Tholeiitic basalts of the Hawaiian Mauna Loa and Kīlauea volcanoes (USA) contain olivine xenocrysts with chromespinelide inclusions. Their chemical composition and spectroscopic properties were investigated and compared with olivine of another ultrabasite type. Two olivine varieties with the iron content of 10–12 and 18–21.5 mol% Fa were detected. The composition of chromespinelide corresponds to the following two varieties: subferrialumochromite and subferrisubalumochromite. Mössbauer spectroscopy and EPR of the olivine showed only minor traces of iron oxidation. The composition of chromespinelide is testimony to its high-temperature metamorphism. The typomorphic features of the studied minerals (from the mantle) are close to those of the lherzolite-harzburgite complex of rocks of the Urals alpinotype ultrabasites.

Based on visual and satellite data, the authors provide information that characterizes the volcanic activity in the Kuril Islands in 2018. Ebeko (Paramushir Island, the Northern Kurile Islands) and Sarychev Peak (Matua Island, the Central Kurile Islands) volcanoes were active in the Kuril Islands. Ebeko Volcano produced a weak (to moderate) explosive eruption in form of steam and ash-gas emissions (about 800 emissions at a height from 2 to 5.5 km). Sarychev Peak activity was characterized by a weak (to moderate) explosions (over the period from September till October the volcano produced at least 10 emissions that reached a height of 2 to 4.5 km). Due to the relatively low emission height and low ash concentration, the activity on Ebeko and Sarychev Peak in 2018 did not pose a serious threat to the international air routes, but could have a certain impact on the local airlines.

Return to the Aeolian Islands (Fughe e approdi, 2010) chronicles director Giovanna Taviani’s journey to the Aeolian Islands, a volcanic archipelago off the coast of Sicily and setting for a host of films. Return documents the islands’ geological past in a study of ecological, and not just cinematic history. This essay begins to unravel the threads of a magmatic Aeolian landscape where volcanoes, cinema, and memory collaborate in the creation of more-than-human stories.

Variations in the volume activity of radon are determined by changes in the permeability of rocks in the upper part of geological section. Permeability depends on changes in stress-strain state of rocks that occur under infl uence of earthquake preparation processes. Transmission of deformations from the earthquake source is determined by geological conditions, including volcanoes, in which rocks (magma) are in a quasi-liquid state. Presence of a liquid or quasi-liquid substance affects conditions for elastic deformations transmission. The analysis of the results of long-term monitoring of radon volume activity at the Yuzhno-Kurilsk and Kurilsk stations showed that in the spatial directions in which there are volcanic structures, there is a decrease in the number of earthquakes that appeared in the previous anomalies of RVA.,

Volcanic eruptions are a reflection of the geological processes occurring in the deep zones of the planet. The ability to prevent and control these processes in the near future does not look realistic to humanity. Therefore, the most effective means to prevent catastrophic consequences in the areas of active volcanism today is to predict the possible directions and extent of eruptions. At the same time, systematic monitoring of volcanic activity is an indispensable condition for the rational and safe economic development of areas of high volcanic danger. The purpose of the work is the implementation of a geographic information system to provide monitoring of volcanic activity with the aim of cartographic assessment of the current situation and forecasting. Research objectives include the database design, data collection and systematization of information about the object of research, design, geodatabase and its testing in the GIS project, the creation of geoportal Volcanoes of the Kuril Islands. The methods used in the study are the interpretation of remote sensing data route field observations on the reference test sites method of landscape analysis and cartometrics research based on geoinformation technologies. Field studies were carried out on the islands of Iturup (Baransky and Atsonupuri volcanoes) and Paramushir (Ebeko volcano) and included geological routes, subsatellite observations on reference test sites. As the ERS materials, we used satellite images with apparatus of Landsat and Sentinel taken from public sources. Realisedgeoinformation system allowed us to provide monitoring of volcanic activity with source data, accumulate materials studying the structure of volcanic structures and assessing volcanic danger, as well as in the study of spectralbrightness characteristics reflecting different density of ash clouds above landscapes. Perspectives of the research are connected with the further improvement of the database structure, its information saturation, the implementation of the geoportal and the organization of systematic observations., №2(14) (2019)

The results of chemical analyses of snow samples from five pits and cores drilled in the vicinities of Vostok Station, Antarctica, are presented. High resolution (every 2–3 cm, or about three samples per year) ion measurements allowed to compile a new detailed record of volcanic events for the past 900 years. About 30 low latitude volcanic eruptions were identified In core intervals with high content of nonmarine sulphates and decreased values of acidity during XIII–XX centuries. Global ones analysed in the literature were detected in the cores: Pinatubo (1991), Agung (1963), Krakatau (1883), Tambora (1815), unknown (1809), Gamkonora (1673), Huaynaputina (1600), Kuwae (1453), unknown (1259).

Geophysical materials obtained in recent time allow to suppose that region of Caucasus Mineral Waters is located in zone of subjacent subvertical dislocation of earth crust and failed volcanous are neogen (or neogenquartenary) hypabyssal complexes of minor intrusions associated with it. There are several regions in Big Caucasus with structural-tectonical conditions, similar with Caucasus Mineral Water region,
