FAIRY tales ,BIBLIOGRAPHY ,ENCYCLOPEDIAS & dictionaries ,NINETEENTH century ,ARCHIVAL materials ,LITERARY characters - Abstract
The article assesses the reception of the life and work of Amália Sirotková (1813 - 1892), the first known Slovak woman collector of fairy tales whose collection of tales has been preserved in manuscript form. The paper points to significant discrepancies between information on A. Sirotková and her tales published in literature and facts based on available source materials. The author rigorously analyses the conclusions of researchers who wrote about A. Sirotková (Bohumil Haluzický, 1952; Karel Horálek, 1989), information included in Ľudovít V. Rizner's Bibliografia slovenského písomníctva ([Bibliography of Slovak literature], 1933), and the biographical entry on A. Sirotková in Slovenský biografický slovník ([Slovak biographical dictionary], 1993). The article revises the facts provided in these references in the context of the research of fairy tales in the 19th century. The aim of the article is to accentuate the necessity to work with primary sources which help avoid drawing conclusions based on nonfactual links. Such imprecisions occur especially when it comes to marginally known personalities with very few references in literature and result in a distorted literary-historical portrait which does not correspond to the facts. The first Slovenian satirical newspaper Brencelj, was published in 1869. The newspaper was actively published for almost two decades with minor pauses due to external factors. It was mostly printed and published in Ljubljana, however, there were a few copies printed and published in Maribor. Through satire and humor it represented and summarized the work and behaviors of Germans as the opponents of the Slovenian movement. With caricatures, illustrations and witty comments, the first satirical newspaper written in the Slovenian language brought about Slovenian movement to all Slovenians - regular townsfolk, as well as those of higher education. This paper focuses on available literature from the years 1869–1874 and 1879, 1880, that were found in digitalised form. This paper contains the entire bibliography of literature, which was discussed in the years listed above, whereas the data is published on the Wikivir website. The paper contains a thorough analysis of the relationship between genders and unidentifiable authors, the relationships between longer and shorter texts, their sequels, genres, subtitles, and between works that are anonymous and those with a known author.

The discipline of Translation Studies has been criticized for being limited to only Euro-American perspectives and cultures, and thus scholars have called for expanding the scope of study beyond the Western conceptualizations of translation. This paper attempts to fill that void in the knowledge of the translation archaeology of Arabic novels translated into English. It creates an up-to-date bibliography of Arabic novels translated into English published worldwide across three decades (1988–2018) by consulting the US Library of Congress global union library catalogue and Goodreads. The collected materials are presented across two major historical periods: the post-Nobel Prize phase (1988–August 2001) and the post-9/11 phase (September 2001–2018). The bibliography includes 277 translated Arabic novels. It identifies the main actors involved in the process of translation, namely the authors, translators, and publishers. In addition to the quantitative analysis of this bibliographical data, this study adopts a comprehensive model by Allen (1995) to apply qualitative analysis to identify the topics being selected for translation into English. The study reveals that an increase in the number of translated works does not necessarily correlate with a greater understanding of the source text culture. In fact, increased translation flows can signal a reinforcement of known cultural stereotypes in the target culture.

CONCEPTUAL models , *UNIFORM titles (Cataloging) , *LIBRARY catalogs , *DESCRIPTIVE cataloging , *BIBLIOGRAPHY , *LIBRARY publications - Abstract
Purpose: The paper investigates the importance and development of uniform title that enables collocation in the library catalogue. Research results on use of uniform titles in two union catalogues, the Slovenian COBISS and the Croatian CROLIST are also presented. Methodology/approach: Theoretical apects of the uniform title are treated: for the first time by Panizzi, then in the Paris Principles being the basis for the Verona's cataloguing code; in the latest International Cataloguing Principles including conceptual models Functional Requirements for Bibliographic Records (FRBR) and Functional Requirements for Authority Data (FRAD); and last but not least in the international cataloguing code Resource Description and Access (RDA). To find out whether the uniform titles are used consistently according to the Verona's cataloguing code and to the requirements of the bibliographic formats COMARC and UNIMARC, the frequency of tags 300 and 500 in bibliographic records is explored. Results: The research results indicate that the use of uniform titles in COBISS and CROLIST is not satisfactory and that the tags 300 and .500 are often missing in bibliographic records. In online catalogues a special attention should be given to the uniform title as it is considered an efficient linking device in the catalogue and as it enables collocation. Research limitations: The research is limited to bibliographic records for translations of works of personal authors and of anonymous works; corporate authors are not included. Originality/practical implications: Presenting development of the uniform title from the very beginning up to now and the first research on the uniform title in COBISS. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

On the basis of archive material and work reports, the author presents the activities of the Institute for Contemporary History, the central national institution for the study of Slovenian history from the national revival in 1848 to the present day. The Institute was founded in 1959 by the Executive Council of the Slovenian government on the initiative of the Central Committee of the League of Communists. The research work of the Institute, which in the beginning only dealt with the revolutionary workers' movement, was, in the early Seventies, extended to cover all aspects of the recent national history. The Institute's associates have been studying the complete political, cultural, economic and social history of Slovenia, divided into four chronological periods (pre 1918, 1918 to 1941, 1941 to 1945, and after 1945). Their findings are available in academic monographs, published sources, papers in national and foreign historiographic and specialist journals, and elsewhere (Encyclopaedia of Slovenia, for example). The Institute also publishes the journal Prispevki za novejšo zgodovino (Contributions to Contemporary History). Most of the research work on recent Slovenian history has been done by the researchers of the Institute. The Institute is a professional research institution boasting a very highly qualified personnel: twenty-two of its twenty-six employees are historians of whom thirteen are holders of doctoral degree and three Masters of Art., Avtor na osnovi arhivskega gradiva in poročil o delu predstavlja dejavnost Inštituta za novejšo zgodovino, osrednje slovenske raziskovalne ustanove za raziskovanje slovenske novejše zgodovine, obdobja od narodnega preporoda 1848 do danes. Inštitutovi raziskovalci preučujejo celotno slovensko politično, kulturno in gospodarsko-socialno zgodovino do najnovejše dobe v štirih kronoloških sklopih (do 1918, 1918-1941, 1941-1945, 1945 do 'danes'). Rezultati raziskav so dostopni v znanstvenih monografijah, v znanstvenih člankih v osrednjih slovenskih zgodovinskih in drugih znanstvenih in strokovnih revijah in drugod (n.pr. Enciklopedija Slovenije).
