In the recent years, wheelchairs have gradually helped people with reduced mobility continue to integrate into society, enabling them to continue their daily activities independently. There are many wheelchair models on the market today, however, a problem that many potential buyers face is that wheelchairs are usually manufactured to standard sizes. Their constant use eventually causes discomfort to the user, as these wheelchairs do not always meet the physical needs of the person. The aim of this work is to study the ergonomic design criteria for wheelchairs and so, learn to design a wheelchair for a specific person. This work began with the search of information about the types of wheelchairs, its basic elements, and the most common materials for their production. Subsequently, the concept of ergonomics is introduced. Based on the idea that âa wheelchair is the one that has to adapt to the person, not the person to a wheelchair,â we started collecting information about ergonomic criteria to consider when designing a wheelchair to ensure good functionality and comfort to the user. In Creo Parametric was generated a 3D model of the wheelchair, and then it was used to run static analyzes in Ansys Workbench to assess the reliability of the wheelchair in question.
