reservoirs bottom (the Volga river valley and delta, the Lefortovo quarter in Moscow). There was also diagnosed the threshold of the background distribution of gross Hg content detected = 0.2-0.3 mg/kg. Its magnitude is consistent with domestic and abroad safe levels of Hg accumulation in soils = 0.3-0.4 mg/kg. The approach provides the differentiation of the environmental hazard lands. Technology of the approach can be used in the development of normative Document for the diagnosis of environmental and sanitary condition of territories in the system of Classifications of hazard of waste, in decontamination of territories, water areas and land zoning according to the criteria of natural or anthropogenic Hg accumulation.

Application of pesticides in modern agriculture is a powerful permanent risk factor for public health and the natural environment. The aim of the study was a comparative hygienic assessment of soil pollution hazards by the most widely used herbicides of different chemical classes (sulfonylureas, imidazolinones, pyrimidinyl (thio) benzoates, semicarbazones). Hygienic field experiment for studying of the dynamics of residual amounts of the test substances in the soil under different climatic zones of Ukraine was conducted. Half life periods (DT50) or herbicides in soil were calculated using the method of mathematical modeling. Ecotoxicological risk of herbicides on ecosystems and ecological communities was determined. It was established that bispyribac-sodium (pyrimidinyl (thio) benzoates) and imidazolinones are persist the longest time in soil and most rapidly degradable is diflufenzopyr (semicarbazone); ecotoxicological risk of the studied herbicides for terrestrial biocenoses of Ukraine by 4-6 orders of magnitude lower than dihlordifeniltrihlormetilmetan (DDT).

The paper presents data on the hygienic assessment of the content of heavy metals and petroleum products in the soil on the territory of oil-producing areas of the Republic of Tatarstan. The average total content of lead (10,1 mg/kg), cadmium (0.073 mg/kg), manganese (792.4 mg/kg), cobalt (14.2 mg/kg), chromium (87.6 mg/kg), nickel (65.2 mg/ kg), arsenic (8.0 mg/kg), copper (36.6 mg/kg) and zinc (521 mg/kg) in soil for agricultural purposes near objects oil production was shown not to exceed the established hygienic standards. Soil contamination with oil products leads to an increase in its toxicity and mutagenicity. Soil contamination with oil products at the level of as low as 30 mg/ kg leads to the gain in its toxicity (low toxicity) and mutagenicity (average) (specific gravity of germinated seeds was 70.7±0.67%, aberrations - 1.78±0.19%).

The article covers a problem of soil pollution degree, that can be caused by industrial releases into atmosphere.

In the article there is given a hygienic assessment ofpolychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) contamination of soils of the city of Serpukhov of the Moscow region. For the first time there was investigated the PCB's ability to migrate in the system "soil-earthworms", and were calculated bioaccumulation factors at the different level of soil contamination. There was performed a comparative evaluation of the accumulation of given contaminants by higher terrestrial plants and representatives of soil paedobionts (Lumbricidae worms), and revealed clear differences in these processes. There was shown the possibility of the use of earthworms as a highly sensitive bio-indicators in monitoring for soil contamination by persistent organic pollutants, even at low concentrations.

Assessment of the soil quality is ofprime importance essential for the characterization of the ecological and hygienic condition of the territory, as the soil is the first link of the food chain, the source of secondary air and water pollution, as well as an integral index of ecological well-being of the environment. Herewith the qualitative analysis of soil complicated by the specifics of the soil genesis in the urban environment, in which an important role is played by manmade land bulk and alluvial soils; the inclusion of construction of material debris and household garbage in upper horizons; the growing up of the profile due to the perpetual introduction of different materials and intensive aeolian deposition. It is advisable to consider the currently neglected question of the study of soil vapor containing volatile chemicals. These pollutants penetrate into the building through cracks in the foundation and openings for utilities. Soil evaporation may accumulate in residential areas or in the soil under the building. Because of this, it is necessary to pay attention to the remediation of areas allocated for the built-up area, possessing a large-scale underground parking. Soil contamination is the result of significant anthropogenic impacts on the environment components. In general, about 89.1 million people (62.6% of the population of the country) live in terms of complex chemical load, determined by contamination offood, drinking water, air and soil. The list of microbiological and sanitary-chemical indices of the assessment of soils of urban areas may vary in dependence on the data obtained in pilot studies due to changes and additions to the assigned tasks. Timely forecast for the possibility of the usage of released lands of urban territories for the construction and the creation of new objects for different purposes should become the prevention of chronic non-infectious diseases in the population residing in urban areas.

With the use of the method of inversion voltammetry there was analyzed the content of movableforms of trace elements: (selenium, zinc, copper lead, cadmium) in soils in the Yaroslavl district of the Yaroslavl region, and also content of zinc, copper lead, cadmium in soils and snow cover in the city of Yaroslavl. According to values of concentrations of movable compounds in soils determined trace elements can be ranked into the following row: zinc > lead > copper > selenium > cadmium. There was revealed insufficient if compared with literature data concentrations, content of movable compounds of selenium, copper and zinc in examined explored soils. The maximal concentrations of lead are revealed in the close proximity to both the city of Yaroslavl and large highways of the city. It indicates to the anthropogenic pollution of soils by this element.

For the assurance of the safe regulations for the use in agriculture persistent in soil insecticide neonicotinoids derivative, studies have been executed to investigate its impact on the soil microbiocenosis and migration to the neighboring environment of the active ingredient of this pesticide and the preparation based on it. On the ground of obtained experimental data there were determined threshold doses for the following indices of the harmfulness: migration-water, translocation (transmission into plants) and general sanitary indices. There were established limiting indices of the harmfulness: translocation and migration-water indices. The maximum permissible concentration (MPC) of neonicotinoids derivative in the soil accounted for 0.5 mg/kg of the soil. This content of the pesticide in the soil prevents its accumulation in plants in concentrations exceeding the maximum permissible levels (MPLs), in food products, it fails both to give rise in its transition in groundwater above the MPL for water reservoirs and influence on the soil microbiocenosis and self-purification processes.

The main sources of soil contamination by oil products in the Dnepropetrovsk region are oil depots, gas stations and all types of transport that use and transport oil. The diesel fuel was found to be the one of the priority multicomponent components of the petroleum products, so it there was occurred the necessity for the hygienic regulation of the oil component in order to monitor a multicomponent composition ofpetroleum products in the study of complex influence of environmental factors on health population. In the study of the effect of various concentrations of diesel fuel on the number of total bacterial count (TBC) as the threshold for general sanitary indicator of hazard, there was recommended the concentration of4000 mg/kg, which oppressed the vital activity of soil microorganisms by 50-27.3% for the first 2 weeks of the laboratory experiment.

The paper presents information about the content of benzo(a)pyrene in soil samples of petroleum products and the content of heavy metals (iron, copper, lead, arsenic, manganese, chromium, cadmium and mercury) in the soil and hair samples of children. Soil samples and hair were taken in October 2014 in the north-western part of the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous District. The values obtained were compared with the approximately permissible levels and maximum allowable concentrations adopted in the Russian Federation. Levels are determined compounds in the soil in general do not exceed the allowable concentrations. In hair samples there was noted marked exceeding of the recommended values for zinc, copper, chromium and iron 10%, 16.7%, 83.3% and 100% samples, respectively. The cause of the high iron content in the hair samples may be due to the quality of consumed water, which is characterized by low mineralization and high iron content. Increased chromium content of more than 80% of the hair samples can be caused, as in the case of iron, the quality of water consumed, but also a high proportion of local foods in the diet of people, rich by chromium. A conducted study on the state of the environment in the village, away from areas of hydrocarbon production, indicates to the low importance of anthropogenic impact.

In August 2015 there were executed investigations on the study of the soils diversity of the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug. One of the directions of this work got be the study of urban soils of settlements of the Yamal-Nenents Autonomous Okrug. The sectors for the observation were settlement of Harsaim, village Aksarka, city of Salekhard, settlement Harp and city of Labytnangi. About 20 soil samples were collected during the field work. Samples were collected from a depth of 0-5 cm and 5-20 cm. Heavy metals (HM) were detected with the use of X-ray fluorescent analyzer “Spectroscan-MAX”. The HM content values were compared with the corresponding Approxible Permissible Concentrations and Maximum Allowable Concentrations (MAC) adopted in Russia. Hydrocarbons content was determined by gravimetric method. Values of the hydrocarbons content in studied soils were compared with the existing regulations of the Russian Federation. The levels of soil contamination by hydrocarbons were determined. The study of soil samples from different settlements allowed to reveal characteristic features of soil contamination of separate settlements by HM and hydrocarbons and to compare them against each other. The vast majority of samples are characterized by arsenic exceedance of MAC, which should indicate to a high regional background of this element. For a more adequate assessment of the Zc meaning as the value of the total pollution index of soils there were used not only arithmetical average values of the coefficients of the chemical composition concentration (Kc), but also their average geometric values. According to levels of total soil contamination most of soil samples are characterized as non-hazardous (Zc<16). Calculation of soil pollution index showed that the most of soil samples have values less than 1. It characterizes soils as unpolluted. Statistical processing of obtained data in the media of the analytical software interface STATISTICA 10 showed a statistically significant difference in the content ofHM and hydrocarbons for the layer of 0-20 cm of the soils for three elements (Cu, Zn, Ni).

Dumps of quarries for the extraction of copper pyrite in Urals region of the Bashkortostan Republic are the problem object, which represents a main technogenic source of environmental pollution. Soils of Sibaisky quarry dumps are characterized by the elevated content of heavy metals relatively to maximum permissible concentrations and regional geochemical background. In sanitary hygienic evaluation of the pollution by studied technosols according to the total pollution index (Zc) it was revealed that according to the content of total forms studied technosols are referred to moderately hazard, while in regards of the same index concerning the content of the mobile forms technosols are referred to the category of hazardous. In this regard, in plant products grown in the area adjacent to the dumps, there was revealed an excess on cadmium. The biological activity of soils is very low, due to the low microbial community development. Soil formation in the dumps is almost not expressed, appearing in the formation of low-thick underdeveloped humus horizon with a little diversity of species and projective cover. Sanitary-hygienic situation in conditions in the quarry dump area is unfavorable, that does not allow newly formed soils to carry out environmental functions effectively

Wastes and tailing ponds of Tyrnyauz tungsten and molybdenum factory are the main sources of heavy metal incoming into environment in Kabardino-Balkarian Republic. The factory was closed more than 10 years ago and the recultivation of it’s tailing ponds, where accumulated hundreds of millions tones of wastes, was completed. The aim of this investigation was an assessment of their possible influence on children residing in the vicinity of these tailing ponds (village Bylym). Village Verhny Baksan located about 30 km upstream of the valley of the Baksan River was chosen as reference (pure) locality. As a results of the performed investigations we revealed that in drinking water of Bylym and Verhny Baksan concentrations of molybdenum were 2.10±0.42 pg/l and 0.31±0.15 pg/l correspondingly, which is remarkably lower than maximum permitted concentrations. The concentrations of Mo, Cu and Pb in children’s hair in both villages were practically the same, which indicates to the absence of their accumulation in human organism. But the quantity of cells with cytogenetic disorders in buccal epithelial cells in children from Bylym was 4.1 times higher in comparison with the corresponding index of uncontaminated area. The obtained data demonstrate that genotoxic effect of remedied tailing ponds retains.

On the example of urban soils of the city of Voronezh there was revealed dependence of the degree of the disturbance of complexes of filamentous microorganisms on soil contamination levels. For the complex of micromycetes in the recreational area of the city disturbances are reversible and correspond to the adaptive range of "stress". In the transport an irreversible transition originates to the adaptive range of "resistance". There are accumulated toxigenic, opportunistic and allergenic fungi species that is harmful to the health of the urban population. The complex of soil actinomycetes is more sustainable. Microbiological indices (lists of indicative species of fungi) should be used for the monitoring of urban soils.

This study is devoted to the investigation of quantitative and qualitative composition and distribution of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in urban soils on the example of recreational, residential and industrial areas of Saint-Petersburg (Russia). The evaluation of soil contamination levels with heavy metals and metalloids of the first and second classes of hazard is given as well. Total PAH content in soils of the studied area in most cases exceeds international soil quality guideline values (1 mg/kg), varying from 0.67 to 17.45 mg/kg. In most samples benzo[a] pyrene concentrations were found to be higher than MPC for this substance in soil. Calculated BaP-equivalents of PAHs indicate to the high carcinogenic risk for health, associated with soil contamination. Mean PAH concentrations in soil differ authentically between various types of functional zones and in the whole of the city. The significant positive correlation between soil organic content and PAH levels in soils was revealed in most samples. Calculated values of the total index of soil contamination (Zc) by heavy metals and metalloids were characterized by low values (47.28-121.14), that corresponds to the category of dangerous pollution (32 < Z < 128).

In the article there is considered the question of the accumulation of heavy metals in soil and their uptake by plants as a result of prolonged use of sewage sludge as fertilizer. There have been calculated coefficients of concentrations of elements and the total pollution index. There was performed the comparison of the data obtained with accepted sanitary-hygienic standards.

Urban area ranking was performed according to the level of the heavy metal pollution based on the data of the snow and soil chemical characteristics. With reference to cumulative rates of the snow cover and soil pollution by heavy metals in the territory of the city of Kazan there were selected four areas: I--Derbyshki; II--Teplocontrol; III--Gorki; IV--Kirovsky district. The pollution level of snow cover in the territory of the city was determined by pollution level indices calculated with the application of Maximum Permissible Concentration (MPC) of chemical substances in ambient waters for household and recreational and service facilities use. The assessment of the pollution level in soils in the city showed the total territory of Kazan to be mildly polluted by manganese, concerning other heavy metals the categories of the soil pollution vary on areas. Results of hair biological monitoring in children are an informative auxiliary tool for the evaluation of the present ecological situation concerning heavy metals in certain territories of the city.

In 2013-2014, there was performed the study of the soil in the territory of the city of Novokuibyshevsk. The concentrations of heavy metals and petroleum products on the territory of the industrial zone of the city of Novokuibyshevsk were determined. The evaluation of concentrations ofanthropogenic toxicants was carried out in Novokuibyshevsk by means of laboratory monitoring of environmental pollution. The obtained values were compared with the MPC or in the absence of MPC--with tentatively permissible concentrations (TPC) of chemicals in soil background concentrations in the Volga region of Samara region, as well as with previous studies of the soil of the city of Novokuibyshevsk in 2005. The studies revealed that in 2014, if compared with 2005, concentrations of heavy metals in soil on the territory of the industrial zone of the city of Novokuibyshevsk and within the city border decreased. There were obtained significant differences in the soil content ofcadmium, copper, lead, Nickel and zinc in 2005 and 2013-2014. Unlike the content of salts of heavy metals, the content of petroleum products in the soil over the past 9 years had tended to increase. The maximum concentration of petroleum products was detected in the industrial zone of CHP-1. The number of samples with extremely high pollution rised from 4% to 8%, with high pollution--from 10% to 12%. Also, an increase in the number of samples with the level of 2-20 background values accounted from 56% to 66%. The gain in concentrations of petroleum in the soil on the territory of the city of Novokuibyshevsk was associated not only with the activity of the enterprises of oil refining and petrochemical industry, but also with the elevating number of road transport.

The monitoring of snow cover pollution by heavy metals and elements (zinc, copper, lead, cadmium, arsenic, nickel, chromium, strontium, manganese, fluorine, lithium) was performed in 20 districts of the Moscow region in 2009, 2012 and 2013. The assessment of the levels of contamination by heavy metals and elements was given by means of comparison of them with the average values in the snow cover near Moscow in the end of the last century and in some areas of the world, that no exposed to technological environmental impact. 7 districts of Moscow region were characterized by a high content of lead and cadmium in the snow water. It requires the control of water, soil and agricultural products pollution.

Comparative investigation of the soil contamination by polycyclic aromatic compounds (PAC) has been performed on examples of three polar stations of the Antarctic Peninsula. Data obtained are especially interesting for the Ukrainian Antarctic station "Academician Vernadsky" were no such investigations were performed since the technogenic spill of the hydrocarbons in 1992. Results of investigations permit to establish the values of the total background level of the PAC pollution as the base for the further monitoring of anthropogenic contamination. The data of analysis of soils from the all ecological zones of Point Thomas oasis (Polish Station "Genrik Artstovskiy") show the PAC homogenous background pollution to be similar to identified at the Galindez Island (the region of the station Academician Vernadskiy). Local pollutions are revealed in some areas of the Galindez Island. At the same time results of the investigation of the soils pollution from the various areas of the Fildes Peninsula (the station Bellingshausen.) show the absence of clearly pronounced contrast between the background and "hot points" that is likely related with the even pollution of the Peninsula. There was demonstrated the necessity of the development of regional standards and the establishment of a local background concentrations of PACs within the Antarctic Peninsula. At the same time, significant differences between the contamination of soils taken from the stations"Academician Vernadsky" and "Bellingshausen", apparently are associated with a lesser capacity of soils on the island Galindez that in the commensurable pollution creates greater concentrations in an investigated sample of the soil. There was shown the necessity of the development of the regional standard and the establishment of a local background concentrations of PACs within the Antarctic Peninsula.

The article deals with results of study covering influence of industrial pollution with mercury on its accumulation level in populated area objects and foods. Mercury content was measured in ambient air, snow, water, bed silt and regional foods of vegetable and animal origin--that is a potential health hazard for Central Kazakhstan population. The data obtained prove that high levels of mercury were detected in all the studied objects.

The evaluation of ecological and hygienic condition of the environment was performed by ourselves in the geographical center of New Moscow--in the city of Troitsk. There was made an analysis as the published results of similar assessments in the times of the 1990s, data of Federal Service for Supervision of Consumer Rights Protection and Human Welfare concerning the control for soils quality (at a single point of the city) and drinking water for 2010-2011, and the author's materials on the chemical contamination of soils and grounds in July 2013. Local foci of moderately dangerous pollution of soil were found at lots close to the motorway and in the Worsted factory: Zc (SrBaCrVNiCoCuAgZnPbBeMoWB) = 17-20, benzo (a) pyrene to 218 mcg/kg and Zn up to 233.4 mg/kg. At the point of monitoring soils complied with the requirements according to toxicological, microbiological and parasitological characteristics.. In the drinking tap water there was observed, along with the increased total hardness, the presence up to 1.6 MAC of such natural pollutants as F and Li. In the undergrounds potable water the situation is worsening according to the content of Si, As, B, Br, U. There was no monitoring of surface water and air. However, pockets of soil contamination trace the possible occurrence in the air near the ground of hygienically dangerous anomalies of heavy metals and hydrocarbons. Modern ecological and sanitary situation in Troitsk, in general, can be considered to be quite safe if compared to the quality of the environment in industrialized cities. The thing that does cause concern is the quality of drinking water.

Aim: To study the influence of environmental factors (EFs) on the development of cardiovascular diseases in the population of industrial towns of the Republic of Kazakhstan., Subjects and Methods: The investigation covered an 18-59-year-old adult population who had been living in the urbanized areas of the Republic of Kazakhstan for at least 10 years, who worked in harmless conditions and were unregistered as having chronic diseases. At Stage 1, screening (a therapist's examination, blood general and immunological tests, and electrocardiography) was carried out for risk group persons who underwent in-depth clinical examination (blood biochemical test) at Stage 2., Results: Multivariate statistical analysis has revealed that the development of hypertension is associated with the high concentration of sulfur dioxide in atmospheric air, copper in dust sediments, and zinc in soil and that of coronary heart disease (CHD) is related to the high levels of nitrogen dioxide in atmospheric air and zinc in dust sediments., Conclusion: Based on pathogenetic and statistical data and information available in the literature, hypertension and CHD are referred to as the diseases that may result from the influence of EFs.

In accordance with international approaches the ranking of permissible levels of chemicals in the soil for the Russian Federation was performed with the use of actual maximum permissible concentration (MPC), there were scientifically substantiated 33 standardsfor 26 substances and their combinations in the soil, differentiatedfor 6 groups offunctional areas for soil use. There is presented the algorithm determining the procedure for the establishment of MPC for unstudied chemicals for various functional areas of soil of populated areas, as well as draft of amendments to existing sanitary-hygienic regulations prior to processing the latter in accordance with modern requirements.

In 2012 for the first time the Government of the Yamal-Nenets region in conjunction with the Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute of RosHydromnet, performed the first comprehensive expedition for the examination of the Yamal Peninsula (KAEMB Arctic Yamal-2012). As key observation plots there were selected: settlement Novy Port, Ust Yuribey and the Island Bely. To the last section now there is attracted the maximum attention of the public, because it is selected for the starting of the program for the cleaning up Arctic from the debris and the wastes accumulated during the process of the functioning of polar infrastructure. Soil samples were selected from the prospecting pits in August, 2012. Heavy metals, as well as the content of oxides of silicon, aluminum, iron, titanium, manganese were detected with X-ray fluorescent analyzer "Spectroscan-MAX. The values obtained were compared with thre Approxible Permissible Concentrations and Maximum Allowable Concentrations adopted in Russia. Since the accumulation of heavy metals is related with their fixation by soil organic matter, concomitantly there was evaluated the content of organic carbon and nitrogen with the use of the device VARIO EL III. The application of the profile approach to the study of the chemical composition of soils helped to establish mid-ground and deep supra permafrost accumulation maximums of priority inorganic toxicants and other heavy metals. This is most likely related to the development of two groups of soil processes: eluvial-illuvial and cryogenic mass exchange. As a result of the eluvial-illuvial processes, some heavy metals are redistributed along the profile, and accumulating in the middle part of the profile. Meanwhile, in the tundra soils dominant processes are cryogenic mass exchange, leading to a strong mixing of the soil column and the accumulation of certain components in the chemical composition in the supra permafrost or surprapermafrost-gley horizon. This is the main reason for the second peak of the content of heavy metals in the bottom of the soil profiles. Performed studies show that although most heavy metals are accumulated in the upper soil horizons, in the case of tundra, soil profile redistribution processes lead to the fact that in the case of the surface sampling, there is underestimation of the total reserves of substances in the soil profile.

We compared data on the extent of bioremediation in soils polluted with oil. The data were obtained using conventional methods of hydrocarbon determination: extraction gas chromatography-mass spectrometry, extraction IR spectroscopy, and extraction gravimetry. Due to differences in the relative abundances of the stable carbon isotopes (13C/12C) in oil and in soil organic matter, these ratios could be used as natural isotopic labels of either substance. Extraction gravimetry in combination with characteristics of the carbon isotope composition of organic products in the soil before and after bioremediation was shown to be the most informative approach to an evaluation of soil bioremediation. At present, it is the only method enabling quantification of the total petroleum hydrocarbons in oil-polluted soil, as well as of the amounts of hydrocarbons remaining after bioremediation and those microbially transformed into organic products and biomass.

In the Primorsky Krai there was performed a population ecological and hygienic analysis of the relationship between the content of chemical elements in the soil and thyroid morbidity in the population of the region. The assessment of the prevalence of iodine deficiency and iodine deficiency diseases was carried out on the basis of the impact of the priority environmental toxic (strontium, nickel, cadmium, lead, arsenic, tin) and essential (nickel, iron, germanium, molybdenum, zinc, selenium) trace elements on the level of iodine deficiency diseases. The level of thyroid pathology in the territory of Primorye was established to be the highest one in areas characterized by the severe iodine deficiency (Northwest geochemical zones), where the structure of thyroid diseases is presented mainly by diffuse nontoxic goiter. Thyroid diseases associated with iodine deficiency in the population of different age groups are the result of multiple and combined imbalance of trace elements, which causes a relative (secondary) iodine deficiency. Thyroid disease in Primorye are environmentally caused diseases of technogenic origin, they are a consequence of the relative iodine deficiency, when on the background of normal iodine supply an imbalance of zinc, iron, cobalt, manganese with excess of such toxic trace elements as lead, strontium, nickel and chromium takes place. Thyroid pathology associated with iodine deficiency, along with other environmentally dependent diseases can be considered as a marker of ecological environment trouble.

Intensive oil extraction in Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug is not uncommon accompanied by emergency situations giving rise to the pollution of soil, surface and groundwater and causing an elevation in the population morbidity rate. The purpose of the study is to substantiate the basis for information value of hygienic indices of peat soils with low levels of oil contamination: from background values to exceeding the latters as much as 10-20 times, to apply in the study results in hygienic monitoring and oil regulation. The study was performed in accordance with the current methodological regulations. There was established the expediency of determination in transforming in the soil, composition of the petroleum hydrocarbons not only alkanes but arenes and resin-asphaltene fractions, indices of phytotoxicity, translocation of petroleum products into plants testing of soil extracts on protozoa and invertebrates.

There was performed the assessment of habitat quality for Samara population. Risk factors for prevalence of respiratory diseases (pneumonia, allergic rhinitis, asthma) in children, teenagers and adults were revealed to be formaldehyde, phenol, hydrogen sulfide in the ambient, cadmium and copper in the soil.

The comprehensive study of the qualitative and quantitative composition of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in soils of Antarctica (reference landscapes--mountains Hudson, Haswell Archipelago contaminated soil--Mirny, Druznaya-4, Bellingshausen--and imported soils) was performed with the use of HPLC in a gradient mode. A characteristic feature of the studied PAHs content of soils is the predominance of low-molecular polyarenes in them. Due to anthropogenic pollution the quantitative accumulation of both light and heavy PAHs occurs under the qualitative increase in the proportion of heavy polyarenes. Polyarenes pool in the studied soils is represented mainly by light PAHs: naphthalene, phenanthrene, fluoranthene, pyrene, etc. The content of benzo(a)pyrene does not exceed the MCL (adopted in the Russian Federation) for this ecotoxicant. Performed primary factual and statistical analysis of data permitted to reveal that heavy PAH pollution of Antarctica soils is in the most initial stage, there is no sustained and statistically significant accumulation of PAHs in soils of maritime as well as continental Antarctica. There are established the levels of the actual content of various PAHs in soils of different regions of the Antarctica, which is the basic data for further comparative analysis of data of geochemical studies.

Analysis of the efficiency of diagnosis of lands for different functional appropriations with integral indices of chemical contamination of soils and grounds under different environmental conditions showed: the greatest accuracy of the information about the structure and degree of contamination of territories is provided by the index relying on hygienic standard (index of soil contamination, ISC). The number of hygienically dangerous lithochemical anomalies revealed by ISC is several times more than the fixed by the index of total pollution of soils by trace elements (Zc), focused only on their background levels. Index Zc is in many respects subjective and unacceptable in complex soil geochemical conditions where the selection of the regional background is impossible. ISC account not only in trace elements, but other hygienically regulated substances (As, Hg, mobile forms of metals, water-soluble salts, carbohydrates, etc.) either.

The aim of the work is to test the application of the method of evaluating the content of zinc in the hair of the child population for solving SHM tasks on the example of the Irkutsk region. In total 426 children aged 5-6 years were examined, selected in four groups. The first group was consisted of children residing in a large industrial center to the south of the region, the second--in the the small town of the central part, the third group was formed by rural children of the central region, and the fourth--the northern and foothill regions. Hair analysis was performed by atomic absorption method. Found that zinc content in hair was established to be prone to significant variability. In children of the southern industrial center of the region (Group 1) there was noted the least amount of zinc (median is of 65.6 mg/kg). In 53% of the samples the element content was below the absolute norm (AN), out of which 25% below the biologically permissible limits (BPL). Only in 8.5% of the samples the zinc content exceeded AN and 3%-- BPL. In the range of AN there are 38% of the children, within the BPL range--71%. In the 2nd, the median of the concentration of zinc in the hair was 152.5 mg/kg. In the range of the AN there were 53% of the samples, in the BPL range--86% of the samples. Deviations from the reference levels were observed in the direction of exceedence of values. 36% of rural children (group 3) are provided with zinc within the limits of AN, 93%--within BPL. Only in 6% of children the zinc content in the hair below AN or BPL. In the 4th Group only 7.7% of samples were in the AN range and 27% of the samples--in the BPL range. 92% of the samples were way beyond the limits of AN and 73%--beyond the BPL. In most of the samples the higher content of zinc was observed. The highest concentrations of zinc in hair were observed in children living in the northern foothills and the Irkutsk region, which are characterized by elevated levels of this metal in the soil. In the diet of the inhabitants of these regions there is prevailed local food of animal origin, which is the main source of the entry of zinc into the body. In areas of intensive industrial development, despite the rather high zinc content in the objects of the environment, there was noted the high frequency of the zinc deficiency states, especially in conditions of complex chemical factors exposure and lifestyle that may be associated with features of not only input, but also the absorption of zinc in the body children.

The authors presented hygienic evaluation of ambient air in various districts of Baku city with heavy metals--lead, cadmium, chromium, nickel, copper and zinc. The metals contents of the air were assessed indirectly by their levels in soils of the areas under study. Findings are that soil levels of zinc, chromium and nickel exceeded those of the other metals by a degree. The highest levels were seen in the industrial area that can be assigned to a territory with highest risk for public health. The calculated daily doses of heavy metals inhaled by humans and levels of total daily doses inhaled by adult inhabitants could be risk factors in chronic exposure.

Adverse environmental conditions in Shymkent significantly increase the risk of accumulation of lead in the bodies of the children of the third generation of the population residing in the contaminated areas, cause deteriorations of antioxidant defense in the respiratory system, greatly decline barrier-protective properties of cellular systems of the local immunity, disturb the process of hematopoiesis. Performed statistical analysis of the data permitted to identify a correlation relationship between the accumulation of lead in the soil and the change in the functional activity of the cells of buccal cheek epithelium, catalase activity in expired breath condensate. Haematological signs of lead poisoning include not only the number of reticulocytes, but also the correction (RPI) for the alteration with allowances made for the maturation of reticulocytes in peripheral blood circulation as early criterion for toxic anemia.

The article presents data on the levels of soil pollution by polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) in different regions of Russia and foreign countries. For the time present proposed regulatory value for the regulation of PCBs in soils of different land uses have been established to be set mainly on the results of the calculations of risk. However used initial values and features of the methodology for calculating determine significant variability of proposed levels of PCBs in soils. Analysis of the discussed problem of regulation of PCBs in soils in different countries permitted to make the conclusion that for the sound management of PCBs in the environment, it is necessary, first of all, the solution of questions of selection of a single standardized PCBs sample and the most appropriate method for risk assessment for the characterization of the state of contaminated soils.

In the course of the performed study the significant influence of pesticides introduced into arable farmland, on the frequency of gynecological morbidity in adolescents in 21 districts of the Belgorod region was established. With increasing pesticide load on the soil the prevalence of gynecological pathology in adolescents in rural areas is raising.

The properties of a consortium of microorganisms InMI/CH7 selected from of industrial effluent samples have been investigated. The ability of strains to form biofilms was shown to be correlated with their sensitivity to toxicants.

The authors studied the levels of chromium in potable water, snow, soil, and the hair of inhabitants in 3 territorial economic zones of the Orenburg region, water and snow prooxidant loads, and the impact of excessive potassium bichromate intake on the imbalance of some elements in the blood and spleen of laboratory animals. There was dissimilar distribution between the media in relation to the area, as well as a pronounced imbalance of trace elements in the biosubstrates of experimental animals.

This study analyzes the long-term dynamics of distribution ofradionuclides in forest ecosystems. Three stages in the formation of radio-ecological situation in the forests are distinguished. Proposals for optimization of sampling for radio-ecological monitoring of forest ecosystems at various periods after a radiation accident are formulated.

The analysis of the informative value of integral indicators of chemical soil contamination in the diagnosis of the status of lands used for different functional purposes has ascertained that the highest validity of information on the pattern and degree of area pollutions is achieved using by the indicator based on hygienic standards (soil pollution index (SPI)). The Xc index based on the background content of trace elements is largely subjective and unacceptable in complex soil geochemical conditions where the regional background (a railway, the Karelian Isthmus) cannot be chosen. SPI accounts for the values of not only trace elements, but also other hygienically regulated substances (As, Hg, mobile forms of metals, hydrocarbons, etc.). The quantity of hygienically dangerous lithochemical anomalies found by means of SPI is several times greater than that by means of Zc (settlements, the Volga delta).

Unlabelled: The frequency of micronuclei (MN) in the oral mucosal epitheliocytes, the health status, the environment, and living, upbringing, and education conditions were studied in 5-6-year-old children and 15-16-year-old adolescents living in Saint Petersburg., Objective: to identify cytogenetic disorders in the somatic cells of the buccal epithelium in the children and adolescents residing in the areas with different degrees of toxic ambient air and soil pollution., Methods: hygienic, sociological, mathematical-and-statistical, and cytogenetic (micronucleus test) studies. The method for studying the frequency of micronuclei in the buccal epithelial cells was used for the first time in the population-based studies to evaluate the cytogenetic effect of different levels of chemical ambient air and soil pollution. The genetic disorders have been identified in the somatic cells as the increased count of micronuclei-containing epitheliocytes, which characterize the adverse effect of the high content of toxicants in the air ground layer and soil, as well as a higher sensitivity to unfavorable exogenous factors in 5-6-year-old children, girls in particular.

A study to evaluate congenital morphogenetic variants (CMGVs) and the association of the polymorphism of the xenobiotic detoxification and repair genes with cytogenetic parameters was conducted for the first time in children living in different climatic zones and areas polluted with primary petroleum refining products. Analysis of CMGVs and cytogenetic parameters in children points to the total genotoxic impact of oil pollutions. The children's higher sensitivity to environmental pollution is associated with the polymorphism of the detoxification gene, with the base excision repair gene XRCC1 in particular.

To evaluate soil pollution with toxic chemicals near preschool institutions in Vladivostok city, the author used atomic absorption spectrophotometry to study levels of Zn, Mn, Fe, Cu, Co, Sr, Pb, Cd and Cs. Soils from reference territories (nine settlements in Primorsky region) were taken for comparison. The levels in the city soil appeared to be reliably higher (Cu level--2.18 times, Zn level--2.61 times, that of Pb--5.15 times, Cd level--2.33 times, Sr level--1.85 times and Cs level--1.68 times) than those in the reference territories. Findings are that soils near preschool institutions in Vladivostok are significantly contaminated with heavy metals.

Pollution was hygienically evaluated in the area of the former chemically dangerous OAO "Kaprolaktam-Dzerzhinsk" enterprise. The soils around its production buildings were the test subject. Sampling, chemical analysis, and hygienic evaluation of the results of the analysis were made. The work done allowed the authors to plot pollution by both area and depth. The findings may be used to choose a decontamination procedure, by taking into account the degree of pollution.

A scheme for the environmental and hygienic assessment of a functioning solid domestic waste (SDW) burial ground was experimentally tested, by taking into account regional features. The study involved the assessment of climatic, geological, and hydrogeological features of the region, the sanitary-and-hygienic assessment of the activity of a SDW burial ground, and the hygienic assessment of ambient air, soil, and water in the SDW burial ground functioning area. The developed scheme may be used to modify a manufacturing inspection program.

A comprehensive study of the state of urban soils revealed the altered structural and functional organization of microbiocenosis versus that of the soils of intact forest ecosystems. The indicator microbial and biochemical parameters of the state of the soils under urban technological pressure were identified. The findings may be used to evaluate the natural environment, to make an urban environmental monitoring.

The paper gives data on the levels of toxic chemicals in the soil of an industrial town. Rationale is provided for dividing the microareas of an Aktobe residential zone in relation to the soil level of chemical carcinogens.

The purpose of the study was to assess the sanitary-and-hygienic state of solid garbage (SG) burial grounds in the Perm Territory in different stage of a life cycle. This paper presents the results of the study of deposited waste, forming dump soil, and SG ground emissions by general sanitary and sanitary-microbiological parameters and their effect on environmental objects. The performed studies of the sanitary-and-hygienic situation on some grounds of the Perm Territory suggest that there is a need for setting up a system for sanitary-and-monitoring of SG ground and for elaborating engineering, organizational, and prophylactic measures to assure the sanitary-and-hygienic safety of objects and to control the quality and quantity of waste to be buried and the currents of emissions (ground body degassing, filtrating sewage drainage and purification).
