This paper is devoted to the characteristic of the informative value of the functional step test with the application of the heel cushions in the children for the purpose of differential diagnostics of anatomic and functional differences in the length of the lower extremities. A total of 85 schoolchildren with different length of the lower extremities have been examined. The comparative evaluation of the results of clinical and instrumental examinations was undertaken. The data obtained with the help of the functional step test give evidence of its very high sensitivity, specificity, and clinical significant as a tool for the examination of the children with different length of the low extremities. The effect of dosed diet restriction on the physiological remodeling and bioelectric properties of bone tissue was studied in 48 male Wistar rats 3- and 18-months of age. The rate of bone tissue apposition was studied by the dynamic histomorphometry method (intravital tetracycline labeling). Electric potentials on the periosteal surface of the freshly isolated femurs were recorded. The magnitude of dielectric loss factor was determined to assess the quality of bone tissue. The control rats received a standard diet. The experimental rats received a limited diet (60 % of the standard mass) for 28 days. The magnitude and rate of the bone tissue apposition on the endosteal and periosteal surface of the tibia were less by 38.4% and 122.7% respectively in experimental rats after dosed diet restriction. Electric potential in the metaphyseal-epiphyseal growth zones of the femur was 29.7% lower, and the dielectric loss factor increased by 15.8%. The bone tissue apposition rate and the electric potential magnitude were increased 10 days after completion of the dosed diet restriction. The application of technique for obtaining the tibial fragment (split) with a preserved vascular network of the nutrient artery and its branches, that participate in the blood supply of this bone area, permits to detect significant osteogenetic potential of both endosteum and undifferentiated bone marrow cells. Under these conditions it was possible to increase the bone thickness 2 to 3 times in short time. The regeneration process in this case is characterized by a rapid course and formation of large massive of cancellous bone. The results of this study suggest that an adequate blood supply, stable fixation of bone using Ilizarov apparatus and the chosen rate of split displacement create the favorable conditions for the active osteogenesis. more...

In an effort to study the causes of postoperative instability of ankle joint endoprostheses, local mechanical properties of the osseous tissue of tibia and talus were studied in terms of physiological loading on 19 cadaverous preparations in the zones, subjected to resection with the purpose of implant setting. High sensitivity of spongiosa tissue to the local mechanic action and significant reduction of the strength characteristics to the depth from subchondral layer have been noted. It has been ascertained that the main cause of the postoperative instability is the excessively voluminous bone resection, dictated by the structural limitations of the used endoprostheses. Sportsman-fencers (683 persons) of various qualification and types of fencing (sabre fencers, foil fencers, swordsmen) have been roentgenologically examined. Of them 97 have been examined for the second time in a year. For a comparison 204 persons nonsportsmen have been examined. Increased specialized loadings of chop-push character, peculiar for fencing, accelerate processes of bone sinostosis and result in certain morphological changes in the components of the knee joint: the joint cartilage becomes thinner (as demonstrates the roentgenologically measured joint cleft), periostal osteogenesis on the surface of epiphyses, endothelial osteogenesis in the bone diaphyses become activated. more...

Mechanical properties (stress and strain) of bones from rats of different ages exposed to weightlessness, hypodynamia or hypokinesia were examined upon torsion. As compared to the controls, the femur of Cosmos-1129 rats showed high deformability. Also, skeletal bones of young rats proved more sensitive to hypodynamia than those of adult animals. more...

To analyse the mechanisms of the increase of excitability of the spinal cord neurons after division of a nerve, the author studied the character of changes of the monosynaptic responses (MSR) of the ventral spinal cord root in albino rats 5 days and 4 weeks after removal of the bones of one hind limb. The MSR did not change in 5 days but intensified significantly in 4 weeks as compared to the monosynaptic responses on the contralateral side. The possible mechanisms of the increase of MSR after osteotomy and division of a nerve are discussed. more...
