Through the following text we intend to provide some practical advice to carry out the complex task of moving a library. These recommendations arise from the experiences lived towards the end of 2018, during the transfer, due to building remodeling, of the 25,000 documents that make up the bibliographic collection of the library of the FASTA University (Fraternity of St. Thomas Aquinas groups) of Mar del Plata. Our intention is to share with the library community all the data collected, materials used, images recorded and forms designed throughout the whole process of the move, so that they may be useful at the time of starting a similar task. The move was divided into four stages, where all the actions that integrate them have had the fundamental purpose of preserving the collection and promptly resuming the usual services. These stages are: 1) the planning and calculation of the materials; 2) cleaning of the books and shelves; 3) the packing of documents, furniture and equipment; 4) relocation of the collections. In addition, we have included a section on the occupational health and safety of all the personnel involved in and responsible for the various tasks involved in the move. The recommendations and precautions that were taken into account when handling the tools and the bibliographic collections are developed throughout all the stages of the move. Finally, we share the graphic images and digital publications that we used to disseminate and inform the entire educational community about the important changes in the services during the move, through the different channels of the library and the institution.

This paper analyzes the concept of digital collections (DC) from the point of view of digital libraries, virtual libraries and digital archives, including the most diverse groupings of digital objects. Also are considered approaches to digital humanities and the conception of digital collections as data and Data collections. From the analysis is derived that under the term there are very different approaches. These ones come from the original disciplines, the context in which they are formulated or the institutions that support them, among many other elements that participate transversely. The DC are then considered subsumed in the concept of a border object, that is, a flexible entity that adapts to the needs and limitations of the various groups that use it, although it is robust enough to maintain a common identity in different areas. DC are used in libraries, archives and museums and are associated with very heterogeneous value-added services. The phases of the life cycle of the DC between the different approaches are analyzed, concluding that there are many correlations between the stages and the elements present using different optics. Finally, good practices that include aspects that are considered most significant in the design of the DC are developed: standards, interoperability, licensing, accessibility, semantic data, management, preservation, services, interaction and free software applications.

This book is a compilation of essays that were prepared from the research work of the Master in Sociospatial Studies of the Institute of Regional Studies (INER) of the University of Antioquia that participated in the 2017 edition of the Hernán Henao Delgado Award. On this occasion, six articles were nominated for the award, which obtained in its evaluation the Meritorious or Outstanding Distinctions in cohorts III and IV of that master. This collection contains articles derived from four of the six papers, in order to recognize and make visible their main theoretical and methodological contributions.

In the light of the research "Curriculum evaluation model in Library Science and Documentation in Latin America", presents a reflection on what can be understood by curricular evaluation in the context of higher education and is specifically within the library field, followed by a The European Commission’s White Paper In particular, from the perspective of the training of professionals from the University and the librarianship, which is complemented by some examples of indicators to be defined according to the proposal of structural axes put forward by Jorge González González and his team of research to conclude with some conclusions on the subject boarded.

In the National Autonomous University of Mexico, in principle from the cuib, University Center for Library Research, which today has become the iibi, Library and Information Research Institute, research activities in the field of library education have been developed with the support of Dr Lina Escalona Ríos, teacher and researcher of the Institute and who has been in charge of the Permanent Seminar of Library Education for several years. This Seminar is made up of researchers from different Latin American countries, a collective that promotes research with the contributions of professors from universities of different schools of library science in Latin America and Spain. It is a collaborative work that focuses on issues related to library education, in light of the demands that arise in social, political, economic, cultural and educational media. It highlights research in the field of library education responding to the need to address the improvement of library training processes in the Ibero-American context and identify the main problems and aspects from this perspective educational perspective. It also seeks to deepen aspects related to curricular processes, curriculum evaluation, accreditation activities, library training profiles, the professional labour market and the profile of teachers who train librarians, among other related topics. In this sense, some research methodologies that are evidenced in some of the research processes carried out in the field of library education are illustrated below, based on personal experience working with the iibi Library Education Permanent Seminar, unam. Based on the above, some research experiences in the field of library education are presented below, in the light of several of the investigations carried out; as well as their topics, their research questions, its methodologies, to finally give an account of it before the Seminar that took place in the city of Medellín in 2010 to culminate with some conclusions on what was discussed in this paper.

This conference had the aimed to promote the debate on the future of public libraries, current theme by issues such as increasing digitization of works, the digital market of reading or the beginning of conception of these centers as “third place". As a result of the conference, some works on the topic were made by several professionals who participated in it, trying to go beyond the usual conference papers.

The objective of this paper is to show the tools that allow the compilation of researchers scientific production, making possible to carry out comparative analysis between them. We propose a strategy that favours the research visibility and impact in the academic environment, through the proper use of digital author identifiers (ORCID, ResearcherID, AuthorID, Dialnet, Google Scholar Citations).

The Second International marked a stage in the history of the labor movement characterized by the formation of mass parties, the growth of trade unions, the development of numerous social organizations and the constitution of an international sphere for the circulation of ideas. In this paper we comparatively investigate the debates on imperialism of two of its most important parties, the German (SPD) and French (SFIO) Social Democracy. We inquire into his analysis of European colonial expansion, the causes of imperialism, and the prospects for a war between the powers. In turn, we examine their political action around these issues and the positions on imperialism of their main internal tendencies, weighing their impact on party politics. Both organizations debated and positioned themselves on these issues within the framework of an agitated political situation marked by wars of conquest, episodes of rebellion in the colonies and various war crises between European states. The contradictory development of these debates is an important factor in explaining the different reactions in these parties to the First World War and the subsequent split of international socialism between communists and reformists.

This practical and basic guidance aims to give a general description of steps to perform literature searches in PubMed and Lilacs databases. The purpose of the paper is the educational approach, and offers guidelines and tips that have proved useful in the literature search experiences in health.

This manual presents the aspects that must be taken into account to write and publish scientific papers at a level of quality that is sufficient for acceptance by high impact journals. The main topics discussed are: overview of technical and scientific publications, journal quality indexes, metadata, formal aspects, article sections, writing, illustrations, peer review process, ethics, open access publishing, professional marketing and article promotion.

It is analyzed the production of the main in Spain and Brazilian authors in Librarianship and Information Science from 1995 to 2004, to verify the scientific behave in the aspect of visibility on reviews which the researchers has been published and the productions through no conventional means of publicizing on metric study system (books, books chapters and congress documents). The methodology has been based on selecting information through the databases (SciELO, SSCI, ISOC, Francis and LISA) and citation analysis in Web of Science and Google Schools, according to the information gotten from the Curriculum of the researchers. The data received turned into a .txt format and after that, exported to a database and to data sheets. For the results, generally, the universities had a high rate in absolute visibility number within were University Carlos III of Madrid (n=712), University of Valencia (n=613), UNESP (n=613), Complutense University of Madrid (n=549), University Federal de Santa Catarina (n=534), University of Barcelona (n=456), University of São Paulo (n=408), University of Extremadura (n=394), Federal Fluminense University (n=358), University of Zaragoza (n=354), University of Salamanca (n=345) University of Murcia (n=326), Federal University of Minas Gerais (n=321), University of Brasilia (n=312), University of Granada (n=285), Catholic University of Campinas (n=269), University of Alcalá de Henares (n=239) University and the University Federal da Paraíba (n=221). For books, book chapters and papers presented at the conference proceedings has been a change of 180 degrees at some universities as UNESP, University of Murcia and University of Alcalá de Henares with a very positive character. Universities as University Carlos III of Madrid, Complutense University of Madrid, University of Zaragoza, University of Salamanca, Federal Fluminense University, University of São Paulo, Federal University of Minas Gerais, among others, had a very regular rate in all subjects, with a high average and very positive scientific growth.

Twenty years after the appearance of the first newspapers on the Internet, the media in general and the press in particular are immersed in a singularly critical, uncertain and disconcerting situation. In these moments of profound changes, threats and opportunities are mixed in a still uncertain cocktail which is not very well known what will arise. The threats come from the crisis of the written press, fueled by the loss of readers and the decline in advertising, by the emergence of new news agents and by doubts about the mediating role of the journalist. The economic crisis, which began with virulence in the last months of 2008, caused, among other effects, a drastic reduction in the investments of companies and institutions in media advertising, a fact that attacks the newspaper business model. The sharp blow hit in the reduction of advertising revenue, superimposed cultural change superimposes on the habits of news consumption, which is making its way as new (and not so new) generations of readers stop buying newspapers on paper (or reduce consumption) to read current information directly on the Internet.

The first goal of this paper is studying the Provincial Historical Archives’ role inside the Spanish archival systems; the second goal is to propose two possible ways of action to ensure they will remain useful to society in the medium or long term. For the first goal, their number, functions according both the state and regional legislation and two specific aspects are analyzed, as they are the volume of documentation stocked and their participation on in the document assessment bodies. Regarding the second goal, there is a double course of action: the deepening in their cultural role and the improvement of the attention to fonds not coming from the official bodies.

Animal fibres from South American camelids and other fibre or wool bearing species provide important products for use by the human population. The contemporary context includes the competition with petrocarbon-based artificial fibres and concern about excessive persistence of these in the natural environment. Animal fibres present highly valuable characteristics for sustainable production and processing as they are both natural and renewable. On the other hand, their use is recognised to depend on availability of appropriate quality and quantity, the production of which is underpinned by a range of sciences and processes which support development to meet market requirements. This collection of papers combines international experience from South and North America, China and Europe. The focus lies on domestic South American camelids (alpacas, llamas) and also includes research on sheep and goats. It considers latest advances in sustainable development under climate change, breeding and genetics, reproduction and pathology, nutrition, meat and fibre production and fibre metrology. Publication of this book is supported by the Animal Fibre Working Group of the European Federation of Animal Science (EAAP). ‘Advances in Fibre Production Science in South American Camelids and other Fibre Animals’ addresses issues of importance to scientists and animal breeders, textile processors and manufacturers, specialised governmental policy makers and students studying veterinary, animal and applied biological sciences.

Academic plagiarism has been a problem to academic institutions for long time. In the last years, with the immense amount of information availabe on the internet, plagiarism has become very easy and quite usual among students and faculty. In this paper, the scientific literature is reviewed, and different strategies and tolos found to avoid academic plagiarism are analysed and discussed. Three main complementary strategies have been highlighted: prevention through academic honesty instruction, the use of specific plagiarism detection software, and specific policies’ implementation.

In this review paper, the scientific literatura about the use of users' tags in library catalogs is analysed. The main advantages and disadvantages of this kind of documents descriptions are described, and the principal trends of the use of tags in library catalogs are commented.

The latest data on the scarce use of Spanish libraries question the usefulness of this service in the everyday life of citizens. At the same time, a movement within Library Science and Documentation that speaks, for example, of the social, participatory or common good library, seeks to expand the civic space it occupies. This paper focuses on the implications of the latest Spanish research on information users for this purpose. First, the data reveal the scarce participation of professionals in this research. Second, there is an abundance of research focusing on the evaluation of information units, but little research aimed at obtaining data for planning purposes. Third, there is more interest in the user in the work environment than in the information needs of users in their daily lives. Finally, there has been an increase in methodological complexity, but this does not lead to an improvement in the explicit practical implications for the management of information units. All this leads to reflect on the need for researchers and professionals to become more involved in the knowledge of the behaviour, habits and information needs of users if the objective is a library that balances the potential social value perceived by professionals and researchers with the value derived from its use and, therefore, its usefulness for the citizen.

In the modern period, print shops and book shops were the main points of distribution and sale of printed materials, but there were also other channels that facilitated the distribution of printed texts. Book traders and printers used lists and catalogues to advertise their products among private buyers and book shop owners and to distribute new and used books for either retail or wholesale. This practice enabled them to diversify their supply and redistribution. In this paper we focus on printed catalogues published separately, from the first example published in Madrid in 1597 to the ones published in the late eighteenth century. Because of their rarity, these catalogues and printed lists have not received the attention they deserve in the history of book studies, and have been largely neglected as sources for the study of book publishing and distribution.

This short paper analyzes Wikipedia as an object of scientific research, contrasting various studies dealing with that popular encyclopedia. The conclusion is that Wikipedia, as a manifestation of collaborative production and consumption of knowledge, is a valid subject of scientific research.

This book chapter describes a part of the results of the research "Diagnosis of open access from the web to the official publications of the public administration of Bogotá, Colombia", which aimed to strengthen transparency and confidence in public management from the identification of the main factors and difficulties that are presented when searching and access in an open way from the web to the official publications produced by the governmental institutions of Bogotá. Therefore, the research applied a qualitative methodology of exploratory scope; Compiled and produced information that allowed to analyze and explain what is an official publication, its production, edition, publication and bibliographic control during the Public Administration of Bogota from 2008 to 2012. The research concludes that the city government lacks a regulated definition which establishes the characteristics of form and content of official publications. This definition would allow to the different public administrations to base their planning, execution, monitoring, evaluation and accountability processes in a documentary format with adequate editorial and bibliographic standardization characteristics that guarantee the authenticity, integrity and validity of the content. Bogotá's official publishing system is centralized, focuses its publishing processes on generating publications mainly on paper, it does not have strategic objectives oriented to the publication in web environments and is not part of an open access policy.

This paper aims to provide a diagnosis for the election of thesaurus management software that also serves as management tool ontologies. The goal is to restructure and update the thesaurus of a legal information system-election, specifically the Federal Electoral Institute in Mexico. For this, we conducted an analysis of the prerequisites of a Web application for the maintenance and use of thesauri. We analyzed various technologies web application development, as well as guidelines and criteria provided by certain technical disciplines like accessibility, usability and information architecture. We have also carried out a functional description of the main features of an application of this type, which integrates the functions of query and maintenance.

Jean Laurent, of French origin, opened a photography studio in Madrid in the mid-1850s. During the following decades, between 1860 and 1880, he consolidated the most important photographic company in the Spain of the nineteenth century, in the style of the great European photographic houses. His work encompassed a large collection of sights and monuments of all Spain. This paper discusses the production of the Laurent House in Málaga and its province.

The main principles and values ​​that define the library profession as intellectual freedom and the major professional codes of our profession are studied are defined.
