Building on the current scientific and literary-didactic discourse, this paper has as its subject the analysis of the group discussion and the categorization of the so-called functional literary competences which students of German language studies should master. The focus of dealing with literary texts in the eighth semester of the German language studies is, apart from their literary nature, primarily their socio-political impulses and influence on the transfer from the world of the text to the world around us. By comparing the two novels, The Navel of the World by Venko Andonovski and Dobri dani by Marko Dinić, and by means of their productive treatment in the classroom, we will see whether literary texts contribute to the development of the social-critical engagement of the recipients. Along with observing and defining the didactics of literature as an applied science and a part of the literary social system, qualitative scientific methodology was applied in this research. After the semi-structured group discussion procedure, the obtained data were analyzed and categorized. The research questions supported by theoretical postulates important for this paper arose from teaching practice, while methodological examples and research results bring it back to that practice.

The problem of literature as a critique of ideology is essentially a question of the relationship between creativity and artistic freedom, on the one hand, and social order, on the other. With Predrag Palavestra (1930-2014), this question is a continuation of the discussion about critical literature as an alternative to postmodernism and its development trends. The book of essays Literature - Critique of Ideology (1991) contains 17 papers and all of them stem from the book Critical Literature (1983) in which 31 papers were printed. The introductory place in the discussion of literature as a critique of ideology belongs to the problem of Serbian literature in the Yugoslav or South Slavic civilization at the moment when it became clear that the Yugoslav state was falling apart. Palavestra starts from the idea, even though since the time when its concept was defined (as an ideological and state goal), Yugoslav civilization remained an imaginary concept, that the first task of Serbian intellectuals at that time was to "bring and establish a new, modern, critical and democratic Serbian national program", based on experience in the past and present, so the Yugoslav civilization will survive, if other intellectual forces of the Yugoslav peoples decide for it "democratically and with creative energies, truly and actively". The task of the work is to show how Palavestra's critical thought, communicated throughout the world, aimed to understand the values not only of Serbian literature and culture, but also to prevent the drama and bloody disintegration of the Yugoslav state and the civil war of its peoples. In all parts of the world, in many institutions, newspapers and magazines, he advocated dialogue as a way out of impasse. Also, we show that all the books and topics he dealt with were the way to the great synthesis he achieved in the History of Serbian Literary Criticism 1768 - 2007 (2008).

The Childhood during the State-socialist Bulgaria is thematized in a plethora of novels and auto-fictional literature, published in the last three decades. Many of these works pose the question “Is the past of my own childhood a ‘foreign country’ for me”? This is a question very close to the anthropological one: “Could we know and understand our own (childhood’s) past as insiders?” In this paper I will take a close look at the presentations of the Socialist Childhood in some popular Bulgarian novels, written after the Fall of Communism by authors belonging to different generations. I will discuss them from an anthropological perspective. How this past is presented, reflected, and as such - becomes an important part of the cultural memory about the Bulgarian State Socialism, is the main research question of this paper.

The aim of this paper is to depict how the concept of place is presented and interpreted in literary tourism. Drawing upon the poststructuralist and postmodern theories of culture and tourism the paper will explore the relation between the literary places and tourists. In other words, the paper examines how the literary places influence visitors' experiences of certain places and how the visitors assign meanings to the fictional places which exist in the real world and vice-versa (the real places which also exist in the world of fiction). In the context of literary tourism the boundaries between the fictional and non-fictional worlds are inevitably blurred in the tourist's experience. The tourist becomes the active creator of both, the potential tourist offer and the authentic experience which is personal and subjective. In order to create the appropriate tourist offer to the bibliophiles it is of the utmost importance to understand the way visitors experience such places. In order for the literary place to become popular it is necessary to include several factors including the creative act of the visitor.

This paper explores a set of narratives that the writer, educator and feminist leader Amanda Labarca published in the first quarter of the 20th century, namely the novel En tierras extrañas (1915), the short novel La lámpara maravillosa and the collection of stories Cuentos a mi señor (both 1921). We are interested in inscribing this corpus of Labarca’s work mainly in the criollismo, thought of as the Latin American and Chilean literary sensibility of the first half of the 20th century. With this, we contribute to the studies that have set out to explore one of Labarca’s most unknown areas: her literature. Specifically, it traces the spirit that runs through these texts, emphasizing the typification of discourses, characters and social contexts that allow sustaining the proposal of analyzing this prose from the point of view of criollismo. Indeed, the results show the presence of several characteristics of this trend, such as the presence of the peripheral or marginal element, the traveler as protagonist or the enhancement of local customs. It is concluded that Labarca’s lyrics dialogue with the proposals of Chilean criollismo, although they are also inspired by other aesthetic and ideological proposals of her time.

The paper presents three literary images of the coexistence of Jews and Muslims in Ottoman Bosnia. The pictures chronologically represent a hodogram of coexistence from the 16th to the beginning of the 20th century. The first picture is Sušić's short story Šta učini Don Daniel Rodriga, in which the author first shows the early relationship between Bosnian Muslims and Jews in trade between the Ottoman Empire and the Venetian Republic, and then the social controversies that accompanied that process. The second picture is based on Bašeski's Ljetopis and presents a picture of coexistence in the daily life of Sarajevo in the 18th century, where it does not only include the beautiful and positive, but also the negative representations. However, this picture shows the dynamic connections between Muslims and Jews at the national level, but also the differences and tensions conditioned by the social, religious, and political context. The third picture represents the positive relationship between Muslims and Jews in the example of literary representations of Sarajevo’s Purim. Here we analyze the different interpretations of this event, as well as how much they, regardless of evident contradictions, together influenced the shaping of the discourse about this holiday of Sarajevo’s Jews.

The presented qualitative content analysis in this paper refers to the aspirations of modern didactics of foreign literature towards discursive, multimedia and constructive approaches to literary texts. The criteria for the selection of literary texts in teaching point to the fact that the novel ʻBricks and Mortarʼ by Clemens Meyer is an adequate choice for university literature teaching, both for the analysis of the discourse and for achieving the set teaching goals. The main figures in the novel belong to the milieu of prostitution, shown both from the point of view of women and from the point of view of pimps. The internal monologues, the flow of thoughts and the dizzying change of the narrative perspective enable a detailed psychological picture of the characters and the impossibility of dividing them into ʻgoodʼ and ʻevilʼ. What is ʻevilʼ is woven into modern society where the only God is – money. The applied qualitative methodology deals with a case study, which is composed by fourth year students of German Studies at the Faculty of Philology and Arts of the University of Kragujevac. The presented classes were held in the summer semester of the academic year 2021/2022. The goals of the class are strengthening the existing literary competences and acquiring new literary competences, especially the competence of independent reading, independent individual understanding of the text, independent decision-making about the literary value of the literary text and conscious acceptance of the ambiguity of the text. Special attention is drawn to the conscious mastery of discursive comments. The main discourses of the novel are sex, power, prostitution and money. These topcis were broken down by students into subtopics, presented in multimedia presentations. In the conversation after (Anschlussgespräch), an attempt was made to transfer the fictitious world of the book to the so-called ʻrealʼ world that surrounds us. The respondents showed a high level of literary and life knowledge at their disposal. It is believed that mastering the aforementioned competencies is essential for future German as a foreign language teachers. It enables them not only to independently choose literary texts, goals and methods in their own teaching, but also to teach and transfer discursive competences to their students, thereby educating them in a humanistic and democratic spirit.

The institution of the Kaaba takes up a significant position in the ontological, religious, jurisprudential and political idea of Islam. For this reason, it is vital to talk about the Kaaba from different aspects. The Kaaba is a complex phenomenon in Islam. If we want to explore its position and its role, it is necessary to approach it in different ways, from different aspects. It is one of the central figures and concepts in Islam around which the entire collective consciousness is formed. We cannot in the slightest expect to get a proper understanding of its essence if we do not devote ourselves to it comprehensively. Considering only one of its levels will certainly distract us from understanding its complete essence. Because of that, in this paper we will analyze different levels of the Kaaba, from historical and geographical levels to the legal, theological and ontological ones. Finally, we will pay attention to the position of the Kaaba in the literary tradition of Islam.

In this paper we have shown that there are numerous Gnostic elements in the works of Emil Cioran, which have become closely interwoven with his worldview over the years. We have also shown that almost every aspect of Gnostic philosophy is present in his fragments, interpreted and elaborated in its own unique way, including the idea of a Creator, an evil demiurge responsible for the creation of this world and the universe, the idea that matter itself is evil, implying that life itself, formed from this matter, is also evil. We have found, however, that of all material things, Cioran considered man to be the worst of all creations, who should no longer reproduce in order to put an end to the suffering known by the mere fact of existence. Cioran's anti-natalist thinking is certainly a product of his preoccupation with Gnosticism and the Romanian Gnostic traditions, especially the Bogumil and Cathar heritage. By dealing with Cioran's antinatalism, we have brought his own work and antinatalist thought to the Serbian academic world, where it was previously completely unknown. We have also managed to connect Cioran's thoughts with those of the French moralists, Buddhism, Marquis de Sade, Arthur Schopenhauer and Friedrich Nietzsche.
